I don't really have much to say except that this place makes awesome thai food. If you like thai, take a break from your regular haunts and try this one out. You won't be disappointed. The menu is fairly simple, unlike other thai places I've been to, and it's straightforward. It's delicious!

This place is really good, I was skeptical that Springfield had any good Thai places but I was totally wrong. We ordered the spicy beef fried rice and it was excellent, so was the pad c ew. I highly recommend, nice atmosphere, seems kid friendly and the staff (I think it is a family) is really nice

We were driving through the area and stopped by for a quick bite. Being from California we didnt have high expectations, however the food was amazing! We had drunken noodles and yellowcurry...so good! We will be back!!

This place is... ok. Not really spectacular, just ok. They took my favorite dish off the menu, and it's really seemed to have gone downhill in the last couple of years. It's a "mom and pop" type of place, ran by a husband and wife, which I always respect. The husband is the server and the wife is the cook. The husband is very soft spoken, which makes it hard to hear him when he talks, which isn't a lot. He kind of lacks a personality for someone in the service industry. He walked up to our table to take our order and just stood there waiting. Not asking if we were ready, had any questions, or anything. I like the Pad Thai, it's typically what I order. I can't remember what my husband orders. I'm not a fan of the fact their little girl is in the restaurant. They let her take over the bar with coloring books, toys and whatever else she plays with. They also let her ride a big wheel around inside too. She's cute and typically not disruptive, but restaurants aren't a day care either. I like their food, but it's definitely not my first choice for Thai food. It's just close and convenient sometimes.

Worth the short drive off the beaten (and boring) path, this family owned/operated gem is just what I needed! Wow! I didn't know what to expect as I just stumbled across it, but I was in for a very pleasant surprise. I had the Pad Thai with chicken (my goto dish) and it was excellent! My companion went with the Pad See Ew and it, too, was on point. And the salad rolls were crisp and fresh, exactly what you want from that dish! And drinks? Oh yeah, we rocked a Thai tea and Thai coffee and both were well balanced and refreshing, not too crazy sweet like sometimes happens. The service was excellent and everyone was welcoming and friendly. Seriously, I got lucky on this one, but you don't have to...because you know about the awesomeness! Go here, eat lots, you'll be happy you did!

As a Seattle transplant, I've been wondering where all the Thai restaurants are...and tonight I finally found this one! I ordered shrimp and peanut sauce noodles and brought them home, driving along with that exquisite scent wafting in the car.... Very good. I have only one comment about the take-out carton, the sauce leaked out into the bag! No worries, there was enough to be delicious at home. It's a nice place and I like the dark red walls and sponge painted ceiling, and the fake banana tree with fake bananas is pretty cute! There is a room off to the side that would be good for dining in, and I liked the view of the field next door out the South windows. What I'm getting at is, it would be nice to eat in the restaurant. I will definitely go back!

Curry Noodle excellent. Panang Curry w/tofu was great, but slightly sweet. Pad Thai, son loved it.! We will be back.

It's a hole in the wall but the food is so freaking good. Very friendly staff! It's always busy ... Love it!

Yummy, cheap, fast and easy. Good service, and I like the food. I wish more people knew about it!

  • Darrin H.

Bland, boring thai food. I always order chicken pad thai the first time I eat at a new thai restaurant. This gives me a basis for comparison. Unfortunately this was one of the worst thai meals I have had. Basically chicken, egg and noodles with little to no flavoring. Small portion size too. Won't be returning for a second meal. The service was quick though.

Wife loves the pumpkin curry. I personally love the drunken noodles.

Two of us had the Thai peanut sauce with chicken, rice & vegetables and one of us had the Thai peanut sauce with rice noodles & vegetables. Both dishes were gluten and soy free. My son enjoyed the meal so much he wants me to try to duplicate it at home. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was low key and relaxing.

We love frequenting this restaurant. The owners are friendly and the prices are reasonable. I love the peanut sauce and always order extra for the pad thai, their basil garlic is awesome, and drunken noodles never disappoint. I love going to a place where we are known by our name and greeted with a smile. This is one of my favorite lunch spots. It is very conveniently located to me - just down the street!

    Great people. Great food. Worked with Gan on an off for a little over three years and still will say "she has the best recipe for pad Thai in town"! No other Thai restaurant has what they got and that is Elle ( ;

Was looking so forward to excellent thai food and was greatly disappointed. Thai tea was good but phad thai was soggy and bland. Panang curry was watery and had peas and carrots in it- odd. There were no other customers here at 1pm on a Tuesday. Would eat somewhere else the next time we pass through.

Based on several very good reviews, I had to give this place a chance. Located off of Centennial and in the Centennial shopping center, you need to go all the way to the eastern most and last door on your right before you see the small sign. This is really a one person operation during the day we were there. The food is true to others that I have been to before, and quite authentic and delicious. However, there is a real problem, and that's there is nothing remarkable or memorable about this place to warrant saying this is a great place to come back to. Maybe I'm being overly picky and I would without reservation go back for another meal, but as I said its just something about this place that doesn't inspire for a higher rating. I think part of the issue may be that simply when there are four or five other tables it does take a little while for the food to come to the table simply because there is only one person. As I said, I love Thai food, and this is a good (food wise) place to go but it's blah interns of decor and general atmosphere. I will go again, and hopefully it's better next time.

Best little known Thai food restaurant in Eugene Springfield area. Highly recommend the Spicy Basil with Thai Iced Tea. We take all of our out of town guests here and nobody's been disappointed.

  • Ryan F.

Just like people are saying, it's a mom n pop restaurant, so expect the kid and the humble decor, etc. Important thing is, my extra hot chicken pad c ew to go was very very tasty!

(Disclaimer: This was an isolated incident and your experience could be entirely different) Perhaps there are communities in Thailand where it is appropriate for a small child to swing a plastic bat and launch it at customers while they dine. Perhaps there is a restaurant in Thailand where it is appropriate for the owner to scoff when asked what their best dish is and state rather hastily "I've had a long day." Perhaps in Thailand diners pay for the opportunity to have attention starved children climb all over their table, swing from the beads that divide dining areas, and scream at the top of their lungs. Unfortunately, I didn't find myself grabbing a bite to eat in Southeast Asia last night. I was sitting in a restaurant in the backside of a Centennial shopping center as a pissed off mother let her kid run the place to the ground while a Beauty and the Beast sequel played in the background. People shouldn't pay to eat in this atmosphere. If I wanted to watch your kid I'd open a daycare.

It was ok. We ate here some years back and decided to give another try. The wife's noodles with peanut sauce was pretty bland. I had the red curry which had more thin sauce than necessary. The real put off was that the rice was not cooked thoroughly. Won't return.

I have been eating at Bai Khao since shortly after they opened their doors and I have never been disappointed! The ingredients are always fresh. The sauces are fantastic. The owners truly care about what they are doing. It is a little out of the way, but this is Eug/Spfld....you can drive clear across town in 15 minutes...so getting there is no problem. My favorite, Drunken Noodles. Everything I have tasted there, I have liked. For Thai, this is an excellent place!

We went in on the lunch hour. The restaurant was nice. It busy at all, seated ourselves. Took about 5-10 minutes for our food to be served. I ordered chicken pad thai with medium level spicy. It wasn't spicy at all I added sriacha the whole time I was eating it. Staff was curt, but food was good.

I had the sweet pork on the lunch menu. Very fresh and tasty. I recommend this place!

This place is amazing. Their drunken noodle with chicken is our favorite. The service and atmosphere is great as well. I would recommend this place to anyone, from new Thai food customers to those who love Thai food. This place has never disappointed.

I get pad thai here weekly. Best pad thai ive had in eug/spfd. Huge portion. Usually split it up into two meals. It's even good as leftovers. The spicy basil chicken with rice is delicious. Everything is fresh. Idk about in house service as i get takeout. Takeout service is good.

I love this place. For me it is about the food...I don't care about ambience, I don't care about decor. If the food is good....I will be back. Having said that, the ambience and decor are just fine. Besides, I prefer my Thai food to be cooked by someone from Thailand! Or at least under the watchful eye...here the kitchen is open and you can see who is doing the cooking. Stongly recommend the Drunken Noodles....fantastic! Not the easiest place to find, but well worth the search. I have yet to be disappointed. Pad Thai, Yellow curry, all is great.

Have eaten here many times. Food is fantastic. Everything is fresh and tasty. Love the spicy level option. It's a warm family atmosphere.

Absolutely awesome! Pumpkin curry and spicy stir fried rice with shrimp are amazing!

Some of the best Pad Se Ew around. I also sugest starting off you meal with some sticky rice and peanut sauce. Wash it all down with a thai tea or thai ice cofee. This place seems a bit tricky for people to find but once you find it, you will never forget where it is.

Stopped in for lunch. Loved the ambience. The food was fast, fresh, and fantastic! My spicy basil perfectly cooked and spiced to perfection. This little gem is hard to find but definitely worth the effort!

Monday, Februay 18th Our ladies group "The Mange Bella's" had dinner at Bai Khao. It was wonderful and every dish was beautifully prepared and delicious. We all complemented the chef and her husband on a delightful dining experience and we all will recommend this Thai restaurant again and again. There were eleven of us and we were even entertained by the owners charming six year old daughter dressed like a princess. If you have not eaten at Bai Khao please try it. Dad takes the orders and serves, mother is the chef and their daughter is the greeter and entertainment. What could be more delightful? Thank you Bai Khao, The Mange Bella's

very hard to find, extremely difficult at night. $2 thai ice tea is best. Food is okay. The portions are small for the expense. Not that exciting or different for area Thai places. Intimate atmosphere, nice people.

This place was the first Thai restaurant I stumbled upon in the area....and there's no need to find another!!! Food was ready quickly and it was the most flavorful Pad Thai I've had in a long time! The noodles were cooked perfectly and the portion was enough for nearly 3 meals for me (haha). Delicious, I'll definitely be back for more!

I absolutely love this place! I was there this last month. It was calm and very pleasant to dine in, and the food was amazing!

First off the food was good, the service was terrible. The lady rushed us when we ordered and kept saying how she needed to leave to get her kid from school. Then when we asked for peanut sauce she said that we should have mentioned that earlier and that she didn't have time to get us peanut sauce with our to-go orders... she took our payment but just ran the card without letting us know what she charged, we had to ask her and it was again an inconvenience. I will go where our service is appreciated and this lady obviously had other priorities.

This place has a lousy location in the back of a run-down strip mall behind the Value Village second-hand store, but their food is good. If you want it spicy, they'll make it spicy.

So, we are new to the area. And I saw this place was walking distance to our house so we thought this could turn out great!!! The reviews were mixed on Yelp, but I am adventurous and thought to give it a try. First, yeah, if you are not from around here, very difficult to find. Very small joint with around 10 tables or so. It seems to be a Mom and Pop shop with their young one behind the counter. Must have been a good day compared to other Yelpers experiences!!! Never heard a peep from her. Pop is taking care of the front and Mom cooking. Menu is pretty small by most Thai standards. But it had the usual. We ordered Pad Thai, Pad See Ew, Fried Rice, Curry and noodle soup. The Pop was very polite and attentive. Seemed to me he has never officially waitered before. Just not very polished. Never asked if we wanted anything to drink. We like to eat "Family Style" and it seemed this place is not set up for that? We got served the soup but no bowls for us to share. So we took turns eating it! LOL! The Mom was in the back cooking looking very stressed and not enjoying her work. I love to cook but I could see getting that way if I did it for a living!!! As far as the other dishes go, they were good. Not great. The Pad See Ew was pretty good. As was the fried rice. The Pad Thai was too mushy and too heavy on the peanuts. The Curry was good...a little watery. I ordered it hot. It had a little heat. Should have ordered it extra hot. And the soup was good. Wife thought it was too sweet. Portions are small. This is another reason I thought they are not used to people ordering "Family Style" like most Asian restaurants. We barely had enough food for 4 people where I would order the same entrees at other places and would have enough for another dinner for us. In the end, would I go back...probably. It's close to home!!! But I think there are better places according to Yelp. I gave it three stars for the effort!!! Although far from great, I sense that they are trying!

If you just want good Thai food and you like it spicy, this is a good place to dine. My wife and I visited after hearing about it on yelp. We are both Thai fans and look to try every restaurant in town. This is a mom and pop type of establishment. The mom appeared to be the cook, husband served and the child (3 years old?) visited with guests! It sits back in an old strip mall next to a dance studio. Frankly, it was rather difficult to find hidden in a back corner of the strip mall. The atmosphere is not great...very Springfield. But, this can all be overlooked because the food made up for it. We shared the green curry and asked for the medium-hot version and it delivered. Like the establishment, the presentation lacked any aesthetic. Tiff and I, however, were just looking for good food that evening and we were impressed. It's definitely not a place to go for a romantic date, but if you are in the mood for reasonably priced 'home cooked' Thai, Bai Khao Thai is worth a visit.

I like this place a lot. Their drunken noodle is so good! They are closed quite a bit, and often at random times so it's hard to know when they are open unless you drive over and see for yourself. The people are nice and for the most part their 5 year old daughter does her own thing away from patrons. If you don't like kids very much or a child friendly atmosphere, I don't recommend eating in house, they do to-go orders which is what I mostly do.

  • Valerie A.

This is our favorite place to eat when we are visiting my mother in Springfield. The owners, a young couple, work hard running the restaurant, are very friendly, and always remember my mom's regular order never forgetting she must avoid all peppers. They have nightly specials and usually ask us how spicy we want our food. I always order a curry in the medium spicy range and have NEVER been disappointed. They are constantly trying to improve their interior but honestly, as long as the food is good I would eat there if the walls were bare.

Our favorite Thai restaurant. The drunken noodles are excellent and the curry dishes are the best we have tried. We have tried 3 or 4 different menu items and have never had a bad meal. Someone said the food is too hot, but all you need to do is tell the server that you do not want it hot and would like it mild. They serve it mild, medium or hot. The owner/cook is Thai and her husband is the server. He is a bit quiet but he is friendly and efficient. We love going there and have taken visiting family and friends there on two separate occasions.

  • Mary C.

In my experience, the food was exceptional, the people were friendly and attentive, and the child was really well-behaved while we dined. The food though - it was amazing. Also my brother and I found an injured baby bird in the rain and the owners brought us a cardboard egg carton and a towel for transporting it to the Eugene Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. SO thoughtful of them to go out of their restaurant and out of their way to help!

We like the curries; hubby goes for the masaman, I picked the pumpkin this time. Even at medium spiciness, it's pretty spicy. Good, though, with a lovely scoop of steamed jasmine rice on the side. The chicken satay skewers are very tender, too; the peanut sauce is great and the cucumber salad is very fresh. It's close to our house, so though it's a little hard to spot in the strip mall back from the road, it's a good location for us. Our problems with Bai Khao: Service is a bit on the slow side, and while the owners' young daughter is somewhat charming at first, having her watch our meal, play with our baby's toys (and refuse his requests to have them back), and ask us questions throughout dinner was a little stressful. I think we may start ordering to-go, although if the other customer's experience tonight was anything to go by, there'll still be a wait of approximately 20 minutes. Call ahead, maybe?

  • Nancy S.

Decent flavors but very small serving sizes. You can find comparable (and some better quality ingredients) at kurayas and getting more food for your money. Also has odd hours and stops seating very early

  • Mark S.

Our favorite Thai restaurant also. Pad Thai is the dish I use to evaluate a Thai restaurant. In the local area (Eugene, Springfield, & Cottage Grove) Bai Khao has the most consistent and best flavored Pad Thai we have eaten! Their other dishes are also very tasty, especially the curries. The drunken noodles are my second favorite dish here. Some people may not like the wait, but we have always had prompt service. True, the place is not easy to find, but it is worth looking for and the food tastes better than some I have had in Bankok or Chaing Mai.

  • Derek B.

This is possibly the best Thai food I have had in the area. Definitely worth the effort to find. I ordered the Drunken Noodles which arrived quickly, filled my plate with spicy deliciousness, and left my wallet with plenty of cash. If you like Thai, this place should leave your palette pleased.

Wow... Just wow! I was shocked that this amazing restaurant stands in Springfield, Oregon. My family lives in Springfield and suggested that we go here. I was skeptical, but went along for the ride. We were seated immediately. It was busy, although this place is fairly small so busy meant 8+ people. We were given water right away, and a few minutes to look at the menu. The waitress was very attentive, but not overly attentive. Drunken noodles is a dish I usually try first at a Thai restaurant, and that is exactly what I ordered. My family ordered the glass noodles and the cashew chicken. ALL of the dishes were amazing, especially the cashew chicken that I stole bites of the entire night. The man who served our food (the owner I believe) was extremely kind. Their daughter was running around interacting with the customers, but I thought she was adorable and she wasn't bothering anyone. I think this would be great as another reviewer pointed out, for people who enjoy children and families. I was always running around my families locally owned business when I was a child, just as my parents and grandparents did when they were children, so this didn't bother me at all, in fact I kind of like it! Regardless, the food is amazing, eat in, get it to go, just try it!

Bai Khao is in a bad location, but it's worth the effort to find. Great food cooked as spicy as you like. The Drunken Noodle is certainly a winner! This is one of those cool places you stumble upon that you are glad you did.

  • Killer S.

I'm a little reluctant to downgrade Bai Khao as it was one of my proudest local discoveries for a couple of years. Unfortunately the past few times I've been in I've been a bit underwhelmed. The quality of my staple curry dishes is trending towards mediocre - not bad, mind you, but just a little more watered-down than I prefer and not spicy enough. The prices are still right and the service continues to be good.

    (3)
  • Ari D.

My red curry was watery, a bit too salty, and the small portion did not contain very much meat. While not completely terrible, I'm not inspired to return, seeing as Kuraya has the same prices, much better curry, a wider selection, and far superior ambiance. The nail in Bai Khao's coffin: the water tasted like a swimming pool.

    (2)
  • C F.

The best Thai food I have had. I have been to Thailand and lived in Washington DC and have not found another Thai place that stacks up to this one. Unlike one of the other reviewers, I don't think Kurayas holds a candle to this place. Kurayas used to be my only stop for Thai food until Bai Khao opened, I have not been back to Kurayas (or any other Thai place) since, though. The food is better, the portions are a bit larger, and the bill won't empty your wallet. Highly recommended.
