Healthy Meal suggestions for Mellow Mushroom

Finding (edible) gluten-free pizza can be a challenge in itself , but our son can't eat either gluten OR dairy, now what? Enter Mellow Mushroom, right on the traffic circle in downtown Franklin. Not only do they have a really tasty GF pizza dough, but you can get it any number of ways AND they carry a really excellent dairy-free vegan cheese (that actually melts). So take heart, gluten free pizza fans, you now have a lot more tasty options. BTW - their regular pizza is really awesome, and the staff is very friendly and helpful. MM has become our go-to place for family nights out.

I'm pretty sure this is the only "big" restaurant on the square, if not it's one of only a a couple. Therefore, it can get really crowded, especially on Sundays. Come to think of it, I've never been here when it wasn't busy. Unlike it's sister location near Vandy it has these huge comfy booths that I love. The service has always been pretty good. I'm not a big fan of their garlic bread, I prefer soft and chewy, theirs is harder. It's not bad, just not my preference. Out of their pre-made pizza's I recommend the Gourmet White, if that's your thing. I love pineapples, so the Hawaiian is a favorite too. Parking at the square isn't always fun. There is a garage up across from the Baskin Robbins (north of Mellow Mushroom) that I usually park in and then walk.

The food gets 5 stars, but service gets 1 star so overall i give it 3. It seems like every other time i go to this location i get bad service. Its really sad because the pizza is some of the best i've ever had and its always good. Back to the service. I don't know if they tips aren't great so they don't have good servers or what, or maybe the servers are too busy eating pizza themselves, but its annoying having to wait more than 5 minutes after you have been seated to see your server. Since i've worked in food for 8 years now i'm really easy to please, but they just drop the ball most times.

I don't have a whole lot to say on this one. It's okay pizza with a ton of different toppings and variations on the menu. I know a lot of people are big fans, but I've had better. The place has an interesting vibe, though. It's, um, groovy.

Yum. Yum. Yum. Mary likes loading up the kids and headed to the square for some veggie goodness.

This place has grown on me over the last 2 years. They do offer a variety of menu items and their pizzas are absolutely delicious.

The feel of the restaurant is very "mellow" complete with hippie style waitors, woodsy interior with the occasional playfully vibrant primary colors, swirly symbols and 80s cartoon drawings. The pizzas are tasty and flavourful and includes a variety of zany combinations and the crust (which to some is the most important part of a pizza) is actually very good - thin and chewy. A major thumbs down for me is that the place has horrible service. It's a real turn off when you request tobasco at the beginning of the meal and you recieve it (after asking twice) at the end of it. I'd say the service is TOO mellow for my taste.

This was a hard decision between 3 and 4 stars. I really like the food, but unless you know where to find the bargains on the menu, it can cost more than it should. I used to come here during the week with some guys from work for lunch, and would take advantage of the lunch specials. Get a slice, a salad and a drink for pretty cheap. But I've found that the real value hides in the build-a-salad selection. I now go for the spinach salad w/ pesto chicken and roasted portobellos. It ends up being about $6 and a plenty large meal. Healthy too, better than a stomach full of cheese and dough. And if you were to come here to drink, which I don't, a Corona, Red Stripe or Pacifico will set you back $4.50. Ouch. Happy hour is 3-7 mon-thur, which is pretty lean if you ask me. They do have a decent selection of micros, like Flying Dog, Fort Collins, Sweet Water, Fat Tire and Arrogant Bastard, but at prices I think are too high.

Pizza? Not my top choice of food. But when it comes to a round experience of relaxed times, excellent beer and great pizza: Mellow Mushroom - Franklin downtown meets all the above. Young but well trained bar female tender, provided a good advice on imported beers. I just wanted a decent IPA. She recommended the Troubadour. Excellent. My wife got her favorite Stella Artois. Now time for a pizza. We ordered a hawaiian. Fifteen minutes later a juicy, mid crusty but cooked to perfection meal was ready. No complaints at all. Great service. Family atmosphere and yet a great place for a good end of the day on weekends.

Pizza! Yum! Actually, we love their spinach salad with fresh cheese and yummy bacon just made. The calzone has this wonderful homemade bread, with all kinds of tasty fillings. Best thing is they have about 20 beers on tap, including (currently) a bunch of the latest Yazoo beers.

I would give the pizza about 3-ish stars. I'd give the service 5. We ordered carry-out on a lovely winter eve, walked in, and our food wasn't ready yet. So the bartender was super apologetic and ended up throwing a cheese-bread in there for free. She also didn't hassle me about wanting a side of ranch (you know how some places can ask for $0.50 or something - not here!) Totally enjoyed the experience of being in this place - which was buzzing on the weekend night. If I lived in the area I would definitely use them for my pizza needs. The other cool thing is that they have gluten-free crust for those of you out there that need it.

  • Christina B.

Decent looking pizza but I had the double baked wings and tossed salad. I expected the ranch to be homemade but it was not. The blue cheese was better. The highlight of the meal was the $5 build-to-order bloody mary and appetizer trio with hummus, feta bruschetta and spin-artichoke dip. Yum.

As far as chains go, Mellow Mushroom is as non-chainy as it gets. I love the feel of these places and how delightfully un-chainy they feel. Mellow Mushroom focuses on incorporating fresh, healthier ingredients in to your desire for easy munchie foods like sandwiches, calzones, and pizza. The Franklin location does a great job of hitting the high notes you want out of a Mellow Mushroom experience We went here to get take-out pizza thanks to a Check-In offer they had going but I've eaten in the restaurant one or two times before this. We had the thai chicken pizza without onions and it was delicious! Between two people, we stuffed the whole thing (medium pizza) in to our bellies like we were starving. It could have fed three if each person had two slices but we indulged a bit and split it between two. We called ahead 15 minutes out and the pizza was hot and ready for us when we arrived. I've had bad experience with Mellow Mushroom waiting times before so this was a nice surprise! Pros: Tasty foods and totally worth the extra price for the quality of pizza over your typical chain pizza spot. They don't even have a fryer in the restaurants which is helpful if you're trying to meet certain New Years resolutions! Cons: It can take a while to get your food at Mellow Mushrooms if you eat in but we were able to get our pizza quickly via take-out this time through. Overall: Higher quality option for pizza and super flavorful! They also have plenty of options for your vegan, vegetarian, and health-seeking friends. Good location off of the square in Franklin.

I have had it delivered three times now. Accurate order each time and fresh! I have ordered twice for the employees at work and they love it, requesting to order from there again. Great variety and choices. The crust has a sweetness to it which I prefer. I have not eaten inside yet so I am unable to comment on dining in. I do plan on dining in soon with my family.

  • Carly R.

We have eaten at this location many times and every time it is great! Mellow is one of our favorite pizza chains and we always look forward to going here. Their craft beer selection is great, they have live music, right on the square/ fun location, and they also have great take out! Everyone should eat here if they want pizza!!

  • Michelle L.

The service was great! We actually had two servers and the hostess grabbed our drinks. I used the 15% off offered thru yelp and it was $20 for the two of us! It's ingenious that that have the sizes and Alice count on the wall for customers to see. I always wonder that when getting pizza. Had a small pizza and a full meatball parm sub. Everything hit the spot for a quick lunch.

The atmosphere was busy. It turned out it was bingo night. You get to win prizes and helps pass he time as the make your pizza to order. Food was good. Toppings were fresh. An all around good solid pizza. Next time I am in Franklin TN, I would visit again and try the different toppings.

Excellent pizza, excellent sides, excellent beer. What more do you want? How about the location/restaurant itself? Excellent. If you're in the area and craving pizza/beer. Go. Highly recommended!

The food was great the waiter was nice the pizza tasted amazing got with pesto instead of marinara. Use your check in and get 15% off. The line is usually long so put your name in as soon as you get there , it's definitely worth the wait and the location is nice and you can go around downtown Franklin.

  • Karen J.

I love this place. Usually a wait and now I know why. Fun and casual scene, noisy and friendly. There's usually live music on the patio in evenings which is always a treat....well, we ARE in Music City ! Pizza and salad were both perfect. Lots of beer choices too.

I guess I am a sucker for STRANGELY NAMED RESTAURANTS (see my other reviews!) Heck, I will make a LIST with them! This place has two large rooms with inside seating and outside as well, which was sadly packed on a TUESDAY night. I really wanted to sit outside and hear the awesome REGGAE BAND, but no such luck! I had the PIZZA: Mediteranean which sadly had CHICKEN on it- I should have read the menu better and had that REMOVED, but alas, the girl was starving! So I gave the pizza to my date. AMBIANCE? Fun, quirky, COLOURFUL, ALIVE! V SAYS: The COCONUT JAMAICAN MOJITO was delicious and worth more than one! Would it be a VPEAT? YES!

  • Marianne S.

Went here on Valentine's Day and absolutely loved it. We had the best experience. Came back tonight for dinner and had to wait 30 minutes for a table (even though plenty were empty) we then had to wait another 20 minutes for our appetizer and another 30 minutes for our pizza. I'm guessing the kitchen was understaffed because our server was great! Four stars because the wait was way too long!

Awesome pizza. Good atmosphere, quick and friendly service. Ordered the mighty meaty, excellent and quickly served to table, hot and delicious. Always busy, but not too crazy here.

2nd visit, service was way off but server was honest about his mistakes - manager comped our food (2 pizzas & 1 app) WEDNESDAY night is Bingo night and lots of fun! Beer selection is good - pizza is decent. Atmosphere is colorful for sure :)

So good for the kids! Pizza, hummus and a side of broccoli! Sometimes kitchen is backed up but this is our go to place in downtown Franklin!

Yum. That's what I can say about Mellow Mushroom Franklin in a single word. Yum. Mellow Mushroom Franklin is absolutely delicious! A great, eclectic menu with all kinds of great choices for pizza with a wheat option and even gluten free is available. My favorite happens to be the Buffalo Chicken and it's a must try! Well so is the Red Potato. Or the Funky BBQ. Well - they are all AWESOME! Now - if you are looking for a traditional pizza with lots of pizza sauce then this isn't the pace for you. This is a different kind of pizza - not what you would get at Pizza Hut, Papa Johns, or one of those places. This is GOOD pizza - how pizza should really be! The beer club is a must if you enjoy your brews and there is a great variety - huge beer menu; however the reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that every time I order the beer I want - they happen to be out. I always have to have a back up choice in beer because it never fails!! Super great service too! Nice outdoor seating available. If you're in downtown Franklin - stop by and have lunch at the Mellow Mushroom - you won't my sorry (well in my opinion at least).

Pizza not very tasty but service was very good. Mushroom soup was very thick and mealy in texture. Drunken fun guys was very good especially the beer cheese.

We went to the one in Franklin. We had to wait a bit but it was worth it. The greek salad and dressing is amazing! And huge! I'm also a fan of the tempeh sandwich-even carnivores will like this sandwich. The pizza was great. The service was fast and attentive. Overall, a great experience. Yes, it is expensive but the food is great!

Love this location! Best one I have been to. Mellow has the best pizzas and calzones ever. There is something about the dough that they use it is the best tasting dough/crust in my opinion.

So satisfied with this restaurant! Great vibe, DELICIOUS food, and great service. The best part about it was that they have live music outside on the patio. If I plan on going here I make sure to go on a Thursday night. The musician who plays this night is outstanding and exactly what I want to listen to while eating the great food. The pizza is wonderful, specifically the Gourmet White. I also love their hoagies! If you're looking for a place to eat in downtown franklin GO HERE! It is a little expensive, but you always get what you pay for!

Looking down at a bowl full of fresh spinach, dried cherries and pecans, all I could think to myself was "my body will thank me for this. If you order this salad, your body will be just as glad! It is so refreshing and filling! Just one of many healthy options they offer. There are also many vegetarian and gluten free pizzas. There is literally something for everyone. Not to mention the amazing singer/guitarist that was there tonight ( Tuesday night). He played lots of Beatles! It was awesome! Also great cocktails! My fave is the grateful dead. It's not on the menu anymore but you can still order it.

Great pizza options. Great service. Love the location. The Maui Wowie would have been perfect if they would have just used pizza sauce instead of pesto. The Mighty Meat (If I remembering the name correctly) was very tasty. Enjoyed the lunch.

The name Mello Mushroom had me liking this place immediately. Once seated, taking a look at the colorful menu had my mouth watering. The spinach artichoke dip was creamy and delicious! I highly suggest the Melloterranean pizza. I preferred it without the side sauce they brought with it. Probably the best crust on a pizza I have ever had!

I love pizza so much that I could eat it any time during the day. Breakfast, lunch dinner, it hardly matters when it comes to pizza. My boyfriend and I were left alone without a car for a few hours when his friend was unexpectedly called into work. This meant that we had to find somewhere to eat within walking distance.Thankfully, downtown Franklin was just a few blocks away, and 30 minutes later, my boyfriend and I found ourselves in front of Mellow Mushroom. When I walked in, I instantly linked this restaurant to the munchies you get after you do a little "something". I mean this place really looks like the owner got high one night and decided that it was a brilliant idea to open up a pizza shop. I'm talking tons of color and drawings of shrooms everywhere. The staff was super friendly though and helped us out a lot when it came to ordering our food and drinks. I wanted some sort of fruity beer, and ended up with a Strawberry Beer after a recommendation. Yummy for sure. As for food, we started with the Spinach Artichoke Dip, and split a Medium pizza. I loved that you could do half and half on the pizza. Boyfriend went with the Mighty Meat and I got the House Special which was basically a supreme. I loved the Spinach and Artichoke dip here. I'm used to eating it with chips, but this appetizer came out with some toasted bread. It went along perfectly and it was just the right amount also. The pizza was also fantastic. Hot, super cheesy, and just comfort food done right. I seriously think all pizza should come with bacon now. It was just so good! What made this pizza a tiny bit more special was the fact that their crust had garlic seasoning in it so even the crust had great flavor. My boyfriend and I loved this place so much that we ended up getting t-shirts. They were surprisingly cute. Oh Mellow Mushroom Pizza, why aren't you in Southern California! 5/5

Excellent pizza, neat building, decent service. If you like Mellow Mushroom, you'll like this location. The pizza is very consistent across this small, southeastern chain (I've been to locations in Georgia, Alabama, and Tennessee). The Franklin location is in a cool old building downtown. On the down side, it gets pretty crowded, so expect to wait for a table if you walk in at mealtime. And it's maybe just a bit tight inside. Service is generally pretty good, with the occasional miss from a well-meaning but young wait staff. Hey, it's a pizza joint, so I cut them some slack. The pizza itself is a thin, doughy crust affair with pasty red sauce and low-fat cheese. The crust is flexible, not crispy. I think they brush olive oil on the crust ring, and it is delicious! In fact, they make giant pretzels out of the stuff as a starter, and it's good. This is a kid-friendly place. If you ask, you'll get smaller kid-cups with lids.

We were walking on Main Street in Franklin, TN looking for a place to eat when we passed by this restaurant; it was crowded. When we returned, it was still packed with customers so we figured if it was still packed, the food must be good. We decided to chow down on pizza and beer for my hubby. The pizza was delicious! My hubby stated that his beer was great as well. Will return again when we visit Franklin!

Went in today with a party of 11 (5 kids) and they were able to accommodate us easily. I had one of their margaritas ($8) and it was fabulous. My husband and I split the jerk wings and we loved them. This was my first trip to a Mellow Mushroom and I look forward to going back and trying the pizza. the t-shirts they sell are badass, on a side note. I want one.

Excellent atmosphere and service. Loved that the pizza was on a wheat crust. Only downside was that my stomach hurt a bit after.., but my guess is that was because I ate too much of the delicious pizza!!

  • Jillian B.

I had two slices and a side salad - way too much food but it was so amazing. Pizzas take a while as everything is made fresh, but the food was worth the wait. We enjoyed the food and the service was fairly decent.

We like the pizza, and the gluten-free menu makes it easy for us to pick this as a family. But I also meet a lot of people there for lunch -- salad and a slice. In, out. We've also carried out pizza for parties and stuff, and it holds up really well. The outside tables are nice, weather-permitting, and give a great opportunity for people-watching, but I don't recommend it during festivals because it's kind of nuts out there. You MUST have the pretzels. You MUST have the meatballs. And it's OK if you're full before the pizza comes; take it home and have it again tomorrow!

  • Steve S.

I've always been impressed with the Mellow Mushroom. I've only ever been to the Downtown Franklin location and have visited several times. The service is always delightful and the atmosphere is pretty good for a pizza place. The menu is interesting with many healthier options and some dishes using local ingredients. I like that they support the local economy. The main focus is of course the pizza, but they don't offer just the standard style pizzas. They have several specialty pizzas that deviate from the ordinary. This location has a great patio that sits in full view of the Franklin Square. It's great for people watching and really great in the spring and fall for those that enjoy sitting outdoors. My favorite thing about the Mellow Mushroom however, is the awesome selection of beer. Once again, they support the local economy by offering several local brews. I've never seen a better beer selection at a pizza joint. The prices are a little on the high side. There is a trick though: before you go, do yourself a favor and grab a free copy of the Nashville Scene. They typically have a $10.00 off coupon in every issue. That brings the price down to average.

Appalled at the fact that y'all don't sell single slices on the weekend. The only reason I even go to the shroom is for Merritt

Was back in TN again, and was back at the 'shroom. Still good selection of local brews, and pizza is still tasty. Nice place for a date or a family, if you are in Franklin you should check it out.

It started with them not punching in the right order and having have to remake my order. 45 mins later, I get my 2 pizzas. They refunded my money which was the right move. However pizzas were over cooked.

  • Lyrad V.

The downtown Franklin Mellow Mushroom is awesome. The food, service, and atmosphere is better than the Nashville restaurant. They have great pizza and unique specialty pizzas. My favorite is the Magical Mystery Tour. This location has some items unique to this location that are amazing, including their homemade cheese and mustard dips made with beer that you dip hot pizza dough bites into. They also have a great beer selection with some lesser known breweries represented. That is always an added bonus. We aren't the only ones who loves this place. Expect to wait up to an hour to be seated on the weekends. We like to go a little earlier to avoid the long wait, but even before 6 pm, you may still have a short wait. The good thing is they call you on your cell phone, so you can stroll downtown Franklin while you wait.

I went here with my fiancee and some of my coworkers last year. It was my first time here and the food was delicious. The cheese pizza that I ate was tasty, and their garlic bread was awesome. It was also very affordable, as we split our bill separate ways. The service was also wonderful, and the staff is very friendly. I hope to come back in the future to try more food! :)

This place never fails to impress. We always get the house special pizza. Red sauce base with mozzarella cheese, pepperoni, sausage, ground beef, ham, Applewood smoked bacon, mushrooms, black olives, Roma tomatoes, green peppers and onions. Topped with extra mozzarella. YUM!

OKAY, I want to start by saying I am sorry, I really really really wanted to like this pizza, so let me start at the beginning.. We arrived in Franklin just about 4pm and stopped for some Pizza..I am on a pizza roll right now..Can't get enough of it...we have eaten at Mellow Mushroom in Nashville near Vandy several times and enjoyed it so we were very pleased to find one here.. We parked in the alley behind the restaurant...FREE but there is also a parking garage there too so you have parking options..a lot more than near the Vandy location ...so this was a big PLUS..We entered from the side patio entrance which was packed, but I prefer to inside anyway..I loved loved loved the decor...Loved it..with all the brick bare walls and the exposed pipes on the ceiling..a warehouse feel in an old building..I loved it..I loved the bright and colorful artwork , the tables and booths with ample seating...loved it all..and it was crowded... ll We went to the hostess area and they seated us immediately. Our waitress was so friendly and young...probably a college student..which I like...I love to tip them cause since they are working hard to get through school...I always leave them a 20% or sometimes higher tip..same with elderly...ha ha ha...really anyone that is a good waiter or waitress.. she was sweet..she took our drink orders immediately. Tony got his usual Budweiser in a bottle and I ordered the unsweet tea with lemon and lime and sugar on the side..it was good brewed strong the way I like it. We ordered the HOUSE SPECIAL pizza large so we would have some take home...thinking we are going to LOVE this pizza...full of hopes.. WELL...here is where it goes down here.... They moved a man and woman behind us with about 10 unruly children from 10-15 yrs old boys and girls and parents were either stone deaf or just didn't care..but the place was packed..and these kids were LOUD, up and down..bumping into us repeatedly..then about 30 minutes later she brings the pizza and it is on a wheat crust..I didn't complain...the sauce was so bare on the pizza so we asked for some sauce on the side..and about 15 minutes it was brought out to us..it wasn't the waitress..she had to put the order in to the kitchen..she kept apologizing..I felt sorry for her because she had the unruly table too.. The pizza was cold..it just wasn't good!!! The whole slices of tomato on it was YUCK!!!! the only thing good was the wheat crust..which we didn't order...the smoke applewood bacon was burnt...well needless to say,..we had more than half leftover..we took it home but I gave it to my neighbors dogs... With 20% tip and taxes it was over $45..I could have went to pizza hut for $10....and it would have been 100 times better..I won't be going back to MELLOW MUSHROOM in Franklin anytime soon...but I loved the decor and the waitress...

Great place to go with friends. This location gets packed on weekends. Like the atmosphere and live music I think Friday nights. Downtown Franklin is awesome.

  • Susan S.

Love Mellow Mushroom! But you're going to have to wait to get in during high traffic times. This location has a live musician playing outside from time to time. I truly love their veggie pizza at this location but none of the other Mellow Mushroom have the same pizza. My parents initially loved their Holy Shitake pie but corporate changed the way this location made their pies. Now the Holy Shitake isn't as good as it used to be because they use way too much garlic aioli IMHO. Their pretzels are a great snack if you're starving and can't wait for your pizza.

Their food here is good, but the service is atrocious. It's mostly filled with high school age kids trying to wait tables and have no idea whats going on. The manager with the goatee and ponytail is a jerk. I was sitting beside a large group of about 10 people who had been waiting for an hour just to get their check (it was during the holidays) and our tables had the same waitress. (Side note: this is Franklin, it gets busy during Christmas, hire more people so patrons aren't having an awful dining experience!) We also had to wait forever to get the check. But I have never seen a manager come over to a table and tell them they were lucky he did not call the cops on them for underage drinking. These people were clearly not underage and because service was so slow, they were having to go across the restaurant to the bar just to get another drink - which they card you at the bar! They were appalled (as was my table) that he had the balls to accuse them of something the restaurant is responsible for - checking ID's. He finally offered them a gift card to come back, but obviously who would want to after being harassed and they didn't even live here. He wasn't willing to take anything off their existing tab, but they were so fed up they just paid to get out of there. We didn't blame them and even turned around to tell this manager he was seriously in the wrong. That was the last time I ever went.

Best pizza in town - and great beer selection too! Favorite spot to go on a warm summer day and eat outside. In addition to the pizza, sandwiches are also good. The pretzels are a great appetizer...and the Greek salad is very good too.

I can honestly see why this place is always so packed and has amazing reviews!! We took family here when they were in town, two of them ate a large pizza between the 2 of them and said it was the best pizza they ever had and would love to go back here when they come back to visit. My dad had the mushroom soup and meatball sandwich. He said he loved them both. Excellent!!! My hubby and me had the hummus which was outstanding and the pizza with dairy free cheese. It was okay. I wasn't in love with the cheese they use for dairy free. If they switch to the rice one maybe it will taste better. I only ate one piece. Place is adorable, staff is seriously so very nice and extremely helpful. My dad and hubby weren't to happy on the lack of whiskey bourbons they had. Only 1 or 2 to choose from.

This is a hip little place on Main in Franklin. The food won't knock your socks off but pretty decent (we ate salads and soup). I have tried some and pizza in a Denver location and it was very good. Service was attentive and friendly. Sit inside or on the patio. Go here if you want something a little different. And if you check in on Yelp you get 15% off your check, oh ya!!!!

My family loves the Mellow Mushroom. We go when my brother and his family come in from out of town, so we often have a large party. The service has nearly always been good. When it is crowded though it can be a bit slow. Don't go when you are in a hurry. We love! the Mellow Mushroom crust on the pizza - I always get some garlic butter dipping sauce for it. One slice of the Meat Lover's pizza is a meal - but have 2 anyway! This is a great location for taking a little walk after you have had a big dinner. If you like beer - they have a great beer selection on tap and by the bottle. It is popular so you might have to wait a while, especially on Friday night. With our large party we try to show up at 5 or so to get one of the large tables. Great chain adaptation to a local location - Mellow Mushroom is good at that.

This restaurant is a very cool place to eat. The service was great. It has a great family atmosphere and you get a lot of food for your money. The basil and tomato pizza we created was good. We also split a chicken and cheese calzone which I liked but the chicken seemed reheated. There is a free city parking garage next door so you don't have to worry about trying to find a spot on main street.

this place is pretty tasty. i was visiting a friend in franklin and he had got called in to work unexpectedly so he left me and my gf at his house. luckily he lives within walking distance to downtown franklin and we found this gem of a place through yelp. walking into the place you get the feeling that whoever thought of the decor was on drugs, and lo and behold there are a lot of references to that little fungus that is part of the name. the staff here is friendly and helpful while ordering. my gf and i got the spinach artichoke dip that came out with six little pieces of toasted seasoned bread. it was one of the better artichoke dips ive had, and it was at a pizza place. the pizza we got was great as we were able to do half and half on it. i got my meat lovers on my side and my gf got the supreme equivalent on hers. the ingredients tasted fresh, and the kicker was that the crust had a garlic seasoning, making it taste just like garlic bread. mellow mushroom also has a great selection of beer, our waiter who i wish i had remembered his name, recommend a strawberry beer for my gf that was very good. ill stick with my black and tan though. quite simply, i liked this place so much i bought a shirt from them. im actually wearing it now. EAT ME...thats what a pizza is saying on my shirt. lol. if only there was a location in southern california lil pizza man, id eat you again.

This is my third favorite pizza place in the Nashville franklin area gluten free crust is decent a little less moist then I like it LOVE that they have dairy free cheese when we go to most pizza places we have bring our own cheese but they but too much on it and the service Is okay the people are nice but the food takes way too long! And they're always disappearing ill give them three and a half stars

Friday Night was crowded. More than 4 people seems to add 20 minutes to your wait. If you've been to any of the other locations this is the same deal. Food was good, service was on the slow side. However the server asked us when he took our drink orders if we knew what we wanted. Our bad - waited 30+ minutes and we didn't look at the menu. I would return but not with 5 people and probably not on a Friday night

Pizza: 4-5 star, service: 2. I wish the services was as good as the pizza. The Kosmic Karma pie was delicious and the crust was different - a hint is sweet which was nice. It was a light, but powerful 'za with pesto and red sauce mixture. I highly recommend. The service was bad. I was there on a Sunday and it wasn't too busy - I was the ONLY person at the bar. I sat there for a while when finally the manager noticed I was looking annoyed. After I ordered my meal- including a salad - the salad came pretty quick but my pizza took forever after that. Probably 35 min total. Again the manager stepped in to say it was coming up. They never quite got a handle in the bar service. Anyway the food was delish. Just don't go if you are in a hurry.

I really enjoy the Mellow Mushroom. The food is really good. Pizza and Salad always a good way to go. The crust is a little thinner then some places however I like that. My aunt was the first person to take me there years ago because she loves the mellow mushroom and there everything pizza. Now that I can't go with her since she has passed I can still go and enjoy the food and remember how much she loved it! I do agree with some of the other reviews don't go and eat there if you are in a hurry. Servers are very nice but its not the fastest service.

Vegan? You can enjoy a wonderful pizza and an excellent selection of beer at any Mellow Mushroom.

I am continually pleased with Mellow Mushroom and surprised that a chain has such good pizza. This is partly due to the fact that each Mellow Mushroom has some pizzas that are unique to that location. Also, I have been to other Mellow Mushroom locations that were not as good. So this isn't a cookie-cutter chain where all the food comes pre-prepared. I love that they offer interesting pizzas with lots of veggies. I have had the Kosmic Karma and the White Rabbit and they were both delicious. The crust on the pizza is really great. The salads are delicious too--mind you, the regular is enough for two to split. The beer selection is also great, a lot of locals and microbrews. It is a great place for kids and loud enough to keep an infant asleep or mask any fussing.

Overall good tasty pizzas topped with fresh ingredients. The variety is somewhat limited, though it can accomodate both meat lovers and vegetarians alike. Big plus: full bar, downtown Franklin location Cons: crowded, ambience is so so, waitress service is mixed and seating is painful. Pricey for a crowded pizza joint!! (i prefer take out pizzas that resemble similar quality at much cheaper prices and in the comfort of my own home next time...)

Mellow Mushroom. Gah. Just thinking that name makes my mouth water. They are a consistently good restaurant and they make me SUPER HAPPY because they have VEGAN CHEESE! :O Granted, sometimes they put a little too much on for my taste buds, but it's so awesome they have that as an option. It's the only pizza joint I know of with Vegan Cheese. MAJOR PLUS. I'm always seated right away (good timing, eh?) and the service is generally pretty en pointe. The waiters are always nice and are helpful with menu suggestions. Depending on what time of the day you go in, they'll have different stations on the TV; one day I went in and Nickelodeon was on. Another day it was ESPN. *shrug* A friend of mine liked their beer/wine menu; he was surprised at some of the options they had (in a good way). I'll continue to dine here because it hasn't disappointed me yet. GO MELLOW MUSHROOM.

Service is always great, food is always good and prices are decent. I am a huge fan of their meatball sandwich, haven't tried anything else there yet but had the meatball sandwich about a dozen times. Highly recommend!

Took forever to get our pizza and it was a Thursday night and only about half full. Waiter came around only once in the 45 minutes to refill my beer. Food was as expected for a Mellow but the place was run by a bunch of high school kids, not the service you would normally get at Mellow.

    (2)
  • Franklin D.

Eh... well, food was ok, but agreed that the prices are on the high side. I get that everything is supposed to be mellow here, but again, have to agree with other reviewers that there is such a thing as having your servers be too mellow. Food and drinks were slooooooooow coming out and it gets a little old having someone think they are cute calling you "dude" and "man". The pizza was decent, but for me not the great experience everyone else is describing here, tried two different kinds. Got a sausage sandwich also with onions and peppers but I missed they they were adding some kind of sweet mustard to it which i think messed up the flavor... and for some reason it had tomatoes on it ??? Sheesh.

I tired this place with a bunch of my fiance's co-workers and my fiance. The pizza here is amazing and very flavorful. Like similar restaurants it is great for groups, but unlike similar restaurants they also have some good vegetarian options. As for me... there is a reason I have a saying for how much cheese should be on a pizza. The saying? "There is no such thing as to much cheese!" And this place puts the perfect ammount of cheese on their pizzas without making them to greasy. Also, and this may sound odd to some, but for me the mark of a good pizza is one that can even be enjoyed cold the following day. Mellow Mushroom pizza not only tastes great cold, but in my opinion, it is slightly better cold. The service here is also great with the wait staff being very accommodating and flexible with customer requests and orders. I look forward to returning soon for more awesome pizza from Mellow Mushroom (second only to Pie in the Sky for variety and better than CPK) as soon as next month when family is in town. Finally, when I went there, we had 9 people splitting 4 pies and some garlic bread appetizers; thus, the final cost came out to about $7.50 a person... not bad.

I've had pizza a lot of places. I've had pizza in New York, Chicago, pretty much anywhere you can have pizza, I've had it. This was hands down one of my favorite pizzas anywhere. The crust was perfect. It's slightly thicker than thin, and cooked perfectly through. It had an applewood smoked bacon on it that just made it. Taken as a whole, they knock it out of the park. I'm telling all my friends, make a trip. It's well worth it!

    (5)
  • Heather C.

Ummm...can you say delicious! There is not one thing that I have had here that I didn't like but my personal favorite is the Cosmic Karma. Sometimes there is a long wait but it is totally worth it!

I like downtown Franklin in general, so I am a fan of the location for sure. The only & past two times I've been, I have gotten the most amazing soup ever - the magic mushroom soup that is! It's fabulous, and that's an understatement. Then again, I have an odd affinity for strange soups, no matter the season. I also had their variation of vegetable pizza, while I can't think of the exact name. It was good! It didn't blow my mind or anything, hence I probably won't be ordering it again. I actually thought about ordering the soup in mass amounts and picking it up as a to-go order. Did I mention they have awesome mushroom soup?? :)

Great pricing and AMAZING pizza!!! Must go to if you're in the area. I didn't think too much of it before I went inside, since we don't have any in California.. but man, this is DAMN GOOD PIZZA!!! :D awesome pricing too

I've been to many Mellow Mushrooms in my day - okay, I've been to 4 - and this one is by far my favorite. I was concerned when we went on a Friday because a) I assumed there was no possible way that we could get a table at a reasonable time and b) I was concerned about parking. Well, problem B solved itself quickly. The parking garage next to the courthouse had ample space and let out almost right into the front door. As for problem A...a 20 minute wait on a Friday night is nothing to sneeze at. We were at our seats before we knew it. Well, okay, yes, we did know it. Our waitress was extremely attentive...to the point that she practically camped at our table. You have to love service when you can ALWAYS find the wait staff. She kept our water full and the TVs on the game we wanted. Extra tip for that. Of course, there's beer there. Left Hand Milk Stout on draft...say no more. Oh yeah, the food. The food was good...other than the pretzels (which are not pretzels...they are breadsticks in pretzel shape), we all ordered hoagies. I had a capri. It was absolutely fantastic. I recommend getting a good seat to people watch if you go...the crowd was...interesting.

Came down here on a visit and it was recommended by a friend. Pizza is ok. Little too greasy and bit too much cheese. Very nice atmosphere, and the locals dig it because it was way busy on the weekend. Staff is very pleasant and the decor has tributes to Bob Marley and other fine artists, so that gets a plus certainly. This is apparently a chain so I will try it out here. I think it would be a good place to take a bunch of kids after a little league game. I think the pizza suites that. Not my favorite, but a nice place to have in town.

We always enjoy going to the Franklin Mellow Mushroom. The food is great and they even have gluten free options. They have a game room for the kids and a fun atmosphere. I like the peperoni but my wife and kids like the garlic, feta, basil, and tomato pizza, it has a name but I don't remember it. Our family tends to like fresh and healthy options when we eat at restaurants. You really should stop by because after you eat a stroll down downtown Franklin TN is great.

Three words: Mighty Meaty Pizza Are you kidding? I might have been a bit famished after my flight from LA, so that might sway my review a bit. But seriously, one of the best pizzas I've had. Loved all the toppings, but the crust was my favorite part - kind of like a garlic bread in itself.

Great friendly service, yummy food. Minus one star for not offering calamari(compliment italian) or fries of any kind or a yummy fried app item. Clean booths and clean bathroom! YEAH! Felt welcome will be back.

The one star is for the great beer selection. We ordered a pizza with mushrooms and spinach and a tossed salad. Sounds simple. We got a cheese pizza scattered with about four leaves of spinach and five mushroom slices. The salad was a pile of limp iceberg lettuce topped with a handful of mushrooms, about three times as many as on our pizza! The vinaigrette dressing tasted like straight canola oil. And it took about an hour to get our pizza. We had to ask the bartender to check on it twice. When it arrived it was not hot. The cheese was a thick chewy mass. Cannot go back.

I love this place! Not only is the location of the restaurant great, but the food is delicious too! I have only tried their pizza, but it tastes AMAZING & was probably one of the best pizzas I've ever had at a restaurant! I would HIGHLY RECCOMEND you try this place! They also have live music certain days of the week, which adds to the great atmosphere! LOVE IT!

Try the redskin potato pizza-so different! This was an amazing pizza. Very unique combinations for others too. The greek salad is great too. My husband was very skeptical of this pizza but couldn't stop raving about it.

The soft pretzels are the truth! Great hot appetizer to get you started and a good showing of how good their crust is going to be. We love the fresh cut tomato, pepperoni and extra cheese pizza - but the subs (hot or cold) are way better than I expected from a pizza place. Mellow Mushroom is just a charming, historic building right on the square in historic Downtown Franklin that you'll love for a casual, relaxing place to eat. Half of the time, there is one of the many festivals or community events happening right outside the doors, so a table with a view is just an added bonus - especially for folks visiting Franklin.

I visit here regularly. There are a few reasons why... I love pizza, great service, and nice atmospheres. If I visit somewhere regularly then there is a reason why I come back. I love it when you walk in a place and they know you by name. Here at Mellow Mushroom it is like that! When I come in and sit down they know what I like to drink and have it on the table before I even order! Now that is personal service! Come in a few times and get to know them and you will get the same service. There are a few things I get here and I rotate between them. I haven't ventured out much from these but I plan to. My favorite is the Magical Mystery Tour. It is Pesto, Button and Portobello Mushrooms, Spinach, Feta Cheese, and Jalapenos. I always add chicken to this pizza, it tops it off right! The wings are also good. I didn't like them much until I started getting them double roasted. Just have them cook them twice as long and they come out lightly crisped and ready for dunking! Another favorite: PHILOSOPHER'S PIE Steak, Portobello Mushroom Cap, Artichoke Hearts, Kalamata Olives, Provolone, Feta, and Mozzarella Cheeses on an Oil and Garlic Base. and KOSMIC KARMA Sun-Dried Tomatoes, Spinach, Feta, Fresh Tomatoes and Pesto. I also add chicken to this one. The pricing review is also dependant on if you have people with you and what you get. If you are by yourself and order a medium pizza, drinks, and an appetizer then of course your ticket is going to be higher. You could be under ten dollars a person, but you could also be above that. Thumbs up to Mellow Mushroom!

I recently flew out to Tennessee for a conference and visited historic downtown Franklin. It just happened that I was privileged to being in town during the Festival weekend. Not one for public interaction, I ducked inside a quaint little restaurant. It just happened to be the Mellow Mushroom. Although I normally avoid restaurants with names that scare me, but this place was amazing. The staff was great! The Sweet Water Blue was refreshing and the Ham & Cheese hoagie reminded me of home. The only drawback was that I'm use to tons of grease and they didn't have ketchup readily available, but that's what I get for ordering a hoagie at a pizza place!

Pretty good for a franchise. Great toppings and sizes. A little heavy on the salad dressing, and not too keen on their marinara sauce. I'd recommend ordering your pizza "well done" as ours was kind of soggy on the center.

I am a pizza addict and this place rocks! There is your fancy gourmet pizza and then there is your good ol' everyday pizza and MM would fall under the latter. I tried the Hawaiian and the Meaty and they were spectacular. This is my new go-to pizza joint. They even have a bar where I had a mimosa and watched Nascar while my order was ready. Heaven indeed. Thanks Heather for the great recommendation. :)

Everytime I have ordered here, it has been awful. If you do not care for a heavy-wheat type dough for your calzones, I would not suggest this restaurant. The cheese tastes like imitation, what little there is, and the dough is terribly chewy, I did not care for the taste at all and it is hard to NOT like a calzone! I love healthy food, but this has been terrible each time so I finally decided to write a review rather than eat there again.

I've eaten at this Mellow Mushroom several times. Food is always good, and up to MM's quality. I appreciate the vegetarian options on the Mellow Mushroom menu. I love the old building it is in. The beer selections are super. I highly recommend eating here.

My favorite place to eat Pizza. You can expect to get good pizza. Their dough tastes really good and they have lots of good combinations. It's a little on the pricey side for a pizza, but I think it's worth it. I have noticed, as have other people, that service leaves something to be desired. Good atmosphere, lots of hippies, what's not to love?

2 words: Tempeh Sausage get it on a sub, get it on a pizza vegan cheese pricey, makes a nice 'treat' only ate there once, instead I usually get it to go - i don't like eating in the dark. the decor is cool though.

Psychadelic! I lurve this pizza place! Located on the square of downtown franklin, the pizza is out of this world! My favorites are the white pizza and the barbeque chicken pizza. Freakin delicious. The calzone is good, but the amount of cheese in that thing makes me want to choke. The waiters are super nice!
