My sister and I noticed this shop while driving to Lancaster, PA and after reading some online reviews, decided to stop on the drive back home. We arrived at Maple Doughnuts around 7:15 pm. A lot of the doughnut display was empty that time of night, so there wasn't a great selection. We had been looking forward to getting some maple bars, but to our surprise, what we had thought were maple bars were peanut butter doughnuts. Yech! Apparently they have NO maple doughnuts at Maple Doughnuts, so we got a chocolate bar, a twist (they call them bow ties) and a glazed doughnut. I can't believe some of the rave reviews for their doughnuts; they are not good. Besides being stale, the glazed doughnut and the bow tie were far too sweet; they reminded me of Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, which I find disgusting. The glaze was also all crusty on the bottom, probably because they had obviously been sitting out for hours. The chocolate bar would have been okay if it hadn't been so stale. The service was fine and the doughnuts were reasonably priced. Too bad they just didn't taste very good. I don't recommend these doughnuts.

If you're in the York area there is no better place to get your donut fix. Dunkin Donuts can't hold a candle to taste or charm of Maple Donuts. The help here usually consists of one or two grumpy old ladies. But when they're serving up some of the best donuts you've ever tasted, how can you complain? Sometimes the donuts will be glazed first, and then they will add the icing over top of the glaze... amazing. Grab a cup of coffee, grab a donut, dip the donut in the coffee if that's your thing... sit back and let the Maple Donuts experience change the way you look at life. Highly recommended.

This is now the donut shop by which I will measure all others. Seriously. They had every normal variety of donuts, but in multiple flavor/color combinations. For example: You like sprinkles? Rainbow on white? Chocolate on white? Rainbow on strawberry? Rainbow on chocolate? Coconut is better? Nuts are better? No prob. Those are all available too. How about custard-filled? FOUR different types of icing there. They also have a case of donut holes...it says "We specialize in holes." Made me laugh. Overall, the store is pretty rich in puns. I was simultaneously overwhelmed and delighted. If you're not into donuts (what are you, a communist?) they have breakfast and diner type sandwiches: bacon, egg, and cheese, chicken salad, etc. For lunch one day, I had a rainbow-sprinkled strawberry-iced donut, a custard-filled glazed donut, and a chocolate milk. What can I say? I'm a fat kid and there's a sad lack of donut options where I live. My total was right around $3.

Every June during the National Street Rod Show in York, we stop for coffee and donuts. The glazed donuts are the freshest and largest around. The coffee is consistantly delicious. We love the staff there. they are quick and pleasant.
