As a vegan living in York county, I was very excited to learn about Nittany pizza. While my early experiences with Nittany were great, both service and food quality, I have more recently been disappointed in both. I have written a review directly to the shop, hoping that I would receive a response and better service in the future, but have received no response. Some of the issues I've had: 1. Ordered a vegan BTO. When I got home, which is 45 minutes away, I realized there was a sauce on my sub that contained mayo. I called the shop, and was first told that it was the Bangin spread, which comes on the sub. When he confirmed that it was not supposed to be on the sub, he said, it's just Bangin spread, it doesn't have any mayo in it. I asked what it contained, and he said an aioli sauce. I told him that aioli sauce usually contained mayo. He asked and confirmed that it did have mayo, but if I hadn't questioned him, I would have assumed it was okay to eat. They did give me a credit for a free sub the next time I ordered. 2. I ordered the Senior BTO, which has BBQ sauce on it. I had ordered this many times before, but this time it had so little sauce that I could hardly taste it. The next time I ordered, I asked for extra sauce on the side. When I got to the car, I looked and realized I had no extra sauce. I went back in to ask for some, and the manager (or owner, I'm unsure) gave me a prepackaged container of BBQ sauce, which was different then what was on the sub. I was charged extra for the sauce. 3. For at least 10 orders I always asked for different toppings on my BTO; spinach instead of lettuce, and add mushrooms and/or onions. Several orders ago, I ordered as usual, and was charged extra for those toppings without being told when I ordered. 4. I ordered pizza with daiya cheese, asking for 1/2 the amount of cheese (the full amount is too much). I asked and was told that I could order that for only $2 extra instead of $4 (half the price for half the amount). After I paid, I realized they gave me a discount, but it wasn't the full $2 per pizza as I was told. 5. I've ordered two large pizzas several times, and was never told about the $19.99 for two large pizzas with one topping deal. I've always paid full price. 6. The last time I ordered a vegan BTO, it didn't taste quite the same, and I had stomach cramps and didn't feel well the rest of the evening. Once again, it had very little BBQ sauce. This is when I sent the feedback to Nittany, outlining all the above issues, with no response. 7. My nephews are staying with us, and wanted pizza, so with no other options, I ordered from Nittany. I ordered the $19.99 special (now that I know about it), with daiya cheese. Once again, I asked for half the amount of cheese, but this time I was told there was no way they could change the charge for that in the computer, so I would have to pay the additional $4 per pizza, even though I was getting half the cheese. I ordered tofurkey pepperoni on one of the pizzas as my topping. When I calculated the cost, I realized it was about $4 more then it should have been. When I called back to inquire as to why, I was told that the tofurkey pepperoni was an additional $4 charge. It did not list that on the menu, and I was not told about the charge when I ordered. They did remove the pepperoni from my order, but were unwilling to put the second topping on the other pizza, as they said it was already half way through the oven. 8. We just ate the pizza we ordered today, and for the second time, it was slightly under-cooked. The dough was very soft and hardly browned at all. As much as I was excited about having vegan pizza shop items close to work and home, and I am now even more disappointed due to the service and quality I have recently received. I feel I have given them many chances, but each subsequent time has been more disappointing or unacceptable.

Great vegan fast food type options can be found here. They even make vegan strombolis that are delicious. Sometimes the vegan foods come out undercooked though ..very undercooked which is why 4 stars rather than 5.

A friendly pizza joint that is conveniently located (not far off I83 and near the movie theater). I've enjoyed the vegan options- more than you'll find at any other pizza place in the region- and they are good about customizing orders. Big portions and the food is delicious. Great place for kids, plus a fun Penn State theme!

Pizza pizza pizza if you please! Who doesn't love pizza? Even us with gluten and dairy allergies! Thankfully Nittany recognized the need in York for a vegan and gluten friendly pizza option and offers it on their menu... Along with vegan sandwiches (not gluten free). It's not the best gf pizza dough, doesn't get crispy underneath, but that being said, I go there a lot for my pizza fix!

This was our second visit to Nittany Pizza. Both times we've had great service and great pizza. The prices are reasonable and comparable to other pizzerias (not chains). We will certainly be back for more!

I used to here! Best pizza joint in Spring Gardens! Penn State definitely lives here.

Got the pan pizza with vegan pepperoni and mushrooms. Delicious. Order was out quickly and could tell that ingredients were good quality. Friendly staff. My husband and I will go back.

Pretty good pizza. Was a little under cooked to my liking but delicious none the less. Good service and you can build your own six pack here for 10 bucks.

My wife and I stopped in here because we wanted to get something to eat before a movie we were about to catch. (Snow White and The Huntsman). We thought that it looked like a normal kind of pizza/sub shop in that you would order something and it would be out in about 5-10 minutes. We arrived here around 6:30 hoping that would give us enough time to eat something and hit the 7:15 showing. I was wrong. All said and done, we had to catch the 8:00 showing. Like other reviews about this place, this place is slow. We ordered some wings, a salad, some chicken tenders, fries and onion rings. That took 35-40 minutes and when the food came out the fries were cold, the onion rings were only warm, the chicken tenders were not tender but dry and the wings didn't come with much sauce over them. The salad was pre packaged. The person taking the order was nice and did a good job taking the order. I did leave them a three dollar tip. I know it is not the person who takes the orders fault for the food being so slow but you would think that they would have kept and eye out for the order. Perhaps I am wrong in thinking that. The place sells beers. It's a limited selection but for what this place is it isn't a bad selection at all. Maybe that is why I gave this place two stars and I wasn't even drinking. Over all, I think this place could be better if they would just be more timely with their orders. The food is ok, nothing spectacular but it's what I would expect from a pizza/sub shop. Perhaps this was just an off day for them but from what I have read in some of the reviews they are pretty consistent in the down falls I have mentioned. I will try this place again if someone else buys for me. As it is right now, I wasn't too happy spending $31. Thanks for reading my review. This review is based on my personal point of view.

I tried this place on two separate occasions shortly after they opened and both experiences were far from pleasant. The first experience we had was a pick up order we had called in, only to find that after getting there to pick up our order a half hour later (toasted subs require at least 20 minutes to bake) that our food was never put in. My husband ended up waiting an additional half hour for them to make our food, all with no apologies or acknowledgment of their mistake. I was pleased with the quality of our subs though, they were very tasty. Our second trip was with some friends and we had decided to eat in. There were only a handful of people in the shop so I assumed the wait wouldn't be too bad. After we all ordered and paid, we proceeded to wait at our table for 25 minutes until we started seeing people who had arrived after us start getting their food. AGAIN, they never put our order in. At this time the owner was up front and seemed very annoyed at us for demanding our money back since at this point we were starving and refused to wait any longer. It seemed to be an ordeal just to get refunded and again there was no apology or acknowledgment. If it wasn't for their food, this would have been one star. I have no desire to go here again but I do hope that their service and drive for customer satisfaction has improved over time.

Nittany Pizza is a casual pizza joint off I-83 in York. We discovered it when looking for places between Hershey/Harrisburg and our home in Washington, DC (and we went to Hershey for our hockey fix during the NHL lockout). The road signs indicate that it's not far from the Penn State York campus, which may explain the vegan options there. It's nice to find a place that offers Daiya, a vegan cheese product, for its pizzas. It's even nicer when a place offers vegan pepperoni, which Nittany Pizza does. You can also get the typical pizza toppings that just about every other place offers. The service is friendly--you go to the counter and order your food, then sit and wait for the server to bring it to you. The pizzas are pretty good--nothing spectacular, but tasty and fresh. It's certainly worth a stop if you're traveling between DC or Maryland and Hershey/Harrisburg. One thing I haven't tried yet but might like to is the sandwiches. They have vegetarian and vegan sandwiches as well.

We were in York for a vacation weekend and were stoked to find a place that had vegan pizza and sandwich offerings. We stopped in for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. We had a meat eating friend in tow with us, but he just ended up eating our vegan choices since we wanted to try a pizza and a sandwich. The sandwich was okay. The bread tasted fresh. Between the vegan cheese and some other toppings we had chosen, it quickly became a drippy and messy affair. I miss the "if it isn't all over the place, it doesn't belong in your face" days of eating cheesesteaks, so I didn't mind it. But if you are not such a brave diner, you might find it unwieldy. The pizza was not so fabulous. It had lots of potential: crust tasted fresh, the veggie toppings we ordered didn't seem like they came from a can, and the vegan cheese was there. The issue was it was undercooked: when it came to our table, it was not hot and there were spots on the pie where the cheese hadn't melted. We were too hungry to fuss about having it cooked longer. We still ate the thing (we were taking a detour to Hershey--cold pizza makes a good car trip snack) but it could have been much better. As previous reviewers have mentioned, the service was not fast. The employees were friendly and knowledgeable. I don't have a problem waiting a little longer for food that is actually being made by someone, but if you're in a hurry, I wouldn't recommend it. The carnivore in our group did get the tiny soda cup also previously mentioned in reviews--you are welcome to refills if you are eating in. I believe there was also beer available for purchase, but since it was a bit early for drinking, we didn't order any. A few tweaks could turn this place from okay to good--we'll see if it is around the next time we're in the area. I'd give it another shot.

This place has become my family's new favorite pizza and sub take out place. Their sandwiches are great with their house made cole slaw and sauce.! Friendly workers! I felt compelled to write this review because it's often practically empty, which confuses me since the food is great! P.S. if your a penn state grad or current student, tell them when you order and you'll get a 10% discount off your entire order ;)

Perhaps it is romantic to sing the praises of a pizza joint but Nittany Pizza is so much more. For me it will always be the place that I met my future wife. I don't live in the area and just arrived at the place almost by accident just off the highway on my way to Harrisburg. I pulled into the parking lot just to find out how I got so lost when I met this lady in the parking lot who said she was on her way home from work. I asked her if there were any good places to eat that were close by and she said "Well Nittany Pizza has good pizza." So I yelled back, as I am known to do, "Good enough to have diner with me?" and she said "Yes it is that good." So off we went. To be perfectly honest I was far more interested in her than the pizza, but man they make a great pie over there. The cheese is both plentiful and delicious like pizza used to be. The toppings were great and everywhere on the slice. I asked our wonderful waiter twice if this were extra cheese and double toppings and both times he just laughed. The crust also just seemed perfect with just the right amount of buttery goodness. There will be no left over crusts in a sad box at the end of the night I can assure you. Finally the place just has a great vibe to it. I don't know if this has ever happened to you but I hate eating at a place where everyone is just angry and wants to leave. I had plenty of that growing up at home with a drunk instead of a dad. This place has happy people serving great food. I will go back there when I am back East again. Maybe on the honeymoon if I can convince her to move to California.

Anyone who knows anything about me, knows that I am not a huge pizza fan. When it comes to a new place, though, I have to give it a shot. They have so much more than pizza, I found out as I glanced onto there menu, inside the restaurant. I was immediately greeted and placed my order. I decided that I would also purchase wings, as the "tsunami buffalo" seemed like something I might like. The inside of the restaurant was not completely finished, but that didn't matter at all. We ordered carry out, so we quickly took it home. I thought this pizza was great. The crust was perfect. I especially loved the fact that the meats and veggies were a nice size. The wings were meaty, plump and moist. They had a great flavor, (although I expected it to be hot), and the wings were nicely coated in wing sauce. A great first experience. You better believe I'll be back!

The food was good, but the service was very, very slow. We almost missed our movie waiting for our order to come out.

The best pizza in york that I've had so far. It's the ingredients that make this place really good. The ingredients are super fresh compared to other places. As the others have said, I docked a star because it seems the food takes a while to come out.

First time there with my daughter trying to figure out what sandwiches we wanted. They all have strange names so you have to stand there and read the ingredients of each one until you find one you may like. Mine came missing the bacon it was supposed to have. The special sauce isn't that great and it made the bottom of my sandwich wet and soggy and dripped all over everything. I went through several napkins wiping my hands. The french fries were just so so but many were about an inch long which makes them hard to hold and dip into cheese sauce. The soda cups are pretty small but maybe you can refill them? The television was the smallest flat screen I have ever seen. I doubt we will be back to this place if that is all the better they can do.
