This review is from the Karaoke Nerds ! We go out of our way to visit karaoke places throughout the Portland Metro area. Karaoke here is Friday and Saturday nights. This is a little off the beaten path for us, but our friends just moved to estacada so we were ISO a 1/2 way point between our house and theirs. High Rocks Located behind the Harley Davidson, Subway, and kitty cornered from the holiday inn express. This place is a blast from the past with their country retro lounge decor. It was a seat yourself situation when we arrived at 9.P.M. Patrons were mostly mature age range of 35-95. Which is just fine in my book. Karaoke 4.0 Stars. Karaoke is located in a corner of the bar. The KJ did a great job balancing sound for the space. I was able to talk to my friends easily across the table and I didn't have to yell at the waitstaff to place my order. High Rocks does not have a stage area, there is no special lighting. It is a basic setup done really well. KJ was friendly and was an awesome singer as well. He did not have any long dance/song breaks which is fantastic in my book. Singers for this saturday night 5-7 in rotation. KJ has a great song selection with some surprises like The Smiths, Joy Division, etc. Perfect! 5.0 Bartender pours balanced beverages and they have a few good beers. Table service was basic/good. They checked back often. Could stand to be a little more upbeat and flash a smile. Food 3.5 star. Basic. About 30-45 min for our order to come out. I am not sure they know what to do with a veggie burger. We will prob order something else next time. It was not browned. Tater tots were perfectly cooked. I would skip the side salad. It was nothing but white Iceberg. Prime rib sandwich was interesting. I think they might have substituted a different cut of beef for the prime rib. Maybe the flat iron. Maybe they ran out because of the party. It was still ok I would order it again. They didn't ask me how I wanted the flat iron cooked. French Dip my friend had said it was good but it needed to be on a french roll. They were pretty busy right before we came in the door. The banquet room was full of patrons for a birthday party. I would imagine that they would have built in audience with the hotel across the parking lot. A hidden gem for karaoke that is off the beaten path. We liked it and we would come here again and bring friends and give the menu another shot. This was our first time here so I may add an update in a couple of months. Cheers! Sing on!

Love, love, love the nachos!! Its huge and can feed at least 4. Its kind of a funky restaurant, décor wise. Like stepping back in time but Im not sure which era you'd end up in. Servers are very friendly and helpful. Margaritas were great too!!

They have great priced cocktails here...but the food isn't that great. They are right down the street from me, and I've lived here for almost 4 years now ,and have only been there a couple of times. Isn't my scene, but like I said, a good place for inexpensive drinks. No frills and right near the river too! :)

I enjoyed a decent taco salad with ground beef and refried beans. Decent portion, tasty shell and fair price. Menu is typical bar fair at reasonable prices. Service was slow due to a luncheon in the banquet room. Not bad but not going to rave either.

"where everybody knows your name".... comes to mind for me High Rocks is really a decent place - no better or worse than any other bar that heavily favors locals in a kind of "off the beaten track" area. High Rocks is right next to 205, in a fairly "strip mall" area. If you don't know it's here, you don't know it's here! Sometimes that's a bad thing, but sometimes it's a good thing. In this case, it's a very good thing. If you're not a local, you might get a few looks and stares - "who's that? Do I know him?" But ya know... in my book if the "vibe is there" that's actually kinda cool! Why? Loyal locals are what keep cool old bars like this afloat. I'm here one night a month - many of the other folks are here every day or every week. And there's no question that the locals are what makes this place's heartbeat tick. Take a breath - note that you're not in a trendy hotspot - and notice Waitress Lynn and Waitress Lori hand out hugs and well-wishes as local friends, regulars, and such folks filter in and out. Think about the "mainstream" bars and restaurants and to me that's what sets a place like this apart from them.... in a pretty big way. The only reason it's not a 5 star review is the food. Don't get me wrong - I've seen the burgers, fries and pizzas - they look GREAT! But I don't eat that sort of stuff anymore. It would be really nice if they'd add a little more variety with more quality selections - it's "High Rocks Restaurant" - not "Bar and Grill". Please add some FISH dishes (baked, not fried!!), more chicken options (baked, grilled, not fried!!), more salad options (grilled chicken in addition to "crispy" (fried)) and so on - a menu more fitting a "restaurant" as the title suggests, not so much a "really big bar menu" This is a nice place - very friendly - just don't expect more than it offers and enjoy all the good things that it does. If your mind is open, you don't have to look far. This is the "Cheers of Portland" to me. I really like the local vibe - it works. Dave

Great Prime Rib. Very fast service. Joyce was our server and very nice. Interior looks like you walked back to around 1974 but it adds to the charm. Enjoyed my visit.

Stopped in last night on a Sunday to find a pretty laid back atmosphere, the bartender was super attentive and when I got a Two Towns cider that ran out after about filling 80% of the glass she charged me just for a beer back when in all reality it was basically full! That's the kind of stuff I like, when a bar dosen't screw over or try and piss off a newbie! All the people seemed to be regulars and why wouldn't you! Didn't get a chance to try the grub but everything coming out looked great! Will give a better review after Friday's Karaoke night!

Consistently good grub and friendly service. I always get a cup of the day's soup. Varies according to chef's whim but always delicious. Sandwiches are reasonably priced and generously portioned; tasty, too.

Horrible food! horrible service! They have their employees sign up for Yelp accounts to send messages to people who give them bad reviews. Or maybe that was the tasteless owner. Pathetic.

I've been coming here since it opened in the '80's. I've seen it change hands a couple of times, I've seen several menu changes and the food has stayed, for the most part pretty good for bar food. They have a few steaks on the menu, a decent burger lineup, very good fish and chips and many good sandwiches. The waitresses are a cut above in friendly and attentive service and I never have a long wait for anything. The best change here was no doubt the state forcing them to go smokeless, the cigarette smoke there was oppressive and the main reason I avoided it, I go there more often now and don't feel the need to wash my clothes and take a shower after going there like I used to.

Elaine and her crew (many been there 10 years plus) takes care of your events with care. We had a reunion/fund raiser and they were over the top. Everyone felt welcome, she had extra help to make sure everyone had good service. Quite a few of us met there the night before and were treated like royalty. The night of the event many people stayed at the hotel across the parking lot so we stayed till close, and again treated and served well. Elaine was very helpful in putting the event together and making sure it ran smoothly, I would HIGHLY recommend them for any and all events. They care about you and your business not just making a buck.

I went here this evening with my husband's family for the first time and never will go again. There is no one to seat you when you show up. The waitress then takes 10 minutes just to acknowledge that you exist. Next, she only brings menus for half of your party. Then she comes back 10 minutes later to ask you what you'd like to drink. You wait ANOTHER 10 minutes for your drinks even though you are sitting in the bar. Then you place your orders. The food then arrives 45 minutes later.....COLD! The only decent thing that showed up at our table was a turkey sandwich......I've never heard of anyone really screwing up a turkey sandwich!
