Have been going to Nara for years. It seems that they can't keep an employee very long and I suspect that is due to the owner, he is very rude and no matter how badly they screw up your older they would never offer that the next time they will replace your meal. The quality of the food seems like it's going out the window as a way of "cutting corners" they are even giving very little rice with the meals now too. Cheap cheap cheap. Don't waste your money at this establishment. Just a side note if you tip in cash to the tip jar the girl at the counter gets to keep tip however if you add a tip to the receipt the owner keeps the money, that in my opinion is NOT RIGHT.

Not a fan! Was given the wrong food for take out, and the salad tasted like commet! Gross! Will not be back!

My wife and I go here a lot. Teriyaki chicken is good and if you buy an extra side of chicken the rice and veggies are enough for 2 no issue. The katsu is great also. The parking is the only downside. They have none.

Good food, plenty of it, affordable. The place looks like crap which probably scares some people away and gets more people to get takeout instead of eating in. I like the choices, the service is very friendly and I think it's a terrific value for the money. I would give it that last star if they would only remodel and make it more pleasant to be in.

For a teriyaki joint, this place is great....plus it's gluten free! Love it! Delicious, well priced, high quality, fast service.

  • Nick M.

Spicy chicken is a wonderful dish. The only suggestion would be little more organized when getting dishes prepared, several occasions when they have lost our ticket, had a 45 min wait. Other than that great tasting meals big portions .

  • Deepak S.

It's our favorite place for takeout teriyaki. Our kids love the chicken teriyaki and we are big fans of the vegetarian yakisoba. Everything is delicious and there is a lot of it.

    (5)
  • Michael C.

The Good: It's tasty teriyaki with big portions and low prices. The Bad: This is Korean style Japanese food, so it lacks finesse. Try: the chicken teriyaki plate. It comes with a lot of chicken, a lot of rice, and a lot of salad with ranch. Don't Try: coming here with a big group because parking and seating are both very limited.

Nara Teriyaki in Newburg is a favorite of mine. Everything that I have eaten here has been fresh and delicious: the teriyaki chicken, gyoza, tempura, spring rolls, egg rolls, bulgogi & yakisoba noodles. The sauces are fantastic! Great food and plenty of it at a fair price. Best in the area. Try it for yourself.

    (5)
  • Brittany C.

One of the most delicious teriyaki places that I have been to! I could eat gyoza and spicy teriyaki all day.

  • Dave C.

Excellent choice for chicken teriyaki. Very generous portions, tender meat and friendly service. Love this place.

Currently closed. Remodeling and upgrading their food cooling system according to the sign in the window. Decent food nothing spectacular but the best in Newberg and a good deal for lunch.

A nice little find. It looks like they do a big take-out business. The dining room is rather sparse. The food however, was great. The teriyaki sauce was full bodied with strong flavor and not overly sugary. The tempura was light and crispy. Service was fast and the prices were very reasonable for the plentiful servings. I will be back.

I've been here a few times and every time has been delicious. The staff always work hard and fast to get food out quickly. I always end up getting the Teriyaki Chicken with Rice & Salad.. it's so good, I can't stop ordering it. I hope to try something else on the menu next time! The only reason it gets four stars is because of the atmosphere.

Worst. Service. Ever. We have eaten here several times and everytime it is delicious HOWEVER...each time takes forever to get your order. Even when I call it in it still takes 10-20 mins LONGER then they say. The poor girl at the front has no idea what she is doing. We asked how long gyozas would be..she blew her cheeks at us....we asked how much longer the order would take..she blew her cheeks at us. This evening we placed an order for spicy pork. After..again waiting 15 more then the original time (making it 35 mins we waited) I got the order home ate some of the salad and a few bites of the meat to find it was chicken. We called and the the person on the other end said cone down and we will sort it out. When we got there he said "why did you eat from it!!" And we said because we didnt realize it was chicken until we had a couple bites. We didnt eat a ton of it..literally 2-3 bites and we were like..oh thats chicken. The gentleman was really un-willing to remake the order until my husband caused a bit of a stink. And even then he wanted us to pay another $1.50 after they screwed up! Unbelievable! ! Needless to say we left with the same screwed order we came in with. We will NEVER give them out business again. Boooo!!!

This place is great for classic chicken teriyaki. Their food has great flavor and the chicken is always very juicy! They have a lot of other options like bulgogi, tempura, katsu and fish but I think a lot of these other options are a little pricy- ranging from $10-14 a plate. Chicken teriyaki is only about $8! And the lunch special is a total steal! Lunch time gets crazy busy though so be warned!

    (4)
  • Jeff T.

The lunch special is outstanding. Teriyaki chicken with rice, salad, and 4 gyoza or an egg roll (depending on the day) for $6.25. The sauce is excellent and the gyoza are a consistent golden brown. The portions are generous; enough for lunch or dinner and a cold snack later when you pull it out of the refrigerator for just one more taste. From the normal menu, I love the spicy chicken. It really is spicy and has a great flavor. The staff is friendly and hurries to complete each order, but Nara gets very busy during the height of lunch or dinner. While the dining room is small and spartanly decorated, they are constantly filling take-out orders. The parking is also very limited. The consistent excellence of the food guarantees that this little restaurant will be around for years and I'm happy to live close by.

  • David W.

We ordered the spicy chicken with a side of gyoza. The gyozas were crispy & delicious. Our chicken was a little bit on the dry side. Next time we would just order the teriyaki chicken. The complementary egg flower soup was really good! We would give this place another try.

Really good food, love that they offer brown rice.

Came here for dinner the other day and was decently impressed. From the outside I wasn't expecting much, but I had an awesome teriyaki, noodles, salad, and soft drink combo for under $10. Definitely a solid hole in the wall kind of place that is worth checking out.

Update if anyone cares: I do not work here anymore. I started having hassles with one of the cooks (the chubbier red headed korean lady) and i just couldnt take any of her shit anymore. She would blame me for her mistakes, get mad at me for stamping too much for you guys, etc, etc. Stupid things that added up and made a big impact on the work environment. People recognize me from there sometimes and wonder where I've been. Mr. Song (owner) made sure to let me know that if i ever needed a job, he would always be glad to have me back. I felt as though that was extremely kind and considerate of him, but that man just does not have the nads to tell that lady to shut her trap and own up to her mistakes, and until he does, i will not be choosing to work there again. Lasted a lot longer than the other cashiers though! I actually havent been back there or gotten food from them since. And its been around a month. You do crave it though. You'd think they put something in it to have that effect. Whatever it is, i want the street name for it.

I thoroughly enjoyed the spicy chicken entrée that I ordered. Sure, the ambiance leaves a lot to be desired, but the portion sizes and the beautifully grilled chicken with sauces that just hit the mark for me have ensured that I will be a return customer. I am writing this review at my workplace in Tigard, two days after eating there for the first time, and I am actually contemplating whether or not I can make it all the way out to Nara in Newberg and back on my lunch hour. Here's hoping!

Awesome teriyaki bowls! Very fast. Totally fresh food. Taste homemade. Call in and just pick up. Good amount of food too

Hit and miss place. I usually get the bul go gi beef and mushroom plate here. First time I had it, it was delicious. A few times after the taste was just ok. A couple of times I didn't get mushrooms with the beef and that was a bummer. The place is tiny, best to have the food togo. Ok place to try.

    (3)
  • Aaron D.

Good food and huge portions....not the best beef....ill go back. Get the peanut sauce...

    (4)
  • Vanessa G.

Your run of the mill teriyaki place. I would go here for my teriyaki fix when I didn't want to drive all the way to wilsonville for my favorite teriyaki . I've had a hard time going back though since I found a black hair in my rice. I get it, hair gets in food. But suddenly I don't crave their teriyaki anymore!

    (3)
  • Austin B.

Absolutely outstanding food! Loved eating here as a child and now that I've moved away, I rarely get the opportunity to delight myself with the food here. The lunch special is a must-have. There is a steady flow of customers around lunch time on weekdays which is proof of the lunch special's spectacular value. For under $7 you can have yourself perfectly cooked chicken, topped with savory Teriyaki sauce, a heaping scoop of white rice, a tasty salad, and a refillable drink cup. Can't get much better than that. If you're looking for good teriyaki in town, look no further!

    (5)
  • Portland P.

Awesome lunch for 5.45! Got a heaping of rice, big salad with dressing, chicken teriyaki, egg roll with sweet and sour AND a drink! Heck of a deal, even for mediocre teriyaki, which this is definitely not! Also had the Gyoza , wow so delicious. Will definitely come back!

    (5)

I go to George Fox and Nara's always makes for a good lunch escape. Their lunch special is reasonably priced and comes with a ton if food and a drink. I've never finished everything!

Great teriyaki. If you're in a rush, call ahead!

    (4)
  • Matt B.

I have lived in Newberg for almost a year now and just realized this place was here. Stopped in for lunch today and got a teriyaki bento. The chicken was really good. The sauce was maybe a tad salty. The girl at the cash register was very nice and chatty and helped explain some of the menu items to me. I will definitely be back to try some other items on the menu.

    (4)
  • Katie M.

Great noodles with huge portions. Horrible atmosphere so plan to take it out! Be sure to try the peanut and sesame sauces in the clear catsup bottles . They have mayo in them which seems kind of gross, but they have really good flavor, and good for those who are dairy free. Veggies aren't organic, but they always seem fresh. They make their own Korean Kimchi too!

    (4)
  • Patrick C.

    Surprisingly good food. Really.

My favorite Japanese restaurant in the Northwest. The teriyaki chicken is amazing. The restaurant is a hole-in-the-wall type of place that is always busy during lunch and dinner.

  • Bryan R.

When I want good sweet meat I go to Nara. The lunch special is definitely the best $5.50 you could spend on food. The Teriyaki Chicken is great, and my favorite thing about Nara is the sauces. I could eat a gallon of their peanut sauce, and probably have. So good! Go!

    (5)
  • Betsy S.

My husband and I stopped by here for lunch on our way to McMinnville. We were a little nervous by it's appearance both on the outside and inside, but the food was FABULOUS and the price was even better! They had a lunch special for $5.75 which came with a large portion of teriyaki chicken, four potstickers, white rice, salad, and soda. I highly recommend their peanut sauce that they have on the counter behind the register. I also got a bowl of miso soup which was "average".
