so I read the reviews and don't know anything about real delis or what their sandwiches should taste like, but I can tell you this what my experience was like. Three of us went there for the first time and ordered hoagies we have never seen before. They were absolutely delicious! The guys behind the counter were great and answered our questions about the menu. We are definitely going back to try something else new.

I think the best part about this place was the Italian Subs. Honestly, I have tried a few other things at this place and they weren't that great. Just say no to the cheese steak...

Now that's an Italian hoagie. Went for the first time and was very pleased to see not just authentic Italian meats, but they also make fresh mozzarella! I got the Slice of Heaven which had a nice kick to it thanks to the capocollo and the mozzarella slices were little pieces of cheezy heaven that I ended up picking off my hoagie just so I could enjoy them by themselves. I also got the Pazzo Italiano to-go. I shared that with my bf. He loved it and wants to join me next time I go. It's definitely a deli-type ambience. The service was very good and friendly. Oh, and I found out they'll make fresh-made marscapone for you if you give them 24-hours notice. So back away from the $5 footlongs, spend a little extra and you'll end up with a really great, quality hoagie with excellent meats and cheeses and a fantastic roll. It's soooooo worth it.

Has a chain feel but with worse product. Sorry I do not get the Yelp hype saying how great it is. Seemed average at best. Not worth going out of your way.

Had my first visit there tonight after I read about this place on Yelp. I didn't know what this was going into it, was it a sit down place? Was it fine dining? Was it all takeout? It's small from the front, but spacious inside. I should have looked at the menu before I went in. I ended up with the momma mia, my girlfriend got the Italian Stallion. We both loved them. Hers has presciutto and fresh mozzarella, mine had capacola and provolone. For some reason, I've never eaten pepper on my italian before. This came with what looked to be banana peppers on the top of them. I've got news....best Italian subs in Pennsylvania. We're going back later this weekend for meatball subs. The place also has some food items like in an italian grocery store for some authentic italian food at home. There was italian ice cream there as well which we didn't get. They also have fresh cannolis that we're getting later this weekend. The sandwich was a little oily, but flavorful. The chips I got as a side seemed pretty greasy. They are some sort of bagged organic chips. Good flavor, but almost see through. Clean place, huge flat screen TV, really cool menu. Will be back many times! Edit: went back two days later to try the meatball sub. That's also the best in York! Both my girl and I got cannolis to go. She definitely approved. I also bought a pint of gelato. That was $11. Ouch. It's good, not as creamy as ice cream, but also a lot less calories and fat. I can't stop saying enough good things about this place.

This place is the best sandwich shop in York! I have walked by this place many times over the last year and never stopped in. I finally did and this place is now on my top 10 sandwich shops in the entire nation. The shop has a unique flavor as there are some REAL Italian meats to choose from. I had once of their many variations of an italian sub drenched in their homemade sweet oil and vinegar dressing. It was the best sub that I have had in York. They also sell the meats that they have by the pound, so you can pick some real italian flavor to take home. Its a little off the beaten path tucked in a corner between Sally's and Aroma buffet, but it is worth stopping in if you want a great sandwich. The only challenge is trying to fit all that flavor in your mouth at one time!

  • Stacy S.

The food we ordered was actually good but behind the counter looked messy. There was left over meat just laying there on the slicer. Products were haphazardly thrown around and some sort of cleaning product and dust rag was sitting were food is prepared. The girl that waited on us seemed bothered and annoyed and another worker couldn't stop watching TV to wait on the next customer. We aren't interested in returning.

Very tasty! Reminds me of a deli from New York. Don't expect to pay subway prices though; this place also offers a great variety of meats but they are more expensive than the deli counter at Giant or Walmart.

I'll admit that I have a negative predisposition against restaurants that were converted from old Quizno's restaurants. I don't know why, but they all just give me that depressed, over-hyped, and disappointing Quizno's vibe. As much as I wanted it to, Deli of Italy did NOT overcome those negative feelings, although it wasn't terrible by any stretch of the imagination. For me, it simply came down to the quality of the meat. It was just not good. If I'm going to eat prosciutto, capocollo, and salami, I want the GOOD stuff, not some cheap, overly-processed stuff from Sam's Club. That said, my sandwich wasn't terrible, and my Caesar Salad was pretty solid, so I'll stick with 3 stars for this joint.

  • Don B.

The food is always great. They have the real Italian deli meats that are not that common around here. Their house dressing is amazing too. Try the meals, try the sandwiches and try the salads. Don't try to extra hot cheese steak. It is really, really too much. The restaurant is a little hard to find toward the end of the strip between Walmart and Sam's Club.

I had a sub which i couldn"t eat the whole thing it taste unlike other places which is a good thing i cant remember the name of it .I know it had 5 meat toppings on it.

GREATTT hidden gem. Even though the location could be better (a shopping center, really?) the food hits the spot! There really aren't any other italian deli's/sandwich shops in the york area that I'm aware of and I'm SOOO thankful that York has this place. They have both vegetarian and pescatarian food options, which is nice because usually italian sandwiches involve pork. I went to this place after pining for a good italian sandwich and striking out at jimmy john's (blecchh!). Coming from Baltimore and eating italian sandwiches at Toscana's (now called Canella's, in Carney) where that is literally proven to be the BEST sandwich shop in Baltimore...I appreciated this place's food and found it comparable. Keep them open please!!!!

ate here 3 times a week before owners jerked me around. sad.... good food, but you need to consider people's feelings before you insult them. not cool.

I absolutely love Deli of Italy - we don't get to go out there nearly enough, but when we do I am all about a slice of heaven. This is my favorite sandwich ever, although I have had a few others that they offer, and they've all been good. They have homemade cannolis that I'm a big fan of as well, and both of the folks that are behind the counter that I've met (I'm assuming they're the owners) are soooo nice. One thing that I especially like from Deli of Italy is that you can pick up some very interesting speciality meats there, if you'd rather just make your own, and there's also a few italian grocery items there, as well as some kick ass potatoe chips. It is a bit hard to find if you don't know where it's at in that center, but it's well worth looking for.

I LOVE a good Italian sub and this place can't be beat. There are about 10 varieties of Italian sub options with various Italian meats and wonderful sub rolls. Whenever I need to run an errand on the east side of town, I make a point to stop in to Deli of Italy to get lunch or dinner to go. The setup is casual - at the end of the stripmall where WalMart is - with a mini Italian market up front, various tables for dine in and then a big order counter. The owners are friendly and make sure you get the right order every time.

I love this deli! I've been going here regularly for about 5. It is more expensive than subway, but you're paying for fresh delicious ingredients not even comparable to the stuff you get at subway (it'll make you rethink fresh). They have many amazing subs as well as salads, soups, hot dishes and incredible homemade desserts. Remember it's a deli so you can also stock up on food for home! We always order our desserts for the holidays from them.

One of York's best kept secrets... the owners are a blast, the food is DELIcious, and they recently relocated to a prime location in the York Town Center Plaza (over near Five Below on the Aspen Dental end). Two of my favs are the Italian Rose (salad w/chicken, fresh mozz, and tomato) and the Qubano (mmm mmm good).

I only gave the review since I just found out Deli of Italy closed before I got to try them. What a shame, CLOSED!

Delicious. A bit pricey because most, if not all, of the ingredients are imported. But, you get what you pay for. In a good way.

Great selection of sandwiches! Can't wait to try this place again and get something new. Well above the greasy pizza shop subs populating most of York City.

I really wasn't too sure that I was going to enjoy this place, especially since I'm not a HUGE fan of Italian food. I decided to try it anyway and I am so glad that I did. I see myself coming here whenever I'm looking for a good place to eat. The people who own the place are extremely nice and the food is awesome!

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
