I'll admit: I am new to the area and "real" BBQ. Growing up in Detroit, I had my share of city-style BBQ (which resembles St. Louis style), so I was excited to try this one out, based off of the Yelp! reviews. I ordered the Pulled Pork sandwich combo. The pulled pork was dry and had very little flavor. What made up for it were the sauces offered. There were two "Memphis (tomato based) sauces offered: Hot and MIld, and then a Carolina styled vinegar based. I tried them all, and fell in love with the Carolina style. The prices were beyond resonable. $5+ for the sandwich, fries and drink (sweet tea, of course). I was put off a bit by seeing the server/cashier in sandles. I would have gave this place 4 stars if the pork was a bit better, and the workers wore shoes -- or at least socks.

I don't get it. Mind you, I am a Flinstones-era kind of carnivore girl...LOVE good BBQ (see my Hog Heaven and Martin's reviews). Have given Whitt's several tries because I"m often in the airport and I'd whip thru the drive thru in Franklin when we just had to have some BBQ and didn't want to put pants on (kidding!). It's not terrible...but nothing that causes you to make happy sounds either.

We've driven across country several times, visiting BBQ places along the way. I was excited about trying another barbecue joint in Franklin. I am no longer excited. My review in a word or two or more: Pulled Pork...tender but dry Ribs...tender-fall off the bone but fatty Beans...uninspired and bland Cornbread...ought to be called corn cake...texture of a pound cake-not cornbread (too much flour, not enough cornmeal) Cole Slaw...like pepper slaw with a vinegar base...not bad Macaroni & Cheese...creamy but our grandson thought it was Kraft Mac n cheese...'nuff said Barbecue Sauces...not sure where to begin. 4 or 5 versions, none of which had any unique character. Tomato-based tasted like watered down large batch, middle of the road, one plain, one mildly spicy. Hot was thin and oily, mildly spicy; Vinegar (Carolina style) was "meh"; 'nother vinegar was "meh" plus black paper. Simply put--little distinction, no depths of flavor and no real character. Value...reasonably priced. Service...very cordial, friendly, and polite.

I'm a big fan of the BBQ sandwich and the iced tea. Don't ask me why, but they have really great iced tea. Also like the wings and the corn bread.

Food is fine but always check your order. I am the type that will go back regardless of service because the food is good. But they do not understand what plain means. And always ask for condiments. They will never give you bbq sauce without asking.

The Whitts in FRANKLIN IS TERRIBLE. The one in Belle Meade is excellent. I have gone to the whitts in franklin 3 times with terrible service.... 1st time wings were dried out and horrible , like they had sat out all night. second time they were out of wings and told me to come back in half hour or so.... third time today they were also out of wings. The boy at the window named BRIAN was rude and arrogant and slammed the window on me WHILE i TOLD HIM WHAT I HAD EXPERIENCED. When i called to speak to a manager , Brian told me they were " so successful here for over 10 years and not to tell him how to run HIS business". This kid has a lot to learn about business and was a horrible representative. He was giving me several excuses why they could not get it right. Not interested son, those who get it right thrive, and those who hire immature help don't. GO TO THE WHITTS IN BELLE MEADE FOR GREAT SERVICE, AVOID FRANKLIN AS IT IS NOT RUN WELL! OR BEST ADIVCE IS TO GO TO BAR BA CUTIE ACROSS THE STREET... I ALWAYS GET EXCELLENT SERVICE THERE.

For those of you who have lived in Franklin long enough to remember Herbert's BBQ, I'm sure you'll understand why, in the many years since Herbert's closed, I've been looking for a BBQ replacement. Whitt's is the closest I've found. Their shredded pork BBQ is so tender and full of flavor. I love it! I think it's best with the vinegar. Now, every time I come to Nashville to visit my parents, I have to get some Whitt's.

I agree with Chloe, Herberts was the best!!! Whits is comparable but they dont have as a good a corn bread or the develed eggs. Whits does have good bbq and the ribs are great too. They have different deals daily and you can get the family pack for ten dollars when its on sale. Place is clean, staff is always freindly which is a big plus for me.
