Good... soup and salad were wonderful... main courses were good, not great... my wife had the Chicken Marsala and I had the Surf and Turf... they were out of shrimp so they substituted scallops instead... scallops were cooked perfectly... steak was over cooked.... all in all it was I nice dining experience... the surrounding art was fun to look at...

Fabulous place to eat, an upscale dinner out without the upscale prices. I stayed in Crescent city CA and there was no fine dinning establishments so we ventured over the border to Oregon, 20 minutes and was thoroughly impressed. I consider myself somewhat of a foodie and I would highly recommend you check this place out. Enjoy! And your welcome.

Very good food and great service. Just be prepared to spend $25-35 per dish. Glad I went.

Innovative delicious menu, food presented beautifully. Definitely the most gourmet restaurant in Brookings. Popular so completely full from 6:30 pm till about 8 pm, then half empty due to quite senior population in this town who don't dine late. Service very slow with only two waitresses serving both upstairs and downstairs clientelle. The owners should hire at least one more waiter or waitress to improve the service. Live keyboard music was played but extremely old-fashioned boring elevator style. We will definitely come back when we return to Brookings because we are both foodies but we hope some of the problems I mentioned here are improved.

What is with Brookings-Harbor and their wealth of great places to eat? Stumbled into this cute bistro for lunch and had one of the best meals ever. The beef sandwich was absolutely amazing. Same for the clam chowder. Everything here is made fresh and the chef certainly knows her way around a kitchen. Also known as "Snug" Terrific meal and our waitress was a hoot! Can't wait to return for dinner.

Really worth a visit. Great range on the menu with a balance of meat, fish and not. The building is a surprise once you get below street level. The seating in intimate and the service we had was good. Food was very good and the prices not unreasonable. The art is something you can get up and check out while waiting to be seated or served; some great pieces by local folks are on display for purchase. This is a place I'd be glad to eat at again, and again....

Having just retired to Brookings, I asked my Real Estate Broker, Ann MacLean, for a restaurant to take my wife, Pam, for our 45th anniversary. Thank you Ann for the great recommendation to go to the Art Alley Grille. It is a small restaurant with a very nice ambiance. I sat next to the piano player and the music was very enjoyable, and never interfered with our conversation. We started our dinner off with the Steamed Clams served in a cream sauce. Wow! What a start to a great meal. Dinner includes soup, we chose the vegetable beef, house salad with a champagne vinaigrette dressing, and a hot bread basket. For our entrees, I chose the Rack of Lamb. It was one of the best I have ever enjoyed. Cooked to perfection with just the right amount of spice, and served with a special mint sauce created by the chef. Tender, juicy, and a very generous portion. Pam chose the shoulder cut filet and it met it's description. It was exceptionally tender, served exactly as ordered, and just like the lamb, spiced perfectly. As a side dish, we both chose the Risotto. I would love to be able to cook risotto with the same results as we were served. It was excellent. For dessert we shared their flourless chocolate cake served with berries and whipped cream. It was delicious. I highly recommend the Art Alley Grille. Everyone treated us like we were guests in their home. Friendly, helpful, and attentive at all times. We are looking forward to our next visit.

This review is "relative". I am rating it based on other restaurants on the Oregon Coast and with that in mind, it was a nice experience. The restaurant is in the bottom floor of an art gallery and is relatively small--maybe 10 tables. The decor is a fun stucco, plank floor, and exposed ceiling style and feels cozy. Local artist works are on the walls. The food was prepared quite well and the main course was plated nicely. My meal was beef filet, pan seared scallops, and garlic mashed potatoes preceded by clamshell chowder, salad, and bread. The salad and clam chowder was slightly above average but the main course was quite good. My beef filet was ordered medium rare and was *slightly* closer to medium but the quality of the meat was better than average and it was properly seared. The scallops were presented on top of the meat and all had a very mild hollandaise sauce that frankly, was closer to a bearnaise sauce...which I love. Scallops were perfectly pan seared. Dessert was bread pudding with a whiskey cream topping. About average but the whiskey cream was a nice touch. The server was very attentive and there was nice live keyboard music to help set the mood. If there is a criticism, it would be the other server who was overly loud and missed the mood by a wide mark. Overall, a quality experience!

We thought the food was really good, but the atmosphere was uncomfortable to say the least. Looking forward to their new location opening soon, I'm sure it'll be great!

Quite an interesting Bistro; Great Fare. While touring the Pacific coast, we were on our last leg of our adventure when my wife noted the Art Alley Grille while we drove south on Coastal Hwy 101 through Brookings Oregon. With reservations in hand one evening, we dined at the Grille. Entering from the street, you first pass through a store front of sorts, devoid of any activity. (Local artists display their craft here and it's for sale.) You then find a stair which leads you down to the actual restaurant. Once at this level, the area is somewhat transformed into a Casba-type grotto with seating spaced close together. We lucked out with being given a corner sofa-like arrangement facing an older gentleman playing an electric piano (softly). My wife ordered her FAV, a risotto dish she loved! I, the rack of lamb which was the best rack of lamb I have ever enjoyed!; a double rack of succulent tender ribs bursting with flavor! (I did start off with their clam chowder which was very very good.) I doubt that we will be able to repeat this journey since we reside in NJ, yet we will have fond memories of Art Alley Grille. (I thought it somewhat odd that the gentleman had a cup for "tips" on his piano; this, in my opinion, downplayed the classy nature of the Grille.)

Very mediocre food for very expensive prices. The place is quaint and the service was excellent but the food just wasn't that good.

Very nice little bistro. Really enjoyed the atmosphere and service. Our server, Angela, was very personable and made the meal a lot of fun. The food was good. We were skeptical of the gluten free clam chowder, but we were pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed the seared Ahi. Nicely served on a bed of Sea weeds. Only complaint was that the bread pudding was a little 'eggy' and could use a little more whiskey in the sauce. The golden raisins were a nice addition though. Nice restaurant, I would definitely go back.

I'm a vegetarian and a very picky eater so it's a big compliment if I like a restaurant. They accommodated me nicely: I got a baked sweet potato and the pumpkin curry soup with a side salad. All delicious and my husband got fillet mignon which he loved. After reading the reviews I regret not ordering dessert as I didn't know they have flourless chocolate cake; I need to get this next time.

Awesome lunch! We loved the chowder, meat loaf sandwich (super good flavor), and BLTA. The desserts were SO GOOD! Bread pudding and flour less chocolate cake with Ganache!

This place is charming. I went here with a couple of friends for lunch. I had carrot soup, and salad. They were excellent. The others had tacos, and they liked them very much. I loved the ambiance with all the art work. I will be back for dinner!!

Wow what can be said about this small place. If you walk in the front door it is not too impressive, but go down to the restaurant and it is quant, relaxing and the service is wonderful. Food is to die for. We had the steak and it was perfect. Will go back again without any doubt.

This place is very nice for a quiet romantic date. Very small so reservations advised. Food is pricier than some other cool places in Brookings but very good. Wine choices are good and reasonable. Friendly staff and nice background musician.

This is one of our favorite restaurants in town. A little pricey but well worth it. I am never dissapointed. It has great ambiance but is still Curry casual. If you are a chocolate lover, do not skip dessert~ order the flourless chocolate cake!!!!

I had never heard of this place before, and I spend a lot of time in Brookings (not a resident). It is a bit hard to find (Art Alley parallels Chetco Avenue for only one block). Cons: Small, no views outside. Pros: Really good food. Fresh food and prepared well. There are also quite a few menu choices (seafood, pasta, meat dishes, etc). I had crab-stuffed sole, and my wife and salmon (really good) with a sweet chipotle sauce. Our entrees and sides were great, and I would go back (great for a special date). If you are looking for a really good meal in Brookngs, then this is it.

I went here for the wedding rehearsal dinner for my friend and the service was awful. They printed the menu totally wrong and acted upset every time someone asked for something. I understand waiting on a large party is difficult, I've been there, but it is offensive to act so rude to someone who doesn't deserve it! Thumbs down, don't go here.

A hidden gem!!! An easy five stars. What an unexpected treat. After a day of driving we were looking for a dinner to take back to our room and settle in for the evening. I pulled out my list of Yelp bookmarks and tracked down The Art Galley Grill. I entered through the gallery entrance on Chetco avenue and must have had a blank look as a lady looked at me and smiled "the restaurant is downstairs". I headed into a small room with tables reserved for private parties and down a narrow stairwell and entered a charming small restaurant. I asked if they did "to go" orders and was told yes. Unable to make a choice for my wife I asked if I could take a menu out to her int he car, no problem. Then I asked if I could get her a small sample of their au gratin potatoes, they sent me back to the car with a small glass ramekin and a fork. SOLD. Meal: Bread, wheat and french, warm with butter Green salad with an Asian vinaigrette Filet Mignon with a mushroom reduction Au Gratin potatoes Zucchini All prepared absolutely perfect. Oh yeah, an 8 oz. filet (that looked more like 12 ounces) and everything else was only $25.00!!! This was a pleasurable start to our four days in Brookings. My only wish would have been a wider selection of salad dressings and another soup choice. The only dressings were blue cheese (which my wife is allergic too) and an the Asian vinaigrette from their lunch menu. The soup as would be expected was clam chowder which is not my favorite, I love it when great little bistros have a unique soup offering. We'll be back over and over I'm sure.

The best clam chowder. The Asian, bacon wrapped tuna. Oh my, so good. Service was great. Wonderful music. They make it special.

We had a large party and the food was sub standard. Started with salads with no dressing delivered, then onto meat over cooked and how does one dry out a steak that is MR? Rack of lamb was tastless, Scallops were seared on 1 side ( Ramsey would send them back LOL) The garlic mashed potatoes were like paste. I expected more for the $$$.

There doesn't seem to be much in the way of awe-inspiring cuisine here in Brookings, but the Art Alley Grill is very solid. You enter through an art gallery on the ground level, and then go down the stairs to the restaurant itself (although there is an area on the ground level available also). The fare was tasty and filling, and is probably the best option in the area for a decent meal. Dinner comes with a bit of soup (very nice), some salad, and warm bread. For most meals, I'm usually very good at remembering what I ordered (and this was less than a week ago) but for the life of me, I cannot recall what I ordered =) I know that I ordered a couple of appetizers as my main dish, and had no complaints, but they simply did not lodge in my brain. All in all, a good place, and one I would recommend to other yelpers.

My parents have lived in this area for over a decade, and whenever I come to visit we usually hit two to three restaurants during my stay. Call me spoiled, jaded, or whatever (I've lived in LA for over 20 years and have been privileged to dine thanks to my expense account at some of the best restaurants all over North America), but in my opinion there really aren't many decent places to eat in the Brookings area, let alone great ones. This one is a great one. Not only is Art Alley Grill by far the best dining experience I've had in the Brookings area in the ten years I've been visiting, it rivals some far more expensive and well-known spots in LA and the Bay Area. On our visit we all had pretty diverse dishes (beef, lamb, and seafood risotto) and we all agreed every entree was exceptional and the best of each we'd had in recent memory. You can tell the ingredients were all fresh and that the chef (and co-owner) takes great pride in the quality of the food. The prices are all reasonable, and while not the cheapest in town for this level of restaurant the food is light years better than a half-dozen spots locally that charge far more for pretty average-to-poor meals of mostly greasy fried crap. [Nautical Inn & O'Hollerans: are you listening?] The service here is exceptional as well. All servers pitched in to service our table (as should be the case in any top-notch restaurant), and while the servers were all professional they were also homey and warm, which you would expect in a small town like this but you rarely see in a restaurant of this caliber. And for the servers here nothing is set in stone. I personally ordered something not on the menu (but recommended by our server based on my tastes). My mother got a dressing for her salad that also wasn't on the menu. If you want something just ask, and I suspect if they can accommodate you they will. This is the way a fine dining restaurant is SUPPOSED to be. Since no place is perfect, I should mention the things that some might see as negatives about the place: it's tough to find, in the basement of an art gallery, entrance and parking in an alley, no windows in the dining area, only open Wed.-Sat. So if you are just passing through Brookings on your way up the Oregon coast and would prefer to sit at a window with an ocean view even if the food is overpriced and mediocre, this place might not be your best choice. But if you're in the area for at least a few days and really want to be wowed by a meal you would never believe you could have in such a small town, I highly recommend a dinner at the Art Alley Grill.

Gourmet Vegan friendly option in Brookings! My husband and I have been coming here for the past few years and I should've written a review sooner. The atmosphere is cozy and romantic. The main reason I am reviewing is to let other vegans know that the chef prepares a delicious, unique vegan meal for me every time. They are very friendly and accommodating, if you just call ahead to give them notice to prepare. I look forward to the surprise fresh, gourmet dish each time. One example was a stuffed portobello mushroom with various vegetables and beans in a delicious sauce, topped with pomegranate seeds. He also prepares wonderful vegan risotto and couscous dishes. Thank you Art Alley Grille!

We chose The Art Alley Grille for dinner based on Yelp reviews and it did not disappoint. Hub had his fave, sirloin steak, charred on the outside and medium-rare inside and they did a good job on that--not everyplace does. I had one of the evening's specials--seared halibut covered with golden panko, served on a bed of hollandaise. It was delicious. Entrees come with a cup of soup and a small salad; the soup was clam chowder and the salad was mixed greens with additions like beets and carrots, plus a bleu cheese vinaigrette. Soup and salad were delish. We asked for dessert to go...bread pudding with whiskey sauce for hub and flourless chocolate cake with mixed berries and whipped cream for me. What a great ending to a good, good meal. We enjoyed strolling through the art gallery upstairs after our meal. We'd haunt this restaurant constantly if we lived here. :)

Excellent food, service, atmosphere, music. Highly reccomend!!! I had the crusted halibut and my fiance had the rack of lamb....best halibut and rack of lamb we have ever had!!!!! Personable servers, low lit, beautiful art work, great pianist. Don't miss!

Great food. Each dish comes out looking like the cook actually cared about it, which is unusual these days. Best steamed clam appetizer. Creamy sauce, wonderful garlic bread for dipping. Wine list is ok - could be better.

Easily the top restaurant for dinner in the area. Great atmosphere and even better food and service. I recommend making a reservation and try the creme brûlée for dessert. As far as main courses go, my wife loved the pasta dish with shrimp and I loved the mixed grill. It had filet, pork and lamb you just can't go wrong here.

Art Alley grill just happened to be @ 50 paces from our hotel. What a gem of a restaurant this is. Read the detailed reviews before mine. They say it best. Well worth 5 Stars easy. Angela our waitress was the best. Food and wine were 5 star quality at $$ pricing... awesome find ..simply could not be happier...thank you to the prolific reviewers who took the time to write more detailed reviews than I am capable of on this smart phone... AWESOME!!!

Ordered NY steak medium came out black and blue (extremely rare). Sent it back, still rare, sent it back again, came back burned. Lost my appetite. At least they took it off the bill. Ugh! My boyfriend had the salmon and enjoyed it. Don't get the steak unless you like it rare!

We loved this restaurant. Our family visited the Art Alley Grille last month for dinner. The ambiance was wonderful and the food was delicous. The place is small but the portions are HUGE. We would definitely come back again!

My good friend Elmo Williams at 97 and a retired Oscar Winning movie producer who has a real nose for good food, suggested that we go there for our anniversary. He was right. Jim had scallops to die for and I had the lamb. Both were fairly priced while tasting like high dollar choices in San Francisco. Our waitress was like having your best friend serving you with witty engaging conversation and good service. It is a bit hard to find the place if you aren't a resident of Brookings. You can enter the grill either on Art Alley or from a front door of an Art Gallery on Chetco Ave with stairs leading down to the grill. Bring money as they weren't taking credit cards when we were there.

Wonderful place! My husband said it was the best lamb he had ever eaten. Everything was excellent, and at a very reasonable price. One more reason to spend more time at the beach.

This is the best in Brookings. Maybe a little spendy, but worth every penny. Gourmet Food. They have not been open a year, so I hope they make it. They are located slightly south of the main part of town on the west side of 101. Look for the dolphins on the roof-they are in the basement of that building with the main entrance in the back of the building in the alley. You will love this restaurant.

Not the easiest restaraunt to find but, when you do you will come back time & time again. Only open Wed-Sat, booking in advance is the best way to make sure you will get a table because there is not very many of them & once your seated there is no rush to get you out. The food is well cooked & plenty of it. my wife loves the seared tuna starter & the lamb for me is exceptional, both of these are on the 'main menu'. The special menu seems to change weekly & the prime rib on Fri & Sat is well worth the trip. You get both soup & salad, normally your asked if you want more of both, which you can have at no extra charge. The entree's are not overpriced like some of the other dining places in town & the service is with out a doubt the best in Brooking's for a dinner restaraunt. The Art Alley Grill is our favorite spot for birthday's & anniversay meals, also for our monthly date night special treat.
