Along a street of surprising food possibilities, I was glad to sit at one of only two tables at Bread Market Cafe where everyone else was getting salads and sammies to go. On my way to MoMa, I was glad for the turkey meatballs with mozzarella on a baguette, plus a side of slaw. They say it's all Real Food up in here. No matter. It's good.

Stay away. Not only is the food subpar and the management inept, but the prices and "specials" on the menu are a complete fabrication. True story: I tried to get a sandwich and soup, which is supposed to be a $2.79 addition to a sandwich. Instead, I was charged nearly $5 for the soup. When I mentioned this to the cashier, she shrugged and told me I didn't have to have the soup! Fabulous response.

So funny. Coming in, I remarked that this place was amazingly similar to Digby's. Googling it to get the website, I find out they have the same management! Ehh... sucks to be in midtown. SOS... "same ol'..." day in and day out. My taste buds are about to go on strike! Anyway, onward to the review! Clean & fast. Place is turning green... going organic and all soon. Or so their adverts tell me. You can get some salad, soup, sandwiches, prepared freshly and not icky sicky dinky looking. Got the lobster bisque. It was good. I got some fresh air. That was good as well. The only place I found nearby (aside from the mini-mart downstairs) that sells the Nekkid Juice. Except it's like, $5/pop. People were nice. No food mess. Clean, shiny environment. Organized lines that move fast once you figure out what line you want to be in.

Guess what? It's in midtown in an office building. DUH, it's going to be expensive. I've been eating here since my company moved into this building about six years ago. Come here for the custom-made salads. Don't bother with anything else. If you only get one of the salads, expect to get an Exactly-As-You-Want, perfectly fresh, wonderful salad. Choose your greens and then add whatever the hell you want into it while the salad guy smiles and tosses it all together for you. If you get anything other than a salad, buyer beware.

A typical run of the mill lunch place that offers hot food, sandwiches, and salads. However, if budget is a concern for you and you're trying to eat healthy then this place isn't too bad. I go here for the kale salad (regular) size and load up on the offered toppings; granted there are limitation's on the number of toppings they offer, the best part is they don't charge you per topping like a lot of salad places do in the area. I leave here with a kale salad for about $7.60 which consist of about 8 toppings....

The sandwiches are amazing!! The salads are crisp, fresh and delicious. I've been here multiple times and each time I am more and more impressed. The staff is super friendly and attentive. The atmosphere is comfortable and not to loud as I tend to work while eating.

I was excited for this burrito. Chock full of veggies, brown rice, wheat tortilla- boy, healthy AND delicious... right? Wrong. Too much rice, not enough veggies or cheese or salsa or FLAVOR. Pretty much felt like something I would've made if I were in a rush. Why spend money on that? They were fantastically fast with delivery, though.

Waited an hour and half for a sandwich. They said that the one I had ordered was only available on Fridays so they went to pick it up from another store. WTF!? Just tell me you don't have it and let me order something else. They claim to have refunded my money allegedly but I haven't seen it. As an added bonus, my sandwich was cold when it arrived. There are a plenty of restaurants in this area. Won't be bothering with this one again. Sort-of odd since I'd had such a good experience with their sister store, Digby's.

I come here everyday with my coworker during my afternoon coffee break. All coffees are half off after 3PM. It's not the best coffee in the area but it gets the job done. 2 medium hazelnut coffees w/ skim milk.. $1.73 total. not too shabby.

Working across the street you get to know places pretty regularly. Most places you have to learn what to order, how to order it, etc to maximize the bang for your buck. Bread Market is no different. So let's hit the food groups: Sandwiches - Hit or miss depending on who you order from. One thing's for sure though, the bread is the bomb deliciousness. Can be shy on the meat sometimes. I wouldn't mess with too many toppings considering they add up quick, and be sure to opt for a roll over the sliced bread - you tend to get more. Soup - Expensive. Not all created equal. I would add the $2.99 soup onto your meal (12 oz) if you get a sandwich/salad, but definitely don't come here for only a bowl of soup. The tomato vegetable is the reigning champ. Salad - Not worth it. Whenever I get a large spinach salad with a few toppings, by the time they're done putting dressing on the container is (noticably) less than half full. I find they're very cheap on the lettuce and overly generous on cheese/dressing. The best salads around here are Chop't (best tasting, easiest to order) and Bistro (unlimited toppings, cheap) Burrito - Come here on Fridays and it's cheaper. The pork is lick-your-freaking-chops delicious. Smiling and talking with the person making your burrito goes a long way as to how nice it looks once it's in your grubby mitts. Staff - Contrary to other reviews, I find the staff here to be very friendly...and keeping a smile during midtown lunch traffic sure ain't easy! Best bang for the buck: Turkey with Swiss and Lettuce/Tomato/Onion/Mustard on a multi-grain roll with a side of tomato vegetable soup. Total with tax = $11.50.

Ordered from here via seamlessweb, which I do a lot. The turkey burger was overcooked and underspiced, fries were soggy. Delivery time was decent though, about 30 minutes from order to delivery.

Not sure about the service inside the establishment as far as buttering bagels but as far as catering goes, this place gets my vote. They have a huge selection in regards to lunch options and I will def. be ordering from them again. The vegetarian sandwiches as well as the side salads were a hit with our party.
