What a great hotel. We've been on the road for 2 1/2 months and stayed in a lot of hotels. Both the evening clerk and the day clerks were incredibly nice and helpful. The rooms are immaculate and it's the first hotel we've stayed at (including 4 star hotels) that have firm and soft pillows on the bed. The restaurant attached to the hotel is really good with good pricing. Not your usual bad hotel restaurant. The day clerk told us about a nice hike close to the hotel. It's the Historic Hatchery and the Spearfish Canyon trail. You can walked for hours in a beautiful safe place. Can't say enough good about this place.

The wifi works. There were enough electrical outlet to recharge my iphone, ipod, etc.. The room is clean. The bathroom looked fine. There was nothing broken or in disrepair. I really like Holiday Inn. The quality and customer service is very consistent across the U.S.. I slept well.

We enjoyed our stay. We were able to get adjoining rooms at a reasonable price next to the pool. Kids enjoyed the heated pool. Hotel was very clean and staff was friendly. They welcomed our large dog with a reasonable pet fee. Great place to rest after a long day exploring South Dakota. There is a Walmart and lots of conveniences nearby.

I was a little disappointed by this Holiday Inn. It is a pretty big facility, with the added convention center space, which is probably useful if you are here for a convention. Otherwise, it just makes the space too big. We spent some time at the hotel pool which is indoors in a huge open area. The pool is very large. There are several hot tubs as well, however they are separated from the pool by a fence, so if your child is in the pool it is difficult to supervise them from the hot tub (or reach them in a hurry if you needed to). Our room was OK but overall, I wasn't thrilled with this stay. I loved Spearfish and hope to return, but I would probably book somewhere else.

One person at the front desk on a weekend during tourist season is a terrible idea. 5the room was nice, although we were not given the king bed I reserved. They did knock down the price of the pet rent as they weren't clear at booking the total, final price. No breakfast, but the pub has breakfast for sale which was VERY good and huge portions for the price. I think it's overpriced all things considered.

This place is... Not worth $100 I paid to stay 1 night. Difficult to navigate how to get there on surface streets, though you can see it from the interstate. It took a half hour to check us in because they had 1 staff at the front desk on a weekend during SD tourism season. The room was set up in such a way as it seems they want me to make coffee in the same room that I use the toilet in. ADA standard goes out the window with no elevator available (or at least nowhere I could find- gotta be honest, I did not ask). The smoke detector in my room had a light on it burning like the brightest beacon in the night directly above my bed. There was garbage behind my bedside stand and under my bed. Staff was generally pleasant. The mattress was good. If you pay more than $35 to stay a night here, you are being made a fool of. I feel cheated.

Pluses - room recently redecorated, new furniture, very functional, lots of outlets, good lighting, comfortable bedding, fresh linens and towels, clean. Minuses - interior room, no exterior light or air available. Although not poolside extremely noisy. Immediately across from ice machine. At check-in only one employee available at 4pm on a weekend when hotel sold out, very slow.

Stayed here recently with my hubby & 2children. Everything was standard, which is good. The complimentary coffee, always out. The pool closed at 10:00 which was quite disappointing considering who wants the night to end at that hour while on vacation. Front desk was nice.

Third stay.....nice room, poolside suite---VERY noisy! Needed a curfew for swimmers and the annoying kids banging balls off the walls! One night it was almost midnight before they stopped. This is an older hotel, so not much for noise reduction in the walls! Staff is very polite and knowledgeable.

I was in a town called Spearfish.... Odd.. but awesome! I have no complaints about this place, free wifi (albeit not super fast or anything but it worked), good breakfast, clean rooms, friendly staff. Yeah... I think that covers everything!

Best bed I have slept in. The jacuzzi was a nice touch. Would stay there again for sure.

We stayed here for three nights during a visit to Spearfish last month. I stay at Holiday Inn Express for the same reason I frequently eat at franchise restaurants when I'm on the road. I know what I'm getting. This place is pretty much the same as any other Holiday Inn anywhere else in the country. Nice desk staff; efficient and thorough housekeeping staff; comfortable beds; plenty of hot water and a great shower head; the wifi was a bit wonky but basically worked; the TVs are 4:3 CRTs with SD cable - but hey...after 8 or 10 hours a day walking the trails in the Black Hills Nat'l Forest we didn't watch much TV anyway. Just showered and slept. There's a restaurant there, but we never tried it.

Very luxe, worth the price. Adjoining bar/restaurant is good too. If you travel with a dog, they will allow the dog to stay (with a small fee) & give a gift pack of pet items. I went out of my way to make sure my dog didn't dirty up the room because the bedding and furniture were soooo nice. I normally stay in budget motels, but I rolled into town very late, not knowing where anything was in Spearfish. I spotted the Holiday Inn from the green neon lights on the eaves (good marketing move there!) I felt like my stay was worth the $150 for one night, even though I was too tired to enjoy the amenities like the real hot tub & pool.

A very old 1960's facility that has been updated, but is still below average. Internet did not work after an hour of troubleshooting. Better choices are close by.

A decent enough place to stay. The room was spacious, though the bathroom was a bit on the small side. The room was clean for the most part. There were a few spots in the corners and under the heating/cooling unit that looked like it had been months since they were last cleaned under there. The ceiling also had dirt areas that could have been cleaned off. One of the lights was also burnt out, but it did not seem to make too much of a difference. They did provide hand soap bars, which I did like considering most places do not seem to remember that some of us like to wash our hands after going to the bathroom. The towels were large enough and not so soft that they left fuzz all over you. If you prefer extraordinarily soft toilet paper, bring your own rolls. The toilet paper here is a little more on the rough side, but thankfully, not the tissue paper thin one-ply rolls that some places prefer us to use. My one complaint would have to be that it took over an hour to get clean towels. They did respond in a much timelier manner when we called a second time (within 15 minutes or so). They did not bring the towels we had asked for (4 bath towels, 4 wash cloths, 2 hand towels), but in all fairness, I did not check what he gave me before he left, either (5 bath towels, 4 wash cloths, 2 bath mats). Overall, a good experience while I was there.
