The food was delicious. We had steak fajitas and chicken enchiladas. The salsa and chips were really good. The waiter was extremely friendly and funny. The atmosphere was quiet. The decor could use some updating and possibly increase in more lights.

Horrible watery salsa! Now I got that out of the way, know that Ixtapa is an old school, two taco, beans and rice kind of place. No fancy ingredients, e.g., shredded Iceberg lettuce on the tacos. Nothing is extraordinary, but it works. What earns it three stars is value as the portions are large. The Huevos Rancheros could have filled two people with small appetites. The base sauce for the Huevos and enchilada dish was meh at best. The chips that complemented to terrible salsa were very good. There's friendly service that seems to cater to old time regulars.

Definitely underrated for a Newberg Mexican Restaurant. I come her quite often for their Margarita specials (their margs are the best), and the food is absolutely great, no different than any other large portioned, quick service mexican place out there, which is exactly what we all love about Mexican places, right? The chips and salsa come fast and come often, and the food satisfies with leftovers to take home. Yelp has shown me that you cannot trust people from out of town who want to compare everything to what they have "where they come from" I have eaten Mexican food all over California from a taco cart, to a hole in the wall, to a $30 meal on the beachfront in San Diego and Im here to tell you, there is no difference.

Ixtapa is the best Mexican Food in Newberg. Our family goes here about once a month, and have never had a bad meal. It is fair to call it a hole in the wall, but that is where I always seem to find the best food. The staff was friendly, the beer was cold and at the end of the day it is a great place to relax in an authentic Mexican atmosphere.

As a Californian I'm always on the hunt for good Mexican food in Oregon. So far Ixtapa has my vote for best in Newberg. The waiters are very friendly & the food is always good.

when coming back from our weekend in the OR wine country, hubby and I happened upon this little hole in the wall mexican joint. a little skeered cuz it didn't have the fanciest of facades ... and very much more in the mood for a "sammich" (direct quote) ... we were pleasantly surprised. Ixtapa was very authentic. I ordered the Burrito Espinaca which was filled with yummy veggies and smothered in a yummy green tomatilla sauce and lots of cheese. Hubby ordered the cheese enchiladas - also yummy ... and very cheesy. I would recommend this to a friend and would definitely stop in again. The salsa ... homemade and fresh. Yumm!

Nice. Pollo asado burrito was excellent. Guacamole was just ok. This was a nice place and they have good lunch specials. The chips and salsa were good. I would come back. Nice decor. There is a private room in back. Full bar and unique margarita selection. The chips were five stars. Salsa was good. Service was friendly and quick.

Yikes. How can the natives pass this as Mexican food? The chips..... were chips. The salsa.... was tomato water with occasional pieces of tomato and other mystery bits. No taste of onion or cilantro. Actually, no taste at all. Then came the "chile relleno". Why in quotes? It was a few pieces of chile hidden inside some sort of tasteless omelet mixture. No cheese (that could be detected), no breading no bueno. It was down right awful. The beef fajitas were floating in oil, onions and peppers. Gag. Never again.

I am from Texas and familiar with really good Mexican food. This is Nasty!!! The food is cheap, watered down, fatty and of poor overall quality. I have been eating Mexican food for decades and refuse to eat here. It tastes like Mexican food being cook by blind Pakistanis. Sorry for the terrible example. Save your money and make the trip into Portland for some average Mexican food. Eat here only if starvation is the only other alternative. :)

Good chips and salsa, however the food was bland. As I was eating lunch, I did observe one of the staff take a spoon out of his coffee dip it in a water pitcher full of what seemed to be sugar where other stuff was stored, and stirred it in his coffee and keep drinking. Ewwww.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
