I recently went to The Accomac Inn with my Fiance'. It was our first time. It overlooks the water. Didn't look as pretty because it was raining out. We wanted to try it out since we had a Restaurant.com coupon. We go out to eat a lot so this is a great way to find new places. We got lost and got there a half hour late for our reservation. Staff was very apologetic when we go there. The ambiance was so romantic. There were no lights in the dining area. Only candles. Our waitress Megan was extremely nice and knowledgeable of the menu items. I had a wonderful salad to start that had pears and apples with a vinegar dressing. For my entree I ordered the duck which was delicious!!! My fiance' ordered the cheese and sausauge appetizer. Forgot what he had for dinner, but he was happy with it. The chef came around and introduced himself to each and every table. The waitress brought us out a few truffles for my birthday. We enjoyed it so much, we will be going back for Valentines day weekend. Can't wait!!!

I agree with Evan T. We were very disappointed with the Saturday lunch that we had here recently. The service was pleasant but very slow considering that there were only 3 groups on the porch and a large group in the dining room. My husband ordered the pit flank steak sandwich and he said it was the worst thing he's eaten in years. It had 2 very small pieces of meat and was mostly bread...no flavor. Another friend ordered scallops and shrimp which consisted of 3 scallops and 1 shrimp on a small portion of salad. My Accomac hamburger was 2 small patties stacked on top of each other with cheese and a llarge bun. It could not be eaten as a sandwich; I had to separate it onto 2 sections and eat it with a fork. It was presented on a wooden board with 5 potato wedge type fries, no other accompaniments. It was edible but overdone because of the ground combination of bacon and beef. The rhubarb tart was not a tart at all, very tasteless. The mocha mousse had no mocha flavor and was supposed to come with coffee ice cream but was presented with chocolate ice cream instead. So overpriced for what you get and for a very uninspired menu offering. We won't go back.

The Accomac is actually French-American gourmet, with an emphasis on fresh ingredients and light sauces. Recipes are a mix of traditional and contemporary styles. Incredible dining experience; they have had recipes published in many of the leading food magazines, including "Gourmet", "Bon Appetit", and "Fine Dining". Expensive, but if you're in search of a unique and amazing dining experience you will truly enjoy yourself.

I finally visited The Accomac Inn after living in York for 20 years. I have always heard good things about it, so I was anxious to go. I bought a gift certificate from restaurant.com (I don't know if this makes me cheap or smart), which finally got me to go. The location is amazing as it sits right on The river giving you a beautiful view while eating dinner. The ambiance inside was just as nice, giving you that 'at home feeling'. I was impressed with the menu. It is seemingly sophisticated, varietal and contains many different culinary techniques. I had the seared pork chop and pork belly. I was disappointed the chop was a little dry, but the belly was great. I'm not a huge fan of sauerkraut, but theirs was amazing. My fiancé ordered the halibut and really enjoyed it. We didn't have room for dessert, but the servers flam bee bananas foster table-side, which looked amazing. Overall, I enjoyed the dining experience. The food was very good for the most part, but I thought it was a little too expensive. I rated The Accomac Inn four stars because I would still go back to try another dish and enjoy the beautiful view again.

No question the wait staff is superb... attentive but not hovering. My dining companion's and my cocktails arrived quickly and were just as ordered. I ordered a scallop appetizer which was fresh, tasty and nicely presented. My companion, the shrimp, which he enjoyed. For entree, I had the salmon, It was very crispy on the outside and warm and flaky on the inside. The arugula and other accompaniments were delightful and appropriate. My dining companion had the flambéed beef done table side. (Flambéed entrees and desserts are a signature of the Accomac.) We both had dessert and they were fine. My only reason for giving 4 vs. 5 stars is that the Accomac aspires to be something it just is not...yet.

Great gem along the Susquehanna river. Food is well prepared from ingredients acquired locally. I first dined here 35 years ago, and the restaurant had its ups and downs. It is definitely on an "up". It's more an American eclectic menu, with French touches. I had cornsih hens, and wife had hake fish. Food is well presented, and for central PA, an inventive approach. Duck and Rack of Lamb are also worth trying. Wine list is short but represents decent values and selection. Bananas Foster is a must try desert, flambaued at your table. Only item that keeps from 5 starts is waitstaff. While attentive and trying hard, most are not particularly well trained nor experienced to handle the menu nuances nor the winelist. Ask for a table in front of the fireplace - by far the best few tables in the house. Dining on porch is great in summer.

The food & service was superior. However, very chilly inside-dress warmly in cold weather. Parking lot not paved-can get muddy.

We had reservations so there was no problem getting a seat. Service was great, food very good but like many pricey restaurants, stingy portion sizes. Especially the dessert. I don't get dessert at pricey restaurants but the description in the menu of the shortcake with homemade sherbet/ice cream and the price $10, I thought surely there would be an average portion size. No, it was the teeniest piece of shortcake and tiniest scoop of ice cream I'd ever seen, barely enough to taste. The porch seating was nice, the view over the river was great but the porch floor is sloped so the tables are tilted enough that I worried the entire meal that my drink was going to topple over. The most disappointing thing was realizing the porch was the entrance and there was constant foot traffic past our table our entire meal. Not very relaxing. We were glad that we went, to see the beautiful building and try the food but doubt there will be a second visit.

I stopped here on a Sunday afternoon with about 20 friend on a Civil War outing. I had the lamb burger with cucumber soup. Wonderful with the burger nicely spiced. I think everyone enjoyed it in my group. Great location - I really never expected the food to be that good. I thought the prices were a little high - but food lived up to it. The downside was clearly the service. We had reservations for 20 so they knew we were coming and there were probably only 15 other people in the restaurant. The one waitress got a little help but not enough. The manager was nice, but could have helped with the checks. All told our lunch took over 2 hours. I would take my wife there - but lower my expectations on service.

There aren't too many "top tier" restaurants in the Lancaster/York area, but Accomac Inn is on the short list! Great setting along the river, an historic building (eye candy for this realtor) and an exquisite menu. This is the quintessential "special occasion" spot...for us it was our anniversary. Thanks!

Wonderfully fresh food that's locally sourced. The chef allows the ingredients to shine and doesn't over-sauce. We've had some really spectacular meals there lately. All the dishes we had have been topnotch. There are only a few reasons I wouldn't give it 5 stars. During the weeknights it seems like there's only one person serving which can make things a little slow. For the price point I want impeccable service. Also, the chef has a slight heavy hand with the salt. Incidentally, the reviewer below that gave one star for the birthday celebration on 1/19? I was there the night they were dining and I'd take the review with a grain of salt. They were very rude to the server, two of people in their party were outside smoking more then they were at the table and we couldn't help overhearing their moronic conversations about the unrealistic expectations they had. Wouldn't put too much stock in what they say.

New menu featuring seasonal local food. It was a GREAT dining experience and a wonderful showcase of fresh ingredients. I highly recommend it.

Good service. Some good vegeterian options. Good wine list. Nice views of Susquehanna. Nice ambience inside. Appreciate the focus on local products.

I was hear 20 years ago and remember a wonderful evening in front of the fireplace on a cold rainy day. Finally checked it out and it was great. Appetizers were very good (tomato tart, scallops). We all had the veal tenderloin wrapped in prosciutto. Excellent! Wine list is modest but we found a pretty good Oregon Pinot (red hill?). Service was very good. Setting is great, we ate on the screened in porch overlooking the river. I will be going back!

I am shocked by the good reviews for the Accomac. I took my mother there for her birthday and although my daughter made a good choice for her meal, my mother and I were sorely disappointed by our food. I have eaten at top-rated restaurants from Los Angeles to New York City, and trust me, the food at the Accomac was terribly lacking in flavor and creativity, and having the wait staff peering at us from behind the kitchen door was downright creepy. No way would I EVER go back. The locals might think that paying higher prices constitutes culinary excellence, but I'm telling you it's one big facade.

Father's Day 2011: In the warm weather seasons the porch overlooking the river creates an excellent ambience (the only downside being that quite a few locally produced Harleys loudly cruise up and down the road between the Inn and the river ). 45 minutes from Harrisburg proper; 35 minutes from the West Shore; well worth the trip. Beverages first. I'm usually not a cocktail drinker but I had to try the Kyoto Sour: sake, grapefruit, agave nectar, jalepeno slices and sour mix. Excellent; I will attempt to replicate it at home. But I'm more interested in the wine list. Their list is Wine Spectator approved and has, as noted, PA wines plus organic/sustainable wines. It is not huge and there are no 1/2 bottles but the selection is excellent and there are nice wines by the glass. There are not overpriced either. I had a Chateau de la Vieille Tour Bordeaux Blanc with the first course for $10, and there was a nice Acrobat Pinos Gris and a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc that I didn't note down. The big boy with the lamb was a 2005 Chateau Trimoulet St. Emilion Grand Crus which was fairly priced at $72. It had quite a bit of tanin initially, which made me appreciate the fact that it was opened early but that went away quickly. Very nice with an initial strong raspberry note. Service was excellent (thanks Cari) and the staff had obviously been trained in the nuances beyond what one has come to expect these days. Handling of wine service, plate clearing, etc, was first rate. But of course the food is the key. First course fore two of us was an excellent pea and tarragon soup. (No one will ever top Thomas Keller's pea soup I had at the French Laundry in Napa) The beet carpaccio was also excellent. We all had the lamb with rosemary jus, so I can't comment on a variety of entrees. Breads were great. Amuse bouche of cold cantelope soup likewise. Deserts of banana crepes and a mint chocolate tort were excellent. All of the above tallied in @ $265 plus tip for three but well worth it. Additional notes: locavore oriented, including PA wines.

Fantastic experience and food quality. Fine dining, but not over the top formality. It's nice to have high end service once in a while when you go out. The food quality is 4-5 star with an occassional 'miss'. But for the most part, the meals I've eaten here have been superb. I'm a fan and highly recommend this for a special occassion. DO NOT EXPECT to pay less than $100 for two people eating an entre with a glass of wine. But its worth it.
