Best Chinese food in York. Take out is always extremely fast, and you never have to worry about getting home and saying "dang, they forgot my egg roll," because they are very careful. They are a little pricey, so I gotta give em 4 stars, but food-wise they are the tops.

I've lived in York for almost a year now and almost weekly my wife and I enjoy dining here or grabbing carryout. I never thought to yelp the place cause it's your run of the mill chinese food joint. However after seeing the reviews and pics on here I felt compelled to put up some of my own thoughts. Having grown up in an Asian household and in New York City, you get a bit picky when it comes to Chinese food even if it is Americanized. So for me to keep coming back must say something right? The staff here is very friendly... English is obviously not their first language but they make the effort to give the customers what they want. When calling in orders they've never gotten anything wrong and always give a lot of extra goodies for the carryout orders (tea bags, fried noodles, duck sauce...). The food is pretty good. I always order different stuff to try depending on my mood, so I'd recommend anything from the basic soups to the specials, which they have posted on a chalkboard as you walk in. The dining area isn't too shabby either. A nice little sit down place, with decent decor... Overall a friendly atmosphere. All in all... If you're in York and craving Chinese food, this spot is a great choice... It's right off exit 14 on I83. And if you're from York... You know they're aren't many choices for good food...

Stop in here frequently for lunch. Very nice sit down Resturant. Inexpensive lunch menu with excellent food. Wait staff is very polite and attentive. Can't do better for a quiet tasty lunch.

I am a Chinese food addict and my girlfriend is a picky eater. We have had nothing but great service and good food at first wok whether it has been eat in or carry out. She absolutely loves their Kung pao chicken extra spicy and I love the steamed dumplings with ginger soy sauce and the dragon and phoenix that has sweet and sour shrimp and general taos chicken. They always treat us right and always have our carryout in 10 min.

For the York PA area, First Wok is a top choice for Chinese. Enjoy their spring rolls, soups, dumplings and variety of dishes. Have not been disappointed yet in any dish or service and have eaten there many times both dine in and take out. Food and service are continually great.

ABSOLUTELY AWFUL if you are looking to be treated as a human being. My family orders large meals for carry out on a regular basis, and First Wok has completely lost our business due to ridiculously incompetent and offensive "customer service." I don't get easily frazzled, and I'm so mad I can't even eat my order, which happens to be wrong for the third time tonight. The gal on the phone blamed me for mix-up, and did not offer a discount, let alone an apology. After getting the manager on the phone, she insulted my (amazingly kind and patient) husband, and threatened to recant what she FINALLY offered, a $10 discount on an over $70 order, saying, "You're asking too much! Keep it up and you won't get any refund at all!" Excuse me? Eat at First Wok, where the customer is always wrong! They seriously have the ability to offend even the most laid-back of individuals, which, believe it or not, we happen to be. Merry Christmas!

Just picked up carryout yesterday. For $7 and some change, I received a neatly packed bag of chicken and broccoli, won ton soup, fried noodles, hot chili oil (I requested this), a fortune cookie, sauces, fork and spoon and even a tea bag. So cute! Food was great and such a bargain.

My wife and I just finished eating a carry out meal. We have done this many times before but not in the past 6 months. The meal we had was our usual. It did not taste like I remember it to be. Also, I did not recognize any of the staff at the restaurant when getting our order. I suspect things have changed and not for the better. Too bad I used to like this place a lot.

Used to be one of my favorite Chinese food restaurants but the scallops were bad in my meal and I wasn't offered another meal choice or given the option to have the meal removed from my bill.

Meat out back on hooks, dangling over a fat bin with feral cats lurking. daily. I worked next to this for 2 years.

This was a good restaurant when it was out on West Market. Got the General Tso's and it was dry and overcooked before it was thrown into a gelatinous sauce with two pieces of raw brocolli. Definitely wouldn't recommend the sweet and sour soup which was so salty it tasted neither sweet nor sour. The eggroll was good but greasy. It's a shame because First Wok was the best Catonese around when they first opened in York. Just hadn't eaten there in a while and dont plan on returning anytime soon.

This is one of the best Chinese restaurants in York. We eat here a few times a month. It is a great place for lunch. Service is prompt and the food is good. There are no great Chinese restaurants in York otherwise I would rate it higher. The noodles are fresh and we like the sauce on the lo mein.

I have recently moved out of the area, but First Wok is the restaurant by which I measure all other chinese restaurants. You can always count on First Wok to use quality ingredients, especially meats, in all their foods. I have spent far more money on beef and broccolli at other places and was unable to eat the beef. This was a once a week stop for me for the last couple of years. The lunch specials are a particularly good deal. They can easily feed two people or feed one person for two meals. They always provide the fried noodles and duck sauce with each take out order. The dishes with vegatables, such as beef and broccolli are slightly better than the fried chicken dishes like General Tso's.

I've been going to First Wok for about 15 years now.The food has always been tasty and consistently prepared. Lunch specials are an excellent deal and the staff have always been extremely friendly and generous. As for the raw meat I think it's unfair to assume it was for sale to the public and having two year old pictures up of birds drying probably isn't the most judicious representation of the restaurant's quality of food or level of sanitation.

Best hot & sour soup and chicken with garlic sauce in York!

Best Chinese food I have ever had. Cannot speak to the meat on hooks, let's hope that is a thing of the past. I have been going to first wok for 20ish years. Never had a bad experience, staff is always so helpful and willing to food is plentiful and cheap not to mention the best I've ever had. Best deal is to go for lunch, you get soup or I usually sub an egg roll and an entree for a low lunch price. They say they deliver but every time I call for delivery they say they are not delivering today.

I can't really comment on the other review mentioning meat hanging on hooks in the back of the restaurant, as I have never witnessed it and have never had a bad meal here. I have actually been a fan of the First Wok since they opened their first restuarant in West York back in the early 90's. I wouldn't go as far as to say it's the best Chinese food I've ever had, but it is better than average. The staff has always been friendly and service always good. I would not hesitate to recommend the First Wok to anyone having a Chinese food craving.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
