Normally a good place to eat, this time it looked as if they can't handle crowds. Several tables were full and there were 2 folks waiting for to-go orders. Ordered the seafood combo, waited almost a half hour. They should put a TV in the place for people who are waiting. The combo, for $14.99, was OK but not worth almost 15 bucks. Two small fish pieces, two prawns, three clams and some other small bits. Looked in the kitchen while waiting and, quite honestly, looked a bit dirty. Also would be nice if they took American Express ... there are tons of travelers who use their CostCo Amex card all summer long to wrack up points. We'll give them a try again, in the past they've normally been pretty good. Maybe this was a one time off night.

Breakfast was great. We asked for fried eggs, no runny whites in the eggs, hash brown extra crispy, and bacon. Every thing was perfect. Coffee was filled often, tables were clean. The cook and waitress came by to see if everything was okay. The quality of the food was good, bacon was thick, eggs were large or maybe even extra large, hash browns were fresh, mushy.

Everytime we order burgers and fries from Chetco Seafood, They always seem to get the order wrong in one way or another. EVERY TIME. We finally stopped going there.

A local, independently owned, seafood company with a small restaurant. inside their retail store. I'm a sucker for crab & shrimp cocktails and Chetco has never let me down. Plentiful portions, pleasant people, hot coffee on a cold day and ice cold lemonade on a hot day. There is nothing fancy here, you can tell it is family owned and that the main family business is fishing, not "restauranting". The place might appear a little shabby but, in reality, it's not too shabby at all!

Once again, due to my upbringing of 'if you cannot say something nice about someone or something, don't say nothing'. I'm definately not saying anything.

We wandered into this place while staying in a local hotel. It seemed to be the place most people were going based on the car traffic. Once inside it seems kind of shabby with it's seating area and service. The meal was good but could have been better. Portions seemed a bit on the small side and overall taste was a bit bland. The meal left us a bit underwelmed. Perhaps this is a one time fluke but it didn't really hit the spot for us.

The new manager at Chetco Seafood is awesome and the new manager really takes pride in the his job. We got fish and chips with a side of butterfly shrimp. The fish was super fresh and flaky and the breading is house made. The butterfly shrimp is also really fresh with awesome breading! At first we miss understood the menu and ended up with popcorn shrimp and when we mentioned it to the manager he gifted us the butterfly shrimp we wanted. Their cole slaw was also amazing!! I would have to say the best fish and chips I have ever had and at the beat prices I have ever seen! The only complaint I could even think of is that the bathrooms could have been a little cleaner, but the food was so amazing I can overlook a dirty bathroom.

This was awful. Unfriendly service, bad food, confused orders. We are visiting and were hoping for fresh sea food with this place right on the coast and all. Insted we got fried frozen food we would expect in a crappy sea food place in the middle Iowa. Terrible

This was the second time we've eaten there. The first time had slow service and marginal seafood. I've had better chowder out of a can and "Paul's" fishsticks were superior to their's. The second time, July 19th, it took a full hour to get our food. The most tasteless fish and chips I've ever had. I've had bigger piles of fries almost anywhere else; after all, they're cheap. The wait staff was nearly absent. The "cook" went to the bathroom ( filthy bathrooms too) wearing his apron then came out wiping his hands on his apron. At times it's good for buying oysters in the shell but don't bother eating there.

Small local restaurant - people working are nice, menu is written on paper and you self-seat. It's not fancy, very run of the mill fish shacks. I had the fish and chips, potatoes were a little greasy but I like them that way. Wife had clam strips - which she loved them, said some of the best she's had. Mom had scallops, which are deep fried and very small. Flavor was nice - tasted fresh and good texture. All plates for lunch had slaw, which was bland but fresh. Overall not bad, but set expectations that this is a local eatery and the focus on food versus looks. Bathrooms were clean but could use paint.

I went here with my family to get some clam chowder. We ordered chowder and french fries. Got the fries and they were absolutely delicious. The chowder, on the other hand, was absolutely the worst chowder we have ever had - all of us. I went to the counter and tried to quietly explain that the chowder was not up to par. The girl behind the counter grabbed a spoon and put in in the pot of chowder, tasted it, and then let me know that it tasted great to her palate. I politely stated that we didn't care for it and would like our money back. She went back to the cook who said she would refund us. We waited around awhile for the refund as she was busy with another order, but in the end, we did get our money back. Pros- French fries. The customer service or the cook. The refund. Cons- clam chowder. The customer service of the clerk.

I don't wield a one star review lightly. That said, $29.00 later the food we ordered was placed, 90% uneaten, back in the to-go bag in which it came. It was then left in front of the dumpster behind the restaurant. This was truly bad food, headlined by the clam chowder which, I'll bet money, came out of a can. The fish tacos, fish & chips and the fries were all truly, truly bad.

There were 2 waitresses the older of the two was really nice, the younger one acted like I was bothering her. When I'd go up to the counter for utensils she said "what do you want now?" She talked about customers sitting outside. Not a people person. The food was okay.

We bought seafood here and ate in the restaurant last summer. I always intended to write a review, because we liked it so much, but I am just getting around to it now. The fresh fish we bought was among the best we have ever had. The fish tacos we ate in the restaurant were wholesome, well prepared, and delicious. This place isn't fancy, but the prices are reasonable and the food is great!

There's no way that Chetco Seafood Company is a 2 stars! NO WAY! This place is indeed a 4-star place! Here are the reasons: (1) Mind Blowing Oyster, plus it's hella cheap! Get 50 for 50 bucks - fresh off the sea! You can't beat that! 5 stars. (2) Creamy, flavorful calm chowder! Dine-in must get! Delicious! Creamy, milky, and spics of calm and scallops. Indeed, a 5 star. (3) Cool seafood market: Although small, but it's pretty cute. There's variety of fish and meats, but I think the best part are the oysters - a deal steal! 1 dollar a piece. 4 stars. (4) Dine-in: Okay guys, I know it's not a fancy restaurant, but it's a cute little restaurant, must a mention - family owned? Support the locals! 5 stars. (5) Service: Service is slow when they get busy, sometimes servers get a little confused which table the food belongs to, but other than that service is a 4 star. (6) Seriously, Kudos to family-owned restaurants. 5 stars. **OVERALL: 4 stars to the deal-steal oysters!

Hands down the worst customer service I have ever experienced! We went in and a man standing around in a completely empty restaurant stood there smiling at the seafood market in the back. I got his attention and asked if we can just sit anywhere. He said "sure,no problem".I said "cool, we will be outside". So we went outside & waited and waited. So,eventually my husband went and got menus. We decided and my husband went to get waiter. They come out and server looks at me and says "the menus stay inside" My husband being the nice guy he is nodded his head and said okay. Then the server began to school us on how to order, which makes no sense why he didn't mention you order first when I said we are sitting outside. Then he told us there was no dining permitted outside (which makes no sense, there was ketchup s&p on tables). So I asked him why are there tables outside. He said "people eat here, but this isn't France". Yes he actually said that! He said plates are not permitted outside.so I said "is our food going to be to-go". He said "this isn't France or Italy ,your food will be on plates but not fancy ones". I was so annoyed and shocked at the stupidity of the server we went somewhere else. Don't waste your time or money!!!

I have been seeking the perfect clam chowder, try one everywhere I eat. Chetco's chowder I have to rank no better than third, possibly fourth. Service is good and what is great is that they have a little fresh fish market in a back room fronted by clear glass sliding doors. If for this little fish market alone, I would rate it 5 stars! I have purchased freshly caught fish there 3 times in the past 2 weeks. The man behind the counter is a fountain of fish information and honestly answers all questions without exageration. Not all their fish is local fresh but he will tell you exactly where it is from or how to prepare it. They also have a smoked fish case, all locally smoked. Back to the restaurant, I had salmon and chips, but the salmon was a bit overcooked and dry and the fries were just fair. Since this is one business with 2 entities, they get a combined average score of 3 1/2 stars. Will return to buy raw fish, not cooked stuff in the front of the shop.

If you're allergic to seafood/shellfish be sure to tell your server as they print on their menus since all their deep fried fare is cooked in the same oil. We ordered the fried salmon and chips, clam chowder in a bread bowl, and a mushroom/swiss burger. The burger was great, fries were okay. The person who had the chowder loved the bread but wasn't thrilled with the soup itself saying it wasn't very flavorful. The one who had salmon said frying it ruined the flavor and it was too heavy and greasy. The prices were steep, the service was just okay. Personally I don't think we'll return if we are passing through again, we'll probably try one of the many other restaurants on Lower Harbor.

I was shopping at the fish market in back, so I can't comment on the restaurant. It was late in the day, but the market had lots of fresh oysters, salmon, ling cod, and local rock fish. Since I've had everything else, I decided to try the local rock fish. Brought it home and fried it up in some coconut oil. It was really, really fresh, moist, and very delicate. If I lived closer, I'd be in there buying fish every other day! Very nice man (Ken) behind the counter. They smoke their own fish, too, which is available. It's the only fresh local fish market in town, so please keep them in business. I'll try the restaurant next time, too and give a review. I think they are independently operated.

I had been here once before with my Grandfather, but after coming back with my family I do not think I will return. We decided to try lunch there and ate in the dining area. Generally smelled like a toilet while sitting there, which reminds me perhaps of being in the galley of a boat, but this is trying to be a restaurant and not a ship. Had a few cups of clam chowder and chowder in a bread bowl from me. The bread was from a local bakery, which I like to support, but that was about the only good part of the meal. Chowder itself was tasteless and had no flavor even though I could see clam and potatoes in it. We also had a small shrimp cocktail, which was basic but pretty good. I could have made my own shrimp cocktail at home though using frozen bay shrimp and some sauce for about $2 though. Oh, and I went to explore the "fish market" in the back, but it's a waste of time. Someone was at the scales and pretending to do something but barely bothered to even say hello. Most of what they had in the case was packaged and seasoned fish, like cilantro-lime or other seasonings. They had perhaps 2-3 pieces of other fresh fish but that was all. Most of the case was just empty. I would expect a lot more from a fish market with access to commercial boats and seafood distributors. Oh, and someone posted a review about $1 oysters if bought in bulk... is that good for the area? I'm not a huge fan of oysters anyway, but we've had them on the bbq for work parties in the past and I could always drive over to the coast and buy them for $1 or less from oyster farms fresh out of their cleaning/purging baths. For me that price is about typical for very fresh oysters bought by the sack.

Fish Market Only; I've never had an opportunity to eat at the restaurant in the front. If you are picky about fresh fish, smoked fish, good service, and like buying from an experienced business owner, then the Chetco Seafood MARKET is the place to go! I am very selective! We had the best Halibut money can buy for dinner tonight. We grilled it on our tiny, gas, Weber. We also had Ken's smoked salmon for an appetizer. If you understand the process for smoking fish then you also know it's an art to get it right. Fresh, not at all fishy, sweet, savory, melt in your mouth smoked to perfection. They will also smoke the fish YOU catch! We have made this our go to place whenever we're in town. Remember, true fish Markets won't have all selections, every moment, of every day; hence the word "Fresh"! Call ahead to make sure they have what you need. We like dropping by to ask our questions and to take in local culture. I'm trying to figure a way to give Ken's smoked fish as Christmas gifts. Seriously, as good as it gets!
