We had a high school reunion in Gatlinburg. We graduated from Baumholder American High School in Germany. We were so excited to go up the tram to get a taste of the country we called home as teenagers. We may be a bit critical, because we have had the real deal, but we mostly went for the ambiance. We were disappointed. The wait staff was not prepared to handle our party of 14. They were slow to refill empty glasses. When our food came out, several schnitzels were raw. Very raw. Wiener schnitzels were swimming in a lake of cream sauce bigger than the konigssee. When it ws brought to the wait staff's attention, she said that it was supposed to be that way, it clearly said so on the menu. really? we had to pull out the menu and show her. she was visibly annoyed. My yager schnitzel was cooked but it was tough and gristle filled. Very chewy. Mushrooms were undercooked. The pretzel? Over salted and not authentic. Pretty sure it came from Sam's club. It was a total fiasco. Time to pay, they could only handle two checks at once. They were running around like chickens with their heads cut off. They were so frustrated and overwhelmed that they just let four of leave without paying. The oompa band was sort of cute. That was about it. Avoid avoid avoid!

I enjoyed the German atmosphere and the Bavarian music. I ordered the Bavarian plate witch consisted of kielbasa and bratwurst with German potato salad (which really was undercooked potatoes and nothing else). Also had a giant soft pretzel with mustard for an appetizer. Decent meal except for the hard potatoes. Prices were fine but the service was slow (reminded me of how it is in Europe). I would go back if and when the occasion arises but not for awhile.

We got there around 2pm on a weekday....was seated fairly quickly and when my mom asked what drinks do they have the waitor was like "they are listed in the menu" kinda with an attitude so the 2 drinks we ordered they were out of. and then when we asked the waitor how do you pronounce "preztels and cheese" in the german writing on the menu he goes, "I don't know"....very unfriendly service and will NOT return. got the turkey BLT sandwich and it was piled high with turkey that looks like packaged lunch meat. pretty much a waste money. sorry - just being honest!

I am so glad I went! Despite the awful reviews, since restaurant.com had certificates & the whole Ober Gatlinburg looked like a fun place to stop while on vacation. I went back and forth with whether or not it would be worth even paying half price. but since we were going anyway, I figured, might as well... So happy I did! Service was great, Had a fabulous gentleman wait on us, though all of the wait staff was helpful & friendly( we had a 2 yr old with us) 6 people total in our party. Half the party had steaks, all done to the specification requested, I had the stuffed chicken & it was delish. THe decor may be dated, but I have never had that affect any dining experiance. If anything, I felt like we were in a giant bavarian coocoo clock. GIve it a chance, I think you will be delighted too. Always keep in mind that usually only the WORST dining experiences make people write reviews, they have only had, like 5 reviews ( all neg.) in 3 years.. thats 1 bad experience every 7.2 months...

Spending Thanksgiving in Gatlnburg with my family.went to the restaurant and lounge, while nieces went tubing. Just my sister and I in the lounge nobody else the staff could have cared less! No hospitality or ambiance !! Ordered Reuben sandwich no thousand island dressing on the sandwich ,. Had to ask for napkins and condiments. Very unfriendly staff. I will return to Gatlingurg, but not the ski lodge!!

My family and I went to eat here while visiting Ober Gatlinburg Ski Resort. We visited the sit down restaurant rather than eating at the counter service restaurant next to the ice skating rink because we wanted something more filling plus we had a restraurant.com gift card. There were only about a dozen people in the restaurant at lunch time so that gave me some concern. We had a choice of 2 window seats...1 was a beautiful view of the mountains...the other was a view of the ski runs and outdoor activities. My 8 yo daughter chose the activity side because she saw a big blue slide...our view ended up being a view of small bulldozers churning up and moving dirty and melting snow. As far as the food goes it was less than spectacular, poorly seasoned, and overpriced. We will return to the ski park, but will probably skip the restaurant in the future and opt instead for pizza.

My husband and I ate here for lunch today and we really enjoyed everything we got. As far as price it's bout the same as anywhere we've ate in Gatlinburg. The man n cheese stuffed chicken was very good and we also got chief salad. It was a big salad very fresh and everything was presented well. We had a great server and he took good care of us. Ask for Stephen he was great.

I was surprised with the length of time they took to bring us our food (over an hour). The portions of the German food (which this place fancies itself) were incredibly small. Will not return.

The staff seem to paid to be uninterested in the aspect of hospitality. Our waitress is focused on speed talking thru the available salad dressings, beers, and whatever else the "annoying" customer is asking about. The only laughing in the spacious but empty with clientele restaurant, is coming from the restaurant management not supervising the staff interaction with the customer. All of the previous reviews are consistent with my observations. The good point to this restaurant is that it's quicker to eat here than going down the mountain. The carpet is clean but for a few stains. The chairs and tables are clean and in good repair but for a few tub marks. The music is classical which goes very well with the view. The hotdogs were well done and hot. The Reuben is good the French fries are soft and moist. Which seems to be their standard for being considered "done". The Slope Side Club tasted good as well as the Cheeseburger. The bathrooms "are pretty scary". The girls commented that the toilet seats were too dirty too sit on. The flow of the water was too minimal to comfortably wash the hands. The waitress asked "are you ready to go?" Rather than "will there be anything else" or "will you be ordering desert?" So, we took the bill and wished she would have taken the effort to take the empty plates.

We went there for lunch. For 4 people the bill came to $75. 2 hamburgers. 1 Mac and cheese. 1 pot roast. 4 drinks. 1 order of fried pickles. It was all very good. The fried pickles were the best I ever had. But I honestly didn't feel it was worth $75.

We were honeymooning in Gatlinburg and went here for lunch on a weekday. The restaurant was almost empty. I didn't like the ambiance (the room was ugly to me, ok?), but that was the only thing that disappointed me. (However, we did get a good seat by a window with an amazing view). Everyone should know by now that all I really care about is food, so... on to the important stuff: GET THE STEAK. I asked for A1, but certainly didn't need any on my sirloin. It was actually a travesty to use A1 on this steak, as it was already seasoned so well. The husband also got steak (ribeye) and loved it. I had creamed spinach ("Spinach Maria") and garlic mashed potatoes for my sides and I ate every bit. My whole plate was clean, but I still ate dessert! (Hey, the wedding is over, it's eatin' time). THEY HAD THE BEST DESSERT. It was called Armer Ritter and it was a fresh slice of chocolate fudge melted between two slices of french toast... a chocolate sandwich! I don't even like fudge! Well, I didn't think I did, but apparently I do like it melted in a sandwich form. Even my husband, who's not a big sweets fan (he didn't even care about our wedding cake) ate this! We split the dessert, and I let him finish it off since I was already quite full anyway. Some of the waitstaff were young and inexperienced. Our waitress kept hovering; I think she was bored, because there weren't many customers during this time of day. I didn't mind because the food was so good. A nice waitress did stop by while we were eating dessert to comment on our choice. She let us know that the fudge in the dessert was from the fudge shop downstairs. The couple behind us was so intrigued by our dessert that they asked us what it was and ordered one for themselves! If you ever find yourself in Gatlinburg craving a good steak and unique dessert, check out this place!

I am giving this 3 stars because I really am not a fan of German food so I am not sure I have a fair frame of reference. I don't enjoy the taste of brats or white sausage. I am usually really adventurous with food but German just doesn't make the cut. Since we were in Gatlinburg I figured I would give it a try. The portions were huge and honestly I took 3 bites and was full. We ordered the Bavarian plate and a hot pretzel with dipping sauces. The only thing I enjoyed from the Bavarian was the kielbasa. The German potato salad (which I usually like) was ok but nothing to write home about. My husband who usually enjoys brats wasn't too happy either. If you actually like German this might be a good place. My German friend who was there with us seemed pleased with her pork Schnitzel if that means anything.

I want to be fair. The staff was probably burned out by dinnertime with all the skiers. That being said, for a restaurant that bills itself as a German-style mountaintop restaurant, this place came up far short. It took time for someone to greet us at the spot where you wait to be seated (after we finally found that spot), and during that time a staffer walked by and gave me a quick glance, no pause, no greeting and no explanation, until someone came to seat us. While our server was civil, she was obviously tired and service took forever. I think the management was poor on that particular night. As for the food, it was OK and seemed to be freshly prepared, but way overpriced. My schnitzel was adequate, the purple cabbage was OK and the potato salad was good. My wife's catfish was good and the hushpuppies were excellent. The slaw was interesting; never had that type before, with green peppers, etc, but quite good. That being said, for a restaurant of this type, what about serving a basket of bread? Or even crackers for the slaw? We did get the fried green tomato appetizer, which also was good. But, it all took a long time, considering we were there just before the evening rush and hardly anyone was in the establishment. Some staff seemed more interested in socializing with patrons who must've been friends than making sure other guests (us) were comfortable and attended to. Speaking of which, the chairs are terribly uncomfortable for a big guy such as myself. I can't stand curved backs. Now, here's the clincher on why we won't go back there: While the drinks were good, they were served in plastic cups! C'mon, no German restaurant worth its schnitzel would serve beer in a 12 oz plastic cup! Even GruJo's, the new "fast-food" German restaurant in Knoxville, serves its beer in genuine German lager glasses or steins! That being said, my beer was good and my wife's margarita on the rocks was tasty. Now, the tab: $5 for a 12-oz beer in a plastic cup and $7 for a margarita in same is too much. The total tab, with tip, was $56. Way overpriced, as I said.

Maybe I'm spoiled by living in New Orleans with all of the amazing food here, but I expected more from this restaurant. Ober Gatlinburg definitely has a German theme, and I had my hopes up for some good German-inspired food. There were only a few truly German dishes on the menu, and none were executed all that well. For the food, I would probably give them 1 star and go with the general consensus. However, our waitress was exceptionally nice and served us well.

Loved the food and the music. Had the Bavarian Platte. Everything was good. My daughter had a great time dancing. Highly recommend.

View is good minus the parking lot. Food was mediocre, service was mediocre. It was cheap, but I wouldn't go back.

First off, I gave 2 stars instead of 1 simply because of the view. Went here for lunch one day and it was maybe 1/4 full if that. Probably even less. The decor is very dated. 30 years ago it was probably a fancy place to go eat. The food is about that old as well. Being extremely nit picky but I think they got their plates from a cafeteria surplus store several decades ago. We were seated immediately (there was only about 20 people in there) and the waitress quickly had us drinks and was attentive when we were ready to order. i would suggest ordering off the menu. They do have an all you can eat buffet but it was 2 meats and veggies. Something like meatloaf, something else and then the standard salad, beans, corn, etc..... We glanced at it being seated and it didn't appeal to us. The food was cafeteria fare not worth the prices. I ordered the pork chops and they were overcooked and dry with absolutely no seasoning. The green beans were direct from a can and mushy. My caesar salad was the best part but it was actually the first time I've ever thought I had way too much dressing. Normally you get a few drops of dressing on a caesar at most places but this was pooled in the bottom of my bowl. My wife had the mushroom stuffed ravioli that sounded good but they looked like they were pulled from the freezer, boiled for a few minutes and then dumped in a pinkish meat sauce that tasted like chef boyardee. She ate a few and pushed the plate away. On the plus side, we did get our food in a timely manner and they didn't bring the entrees until we were just about done with our salads plus the waitress kept our glasses topped off and was very friendly. We stayed for a while but we mostly just talked and enjoyed the view and people skiing instead of eating all of our food. It was our first time eating here. We might go back but only because of the view. Not for the food which ended up costing $47. if we do go back we'd definitely know what we were getting in to and just plan on enjoying the view and possibly an appetizer or something.

This restaurant was such a disappointment. It is so spacious and has such a wonderful view, but they serve the same junk type food as the stands downstairs by the ice rink. Also, this might have been the worst service I have received since I have been in Knoxville. It is as if they think they can serve whatever they want and not pay attention to service since they are the only restaurant up there. It probably took 15 minutes to get our drinks and then 20 minutes just to pay. This was not because of how busy they were...the place wasn't even 1/4 full...The server was just super slooooow, not to mention slobby/unkempt looking. The prices were good for Gatlinburg, which tends to be a little overpriced anyway. If the owners would invest in some decor, a new menu, and decent servers, this place could be a much greater caliber restaurant. Something like that would make the restaurant an attraction and not just where you eat because it is your only option. I would definitely pay more to eat at a place like that. The only positive thing I can say is that they had good bloody mary's.

The service is very slow. Bar is not bad and has decent prices but it took about an hour to finally get our food. waiter did nothing but bring our drinks and food. Never saw him the rest of the time

Similar to the other reviewers, I was highly unimpressed with this restaurant. The only thing remotely appealing to me was a tossed salad with chicken, which was mediocre at best (although large). The croutons were stale, the pickle was mushy and gross, and it was completely overpriced. Save money and the risk of eating gross food and just eat somewhere down the mountain.
