We rolled up in here at 5 on a Saturday and it was totally empty. We sat at the bar and had a couple glasses of wine because all the local wineries closed early that day for weddings. They had a short list of local wines and a bunch of others. I would have expected more local wines for a wine bar so close to the wine trail. Anyway, we also got some bread and oil to pad our stomaches. The menu looked great and creative and if we didn't already have dinner plans I think we would have been happy with a meal here too.

Have come here a few times with my wife and we've generally been quite happy with the decision! The owners are always around and are super friendly, always willing to give you a free sample of a new wine and chat about the business. Wine selection is not overwhelming, which I think is a good idea for the location - this isn't Manhattan, so you don't need a wine list as long as a James Joyce novel. Most of the wines are affordable and good wine to just enjoy around good company. Have yet to try something on the list that has really blown me away but for the price point they are selling that's probably not likely no matter what. Food is solid if unspectacular. Best options are on the appetizers and small bites menu. Entrees have been a bit more hit and miss, but overall, again, for the price I think it is a pretty good value.

For the last 6 years, my cousin and I and our hubbs have enjoyed a Fall Crawl to Stops within about an hour of central Connecticut. This year I added two downtown Westerly locations to our list including The Twisted Vine which was an excellent choice. It was a beautiful Sunday weatherwise in October and while they offered a few tables outside on Canal Street, we opted for the inviting sitting area across from the beautiful, elegant bar indoors and In front of the fireplace adorned with twinkling white lights. The atmosphere was a real surprise: very warm and welcoming. It was mid afternoon and only a few other tables were occupied. We were immediately greeted by a friendly waitress who provided menus and listed some specials. The ladies enjoyed blood orange Margueritas while the guys opted for a Yuengling Beer and a Martini which I can't recall the name. We ordered a waygu cheeseburger which we split as we really just wanted bar bites at this point and the daily special oysters, Ninigret and Noank varieties. The cheeseburger was excellent served with superb fries and the oysters were fresh and delicious. Service was attentive and friendly. We really enjoyed the vibe, the exposed brick and beautiful wood along with the twinkling white lights and understated artwork. We will definitely return to enjoy their entertainment , drinks and small plates but were delighted to spend some time here on a quiet Sunday afternoon.

Food was good and the prices were very reasonable. Although the wine list was awful and for a "wine bar" they completely missed the mark.

We've eaten here a few times, and each time the food was excellent. The flavor combinations are creative and delicious. The service is attentive and thoughtful, and the waitstaff is knowledgeable and happy to make suggestions. I like the fact that neither the menu nor the portions are overwhelming, but just right. My one complaint is that it can get quite loud. Perhaps they can put up some noise absorbing tiles. Regardless, if we lived locally, I'd be a regular customer.

Incredible grilled cheese, we can highly recommend "the Steinbeck" it has brown sugar bacon and cheddar and avocado, with an egg on top!! Pretty intererior. We will go back for another sampling. Located within walking distance to an art gallery which was nice to browse.

This place gives me a headache. The inside just is not set up like a bar. The noise level gets extremely loud due to the acoustics that be. Drinks are..meh.Same old

Finally--I can confidently write a five-star review. This will be my first one. If you haven't been to Twisted Vine, go there. The ambiance is elegant and spacious; think cozy fireplace and dark wood columns with tasteful art gracing the walls. This is just the beginning. The staff will greet you promptly and seem like they care that you exist. You will be handed the simple yet sophisticated wine list, but not feel that you are being pressured to be a sommelier. You will order the wine, it will be superb, you will have a delightful chat with your friends. The waiter will wait until the perfect time (or break in the conversation) to take your order. This waiter will be friendly, funny and knowledgeable. Now, the menu. Again, so simple. Starting off with Grilled Cheeses, they have expanded the menu to include sandwiches with literary names like "The Melville" and do not balk at including foie gras or exotic cheeses for snacking. The drink special list features literary names like "Crime and Punishment." It would seem pretentious, if the food and drinks weren't so incredible, as I have yet to eat something from Twisted Vine's kitchen that did not impress me. Pay particular attention to the specials list, because the chef at this restaurant is skilled enough to keep you guessing and intrigued every time. I have written this before, and I will stress it again: it is possible to be a sophisticated, efficient and elegant restaurant without being SNOTTY. Twisted Vine proves this hypothesis. The owner is an unassuming, kind lady who cares about the happiness of her customers. How is this possible? I don't know. Because the Twisted Vine is one of the greatest restaurants (or businesses) I have ever patronized in my life. You are assured to leave the establishment happy, full, enriched and refreshed. In sum, Westerly, Rhode Island has a number of elegant and intriguing, upscale restaurants. But what sets the Twisted Vine apart from them is the idea that you can just show up and have a GOOD TIME instead of feeling pressured to be a snob, while having an enriching culinary and cultural experience that is satisfying and delighting. I vote Twisted Vine.

We recently had a private party at Twisted Vine. Pat was wonderful to work with; open to our ideas and as accommodating as could be! Food was (as usual) wonderful; service was great. My favorite is always the grilled cheese, but the house-made hummus and pita chips to die for! The atmosphere at Twisted Vine can't be beat. Exposed brick, high ceilings, fireplace, and lots of candles and twinkle lights. Romantic, fun and cozy. Great for a dinner with the significant other or a night out with friends. The bartenders are fun and attentive and make dining alone at the bar an experience to remember too. No matter where you sit, it always seems cozy and inviting. Our party included a person using a wheelchair. The restaurant itself, the entrances and restrooms were all easily accessed (and a little aside: since there was still some snow at the crosswalk (clearly the town's responsibility) but difficult in a wheelchair, Pat sent some staff shovel the area that needed attention).

We had our wedding reception at the Twisted Vine on June 22, 2014. It was an amazing day-the food was fantastic, and the service superb. It was just what we wanted-a party atmosphere in a classy and elegant space. Pat, the owner was a pleasure to work with, as she met with us several times to help us choose our menu. Chef Rob gave us exactly what we wanted, including the bride's own special salad. Many of our friends and family said that it was the best wedding that they've been to in a long time. We cannot thank the staff enough for making an already special day, as fabulous as possible! Thank you, thank you!!!!! Jeremy & Marcella Nardone

My gf and I got lunch here with a friend on Sunday afternoon on my way from RI beach to NYC. It's a cute downtown area with a few restaurants and my friend recommended this one. The restaurant was empty with the exception of one other group. The waiter was very attentive even though it took us a while to decide what to order because everything on the menu sounded delicious. In the end I settled on the Steinbeck Grilled Cheese Sandwich and we split the Calamari. The Calamari was delicious and the only reason I was hesitant on the 5 stars was that the sandwich was a little too greasy to eat the whole thing. However, my gf and my friend very much enjoyed their entrees. The food was a little on the expensive side, but I guess it's trying to portray itself as a somewhat classy place. I would definitely recommend it if you want a casual/classy lunch option with an interesting menu.

Excellent atmosphere. Impeccable service. Delicious food. My friend & I shared two of the grilled cheese sandwiches. One was lobster, avocado & brie on a buttered grilled multi grain bread. Prepared & presented to perfection. Just wish I lived closer!!

Good place to drink, do NOT eat here. Food was tasteless, service is terrible. Waited over 30 minutes just to put in an order. Was asked to write down my name, address, and license number after I ordered a drink. If you're looking for a good time the twisted vine is definitely not the place to do it.

now i know what the word twisted refers to in the name of the restaurant ...the manager s' attitude!!! after what looked like an interesting menu and chowder i ordered a "signature" dish scallops, shrimp and lobster on a pastry(not a good choice) and was totally disappointed as it was not even warm and the lobster was relatively cold. i sent it back for warming and basically received the same dish in return. when i brought it to the attention of the manager she was rude abrupt and unapologetic., its bad enough she doesn't know when the food is not good but is in serious need of training as to how to treat customers. i did note that several of the online good reviews were from westerly;where the restaurant is located. apparently these individuals have limited culinary experience. we did ask several of the locals directly of their opinion of the restaurant and they basically said it is a wine bar primarily which explains the poor food we were served so if you like mediocre food bad service and a very rude manager this is the place for you ....now THAT would be twisted. for good food go to the SEA GOOSE.....it is like night and day between the two places.

This place is such a little gem! This review is more like a 4.5 stars. I loved the atmosphere - nice large dining space but it still managed to feel cozy. I was a bit perplexed by the Christmas tree though. Next time, I will try eating at the bar! Service was good. Our waitress was very nice. I would hardly call the Twisted Vine a tapas bar though. My party ordered waaaay too much food because we thought it was a tapas place. All the small plates ended up being more entree sized! I'm not complaining too much, though, as we happily took home the leftovers. We ordered the Steinback grilled cheese (very rich - think hangover food) served with fried plantains, the braised ribs, the flatbread of the day which was , and the pate. All that food with a beer and a glass of wine came out to about $50, which I think was a really good deal, especially taking into account the quality of food served here.

I've been to the Twisted Vine several times, and it is always great. The service is fantastic, as is the food. I especially love the Puzo grilled cheese sandwich, and for me, the Melville comes in a very close second!

Food is priced right and won't break the bank... food is prepared and cooked right to order. It's liis fine dinning without the bite in the wallet. You will surely love this place. Oh, they have a nice fireplace, free WiFi, and an HD TV to keep you happy too!

The short review: Our hearts were set on going elsewhere for(Chinese, however they were on vacation. But even though our taste buds wanted something else originally, this place was fantastic (holding out on that last star till we can return). The long: Service was just absolutely on point. Similar to some real high end Michelin star restaurants in So Cal I've been to. We started with Toasted Almond Brie (see photo). That oh soooo creamy Brie with the contrast of the crunchy almond slivers was just incredible. Some previous reviews stated "make sure to get the specials". So, upon seeing Carrot soup (see pic) I though "this should be boring but it's a special". Boy was it special. I had no idea how much I now want more carrot soup. It had zip. As in spicy. YUM. My wife and I ordered steak. She had the Filet Mignon & I had the Strip Steak. Both were served on herbed mashed potatoes. Both seasoned and cooked medium rare just as we requested. And who knew there were baby asparagus? We didn't but it was tender and delicious. We'll definitely be back. Even on a Thurs night parking on the street can be a bit of a drag. But still worth it.

We tried Twisted Vine by chance, not having heard anything about it but the interior looked inviting and comfortable and the specials on the board out front sounded good. The place is in an enormous space, with a big fireplace surrounded by some sofas and a few tables nearby. There's a long bar and tables that are out on these wings that go out to the street. The menu is very interesting with choices ranging from small plates, to cheese and meat assortments, to sandwiches and entrees. We started with a cheese and meat plate which had some asiago, some local soupy and hummus and roasted red peppers. This came with really good baguette slices and some red grapes. The cheese selections are not very special but what we were served was good and the portion was generous. We also had an empanada 'small plate' which was filled with Tasso ham and corn. They were excellent, nice flaky crust and the ham was tender and full of flavor. All this was good, but we saved the best for last - The Steinbeck! This is a grilled cheese sandwich made with Edam (I think), brown sugar spiced bacon, avocado, and a sunnyside-up egg on top. Holy moly this was good! I really like this and will go back for more asap.

So, I went in with some friends just checking out the local bar scene. This review is strictly regarding drinks, as we didn't order any food. I will adjust my review accordingly for another time when I do actually eat there. We went in on a Wednesday night. Very pretty place. Pretty bartender, right there to serve us, and frequently asked if we needed anything. I believe the name if the cocktail I ordered was "into the sunset". It was tequila, compari and something else, I wish I could remember. It was completely undrinkable! Upon the first sip, I think this drink was made with butane. My friend ordered a vodka martini, and wasn't asked for any preference of vodka. I understand, it's a wine bar, but for the sake of all gods creation, if you're going to have a drunk menu, it should at least be good. The food smelled amazing wafting out of tho kitchen, and the menu is definitely something I want to go back for. As far as the drinks, stick to wine-at least you know what you're going to get.

We just went into the twisted vine to have dinner accompanied by our 19 month old daughter. I was informed by the second person who greeted us, after the first hostess/waitress asked how many then walked away, that they don't have high chairs. She asked if I had a carseat or something I wanted to put her in. Um no. I'm sorry but any place that doesn't have a high chair that serves food shouldn't be serving food. If you don't have high chairs post it on the door and help the supposed customer spare the embarrassment. Some people actually do eat dinner with their children. I don't care how good the food is, I don't care if its a martini/wine bar/restaurant. Get some high chairs or post it on the door. I will never return to the twisted even without my child. No high chair, no business in my book.

Great late afternoon meal. Cozy atmosphere and a good waitstaff. Had the short rib chili and seared tuna for apps, weird mix but both delicious. I had the Kobe burger and my wife had the filet. Both were mouth watering and done perfectly medium.

On a cloudy day during Labor Day weekend my wife and I ventured into Westerly looking for a late lunch, something with an interesting menu. Checked Yelp and ended up at The Twisted Vine. Menu looked good, with lots of variety, a bit like a tapas menu, but the dishes were more entree sized. Nicely decorated restaurant, much larger than I expected. It was a quiet afternoon, but our waitress told us it gets crowed at night. I ordered a glass of Jonathan Edwards Stone Table red from CT off of their "Interesting Reds" section and my wife had a glass of Secco Italian. Both very nice. To start, we split a salad of locally grown heirloom tomatoes, mozzarella and capicola. Tomatoes were perfect, and it was nicely salted and dressed with EVOO. A great start. Both our entrees were very good. I had the Alott grilled cheese and my wife had the Stuffed Mediterranean Chicken. Service was knowledgeable and efficient, prices were reasonable for the quality of the food. We will be returning to explore more of the menu.

Will definitely come back! martini was delicious and potent! Had lots of local wines such as J. Edwards and Stonington Vineyards, Didn't try the food yet! but will soon. They have fancy grilled cheese sandwiches and seafood specials. Beautiful fireplace and wood floors. Waitstaff is very very friendly and there when you need them. Noise does carry though. Close parking and walking distance from other parking lots.

The good....the grilled cheese sandwiches! Creative and very tasty...yum. The atmosphere is nice, but a bit noisy. The acoustics don't work well with the high ceilings. Nice selection of wines. Their drink specials have never disappointed. They make a mighty tasty pumpkin martini! The only thing I didn't care for was the disappointing tapas they offer during happy hour. We had the fried shrimp ravioli, which were overcooked and rock hard. 3 to a plate served with a BOWL of remoulade sauce for like $7 or $8, if I recall. A ridiculous price for what we were served. We also took advantage of the buck a shuck oysters, which were VERY small. They were hardly worth .50 cents a piece, nevermind a buck! Bottom line, if you go for happy hour skip the tapas. They're a ripoff. Stick with the alcohol and try one of their yummy grilled cheese sandwiches. Something different for a nice change!

Great spot. Unpretentious and fun. Food is great with a great price. The owners display interest in the customers. They just opened and have probably the greatest potential to be one best night spots in Westerly. On my fav's list

I'm excited to see all of the new options opening up in downtown Westerly. The Twisted Vine is such a cute little spot. The name gives you a good idea of what to expect - it is a wine bar. I've been a few times for happy hour after work. While they don't have drink specials (no where in RI does) they have a great selection of small bites. My friend and I split a cheese plate to go with our wine and it was delicious! In addition to a wide variety of cheeses they also had local honeycomb. Yum! I haven't tried the dinner yet but plan to soon. Another nice touch is the variety of local wines available on their wine list. I was happy to indulge in Jonathan Edwards Stone Table Red.. which I'm pretty sure is sold out at the vineyard. For late night, the bar draws a pretty mixed crowd. I've been there a few times and felt like I was babysitting (I'm only 25) but I've been there other times and felt as though I was the youngest person around. I guess that depends on the night you go.

Went here to catch up with friends and had a great time. We shared a bottle of wine and some tapas. The menu was very reasonably priced. I loved the atmosphere as well as I am a sucker for any place with exposed brick and cozy lighting. They had a great deal going on at the time, buy two entres and get $10 off a bottle of wine. The waitress was shocked we didn't want to take advantage of that offer but we were just in the mood for some cheese and crostini (which btw was delish).

  • Beth M.

Went on opening weekend. Very nice decor. Love the exposed brick. Owner came over and spoke to us. Very nice. The only downfall is the noise level. The tables by the front windows are better if you want to talk to people at your table and be heard. The room is very large and the ceilings are very high(and maybe made of tin??), thus, the noise issue- very, very loud! The drinks were great! We had a good evening!

We held a retirement party here recently. Pat and her staff were wonderful to work with. The food was so good...gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches were the hit of the party! The place has its own charm but we were allowed to decorate to our heart's content. A great time was had by all...thanks, Twisted Vine!

Fun addition to the Westerly night life scene. Went last night & had a nice time- the room is spacious & cozy at the same time, the staff is very welcoming & while we were there they had a live piano player who was really great to listen to. We were seated next to the piano, so it was a bit loud, but not so much we couldn't hear each other. I had some crazy martini- "Last of the Red Hot Lovers" which tasted like a liquid Red Hot (the candy) but was delicious. Be warned- that drink is strong & will hit you later! My friend stuck to beer & was probably a better decision. The food was really tasty- we shared epinadas & the seared tuna, both were quite tasty though the tuna was, hands down the better dish. The epinadas were nothing too special & needed some more "umph" in my opinion. We also had a cheese/meat platter which was really well done (although we did chuckle at the butterfly crackers- we had expected something a little more high end, or would have preferred more baguette instead). Still, the cheese was tasty & the fresh honeycomb was a nice addition. My only quibble was that we ordered Sopressata & I'm fairly sure that they served us the salami that was on the menu instead. When I asked the waitress about it, she told me it was Soupy (which it certainly wasn't), but I eat a lot of Sopressata- it's one of my favorite Italian meats, & I've never had it served so thickly sliced & had such a small cut of it- looked (& tasted) like salami to me. We didn't argue because it was tasty & there wasn't really any point, but be warned that you may, or may not get what you order. And I'm open to the idea that the folks in the kitchen simply don't know how to cut Sopressata either- no worries, it was all tasty & we'll definitely go back again. I'd like to try some of their grilled cheese options- I wish they were open for lunch during the week as it would be a nice option to have.

What a lovely spot! This restaurant and bar has a warm and inviting yet sophisticated vibe. It's our new favorite. The warm cheese sandwiches are very good. We had the Cuban and the Melville, both very satisfying. The stuffed chicken with the quinoa was outstanding. The filet was surprisingly small but nicely done. Service was attentive.

I have been to the Twisted Vine several times and have not been disappointed. My wife and I had several appetizers that were great. The wine list is good. i would like them to expand their selection of beers on tap. The only detractor that I can identify is the the room is large and beautiful, but could use some soundproofing. All things considered, a great place.

  • Mark M.

Wow, I have to say I was impressed enough to not only write a review (been a year at least) but to give it 5 stars. First, the decor is very chic rustic with a nice fireplace and comfy chairs about. The dining room is separated by a long bar 'counter' from the actual bar, which is big itself. Lots of brick and wood throughout with a few cafe tables by the windows to the street. Menu is small, 6 or 7 specials too. Had a simple baguette with a garlic oil, very good. Got a bottle of Zin, decent size wine list with some really cool beers too. Had the flatbread of the day, Awesome! I can't remember everything that was on it, but it was all fresh. Good size too. I had the braised short rib with mash and asparagus and the wife had the empanadas. Both were served hot and had good flavor. I can't wait to go back and try the grilled cheese selections, even dessert ones. There is a huge build your own cheese and meat platter section too. I guess my biggest surprise was the bill, under $80 with tip. On our way out I noticed anew Irish pub opening up across the street. Twice the reason to head back out that way.

We like the Twisted Vine so much that we've almost become regulars there. It is always a pleasure to be there. Great wine selections, creative and delicious martinis (the pineapple martini was sensational!) and just the right sized portions of a variety of nicely crafted dishes. One thing they might struggle with is that this is NOT a place for kids! Parents with little kids, please go somewhere else. This is a wine BAR and tapas-style dining place for ADULTS to come to for some peace and enjoyment in a sophisticated environment. The reviewer "Alicia M." who gave this nice place a 1 star rating because they didn't have a high chair for her baby? Give me a break! As a school teacher who actually likes kids and is surrounded by them all day long, I occasionally want to go to a place like The Twisted Vine to get away, far away, from kids. The owner is a lovely, welcoming, knowledgeable lady who always makes good wine recommendations. Please don't harrass her about making this a kid friendly place. Keep it just as it is--an oasis for adults who want to savor a great glass of wine and to slowly enjoy a great plate of food.

Such a pretty room ! That alone is reason to come here, relax w/ a drink and a cheese plate. The prices are very, very reasonable. The servers are personable. I can't imagine a better setting for gathering w friends and family. We are so lucky to have this lovely and unique addition to the local dining scene.
