Guadalajara's is a find. My Tamal's masa outside melted in your mouth, the inside was tender chicken, my enchilada was filled with tender chopped steak both had just the right amount of a wonderful mole sauce so that my plate was not swimming in sauce yet I had plenty. The mole was soo good it brought tears to my eyes. I was surprised to look down and see my plate almost empty. Guadalajara's food had the homemade flavors I have been looking for in York. Flavors that could stand on their own without the need to over salt or pepper and the food was of a quality that did not need to have the lighting lowered to hide it. I can't wait for my next visit because I plan to eat lighter and sample their desserts. They offer Sopapillas with not just honey but chocolate syrup and whipped cream.

Third visit - food has been good every time and service is prompt. The street tacos (specifically the shrimp with chorizo and the pork with red onions) are fantastic.

The flautas were yummy...nice pieces of real chicken inside...not cat food texture chicken that I have expereienced in other Mexi restaurants. Salsa was delish. Oh yeah 1.99 margarita can't go wrong w/that! My friend had taco platter nothing exciting they said but loved the refried beans w/cheese on the plate. She said they tasted fresh not from a can. I'm not from the area but willing to drive that way again in the near future.

I'm getting closer! Since moving back from California I have been in search of a GOOD Mexican place in York, specifically a carnitas burrito & when I say burrito I mean one that you can pick up with your hands, not one that is put on a plate and covered with stuff. I did get a carintas burrito here, but bell peppers in a burrito? The burrito had HUGE pieces of pepper and onion in it along with the pork and cheese then covered with lettuce, 1 tomato slice, guac and sour cream. While the taste was good, to me, this isn't exactly what I am looking for. We also had the fresh made guacamole, it was good, but needed for of something, the chips were fresh as well. I will come back here again as I want to see how well they do on their Fish Tacos. This place will satisfy my Mexican craving, but I am still on the hunt. The atmosphere is nice and bright and it appeared to be kept clean. Our waiter Jefferey was super friendly and cheerful and VERY helpful.

Great food at a great price. I've been there a bunch of times and I have never been disappointed. Definitely one of the best Mexican places in town.

Went out to get some things at Target and we decided we were hungry so we were headed to Viet Thai on New Year's Day. The place was closed so we kept driving on Market Street and this is where we ended up. The lot was semi-full which was a good sign even though the restaurant wasn't really that busy. They seated us and brought us chips with two dips -salsa and a creamy tangy vegetable dip -I guess this is for non-salsa fans. the Menu is very large and has nice layout with lots of combination and lunch options which is nice if I choose to come back for lunch sometime. We both found many things we wanted to try, but I settled on the Fajita combination which included Shrimp, Chicken AND Steak - the service was attentive and we were diving into our food in a few minutes which was great since we were hungry from walking around the store. I was very surprised at the portion size - IT Was Huge! There was maybe 3 shrimp some chicken and lots of steak and the griddle was covered with grease under the onion and pepper mixture. I enjoyed the spice level and doneness. I got the biggest coke that I have seen at a restauant -it was tasty. I think we got there at just the right time too since it started to fill up right after we were served. I was able to watch some kind of freakshow on Univision in the bar area from my seat which I am not sure added to my experience, but it was something to see. I took the majority of the dish home since it was so large, but the flavor was pretty good - I tasted the guacamole and refried beans and rice was tasty too. I would return based on the service and cleanliness of the restaurant. I enjoyed the food so I recommend Guadalajara if you are in the mood for Mexican.

I've only been once and will definitely give it another try. The service was very sluggish although friendly :) Was so disappointed in the margarita. I expected it to be frozen and it wasn't (I didn't think to specify and wish my waiter had given me the choices without choosing for me.) The chicken fajita was good but just a bit saltier than I'm used to and the peppers and onions were cooked so long they are almost "cooked away." Salsa was yummy. I loved the decor and private booths. Pricing was excellent.

I'll call this the 2nd best Mexican restaurant in York. While I love the prompt and friendly service, along with the large glasses of soda. I found the food to be just above average. I am a lover of spicy foods and found this place to fall way short of expectations in this department. The fresh salsa was the best in town and chips were great, the ranch based dip that accompanied this I didn't mind but was not for me. The restaurant was clean and had a nice atmosphere. I will most surely return and eat here again. I would recommend this place to singles, couples and groups that are looking for a safe alternative to the few other Mexican restaurants in town.

Used to be on of the best Mexican places in York... Now just the same as any other place you can go to get bad service. Trust me on this one... Drive on by and go to Fiesta DeMexico instead!

LOVE this place! There is a sister restaurant in Bel Air named El or La Tortega (sp?) that my mom goes to a lot and she was surprised to see that York has one too, since it is her favorite restaurant. This place has the best Mexican I have ever had and is actually the reason I finally took Mexican food seriously. (before I thought it was a little unrefined) As for the rice here, as my puerto rican boyfriend put it: They must have a Rican back in the kitchen somewhere, cause the rice is bangin!" haha. But other than that, the buffalo wings are some of the BEST chicken wings I have EVER had hands down, and I'm quite the foodie when it comes to buffalo wings. Also, I usually either get the Cal Ripken Jr. or the Cilantro and Lime Chicken dishes. They are phenomenal. They also give free chips and salsa and this awesome white sauce which I have yet to determine the ingredients of...hmm...but I wish I knew so I could make it at home! Also, the place has awesome drinks specials, cheap rail margheritas, and a very friendly serving staff. Hope that helps!

Guadalajara is amazing. My dad and I were initially skeptical, but we have been back several times since because the food is excellent, the portions are plentiful, and the prices are really, really cheap. I can eat a lot, but the dinners here are so large that I'm often unable to finish them. I always get flan for dessert, and it's wonderful despite their tendency to cover it with sprinkles, which I find unusual. The service leaves something to be desired at times, and it can be a bit loud, but the quality of the food makes up for that. Try this place; you won't regret it!

Delicious food! We went here when it was a little bit colder, and we loved it. Very authentic scenery, very good service, very good food. We totally enjoyed it (: We went during lunchtime and we were served very quickly.

Love this place. Great food! About as authentic as you can get in York. Huge portions. Low price.

Nice flavors! Best mole rojo I've had locally, you can actually taste all the ingredients, quite a nice subtle complexity to this dish. Also tried the pork in verde sauce, this too was quite nicely seasoned. Chicken tamal was good and moist. Definitely plan on returning to try other items.

Ok...We have been back to Guadalajara at least 20 times since my last review...Lol. In those past experiences I have to say there hasn't been any problems. The food is spectacular! The service has become top notch. I can't seem to get enough of the carnitas street tacos. The meat is literally fork tender and I love the shaved habanero peppers on top. Don't forget to add a side of salsa picosa to put on em! Jeezus...those damn tacos are so freaking good!! Mexican food doesn't get any better than this in York.

So that was the BEST AND MOST MAGNIFICENT GUACAMOLE KNOWN TO MAN!! Don't ever take this off the menu. Made live, table-side, this guacamole has that elusive quality of clarity of flavors of all the ingredients. It doesn't get any fresher. Not being knowledgeable on all the permutations of Latin/Mexican cuisine, I can't compare any of the entrees but I can say that my soft chicken taco was wonderful. Just right. Visiting this area from Hawaii, we won't be able to repeat, but we highly recommend this friendly establishment. Good value.

Went here Saturday night during Memorial Day weekend and had a great meal. I had the chicken chimichanga and my friend had the quesadilla relleno. Both were piping hot and fresh and delicious. The table side guacamole was very fresh, with taste of lime and buttery avocado. The service was prompt and attentive. We will definitely return.

I used to come here often. The food is similar to el rodeo and fiesta Mexico. However, the last time we ordered takeout there were weird bugs crawling on top of our containers. I noticed this right when I was handed the bag... They were winged ants. I could puke just thinking about it.

I have been here twice and both times have had the shrimp fajitas. The wait staff is very attentive and the food comes out quickly. It is definitely a step up from the chain Mexican restaurants. The portions are large. Guacamole is made table side and it is delicious! I took some home and it didn't even brown overnight! At our first visit there, I forgot my to go box and one of the staff kindly ran it out to me. Definitely a worthwhile dining experience.

Great service! Love the guacamole! Got a free kids meal! Which was nice because my son didn't seem to be hungry that night!

They make their guacamole fresh right in front of you. Need I say more? BEST authentic Mexican restaurant I've been to since visiting San Diego, California

  • Alyssa L.

I came here on a Friday night with 3 other friends. The guac was made at the table. It was fresh and tasted good. The wait service was slow the remainder of the night. One dish ordered was carnitas and HAIR was in the meal. The staff was generous and took this off the tab, however only after asking for our waiter to tend to the table from another staff member; meal check-ins weren't made. Something unrelated to this but should be noted is that the restrooms are connected to the hotel. The bathrooms are in rough shape and a ROACH was in the bathroom. That is something to make you want to turn around and throw up your meal. Not eating here again, no matter how much I love guac!!

Been here several times. Never had a bad experience. Service is spot on. We got our tortilla chips quickly and our drinks. Our server David was very nice and answered our questions. I love the tamales. Highly recommend and we definitely be back. Next time we will get the guacamole made fresh at your table. We left full and satisfied.

Now that we have figured out which servers speak English and which ones do not, we have an excellent time and I am updating this to five stars. The service and the food continue to be excellent. I recommend Guadalajara in York to anyone that enjoys Mexican food. I have never been to Mexico myself but my wife and her family are both Mexican natives and they say it is very authentic.

Service has been great 2 out of 3 times we have gone. I always get the street tacos very good nice flavor and just the perfect amount of heat. I have had both the pork and streak and enjoyed them immensely.

Best table-side guac, and it's only $4.99! Everything I have ever gotten here has been on point! I won't eat Mexican anywhere else!

  • Dave M.

If you order the "Street" Tacos, make sure you point to it on the menu so you don't get "Three" tacos instead. Other than that, very pleased. Don't speak Spanish so there was a slight communication barrier.

This place is on point anytime. Great for weekend lunches- early evening weeknight feasts. Seated quickly. Staff is attentive, and the guacamole express table is really dope to. We go here roughly 1 every 2 months at the least.

Stopped in for lunch. Quick service, food was good, chips were hot and fresh. I will stop in again if I find myself in the area.

The food is the best mex in York. When I'm in town on business this is my go to dinner stop. Great service so quick you will have to say slow it up. The margarita is the best and you get great portions for the price. Try it. You won't be let down. Great for groups. My favorites are the chimuchanga, enchiladas, steak with chorizo and the guacamole. The fresh guacamole is soon good.

Came here for an early dinner around 6pm on a Saturday. The interior was themed somewhat in a tacky Mexican version of your run-of-the-mill American chain restaurant but with less junk all over the wall and an over-all more enjoyable atmosphere. As we sat down, they started us off with a bowl of nachos, ranch and salsa on the side. The salsa was OK. We were being served by someone who was either having a bad day or lost his passion for life a long time ago. The bus boy was similarly enthusiastic, but at least he was more helpful than our actual server. I ordered a beer at a decent price of $3. My friend ordered a Margarita with fresh lime juice, but she got a large glass of lime cordial instead, or at least what tasted like it. The food was decent. I wasn't too impressed with my friends quesadilla, but my burrito was good. It's just a shame I didn't get the burrito to begin with, because the server got my order wrong and gave me something else completely. The burrito was huge, a few inches shy of a Subway sized sub, and even thicker. Decent quality and overall enjoyable for $10.50. I was only able to finish about 30% of it. I probably would have given the over-all experience a 4 if we received decent service, but our server was god awful.

I work nearby and have always liked the food. But dec 12 they had a very poor health inspection. I waited till the new year to head back. It seems they are having issues still as my buddy and I both got ill after eating the taco salad. Never heading back even if it is walking distance from the office!

My wife and I ate here for lunch today. We'd been here before for dinner and decided that we liked it so much that we would try this place out for lunch since we both took the day off. The food was great. We ordered our drinks which came out pretty quickly and then our entrees when the waitress came back with out drinks. They have an extensive menu that would probably please any person wanting to get their fix of Mexican food. We ordered the home made guacamole with our chips and salsa. I must say their fresh guacamole is the best I have ever had and I have had a lot of guacamole with chips and salsa in my time. We both ordered off of the lunch special section of the menu. I got the steak burrito and my wife got the mixed enchiladas which was 1 chicken, 1 beef and 1 beans. My burrito was huge. It was filled with steak, rice and covered with cheese. It usually comes with beans but I asked not to have them. If you are in the mood for good Mexican food at a reasonable price, check this place out. The portion size was great for the amount of money you would pay. Thank you for reading my review. This review is based off of my personal experience and point of view.

Service was a little slow moving, but that did not matter at all because the food was amazing! The free dish of hot fresh chips was accompanied by cream and salsa...both delicious. Menu selection was very broad and really offered something for all tastes. They had great furniture and crazy paintings all over the place that were pretty and hilarious at the same time. I really really enjoyed my visit to Guadalajara

Yummy. Love the table side guacamole 4.99. Be careful if you ordet the large dos equis draft the glass is about a foot tall and six inches round. All the food we had tasted great except the chili releno. Tasted like the fridge.

I'm in York Pennsylvania on business. My home? Fort Worth Texas! Being away so long from home I wanted something that reminded me of home. What is that? Mexican of course. I decided to head to Guadalajara Mexican Restaurant. My first impression was that they have DosXX on draft. Salsa was good but could stand to be a bit spicier. But again this is the northeast. I was very impressed with the gentleman that prepared my homemade guacamole. Very good! I chose the combination plate of tostada, chicken enchilada and chile relleno. Not bad not bad! Service was great. I'm glad I came.

1.75 Stars The GOOD: - Decent quacamole, and they'll make it fresh at your table. -Salsa and warm chips - Chile Relleno was actually pretty good. I may go back for that. - Reasonable Prices - Chicken tamale was ok - 32 Oz Dos Equis beer .... GREAT!!!!! The BAD: - Bills itself "authentic", long stretch in my book. - Tacos/Tostadas all served on pre-made crunchy corn tortillas. The fake ones (aka low quality versions of Taco Bell taco shells). How can you call yourself authentic if you don't use real tortillas? - Beef = ground beef for most of their entrees, and this was bland, and the flavor that is there is rather disgusting. I didn't even finish it. I brought the beef burrito home for the sitter (who was very hungry, and will eat almost anything, she didn't even finish the burrito - her words "tasted like dogfood". I laughed in agreement. - No wonder almost all the entrees were covered in enchilada sauce!!! - Similar to El Rodeo/Fiesta Mexicana chains, very similar version of mexican. But I'll give El Rodeo an edge here. If you wanted something other than the horrible ground beef or chicken. You had to move up to premium entrees. And even then there were only a few selections that used pork carnitas or steak carne asada. How I miss Mi Ranchito Taco Shop. Shame York lost it's best Mexican restaurant (it was cheap and delicious). What does one have to do to get some hot carrots and a barbacoa beef burrito in York county? A chain like Baja Fresh is offering wayyy more authentic and tastier Mexican food than Guadalajara. I tried it cause it was new. But outside of the chile relleno and the 32 oz Dos Equis, I've gotta say pass. Much preferred the Indian restaurant that was in this location prior. York has a fair number of Mexican eateries, even if most are mediocre. But we don't have a single Indian buffet anymore. :-( Disappointed

Upon visiting the York area with my now husband, we were looking for a bite to eat when we were first arriving into town, and I apparently wanted to test my theory of "all good Mexican restaurants are attached to seedy hotels or motels." This was the case back in Cleveland where I resided for 12 years BUT it was definitely not the case for this restaurant. The crowd was definitely way older for a Friday night (and it was not even the early bird time frame), and it seemed quite busy. This must mean it is good, right? We got seated, got menus, ordered, and service was seeming pretty good at this point. They have someone who comes tableside to make guacamole... this was fun, but my husband said it was not too good. He got the fish tacos and I got chicken ones... neither were impressive or good even, although such a basic dish. The bathroom was in the hotel lobby and I have to say this... I never want to have to go in there again. YUCK! Next time we are visiting his family, this WILL NOT be where we go to dinner no matter how much I want Mexican food!

The food here is terrible. The staff is rude! Pick any other Mexican restaurant in York but this one.

This place is authentic and the price is right! I usually go on Mondays for 1/2 price Fajitas! I also like the guacamole station and the daily beer specials.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
