One of my favorite things to do back home was to frequent my local Denny's late at night with a friend or two and enjoy some decent food at a great price along with free refills on hot chocolate and good service. I finally convinced my girlfriend to come with me to the Denny's here in downtown Memphis, and I was excited. Upon walking in, the ambiance was a lot different. The colors of the décor was a lot darker and predominantly brown, and they had a television show on that was very dark and violent. I may be different than the average person, but I don't want to watch a show showing some crying chick get killed by an angry dude on the television while I'm trying to enjoy my food. Once we are seated, we wait for an extended period of time until we are finally acknowledged and have our drink orders taken. We both order hot chocolate and water. We then ordered our food; the girlfriend ordered chocolate chip pancakes and I ordered the blueberry pancake puppy sundae (I had eaten before coming here). We got our hot chocolates and I was immediately disappointed; it was very watered down. We then got our food, and my blueberry pancake puppy sundae did not come with any toppings as listed on the menu, and the pancake puppies were overcooked and dried out. The busgirl noticed we weren't drinking our hot chocolates and asked about it, and we said that we were not happy with it and it was very watered down. They were not replaced and they were not taken off of the check. It took us forever to get our check and once we finally did, their machine was not reading our card. They came back to ask if we had an alternate form of payment, which we did not at the time, and they kept trying to run it over and over. Finally after 20 minutes of waiting, they manually entered the information into their machine and it had worked, indicating that their machine is faulty as well. I know that Denny's isn't supposed to be a four-star restaurant by any stretch, but the service was an absolute joke and this experience an absolute atrocity. It was certainly disappointing because I was fond of the Denny's brand and I feel like this particular location tarnishes that brand immensely. There are far better breakfast establishments in town, and I would strongly recommend just about anywhere over this place.

AVOID THIS ESTABLISHMENT AT ALL COSTS! The service here was ridiculous. We came to this Denny's around 10:20 PM, and it took more than ten minutes for anyone to even acknowledge us. When we asked for a take-out menu, the waiter shoved a menu at us without so much as a smile or a word before leaving us to be serviced by someone else. When ordering, we had to repeat our order FOUR times before the waitress finally got it right. We then waited for 30 minutes for our food to come out only to discover that our order was incorrect. Instead of Sticky Buns french toast, they had given me regular french toast. To correct it, all the staff did was squirt chocolate sauce and syrup over the same toast in a haphazard manner. There were more than enough workers at the restaurant and due to the late hour only a few customers, but the servers were wasting time chit-chatting and ignoring the patrons. The line of customers waiting to be serviced stretched out the door. There were also several tables in plain view that were littered with trash and no one was attempting to clear them. Needless to say, we were very disappointed at the level of inattentiveness and lack of customer service at this establishment. This place definitely deserves ZERO STARS! The manager should really change the staff at this restaurant.

Sad to say, but this was the best food and service we received while visiting Memphis. The waitress was polite. The price and food were good.

This Denny's should be shut down because it is not to PAR to the other Denny's I have been to all over U.S. Their is no service, the place is dirty, and management does not care at all. Everybody should be fired and start all over again or at least change the name so it would not embarrass the Denny's chain. After reading the other reviews, I guess I am not the only person that is disappointed of this establishment. Too bad it is the only Denny's in Memphis.

It was 3AM, none of my other late-night stops were open, and a friend and I said "Hey, Let's go to Denny's". The end result was both of us feeling like we needed our stomach pumped, and it was the Denny's, not the alcohol that made us feel that way. Bad service and bad food. Denny's isn't exactly great to begin with, but this Denny's gets 1 star in comparison to the average Denny's experience. Avoid at all costs.

Had an hour before our hotel check out, so we went to this Denny's for what we thought would be a quick breakfast. Placed our order and waited, and waited, and waited. The restaurant was not that busy. I noticed customers coming in the door, waiting to be seated, and leaving because no one ever came to seat them. 30 min until check out....20 min until check out. Still no food. Finally waitress comes over and says she's about to get our food. Another 10 min and still no food. We threw some money on the table for our drinks and left. Avoid this Denny's unless you've got time to spare.

On a regular basis, I am not the biggest fan of Denny's or IHOP. But desperate times call for desperate measures. Inebriated, happy people were in dire need of carbohydrates and meat to remain happy, pronto! Inebriated, cranky people are the worst people to be around, and Denny's was two short blocks away from AutoZone Park. So to Denny's we went. Did you see that part in the above paragraph where I said inebriated people need food pronto? Well, there was definitely no pronto during this meal. Granted, it was partially my fault initially since I could not decide right away what I wanted to order (a very unpopular move if my companions' groans were an indication), but I am perplexed why it had to take another 10 minutes for our server to come back and take our order. It took so long that I could feel my companions' heroic struggle not to throw me dirty looks. It took so long that I kept chanting under my breath, "You are not in fast-paced California. You are not in fast-paced California. You are not in fast-paced California." It took so long that I could feel the crankiness creep into our otherwise fun night. It took so long that my RBF (Resting B*tch Face for you novices) could no longer be tamed by my big smiles. It took about thirty minutes from the time we were seated for our food to arrive. Of course they were all divine. We were starving when we arrived and famished by the time we got our food. At least the waitress was all pretty smiles. It made it difficult for me to allow the Hungry Monster Clarice take over, for which I am truly grateful because Hungry Monster Clarice has an incredible knack for ruining everybody's good mood. If you were looking for cheap, late-night place very near the ball park, go here. But if you can at all drive or hold it together a bit longer to find a better dining place, do so.

I wish I could give 0 stars. This place was absolutely terrible. And.. let's be honest, that's what you expect from a Dennys. I wouldn't bother with a review, but I simply can't not. So my father in-law chose Denny's for lunch, it was his birthday, and a big family get together, which is hard to arrange between jobs and kids.. so... hubby and I sucked it up and went. Over 50% of what we ordered, they were out of. No pico de gallo, no avocado, no milk, no jalapenos, no mushrooms, no chicken tenders, no...FOOD! And let me just say... you are a BREAKFAST JOINT... how can you not have milk??? By the time we left, hubby and I were just grumpy.

I'm not one to bandy about expletives needlessly, especially in Yelp reviews. But, this place is a total and absolutely undeniable shithole. Would give 0 stars if possible. Avoid at all costs. Every time I've been to this location (twice, no more, ever agin), our party was the only one in the restaurant. So, the staff act in an *openly* unprofessional and relaxed manner: playing music from cell phones during service or ignoring guests to talk or joke amongst themselves. Don't do this in front of guests. Plus, they often were not in uniform, choosing instead to wear casual apparel (pet peeve). The food is bad: edible, but bad. Paying at the host stand was a comical and overly difficult experience. This location alone has totally tarnished my perception of the Denny's brand. How the hell do you run and keep open a location this dreadful? It can't be doing well by any means. Denny's corporate must be totally inept and totally hands-off with their stores.

  • Wayne R.

Why can't Yelp allow for lower than 1 star? The only decent part about this Denny's is the food. When we went, we were the only ones there, and the service was still slow! We asked for ranch, twice, but were ignored. I am surprised that the Denny's franchise is allowing this restaurant to stay open for business. Every other Denny's I've eaten at previously were fantastic. This is a horrible place for someone to have a first impression of a Denny's.

  • Sue W.

We've been at the table an hour and no food. Don't come here if you're hungry or in a hurry. The bathrooms are dirty with no TP. Slow staff! There are so many other places downtown you can go.

  • Kassie R.

We ate breakfast here most days that we were in Memphis because it was conveniently located next to our hotel. The french toast and pancakes were pretty good - you would think that it would be hard to mess up breakfast, but then when they delivered the "healthy" meals... they never served the fruit, the eggs were over cooked, and they were all absolutely doused in cheese (even when cheese wasn't part of the meal)... not at all what I usually expect from Dennys. The service was terrible. The waitresses were all on their phones, one answered her phone as she was walking away from the table. It took forever for us to get our drinks, our orders taken, food delivered, and our checks. I wish we hadn't taken so long to find somewhere else to eat our breakfasts... check out my other reviews for a MUCH better Memphis breakfast experience.

After 45 minutes of sitting, we finally left when they brought our order to us wrong. We love to eat breakfast at Denny's when we travel. This one is definitely in need of new management and staff.

I walked into restaurant and was ignored for 7 minutes. Employees are talking negative about me in the kitchen. I will never come back to this restaurant when certain staff working.

Horrible service one worker just sitting down doing nothing while I waited for 10 minutes just for someone to acknowledge me. food was ok come on it is Dennys. they need to either do some thorough retraining or just clean house and start with new employees. the tables were dirty and the floors needed to cleaned. really I am surprised I got served at all and that it was edible.

The food was ok but the business was dirty and out dated. No professionalism non what so ever. The waitress was ghetto and when my family and i walked in she grab sum menus and walked off. I guess we were suppose to follow her but, she didnt welcome us or ask how many like other restaurants.. So i was a bit confused. Me and my husband sat and waited 15 minutes before she took our order. I wanted to leave but he (my husband) insisted on staying. So i went to go change my son and the restroom was DISGUSTING!! AND a staff member was mopping the floor with trash still on it wtf. So i went back to the table and still no waitress,no drinks or silverware. I was done after that.. So right when we were about to leave the waitress finally came over, poppin her gum and chewing like a horse. We ordered and she brought the drinks back quite fast. But then she asked us to taste our oj to make sure it tasted ok cause people had been complaining about the taste. I was in shock! Who does that? So i wolfed my food down so we could pay and go. But all i could hear was the staff laughing and making rude jokes from the kitchen area..REALLY. I wouldnt tell my worst enemy about this dennys seeing its the only one in memphis,im really surprised health department ain't shut it down.. I give them 2 thumbs down. I wont be going back!

Slow, slow, slow, slow service. When I walked in to get a table, the hostess just pointed at one, rather than actually seating me. I sat down, and was greeted by a server about five minutes later. Ten minutes later, she came back with my coffee and took my order. Twenty minutes later, she came back with my food. By the time I ate and paid the bill, I had been there almost an hour. I had a similar experience at this Denny's a year earlier. Not sure why I went back.

Read the reviews and was skeptical but I was in no hurry so I figured, what the heck. Excellent food, atmosphere and service. As for timeliness, I was in and out in 15 minutes. No complaints here.

Traditional meal quality Not particularly busy @ time but service speed "underwhelms". Though friendly servers, they are not motivated to move beyond their "preset" cruise control. Avoid during lunch hour if you don't have the time.

Hadn't been to a Dennys in a while. I used to count on it for a good strd breakfast. We went to this one here in Memphis. I was greeted by dirty floors and an indifferent hostess. Given my prior food experience in this town, I have little tolerance for dirty. Hostess of course takes me to a dirty table. We left. I recommend not going in 1st place
