We've been eating here frequently for over a year. Why? Because we moved here from the Southwest and we know what real Mexican food is. Most places in Eugene / Springfield are so bland and I don't know why. If you want flavor and fresh, eat here. Good service, clean, and they have gluten free options! Almost all Mx restaurant owners in town should eat here and learn what authentic is. You'd think they'd know.

Well....this sucks cause it was a good place for drinks and basic Mexican food. We will not be back. We have been going here for drinks and food for a while now. It's been hit and miss overall, but a nice place. The food has always been okay. Nothing great but just good. It was nice to have a small local joint for this. I grew up in North East Los Angeles and yes, I am a bit jaded when it comes to Mexican food. This time we were basically forgotten after we ordered our food. NOTHING gets me more upset when I go out to eat and get really poor service. I can cook better food at home...I like to go out to get served. After our drinks and food order we saw 3 other tables get their food before us. It's not like we ordered anything complicated either. A burrito, some tacos and a kids quesadilla. Half of our order came out after 45 minutes and it was cold. Then most of the other half came out 5 minutes later. Then they messed up my daughter's tacos and we had to wait another 10 minutes for hers. We like to eat as a family so we all kinda sat there staring at our cold food until we all had something to eat. The waiter kinda apologized but offered nothing of a real apology or any kind of compensation. We were all very upset. I can put up with mediocre food but poor service....I am done!

The lunch special is now 6 bucks. Difference now is you can chose any of the entree's from previous lunch specials. Great option. And for all of those who say "I grew up in LA and this place..." I can say, I grew up in LA and this place rocks!

Memo's was my first dining out experience in Springfield. The staff was very friendly and attentive, and helpful with food suggestions. The margaritas were AWESOME (thank you for not watering them down!) Overall a VERY positive experience with great food and good prices. The clientele is also very welcoming and friendly. Memo's is definitely worth your time if you are looking for good food in this area!!

I went here because the reviews said they have the best chips and salsa in the Eugene area... they have not! Although the one's at Chapala are far from perfect, they clearly are better... but the search remains open. Anyway, my main dish (a Mexican class, but I forgot the name... something like Mocajete) was pretty tasty, but nothing special.

Love this place. Super friendly, great service, and good food! The chips are thick and fresh. My kids( 8 and 9 yrs. old) finished off the red salsa. That tells you its not that spicy but still good. I prefer the pico salsa. I ordered the flautas and my hubby ordered a shrimp plate(he cant remember name). My kids ordered a cheese burger and fries.(boring) As we waited we played a couple of rounds of I Spy. Very entertaining since the restaurant is thoughtfully decorated. Green and yellow was popular in our game. The kids loved their food. The flautas were crispy and the beef was juicy. It was so good. Hubby said his shrimp was juicy and the sauce was delicious. The servings were large. !Score! We received great service. The next time i go in i will be counting how many times he says amigo amiga. Its allot! Also i gave it a four star because the only five star Mexican food would have to be my Abuelitas cooking. She makes a mean green rice!

Service is always great here. Food is very well priced and you get a good size portion. My wife loves their chicken chalupa and orders it every time.

We went to this restaurant for the first time yesterday and really enjoyed both the food and service. Chips and salsa were great and they were prompt with complimentary refills. I got the steak fajitas and my husband the chicken. Both were flavorful and adequate portions along with rice, beans, guac and lettuce/tomato on the side. We could hear the cast iron plate sizzling when they placed the fajitas in front of us! Only issue I had was that they were slow to refill our sodas and I had to look for a server to get more corn tortillas. I would definitely go back!

The portions were large and the server was very attentive. It was a little pricier than we anticipated, but we will definitely be going again.

Food is hearty and good. My wife and I have only had lunch here but find the portions are nice and the wait staff pleasant.

There was a bug in the salsa. The bathroom floor was messy with brown water on the floor and smelt like pee. Drinks tasted like gasoline. Terrible, don't eat here

Digusting! There was a bug in the food! Guys bathroom was filthy and the drinks we ordered from the bar tasted like gasoline. I am actually thinking of calling the health department on this place!

This place is gross. The food is bland. I saw a bug in the salt shaker and a centipede crawled across the wall of the booth we were at. Ick. Never again. I wanted to also add that there was no tp and no soap to wash hands in the bathroom.

I'm always delighted by Memo's. The food here is fantastic. The margaritas are enormous, strong, and scrumptious. The service is fun and friendly. It's the best Mexican food in town. My husband and I walked down last night. He had the enchiladas st. maria and I had enchiladas crostena. His enchiladas are our favorite. I don't know what they put in the sauce, but it's delicious. My enchiladas were also quite tasty. They make this delightful citrusy, creamy sauce for their veggie dishes and this dish that's just amazing. As always, the servers were fun and laughed along with us when we drunkenly stumbled out the door after having the medium sized margaritas. They do have a large size, fish bowl size really, margaritas but that's a Friday night thing instead of Wednesday.

I ordered burrito Colorado, it was wonderful, very delicious, very tender cuts of beef wrapped in a regular burrito (rice beans) Also my boyfriend ordered chili verde, he also enjoyed his meal, once again tender and delicious pork. Chips were old but salsa is spicy. We'd consider coming back to try other items

My husband loves hot stuff and their salsa meets his needs. He is a tamale fan and they make good ones. The chile reno is ok. I love their fresh made guacamole. We are enjoying working our way through their menu.

I've eaten here several times, trying pretty much everything on the menu at one time or another. The food is very good, not exceptional....but then Mexican food in almost all of the US is pretty much standardized fare. If there is anyplace along the West Coast which is like, say, the San Angel Inn in Mexico City, PLEASE let me know. I'm not fond of meat filled rellenos and I avoid ordering them there. Everything else is fine. The salsa for the chips is also very good. (Little pieces of serrano chilis in it....so be a little careful if you can't handle heat! ) Wait staff are very friendly, very efficient. They are priced very fairly. ...Margaritas are copious but will not overcome you. You should be able to leave without seeing double.

Bad service and mediocre food. I've had much better Mexican food in the area and definitely better service, they seemed irritated we were even there. I paid for food we mostly left on our plates, and our server didn't seem to notice or care. They put frozen veggie mix (cubed carrots, peas, green beans, and Lima beans), in the rice and the enchilada, so gross. Chips seemed a bit stale and greasy but the salsa and fresh pico were actually the highlights of the meal. Wish I had more positives to add, but we won't be back.

I lived in LA for a while and I love Mexican food. I wasn't expecting to get the kind of gourmet Mexican (or any ethnic) food in Eugene that I got in LA, but I was surprised how bad the restaurants were here. I also lived lived in Portland for many years, so I guess I was a little spoiled. I tried a lot of Mexican food restaurants here, and was usually not just disappointed, but often grossed out completely. A waiter at the old Sfizio once suggested Memo's so I finally gave it a shot. Our waiter didn't even show up at our table for 10 minutes at least, so I was ready for another bad experience, but the busser kept us supplied with chips and salsa and even got me some hot salsa to try out. The menu is just the standard "hot plate" Mexican fare: the typical entrees served with beans and rice that you usually see at a Mexican restaurant. On the recommendation of another Yelp reviewer I tried the spinach enchiladas. They were good! I think I ate about a brick of melted cheese that was on top of it, but that is how they make enchiladas right? The service was excellent. They acted like they actually wanted us to be there, which was a big change from the dagger eyes I was getting from our waitress at Chapala. My wife got the pork tacos. I tried a bite and the pork was pretty dried out. I wouldn't recommend those. They also use the thin, dry little corn tortillas like the kind locally made by Carmen's. Man, it got me wishing for some of those thick, moist home made corn tortillas at Ranchito Grill. When we were finished, a waiter came by and asked my wife and I if we wanted a shot of Mexican whiskey on the house. It was a nice gesture and the kind of thing that goes along way to making a dining experience enjoyable, even if the Mexican whiskey was just a low-shelf amaretto from what I could tell. Oh yeah, my wife and I split a large margarita and it was good! This place is trying pretty hard and the food is good, so give it a go!

The ambiance and the attention we always receive from the owner and the wait staff every time we go. I'm sorry "Brian K" had a bad experience. We went there last night and were greeted by the staff we've gotten to know: Eliazer, Maria, and Diego! This is a locally owned and operated restaurant and although we live in Portland we eat here every month when we visit because the food is good and everyone is super friendly. We are vegetarians and our favorite dish is the spinach enchiladas! Incredible! Also ask for a shot of Mexican whiskey sometime.

Best margaritas I've ever had. Wonderful friendly staff and great food. We've been going since they opened and I swear I think we end up there an average of once a week. They greet us with a handshake and treat us like family. As I watch how they treat other customers, it's with the same friendly enthusiasm and desire to please.

This style of Mexican food is not my favorite, so thus the 3-star rating. That being said, the food is very high quality. It's very fresh and obviously homemade. The owner is extremely friendly and accommodating. They also have awesome drink specials and ICE COLD glasses for the beers. Yumm. I recommend giving it a try for sure.

I've been aware of Memo's for awhile, but I had them confused with a mexican place down the street which doesn't seem to be in business anymore, so I've been avoiding them; big mistake. It's not the most authentic place in town, but they're damn tasty. When trying out a new mexican place I usually try to get everything separate on my plate ,so I can taste each item individually Unfortunately they didn't seem to have anything like a carnitas platter, so I coud construct my own tacos. Instead I ordered a plate with a picadillo burrito and a chili relleno. Both were quite good. The chili relleno wasn't even close to the quality of Naya's, but still really tasty. The beans and rice are what made this place stand apart from other mexican restaurants in the area. Oh, and the chips and salsa were damn good. They are complimentary and serve 2 kinds of salsa, one a spicy finely choppy sauce and the other a very chunky mostly sweet mixture of tomatoes, onions and cilantro. For some reason my girlfriend though the chunky salsa was much spicier; she also made a mess of herself spooning it onto the chips and then having it spill off while shoving it into her mouth. :) We went a bit late in the day, so it was a bit expensive for a lunch, but if they have lower prices earlier in the day I will definitely come back more often.

I still am a fan of Memo's but when I crave really delicious Mexican food, I go to Mi Tierra. If I want better ambiance, I'll stay with Memo's.

Memo's has good food and a great price. You can get 2 combination plates for $10 during the lunch rush. Bring a friend or arrive famished. The owner is an awesome dude and super friendly. Just try and count the number of times he says "amigo" during your visit. If you go for dinner I'd recommend the mole. They also have a pretty good happy hour special on beer and tequila. Swing by for lunch if you're tight on dough.

The people are very nice, and I eat here once in a while because a friend likes to come here but I have to say, grease is not a flavor. I expect some grease, it's Mexican food after all but this leaves an after taste. The more I eat here the less I like it. Steak fajitas, the steak should not taste like grease.

I was in town from California recently and my brother took me to Memos based on some positive Yelp reviews. The ambiance is nice, clean, rustic, and laid back from the moment you walk in the door. The smell of the food cooking was outrageous from the moment we entered the restaurant. The chips and fantastic salsa were great starters. I had the carnitas and they were the best I ever eaten even by my snobbish Bay Area standards. My brother had the vegetarian fajitas, had a ton of awesome food and was quite content. The portions are large, the food is outrageous and reasonably priced compared to other so called Mexican food restaurants in the greater Eugene/Springfield area. The only drawback was we only got called amigos 4 times. (We liked one of the other reviews and counted)

It was ok. Had the taco salad and it was pretty good. Not a lot of vegetarian options so that is why i rated it average. The salsa was pretty good with the chips!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
