just recently received news that the owners are hastily trying to sell... can not afford to pay their former employees... and the owner's husband can't keep his hand out of the cookie jar... the owner has a bad history of not paying business taxes

Sub par food and service, nothing special. The sandwiches seem like the thing to order from our party of 6. It is in a great location so if you are nearby it might be worth it. I went shortly after it opened so I may need to try again.

Ate at New South for the first time today, we had the BBQ burger and the Smoking Gun sandwich. Both were excellent, they even cooked my burger to order (and perfectly at that.) We ate at lunch time and there was a moderate crowd but service was still excellent. If I had to find fault it would be that the tea was a little weak....and that's being really picky. Will definitely be back.

Excellent little spot! The Smoking Gun sandwich is amazing and the smoked mac and cheese is very good. Good service, friendly folks. Check this place out, you won't be disappointed!

We were excited to hear the owners of Freedom Deli opened another restaurant and took 2 of our daughters here last week for an early dinner. One of our daughters loves mozzarella sticks and can be rather picky if they aren't up to her "standards" lol. She looooved these. Breading was delicious. Hubby had a burger and I cannot recall what it was called but it did have bbq sauce on it and he really enjoyed it. My daughters and I had chicken. The breading? Again, very good but the chicken tasted "off" to me. I had two bites and it wasn't good. Why then, did I give it 4 stars? Our server (I believe his name was Mr. Tim) was excellent. Some servers talk "down" to younger children but this was not the case here at all. He was ON IT; we never had to ask for refills or extra napkins...he brought it almost as if he was psychic lol. When he noticed I wasn't eating the chicken, he spoke to the back and offered to bring us something else ASAP. I'd enjoyed the sides of Mac n cheese and cole slaw so I declined. When we received our bill, I saw they comped my whole meal. I didn't expect that. How kind! As with all new places, there are bound to be things that need tweaked or adjusted. I'd rather support a local restaurant than a chain anyday, especially one who has such terrific service. I'll definitely return soon...only maybe not order the fried chicken and stick to sandwiches and the burgers until the adjustments occur.

The fried green tomatoes were exceptional. The fried pickles on the other hand were nothing spectacular. The flavor was good, but they were sliced too thin. The smoked fried chicken was not what I expected. The smokey flavor was overwhelming, and it was a patty instead of the bone in chicken that I was expecting. The service was wonderful, the staff was great, but if I return in the future I will be ordering something else.

Finally was able to check out a new addition to Clarksville's food scene. What a surprise! After being used to the chain restaurants it was nice to try something different. I had the Blazing Burger which was cooked perfectly and upon my request I was served some of the toppings on the side. The burger was made fresh and tasted delicious, not greasy like some other places. The fries tasted like home made. My husband just wanted a plain burger and again it was cooked to perfection, He tried a cup of potato soup which was very yummy. The waiter was super friendly and courteous. There are a lot more items on the menu that we want to try so we will return soon.

We came here because we were regulars at Freedom Deli before we had moved away. Upon returning we learned they had reopened as a new restaurant, we decided to give it a try. Our server was prompt, courteous, and overall wonderful. They only have two high chairs and no booster seats, so we were left holding our 1-year old. Our fried pickles appetizer was tasty. The breading tasted homemade and the sauce was good. That is about as good as it got. The smoked fried chicken was awful. Tasted very strange, fake, had a very "off" flavor. It was also pretty dry. When we scraped some of the batter off we noticed fake looking grill marks. I strongly suspect they use pre-made chicken that they just get frozen from their food distributor. Gross. The green beans were just your typical canned green beans with some bacon thrown in. My husbands sandwich was pretty wimpy, definitely not the generous meat portions we were used to at Freedom. Overall, our meal was mediocre, at best. Not sure we will return.

My wife and I wanted something different for lunch considering there are only chain restaurants around so we thought we'd try here. It was a huge disappointment. It was clean and the service was friendly but the food was awful. The food was far from fresh as you would expect from a cafe. You could easily tell the meats were frozen and the vegetables came from a can. Very disappointed

My wife and I visited this restaurant on April 06, 2015 for lunch. I had read about the New South Cafe in the Leaf Chronicle and I was looking forward to trying it out. We walked in and were immediately greeted by the staff, which was a nice touch. Our waitress was very welcoming and attentive. We had never eaten here before so we wanted to try a little bit of several dishes. We ordered the two-appetizer combo special for $11.99 and ordered the chicken wings and buffalo dip and the mozzarella cheese sticks. The food arrived hot and very well displayed. I found the wings to be awesome and they made me wish I had a beer and a football game on. They were unique and the sauce also was different, but very good. The mozarrella sticks were great also. For our entree we ordered the fried chicken and waffles, with onion rings and cole-slaw, and the fried catfish dinner with mashed potatoes and gravy, and glazed carrots. I have never had fried chicken and waffles before, so I was looking forward to them, and was not dissapointed. It was awesome and I would definitely recommend it. Also, the onion rings they make are out of this world. My wife's catfish was great also. Of course by this time we were stuffed, so we were only able to eat half of everything so we could leave room to try the fried twinkies. Really I am not a twionkie fan, but when they are fried they are really something special. Then we got our bill...we had two appetizers, two entrees each with two side dishes, and dessert for the grand total of $45.00!. We ended up taking half of it home and are looking forward to dinner tonight. The other thing I would like to mention is I sat next to the kitchen entrance door so I was able to glance at the other dishes as they came out and wow....the sandwiches look out of this world. I highy recommend New Southern Cafe and am glad Clarksville has another restaurant that is locally owned and knows what real southern cooking is all about.

I've ordered from New South before with no issues. However, today I wanted to order lunch and was told on the phone that the menu had changed and wasn't the one posted to their website. Ok, no biggie, she said they could accommodate a club sandwich no problem. Then when my husband gets there to pick our order up he calls to tell me they couldn't do it. Wait, what?!? You don't have anything there to make a club and it's a cafe?? I said ok just order a Reuben. He calls me back, THEY DONT MAKE REUBENS!! Here's a thought for any and all restaurants, if you're going to offer a menu online it should be updated the same time your in house menus are. This was poor business and I will have to reconsider going back or recommending to anyone else, which I refer people on the regular. Bad move New South.

I honestly would give this place a 2.5-3 stars. It is a shaky 3. The fried were alright but the batter was very salty. So I got about 2-3 min with those then the main course came out. It's always a little frustrating when you don't have time to enjoy or you have to speed through your appetizer. For the main course I had the "Pick 2". The pulled pork was good, but needed more sauce. The brisket had no smoke ring, was mostly fat, left my plate with a nice pool of fat drippings and it had no sauce on it. Not sure how they cook their brisket but it almost seemed oven baked or reheated based on the amount of fat drippings. The macaroni wasn't bad, but needed salt. Lastly the cole slaw that they make in house, dear God lay off on the onions or buy sweet onions. It was like instant indigestion and knockout breath. Anyways, these are just my views based off of my first experience.

My husband and I went for lunch here excited to get away from all the chain restaurants in town. We went on a Sunday. As appetizers we had luke warm pizza sliders and fried green tomatoes that were too thick and undercooked. My husband had the smoking gun sandwich and smoked macaroni and cheese. There was too much iceberg lettuce and not enough chipotle mayo on the sandwich, which was not very flavorful. The mac and cheese had a good smokey flavor but seemed overly processed. I had gourmet grilled cheese with too much soggy lettuce and broccoli cheese soup that was too thick. We had lukewarm coffee and chlorinated water to drink. Overall, this was an underwhelming experience which left us feeling ill. We will not go back.

The children and I wanted a nice lunch on Sunday in clarksville. Not much is open except for chains and we wanted something better. We tried the new south cafe and were not disappointed, we were greeted by friendly staff in a clean and brightly lit establishment. The service was quick, we had fried pickles which were some of the best I've ever had, some sandwiches (brisket was delicious) and my son had the smoked fried chicken (awesome). The macaroni and cheese was awful but the potatoes and French fries were perfect. The kids had fried twinkies that were out of this world and the bill was well within reason, we will be returning to this diner every time we are in clarksville.
