Amazing breakfast, delicious, and affordable food. Great place to sit and wait for your train. The staff is awesome. Sit at the bar!

I went to 84 High Street for dinner after having lunch there previously. I have to say, I was pretty blown away. Firstly, our server Karen was near-perfect. She was attentive, but not annoying; warm and genuine; friendly and not phony, and really made us feel welcome and at home. We absolutely loved her! We started out with the clams casino, which was very good and flavorful. And for my entree I had the seafood Parmesan, which was outstanding--all the seafood was cooked perfectly, and the dish was flavorful and plated nicely. If I had to reach for something to criticize (and I know that this is ridiculous), the pasta could have been cooked a bit more "al dente." Also, the only reason I don't give it 5 stars (nothing to do with the food), is that I feel as though the interior decor could use updating, perhaps some painting in the dining room. My friend had the filet of sole and loved it also. (Actually raved about it the entire time he ate it). Said it was cooked perfectly, and that the mashed potatoes, although a simple element of any dish, were amazing. Atmosphere is casual and relaxed, and I will definitely frequent this place for a long time to come.

I love coming here! I have only sat in the bar area but I am a huge fan of the decor. I espeically like how they have all the tap beer handles that aren't in use hanging up around the bar. The staff is always so friendly and attentive. If there is a mistake made they quickly fix the problem. The food never disappoints. I had cream cheess stuffed jalopenos with deviled eggs for an appetizer...delicious. The genevese chicken sandwich was phenomenal and the fries were small but tasty. I also enjoy the great selections of beers on draft as well as the happy hour specials from 3-6pm!

The food is good but may be a bit "gourmet" for some. Marmalade on burgers isn't eveyones cup of tea. I love their dutch apple pancakes but I think the portion size is a little small and the prices a bit on the high side.

Great restaurant. Good variety on the menu. I had the stuffed shrimp with rice and green beans. Very good. Others at the table had the Hanger Steak Tidbits, Half Pan Seared Chicken and the Surf n Turf. All excellent. The only downer was the only gave us 2 butter patties for a table of 4. Amy was our server, very friendly. I will go back to my new favorite restaurant in Westerly.

I'm not one to gush over a mere salad but the Chopped Pasta Salad I had for lunch today was fantastic. I loved all of the ingredients including the simple dressing. There were big hunks of bacon throughout - no Bacon Bits here! Just a great salad in every way! I also ordered a calamari appetizer. I've never had calamari cooked so perfectly. I wanted to take some home to share with my husband & I had to force myself to stop eating it. Loved the garlic aioli, pepperoncinis, & tomatoes. I can see myself craving these 2 items often. 84 High Street has a wonderful reputation in this area & they certainly deserve it.

Had a great meal here from start to finish with basically just one or two little mis-steps. We walked in and were surprised to have to wait for a table, but the spot is pretty popular so we sat down at the bar and got a drink until a spot opened up for us. The bar has some good beer and excellent cocktail options available, and our bartender was super friendly and very helpful with suggestions for my indecisive wife. Once we were seated, our waitress came over promptly and was incredibly friendly and helpful! She gave us some great recommendations for the menu and the food came out quickly thereafter. Everything we got came out pretty much exactly as we hoped, with one exception - we got a salad and it came out with enough black pepper to cause us to send it back, as it just completely overwhelmed an otherwise delicious starter. The only other thing I wish was that the bar stayed open a bit later - it's a great spot to sit down and just chat with other couples and catch a few innings of a baseball game. But closing at 10PM is just too early! They'd definitely get more business (at least on Friday/Saturday) if that got extended to midnight.

Delicious concoctions Cool vibe NOT SPEEDY I like that 84 High Street, while not per se the central restaurant style target of OpenTable, is using it anyway - I had anticipated a long wait without using it, and was happy to be seated right on time having used it. It's a convenience here rather than a vital brunch-time necessity, but a recommended one. Then we dug into the menu. For me, Macaroni & Cheese omelet, side of hearty hash browns, draught of Grey Sail Flying Jenny, from about 6 blocks away. A strong brunch offering. If only it had arrived a little closer to when it was ordered - with no real explanation and under the restaurant's capacity, it took north of half an hour to get our food. That felt like multiple checks of the watch lengthy. But at least the payoff was a hearty, delicious, fresh meal in a very hospitable setting. All's well that ends well. The split of bar/restaurant upstairs and more typical restaurant seating space a half level below allows you to get two environments depending on your mood, which is nice. Also big points that, after a meal, a quick hop across the street puts you on a beautiful path to walk off your meal in Wilcox Park or to the other offerings on the town's central street. I'm eager to get back to Westerly in general and 84 High Street specifically...and soon.

We had to wait over a half hour for our reserved table; however, the manager made up for our wait with a free round of drinks. The food was great as usual. A really nice night out especially due to the fast thinking manager!

If i'm ever in the area again, i'd go back. Went with 10 girls for dinner. Great service, good food and all around really nice people. I would definitely return of needed.

My husband and I were walking around Westerly looking for a place to eat when we came across here. It has a diverse menu for food and drinks. The service was decent, with very friendly staff. It was a dimly lit restaurant with lots of open space, wooden tables, and simple decor (so not overwhelming, which is nice). But outside if that, I have mixed feelings about this place. I ordered a Hot and Dirty martini. It has vodka, olive and pepperoccini juice, garnished with good sized pimento stuffed olives and a pepperoccini. It was heavy on the pepperoccini juice and light on the vodka. The pepperoccini juice was actually not so spicy, though the garnish itself was. I switch to the Allagash White after and was much happier. We shared the fried calamari, which was fantastic. The banana peppers and sun dried tomatoes went well with it, as did the aioli drizzled across the plate. The calamari was nice and tender, the outer crust cooked to a perfect golden color. However, I ordered the Spicy Garlic and Pepper Shrimp pasta for dinner, and I was not as excited. The shrimp was delicious, and the sauce on the pasta was very flavorful. The pasta was waaaaaay over cooked. I mean, mushy...one step above putting it through a blender and serving it with a straw. When pasta is properly cooked, it should always have a firmness to it that can hold its own when any type of sauce is added to it (aldente). My husband ended up eating most of the pasta for me (he rarely wastes food) and I ate his fries. Overall, this is a good place, but I'd be apprehensive about ordering mixed drinks or pasta if I come here again in the future.

This place is so yummy! Yes, there is a little bit of a funky smell when you walk in, but not in the dining room. The food is fantastic. Calamari was perfectly breaded and fried. Loved the queen cut steak that my friend had and loved my steak salad even more! The atmosphere is really cute. And omg the bread that they give you with the chili oil is unreal!

Entrance for the resturant is in the parking lot. I walked in and live music was setting up to my right and the bar was ahead of me. It wasn't clear if this was the hostess area or not, I waited several minutes with waitstaff walking by but I was not acknowledged. There were people waiting behind me as well. I gave up and went to the bar, great decision! Brian was the bartender and he was knowledgeable and very attentive. He directed me to the mojito of the day, peach and rhubarb, which was amazing. His menu recommendations were spot on. I would highly suggest the clams casino and sitting in Brian's section of the bar.

Been here twice. Once at the bar and once table service. Our bar tender was Alli. They have great cocktails, great wine selection, great beer selections. Alli nailed every drink we had and made great suggestions for wine or beer to go with our meal. For table service we had Ida. This wonderful woman knew everything about the menu and when we had questions she took the time to listen and really answer them. Great food great staff great location.

This place is all sorts of fantastic. Even to this day, I'm daydreaming about their Dutch Apple Pancake. FANTASTIC piece of food. All their entrees are made when ordered and is why it may take a little longer for your food to arrive, especially with the dutch apple pancake (15 min at least). We ordered... -Dutch Apple Pancake - I cannot get enough of this. It is incredibly fabulous. It's a large pancake with caramelized apples baked into it. It's soft, moist, warm, fresh and not at all too sugary. It's about the the size of 3 pancakes due to the apples. The outside is just slightly crispy... mmm... YUM!!! *see pictures* -White Rock Benedict -- fresh soupy patty and hollandaise sauce. I loved this entree as well, just overall a great warm savory dish... Came with a side of crispy potatoes. YUM! A great contrast to the dutch apple pancake. 84 High Street... you can't forget where it's located because the name is its address!

Traffic was blocked on Rt 1 due to a fire, and we were 40 minutes late, we called and they held our reservation. We got in the service was excellent. I had a Peak Organic Beer and it was really smooth and even buttery. The 6 of us ordered entrees and skipped appetizers. That was a mistake of sorts. The food as others have noted takes time to prepare. Order a salad at least and maybe the nachos. I had the Wilcox tortellini and it was very good, nicely seasoned. Desserts were very well presented and tasty. A great place to eat, parking is simple, just remember to order appetizers cause dinner takes a bit. The wait for the food is worth it

Simply awful. The service for a restaurant that only had 4 tables being served was bad even for Rhode Island standards. Prior to their move, the food wasn't too bad. On my last visit there were 3 of us, we shared the cajun shrimp and some salad thrown together. Normally, sharing food is pretty much the standard when dining with family, however I would not wish my dish upon them. My father had the "special" that evening which was the same as the entree on the menu, a prime rib with a different sauce, probably the same, different color. When I asked the waitress what the difference between the special and that of the entree on the menu, she hadn't a clue. Bingo, it was a sauce, seems tough to remember I suppose. Well my dad had it and being as he is visually impaired, I cut the fat off for him which became exhausting. When the waitress eventually came back to ask my father how his dinner was he said "awful." Well my dinner and that of my girlfriend's was even worse. We ordered a pasta of some form, sweet potato fries and a side of kale. The kale, being as it was salty and we like salt was pretty good. The pasta was cold and so were the fries. We literally waited around one hour for this food. Good thing the girlfriend ate a bunch of shrimp otherwise there would have been a mutiny. My spinach salad was not memorable, but we were being primed for the main event anyway. Anyway, we could not find our server, so off to the bar we walked to mention that after all this time our food was cold. A very polite young lady, the bartender, was kind enough to find our waitress. We think she was working another gig in another town, but she eventually came back. Ok, so now get this. They nuked our damn pasta. It went from cold, to disgusting. Who does that? The fries were still cold. I wish we hard marked them with ink, clearly they were the same fries put under a heat lamp then returned cold after the walk around Westerly and back to our table. When our server asked how everything was the second time around, simply wanting to leave at this point I said "simply awful." Simply awful was direct and to the point and honest. A short and sweet reply to a long and horrible experience. We were asked if we would like desert and even my dad, a diabetic who would normally sneak anything with sugar just wanted to get out of there. After we told the waitress everything basically sucked, she told us "we will make it up to you next time." What next time? She could care less that it all sucked. I did not ask to have anything taken off the bill, good Lord, our whole dinner would have had to be free. So dinner cost around $110 dollars with the tip. We all left basically saying the same thing. The food was horrible, the service was nonexistent and why on earth would you nuke a returned pasta???? Why would a "chef" allow this to happen? To put this night into perspective, I am a vegetarian, my father the diabetic was getting an evening of anything he would like to eat and the girlfriend eats anything on God's earth. We were all miserable. Please go to The Pita Place on granite street and save $100. For a great night, The Ocean House. My diabetic father, who can't eat anything according to his doctors will never go back. The vegetarian liked the kale, the girl who will eat anything, ate nothing. This place was simply AWFUL. If you are going on a date, assume it is your last. The best thing about that evening was the fact that the car was parked relatively close to aid in our getaway.

Great service and beer selection unfortunately the food is fair at best. This place wants to be good and we would love it to see this place succeed but after giving it a couple shots, we wont be back for dinner maybe just drinks.

Went a little early for dinner, so we could catch some of the happy hour I read about. Ordered a couple of beers at the bar and was charged full price before happy hour ended. Why? Because the beers we ordered weren't part of the happy hour selection (would have been nice if the bartender had told us what WAS on the happy hour list). His mistake was reflected in my "tip" (i.e. zero!). Sat down for dinner and attempted to read the menu, which is almost impossible without an extra source of light. The print is so small you can't read the dam thing! The menu is VERY meat heavy, which is fine if you're a carnivore. Very few seafood dishes to choose from (boring and one of which had a bacon sauce added to it?) Other than salad, no vegetarian options. Ended up with the crab cake appetizer for my "dinner" due to a serious lack of other options. Oh, on top of everything you pay for the miniscule amount of bread and rock hard butter they offer. I've never been to a restaurant that charged for bread and butter? For a restaurant that is trying to be "upscale" they are falling VERY short of their goal. When this restaurant was at its old location it was one of my favorite places. The food was creative and very good. No more and no more will I ever return.

A friend and I were nearby and stopped in - what an EXCELLENT dining experience! Everything, from our appetizers to entrees (lunchtime, so we got sandwiches) was thoughtfully created, not too fancy or overdone, and delicious! The atmosphere is beautiful, the service was excellent, and the price was reasonable for a "special" lunch out. My only regret is I don't live close enough to frequent this spot!

We visited the new local for the first time and once again enjoyed the food. We were a party of 5 and seated in one of the new "private" sections that can seat 6. It was a bit awkward to hand dinner plates down the table since the waitress has no way to access the people seating in the rear. Food was again great, unfortunately my daughter's meal was delivered a few minutes after everyone else's. However the restaurant sent her a plate of chocolate covered strawberries to make up for the delay. We will return.

We had a great afternoon here while Christmas shopping. Had some delicious drinks including a Hendrick's cucumber cocktail and an old fashioned. We were quite impressed with there barrel aged cocktails, unfortunately the one we wanted was dry. Split a burger that was really good with some onion jam and good fries.

Best brunch ive had in a long time.. I had the "Eggs in purgatory" which was a wonderful concoction of sausage, eggs, spicy marinara and home fries. ...almost makes you want to be hung over. My wife had the crab melt with Caesar salad which she loved. The menu had a lot of options so I imagine would be good for a group, the bloody was good enough to order sans vodka. It's also a great value. I will be back for sure,

What a great surprise. My wife and I were looking for a local place to get an early dinner while visiting Rhode Island before we started the family Thanksgiving family Kabuki dance. We Yelped it and dropped in on a slow Monday night of Thanksgiving week and sat at the bar. Great selection of local brews. I had the fried oysters with horseradish dipping sauce and they were great but perhaps out shadowed by the even better fried Smelt. They brought back memories of cooking them on the shore of Lake Michigan in the dark of the night while in scouts. My wife had the Thai chicken wings and they came with just the perfect amount of spice she likes (not much!) and the sausage platter. I'm not a huge fan of head cheese but this was great and crispy. The Boudin wasn't like that I've had in Louisiana but a nice sausage. What really set it apart was a great staff. They welcomed us like locals and made us very much at home. Recommended without any reservations and we'll be back next time we're in the my wife's home territory.

After spending a month visiting Westerly from Scottsdale my boyfriend and I took his elderly blind father out to dinner for our last night there. We unfortunately decided on this hell hole. After thankfully getting glasses of water by our waitress right away it then took roughly 30min for Ms. Idontgiveableep to return to take our order. Dad's steak was OBESE. You know the kind of fat when you get a mouth full it instantly makes you wished you were a vegetarian? Lucky for him being blind he didn't know cause we snagged his plate and cut it down like a surgeon preforming a tummy tuck. Next they slapped our pasta and sweet potato fries down that my bf and I were sharing. Our food was lukewarm to cold. It took me about 10min to get the attention of someone for help (I had to go to the bartender). Who then 5min later sent our waitress back out... She seemed sincere when she apologized and took our food to fix everything. As dad blindly chomped away on his obese steak Ms. Idontgiveableep bops on over like she fixed the worlds issues and re-slapps our equal to cat food pasta and fries down less than 3min after she had just took it. Though we were happy to see the pasta was steaming we had already realized it was clearly microwaved. We each went ahead and took a bite to only get a pile of mush in the mouth. I regrettably reached for a fry to try and put a smile on my face and they were colder than when she took them the first time. We nicely threw in the towel and paid the bill quickly to get out of there. Needless to say they didn't offer to take anything off the bill. We'd never have asked but it's something you would expect after a horrible experience like this. We could only laugh as we still sat there. Ms. Idontgiveableep even offered to kindly box our practically untouched food up for us. We obviously said no thank you considering we wouldn't feed it to our dog. Unless you need to stop for a bathroom break I suggest you don't set foot in here.

84 High Street is something special. Especially for brunch. My family and I often go here on Sunday mornings to celebrate special occasions. Everything on the brunch menu looks and tastes amazing. My go to dish is the Brunch Burger: a burger on an english muffin with two eggs, cheese and bacon, served with delicious home fries. It is highly recommended, and may be my all-time favorite burger. I've tried several of the omeletes and scrambles, and they've all been good. I especially liked the Macaroni & Cheese Omelet: it was amazing! Oh, and the fried calamari is great. It's crispy and fresh. Besides the always excellent food, I think it's the ambiance that makes 84 High Street special. When you first open the door, you enter a cozy bar, that's great for cocktails with friends or that special someone. If you head down into the dining room, you can observe the chefs in the open kitchen. I like this a lot. No matter what time you go, brunch, lunch or dinner, the food and service is consistently good.

Underwhelmed. First impression was from the odd smell that other reviewers have mentioned, which was quite off-putting, but thankfully it did seem limited to the waiting area off the upstairs bar. The downstairs dining room had a nice vibe, with metal art on the walls and a view of the open kitchen. The menu got mixed reactions at the table, oddly seeming quite eclectic at first, but more limited upon further review (ex. a sizable number of dishes featured Gorgonzola, which set the profile for several apps and dinners, including at least half of the salads and pizzas). The meal and service left quite a bit to be desired. My greek salad was ok, but I found the steak on my nachos to be surprisingly flavorless, a sentiment mirrored by others at the table who ordered steak entrées. The service was polite but scattered and distant, including drinks being forgotten on multiple occasions. On the plus side, the desserts themselves were a hit; my tiramisu was very good, and the taste I had of the peanut butter pie was great as well.

Very good restaurant with a great atmosphere! This place has the food of a fine dining experience, but with a bar/lounge feel. I would recommend the food to anyone. For people that are looking for a quiet place for dinner this is not the place to go though. They have live music and great service. The fried calamari and mozzarella are amazing! Also the surf and turf is great.

Falls short of the 4 star rating. Why? 84 Tavern needs an clear identity. Beer and drink selection excellent. Food and service average at upscale prices. If they want an upscale restaurant to set them apart from others downtown, then improve food and service.

Bring back the Pizza!!! We used to love the old place. Great parking, great bartender, great beer and great pizza. New place is awkward and they've removed the best food item (waiter said they heard that from a # of customers). That and the service was really spotty was a disappointment. Really want it to succeed as the guy knows how to cook but they need to fix things.

St Patrick's Day might not be the best night to try 84 High St, but that's the night we picked, and what a great dinner we had. First of all, you have to understand that 84 High is a somewhat rowdy bar (at least on St Patty's Day) attached to a fine restaurant. There are dozens of really fine beers on tap for $5 a pop. The really nice thing is that you can have a great beer and not be saddled with typical bar food, like nachos and burgers. Of course, those items are on the menu, but you also have the option of choosing some fine dishes. We started by splitting a mesclun salad. A small was more than enough for both of us. For dinner I had the Chicken Stack while my wife had baked stuffed shrimp. Now I know you're probably asking "Isn't a Chicken Stack something they serve at Denny's?" The answer is No Way!!!. This is a panko crusted fillet topped with eggplant, sun dried tomatoes, mozzarella, and a garlic aioli drizzle. The result is something awesome. The tomatoes lent a bit of sweet, while the garlic tones it down. This combination really works. The baked stuffed shrimp were OK -- not great, but somewhat ordinary. We are definitely returning since the menu has quite a few interesting choices.

This place was one of the very few and rare places in my area that serves brunch on Sundays. That's what I was looking for because I absolutely love breakfast and the "man" loves lunch and dinner, so great compromise. The atmosphere was awesome, it looks like it could be really nice at night. The food was fantastic! My only complaint was that the toast wasn't toasted that much and it was soggy from sitting too long. I know they mass produce it when they're busy so I get it. The cost was reasonable to me, it was about $60 for 3 of us without the tip. U have to understand, I'm used to spending a buck, buck-twenty when my husband eats with us. So $60, I'll take it. There was a lot of food and they had some interesting specials. Like the thing my daughter got, she called it "a deep dish Dutch Apple sort of thingy ". It was a huge, thick pancake stuffed with apples, it was really good. We will definitely be going back soon for dinner!

Went here for lunch today for the first time. Service was friendly and attentive. The food was fresh, quite tasty and well plated. The price for a lunch leaves a little to be desired for a regular lunch spot however I will add this to my occasional lunch rotation

We have eaten here two times in the past week. A few things: 1. There is a strange sour smell when you enter the restaurant. I have no idea what is it. Don't worry--it's just there, by the door. 2. The nachos are to die for. They fry their own tortilla chips, and the proportion of ingredients is just right. Yum! 3. On the classier side, the Thai seafood stew is amazing. The seafood is super-fresh and the curry is not too heavy or too sweet. 4. The wine list is pretty good, and there is a good selection of beers on tap. They also offer a beer paddle, with 4 5oz beers, so you can taste a selection. 5. The service was well-paced, and very nice. We'll be back!

We've been here now for dinner & for brunch. Dinner: the portions are VERY generous. I had a half portion of pasta & still had plenty of left-overs. The food was tasty, service was good & it wasn't a very busy night at the restaurant. Still, food was good so we'd go back. We had some fry/nacho combination that was crazy delicious. We'll definitely have that again! Brunch- very tasty but very slow service. The restaurant was packed, but we didn't order anything particularly difficult. I had an Eggs Benedict- they were skimpy with the Hollandaise sauce. I would have asked for a little extra on the side frankly, but the waiter didn't come back for a long time. There was maybe a quarter size dollop of sauce on each egg, but the muffins were wonderful & perfectly cooked as were the eggs. I'll likely skip the Benedict next time & go for something else. The omelets looked great, as did the pancakes that the rest of the table ordered & everyone enjoyed their meals (though I wished for more sauce). Tasty & close by though, we'll go back. Expect to wait a while for your brunch & to have tons of food any other meal.

I love this place. I went here with my family for Mother's Day and we had such a great time. Our waitress, rose, was amazing. So friendly, attentive and what every waiter in the world should strive to be like. The food was delicious and cooked perfectly. I have been coming here for years and I've never been let down. Keep on doing what you're doing!

We have been going to Westerly for the past 3 years and are just now starting to search out some of the local eateries. My wife happened upon this spot after a google search and then read the reviews here so insisted that we give it a try. I am happy to report it was a great choice. Very nice casual restaurant with a nice well stocked bar. Soooooo many beers to choose from if that's what your in to. I started with the fried oysters appetizer and was not disappointed. They came on a bed of greens and were obviously hand battered and fried in clean oil just for me. No prebattered, sitting around waiting for someone to order them here. If you like fried oysters don't hesitate to order these. We both had the burgers. I had a caesar salad in lieu of the fries and my wife had the handcut fries with hers. The burgers were huge and cooked exactly the way we ordered them. The caesar was very good with nice crisp romaine. The fries where very good with a really nice crisp crunch and great flavor. All in all we will be back!

After our less than ideal B&B experience, I was so happy that this place rocked. It had the perfect feel - relaxed brunchy weekend place. Just what we wanted. Fluffy Dutch Apple Pancake, perfectly made eggs benedict, and all in all, a perfect meal. Well, almost perfect. They seemed a bit understaffed. Our waitress was all running around and stuff. That's the only reason they didn't get 5 stars. Maybe someone was sick or something because it'd be really easy for this place to be perfect. Unfortunately, we probably won't be going back... It's a ways out there for people who don't live in Rhode Island.

Located in downtown Westerly, 84 High Street is an amazing setting for a breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, dessert or just drinks! I've been coming here for years and would recommend it to anyone. The lounge has high top tables and bar seating - this is a good setting for girls night or grabbing beers with the guys. Their appetizers are amazing - fried calamari is delicious and crispy and their nachos are out of this world. I wouldn't recommend the brushetta only because their bread they use is way too tough. The bread they bring specifically for the dipping oil is amazing though! They have a fully stocked bar and you can order a bottle of wine if you wish. The bartenders usually have a heavy hand on the martinis as well. Their breakfast has huge portions and is delicious. Their entrees are delicious as well. I've had their burgers, sandwiches, greek salad is amazing, quesadillas, and their pastas are to die for. You can usually order either a half portion (which I usually get unless I want leftovers) or the full dinner portion. Whether visiting their classy-casual place for girls night, family lunch or a date, I always leave full and satisfied.

Nice place! Atmosphere was comfortable and there was no pressure on what to wear. Our food was good, we split the "84" fried calamari appetizer, very good! I then had shrimp with pasta an she had a large salad. Both of which were delicious. They have a large selection of beers both draft and bottle as well. Service was amazing!

yay! im glad to be the first review. well food fans, or event fans, if you are looking at this right now, you should continue to to work with 84 high st. catering and you can be assured of a fabulous occasion. you want some examples? ok, try this on. flash back to 2003, say september. if you were in the area, you know that hurricane isabelle was "coming" i say this cause as you know new englanders, it didnt. that didnt stop those punks at the tent company from pulling out of their contract to set up the wedding tent for me and wifey. so what happens you ask? well 3 day (yes 3 days) before the matrimonial bliss was to occur, Kareen from 84 steps up and not only finds us a new venue (which kicked the vineyards sorry sack) on the water for a beautiful sunset (aweeee) reception. all this with 3 days to re-plan the entire cocktail hour, dinner and espresso bar. so all you brides out there thinking you need a year to plan? ok, well you should, but with 84 in your corner, you will be much better off. well smartypants, what about the food? well i can safely say it was the best wedding food i have ever eaten, the swordfish was grilled perfectly and the fillet was tender and the moment wifey and i shared that day (aweee) la dolce vita

Dessert and Martini's for the girls, I had a beer. Service was a little slow but we came in late and only got dessert, we weren't in a rush so it was fine. Everything was great had the chocolate diabeties causeing dessert, a cheesecake and some other thing. everyone was happy. Like the atmosphere.

I have been to 84 High Street time and time again and it has never failed to disappoint me. The theme of downtown Westerly is jazz and this restaurant has that classic feel. It is dim, great ambiance, and an open kitchen. After you stuff yourself here, across the street is Wilcox Park, where you can enjoy a great after dinner stroll. It is very beautiful with all different types of tree's and old fashioned lamp posts. I was never disappointed with this restaurant and it will always be my all time RI favorite. I am so happy someone else had the sense to review it!

Let me just start this review by saying that I read other reviews about this place before I went and someone wrote about a funky smell when you first walk in. I forgot about that, until I first walked in. There is definitely a warm piss like smell in the bar area. We walked in and were waiting to be seated which took forever, everyone that was working in the front of the house told us they would be right with us, this gave us plenty of time to talk about the pissy smell. We finally got seated and ordered our drinks when they brought me a flat soda and waited forever for our mesclun salad (it was only moderately busy on a wednesday night at 8pm). Things all changed when we received our appetizer, we had the baked mozzarella which is bruschetta with a funky name. This was tremendous, the balsamic reduction that topped it was so tasty that I was beside myself. Then came our meal. I had the Wilcox tortellini which is tortellini with veggies and a garlic oil sauce. It was pretty good i enjoyed it. The service in the beginning was not great but got better as the night went on. The food was above average with the exception of the appetizer which was phenomenal. If I never go back here I wont be upset, but it was decent and not terribly expensive.

A planned beach day turned sour by the weather had us meet our friends here for brunch recently on a Sunday. Our friends got there early and said the bloody mary's were outstanding. The setting is casual and laid back. The tables are a little close together for my taste, but we lucked out with a table in a small window alcove. My husband got the macaroni and cheese omelet and I got the Genovese Chicken sandwich. Our friends got the grilled vegetable focaccia and toasted crab melt sandwiches. The food is really good, nice portions, arrived hot, with very fresh ingredients. You aren't rushed here at all, our server was very friendly and although the service itself appears a little slow, it seems that this is due to time needed for food prep, not any mishaps. I would not suggest dining here if you have to be somewhere following your meal. There is a parking lot next to the building (Westerly is a bit busy) and the bookstore next store is really cute. An enjoyable afternoon was had, even with the rain, would definitely go back there again!

A pleasant local eatery that takes care with prep and presentation. The chili was succulent and loaded w/ meat, beans, cheese and onions. The spinach salad was de-licious. The Bloody Mary was expertly made and delivered w/ a skewer of plump, stuffed green olives. The service is attentive but not overbearing.

We dined at 84 High Street at the recommendation of friends who are fans of this Westerly restaurant. The bar atmosphere was lively and clearly a local social hub with live music that Friday night. The blueberry martini and cherry-tini cocktail (drink special that night) were excellently mixed with good pours. Being new and not sure what to expect, we were slightly disappointed with the casual/dimly lit dining room with drop ceiling. We were promptly seated and on our way, starting with the house salad, a mesclun salad with roasted peppers, candied walnuts, and blue cheese. The walnuts were yummy and cut the edge of the overbearing and bitter balsamic dressing--the acidity of the peppers didn't help this combination--but the housemade focacia with olive oil dipping sauce compensated. I chose the special, a very generous portion of two-olive crusted lamb (think 6 frenched ribs). The lamb was cooked exactly as I ordered--medium well, my fault for not ordering medium--and the accompanying red skinned mash and freshly crisp veggies were the bomb. The salmon with roasted tomato and mozarella salsa stole the show, cooked perfectly with slightly crispy skin. Our server was polite but distracted (we all have off-nights). Alas, we didn't get to try the dessert special, a delicious looking tiramisu I was coverly eyeing at the next table, as our boxed dinner was presented along with the check without our being asked if we wanted coffee or dessert and at that point, why ask? I would sum this experience as follows--okay service, perfectly cooked, if un-remarkable, food with generous portions, okay atmosphere. The open kitchen was interesting but the exhaust must not have been working as the air was redolent with the smell of grease (maybe from the hand-cut fries?). If we were in the neighborhood, I would definitely try this another night in hopes that we just had an off-night experience.

My husband and I have been here several times this summer. Great place to bring guests visiting from out of town before or after a beach day. The atmosphere is casual, the staff are friendly and the food is consistently good. We have tried a variety of signature cocktails here, and none of them disappoint. The Crab Cake Benedict is bangin'! We also love the fried caulifower. Get it with the Sriracha sauce. Never had a bad meal here. Definitely our favorite place in Westerly.

What a classy staff! We came into the restaurant with a party of six prior to the dining room open and they were kind enough to sit us in a closed area. The hostess came over and gave us a great education on the menu and beer. The bartender and server were also around introducing the beer flights for happy hour. We came for lunch and a member of our party got sick and they were incredibly understanding and helpful. We were only able to try to calamari and the crab cake. Both were really delicious. When we had to leave early, they gave us a 20 dollar gift card to come try the restaurant again. Thank you for your hospitality, it did not go unnoticed and we will be back.

We decided to eat downtown so we chose this place over the others. There were four of us for dinner and were immediately seated at a table near the kitchen. Our waitress was pleasant and helpful, answering several questions about the menu. Three of us chose the fish and chips, while the fourth had the 84 burger with a fried egg. All three of us who had the fish were very disappointed by our meal. There was very little fish in the chunks of crunchy batter and the chips were shoestring potatoes that were mostly overdone. It also came with a small cup of New England clam chowder and vinegary tasting Cole slaw. I ordered a house salad with blue cheese dressing which was probably the best part of my meal. The burger was good and big. The only comment was that he couldn't finish it. Two of us had beers from their drink menu while a third had a glass of Riesling. I just had water. We live in the Ocean State so I was hoping for a decent order of fish and chips. Sadly disappointed.

I always sit at the bar but the dining area is always bustling. The food is great the 8-4 happy hour menu(3-6) is a deal. Bartenders are the best. Serve food 'til 9pm. Right across from the Westerly train station. I had one of the best omlettes, it was the special, but short rib, gorgozola & bacon-onion marmalade. Tremendous! The corned beef hash is homemade. For those cb hash connesouirs. The Bolognese is made with ground prime rib, sausage, it is tremendous! I could go on & on. Definitely worth a try!

My favorite restaurant in Westerly by far is 84 on Canal. The food is always top notch & they have a fantastic beer selection. The atmosphere is cute and if you get a window seat, it's perfect for people watching.

Good happy hour menu. Very good buffalo wings and Caesar salad. Extensive beer menu. The only disappointment was the very bland pasta in pink vodka sauce. I have had better sauce out of a jar so I am not sure why no one is tasting the sauce. We stopped in another day for buffalo wings, nachos, and the 84 burger with side caesar salad, all very good. I got all that and a beer for $20 during happy hour. great deal.

My roommate lives in Westerly and had told me about this place before. She mentioned something about their amazing happy hour and suggested that we give it a try. I was the third wheel with her and her boyfriend (typical, but I love it) when we decided to go. The prices seemed a little steep (which most prices do when you're in college), but the happy hour deals were great. One of the best happy hour spots in town I'd say for sure. They have cheap wine, cheap appetizers, and cheap entrees. Everything was so good and not to mention the service. The two waiters from the bar we had were phenomenal. Even some of the other staff that brought our food from the kitchen were great. Needless to say, I'll definitely be back for more happy hours!

The food was good, not great. Prices matched the quality, I really liked the bar atmosphere and their decor was unique. However, the wait was long and they had our waitress on too many tables because she was not attentive to us whatsoever. I felt irrelevant/unimportant compared to the other tables she was tending to. When we ordered our meals she was not flexible on the pasta we could choose or any changes we asked to make to the menu items, her response being simply, "No, we can't do that." Also, the fact that she only came over to our table twice in total the whole entire time we were there was aggravating. She never asked if we needed anything else, never asked how our dinners were, and did not fail to walk by our table many times without stopping. At one point I had to yell to get her attention for more water and bread and I felt like I was my own server. Unimpressed with Alexis and her in-genuine smile but maybe if I had a different waitress I would have had a better experience. The bartender and hostess were very helpful. Will be going back for the bar, won't be going back for dinner...

Tried this place again they moved 2 years ago to a new location which is much bigger. The result was similar. We went on a Tuesday where they have a $30 deal. 1 app or dessert and a meal each. The service was good but the food was average. The mixed green salad with cranraisins was ok could of had more dressing. The chicken and chokes had little flavor and the halibut was average. Since it was $30 it was good for the price.

Nice size, have a separate bar area and dining area. Lots of good options for dinner, had a window by the street as it wasn't too busy being mid-week. I think we had an appetizer and then the main courses, both were nice.

Tried this place for the first time last night, was very pleasantly surprised. The wait staff was extremely friendly, the food was really good and there was such a variety to choose from. I also liked that they had a menu that everything on it was $4 OR $8, if you didn't want to have a big meal. I highly recommend the mozzarella/tomato appetizer and the grilled shrimp was very good.... a little spicy! Really nice place... call ahead and make a reservation.

Overall an enjoyable meal. Service was good, but did take a little while for our entrees to come out. Good sized kids portions and a very good beer menu. Had the fried clams that were the appetizer special. Never really my favorite app, but was out voted at the table. Seemed to be more fried than clam, and for 15 bucks not the best value. May return before our week's vacation is over.

As much as I love my hometown of Westerly, RI... I am highly disappointing by the lack of Happy Hour options. Fortunately, we have 84! (formally called 84 high st) This is absolutely the best spot for happy hour deals in downtown. They have a wonderful menu for the post work crowd - including 1/2 price glasses of Jonathan Edwards Stone Table Red... Yum! The chalkboard featuring craft beers is always welcome. My favorite part about 84 is the staff in the bar area. They are always friendly and more importantly fun to talk to. I've only sat in the dining room once or twice. I've never been disappointed with the meal but I always stick to the specials or the bacon wrapped dates. I do know that they charge for bread so if you don't want it don't let them put it on your table!

I wasn't sure what to expect going into this one. But I have to say I was impressed. I give a full five stars for both our waitress, Rose, and also the owner, who we ended up talking to later. I give 3.5/4 to the food. Calamari, perfectly crusted and cooked, could not have been better, but the red sauce it was served with had no flavor at all.... My hanger steak was absolutely terrific, perfect cook and a very nice sauce. The sides were equally good... with brussels not being overcooked and being nicely seasoned. The mashed potatoes were... mashed potatoes. My dining companions appeared to love their entrees as well, though what I sampled wasn't anything special. The one truly lacking aspect of our meal were (of all things) the deviled eggs.... and in chatting later with the owner I discovered it was an on-going problem they intended to take off the menu. If they'd either make that right, or remove it, it would definitely help their cause. If you can't make deviled eggs that even come close to stop and shop, just let it go. That minor aspect aside, the service was top notch, wine and food were both fairly solid, I fully intend to be back.

We stopped in for happy hour. Happens every day from 3-6 and includes a $4 and $8 food menu plus some discounts on draft beer ($4) and house wine/Jonathan Edwards wine ($4). Staff was courteous and service was good. Lots of beers on tap! Definitely a great place to stop and enjoy a drink! Dinner menu looks extensive and worth trying! We ordered some apps (cajan shrimp $4 and crab stuffed mushrooms $4) and got some (free) fresh focaccia bread to go with it. Only put 4 stars because I didn't go for the full dinner so I'll have to come back. From what I see - this is a great place!

  • Kris W.

They haven't really tweaked the menu much at all. I usually get the bake stuffed shrimp, pastas or a burger. Everything I've had has been good. You always get decent sized portions & fresh ingredients at 84. Plus they still have an awesome beer selection. I always find something good/new when I'm there. I must admit that I prefer the old location mostly because of the parking situation. Finding a spot on the street isn't always that easy, but when you do 84 is still the best restaurant in Westerly.

We visited 84 Tavern on a Saturday night in early May 2015. Had a bit of difficulty in finding parking, but eventually found a spot on a side street. We had reservations, and were seated after a brief wait. They came out with water immediately, and ask if we wanted to order drinks from the bar menu. A drink special was already sold out, so we order Sangria and beer. After that, at least a 10 minute wait! On the night we visited, the restaurant seemed understaffed, or at least the staff wasn't making rounds in the seating area of the restaurant. We finally placed our order (crab cakes, sliced steak sandwich, and a burger). Crab cakes were underwhelming - well fried with a crunchy exterior coating, but more or less just crab flavored stuffing on the inside. The steak sandwich came out with some odd butter-funk sauce slathered on the top, but was otherwise just ok. Burger was fair; generous size patty, but very greasy. We knew we were in a little trouble early on given the long bar delay, and the bread they brought in in the meantime confirmed our suspicions that this wasn't going to be a great experience. They had bottles of oil, with red pepper flakes on the bottom of the bottle to use with the bread. I remarked to my wife "that doesn't look like olive oil", but she assured me that it had to be. When she tried some on her bread, the look on her face told me that it would be a butter on stale bread evening :) Overall, I'd give this a Yelp "meh" vote. Given the location, it would seem that 84 has potential, but based on what we experienced, the restaurant needs better oversight and management to get things clicking. I would start with working on service and getting the bar going 100% (this is where restaurants make their money - taking drink orders and filling them in a timely fashion). If you read the other reviews, the food sometimes comes with good ratings from other reviewers - I'll be charitable here, and consider that maybe we hit on an off night, or chose exactly the three worst options. Other than that, I find no real compelling reason to go back and find out if this restaurant deserves another chance. Given the parking, and "meh" service experience, it just doesn't seem to be worth the effort.

Love it!. Thank you to Brian the bartender for your tips! Chef/owner makes everything from scratch. Our first visit and we will be back. Nice bar area (separate dining room) We sat at the bar and had the most delicious/velvety carrot soup! we walked next door to the Gallery and spent some time there, a bonus on a Sunday afternoon, they exhibit local artists.

Lively place, with a happy and friendly staff. I sadly found that the food and execution were 2nd rate. Chopped Salad with Ditalini was a fine start. Its kind of a local dish. With a strong Italian heritage, Westerly has a few local food specialties, and this is one of them. Pasta mixed in with finely chopped vegetables, chopped Romaine, tomatoes, bacon, cucumbers, and finished with Gorgonzola and a Balsamic vinaigrette. The dressing was a let down, milky and thick , and over sweet as though sugar was added to a lesser Balsamic. It totally missed the acid component. The pasta special highlighted seared sea scallops. They were perfectly cooked, fresh, soft and buttery. And lucky for me, they were placed on top of a bed of soft fettuccini. I say lucky, because the pasta was sauced/drowned with a bucket of thick Pesto cream. There were quartered artichokes in the dish entirely hidden in the soupy presentation. A miss, but not a total loss, the scallops were great. The New York Strip on the other hand was poorly done top to tail. A mediocre cut, though cooked properly, proved its impossible to cook the flavor back in. The Chimichurri dressing hit none of the bright, fresh herbaceous flavors the sauce is known for. A plate full of frozen vegetables did nothing to help the cause. Add to this the worst wine list I can recall, I can't say that I will consider having another dinner here. They do have a large bar, inventive and interesting cocktail list, and a truly great beer selection, featuring some of the best brews the world over. So a drink or two is not out of the question, but for food, I'm looking elsewhere.

Took a break from our drive home yesterday to stop in for some much needed food and drink. Glad we trusted the Yelp reviews and traded traffic for Sunday happy hour specials. Bar and restaurant were simple and nicely decorated and staff was nice although a little overwhelmed with guests. We started with the bacon wrapped dates (yum!), poutine (pretty good), wings (excellent) and deviled eggs (not the best I've had, but great for the price). Hubby and I both ordered the 84 burger for dinner and they were cooked perfectly. We'll definitely come back if we're in the area - especially for happy hour.

So, I wanted to have the perfect date night and she suggested 84. Made reservations on OT, ordered flowers and worked with the staff to coordinate. They went out of their way to ensure we had a quite table (even though we were 20 minutes late). Being a good Yelper, I had the menu memorized before getting there. I know it's tavern fare but nothing jumped out at me. That night, they had a coffee rubbed rib eye that was served with sweet potatos. The steak was done perfectly and the rub had a bit of a welcome bite to it. The sweet potatoes on the side were lovely. My only wish is that there were something else on the menu that was as inspiring as this dish.

We ate here for my husband's birthday and would definitely recommend it. We arrived early because we were driving through Rhode Island on the way back from a weekend away and even at 5:00, the bar was full and seemed like people were having a great time. The chicken/eggplant stack was amazing! We also got the nachos, which were delicious (but heavy on the jalapeños so be careful if you don't like them). Portions were huge. We easily could have shared an appetizer and one meal. We will definitely try to come back when we are in the area!

In their old location, 84 High Street was one of our local go-to restaurants; since relocating, we have been underwhelmed. The new atmosphere is dull, plain, and generally unappealing. It is not BAD, but not good either. Drinks are good. The food is just not the same as it was. The selection is, to me, rather fish-heavy. The cuts of beef have always been subpar; tonight's prime rib was like eating a shoe! I left half of it on the plate! Tonight, New Year's Eve, special menu. It was like they took off all the good stuff and added a bunch of unappealing specials. But the kicker: by 8PM they were OUT of the rib eye special... EIGHT O'CLOCK! Finally, they offered only FOUR desserts on new Year's Eve...four, that's it. I was looking forward to dessert, but there was nothing interesting about their offerings. Brunch is good. I hope 84 gets back on track, otherwise they will not survive, especially in this restaurant-heavy town.

We have a place in Stonington and have been to all of the restaurants in Stonington and Mystic. We wanted to try something new! After reviewing Yelp we decided to make a reservations here! It was a great experience. I went with my family, but I felt that the crowd was a mixed age group. Our appetizers took a little longer then expected but the manager came over and apologized for the inconvenience. We ended up getting the appetizers on the house! All of our meals were fantastic. My sister graduated from culinary school, so for her to say that.. that was a big deal. I loved the fact that there was a variety to choose from and it was a relaxed environment. We also ordered dessert. The peanut butter pie and the ice cream cookie. So good! We will be returning once we are back in town.

This is a great choice for dining in downtown Westerly. I had my signature dirty martini and then their spicy seafood stew. Both were outstanding. The stew had a generous portion of seafood. The service was prompt and friendly. This makes a great choice for either a special dinner, or go into the bar for a night at the brew pub. They've recently moved around the corner and the sign in the old place wasn't too obvious so we initially thought from the parking lot they had closed. After dinner, the location is perfect for a stroll through the park and then down the main street.

Let me start by saying I have not actually eaten a full meal here. I have stopped in twice in the past 6 months and have been lucky enough to snag a seat at the bar both times. Bartender was super nice, attentive without hovering. Decent selection of house wines available by the glass. I had grilled Cajun shrimp with a cucumber something sauce. Shrimp were perfect-flavorful and perfectly cooked. I will definitely go back one of these days for dinner

Great small pub. Waitress was extremely knowledgable and likable. Our table of 4 had the pork medallions with chipotle (great), king cut prime rib (excellent & huge), pasta salad (good) and spinach salad with scallops (good). Recommend even if you need to wait.

We decided to dine here last night after realizing our original restaurant week choice had an hour wait for our party of 6. (Yes, I underestimated the number of diners Westerly Restaurant Week would draw, however we had dined here once before and it was on our short list, so it was a no-brainer backup plan.) Upon arriving we were informed that there was about a half hour wait. We spotted a table in the bar area and asked if it would be ok to sit and chat over drinks while we waited. The hostess said of course, offered to have it wiped down and brought over the additional chairs we needed in order to sit comfortably. Once our table was ready our waitress came over right away to ask if we had any questions and to take drink (refill) orders. For dinner I opted to order off the restaurant week menu and chose the cafe salad with greek lemon dressing, pumpkin ravioli and peanut butter pie for dessert. (I originally ordered a standard balsamic, but after our waitress informed us that all salad dressings are made in-house I opted for the greek lemon. It was delicious!) The ravioli was served with an oil based sauce, brussel sprout leaves and fresh, thinly sliced pecorino cheese. I all but licked my plate. As the entree offerings on the restaurant week menu are not taken from their everyday menu (like some restaurants), I hope that the pumpkin ravioli is a fall special so everyone has a chance to enjoy it. The peanut butter pie was my 2nd choice of dessert, but I was not disappointed. It was served with a chocolate sauce and whip cream and in a relatively large portion for restaurant week. (My first choice was an ice cream cookie sandwich, however the restaurant had only enough ingredients to make one full size dessert or two restaurant week portions. As my boyfriend's mother was ordering a full size to share my mother and I offered to change our selections.) Other salad dressings enjoyed by the table were a honey mustard and creamy cucumber, both of which were loved. The men all opted for the steak tips after the restaurant had run out of the pork chop, but all enjoyed their meals. The pork osso bucco from the restaurant week menu was also very flavorful (I stole a bite of my mom's), while the half-serving of bolognese was still enough to feed two people and also received compliments. All-in-all the service was great and the atmosphere was perfect for conversing and getting to know one another (which was the intention).

This is my favorite restaurant. We go almost every week. I love their tavern turkey burger. We usually eat in the bar but sometimes eat in the dining room. The staff is always fast, friendly and attentive. (We love Chris in the bar.) They also have a great rotating selection of beer on draft, phenomenal specials and great atmosphere. This as an all around great place.
