Healthy Meal suggestions for Outback Steakhouse

You know, there seems to be a backlash against chain restaurants among certain people in Tupelo, but honestly, Tupelo's Outback is about as good as any independent restaurant that anybody else has conjured up. Maybe Outback doesn't have a smash burger or a $35 steak with locally-sourced but inedible cauliflower as a side, but Outback DOES have a damn fine sirloin, excellent burgers, superb grilled salmon, and a great selection of sides and salads. My wife and I had an early dinner one night last week, and we came away perfectly satisfied. She ordered the small sirloin (8 oz.?) with veggies and a bleu cheese wedge salad. The steak was cooked exactly as she ordered, and it arrived just as she was finishing her salad. I had the teriyaki steak medallions, veggies, and the walkabout soup. Couldn't have been more pleased with my entree. Good flavor, good quality ingredients. Our server was excellent, kept our drinks refilled, and kept the meal moving in a timely manner from appetizer to my wife's salad to the entrees. The only slightly negative note was our appetizer, which was the crab and avocado stack. Frankly, neither my wife nor I thought that this particular appetizer was well-balanced. There seemed to be too little crab, too much avocado, and not enough flavor or contrasting texture. It was also a bit mushy. However, the rest of our meal more than made up for the appetizer, and we'll just choose something different next time. With drinks, tax, and tip, we came out under $45. I'd say the chain restaurant wins this one.

If you're a business traveler, you can appreciate the glowing neon sign of an Outback in any town after a long day on the road. After a day of undressing and being probed by TSA, being crammed between two sweatpants-wearing, greasy-haired amateur travelers in coach and dealing with the rental car agency, all one wants is a place that they can count on. I can count on the Outback in Tupelo, MS. If this place would have been around when Elvis were still in town, he would have surely been hanging out at the bar here with Adam and Forrest, drinking a Lazy Magnolia Southern Pecan and gnawing on some red meat. I know this because this is what I do when I'm in Tupelo, MS.

Outback is my go to spot when I'm out on business. It's delicious, consistent, fairly priced, and has never let me done. The steaks are the money spot for me. I've never had a bad experience at an Outback.

Good but failed to cook steak as ordered and green beans were served kinda hard.

I was expecting a nice thick filet like I always get at Outback but both the steaks we ordered were thinner than our cheeseburger at lunch! We asked our waiter about them and he said that corporate came in and said they were "over portioning" and putting way too many condiments with meals so they have decided to go with less quality steaks. When we spoke with the manager about our meal she said that they were trying to appeal to more people in the middle class so they reduced food to lower prices. Since when was Outback a high end place to begin with? There wasn't even the old style of filet they used to have on the menu to choose from. We left feeling VERY hungry and will NEVER eat at any Outback location again! Also, my salad had more croutons than pieces of lettuce!!!

Only one star because you can't go any lower. Sat at the booth in a half empty restaurant for ten minutes before a server even came to get a drink order. After another ten minutes with no drinks yet, we decided to leave. Will not return.

You're better off just going to Longhorn or Logans. I have had nothing but awful experiences with this restaurant. Every single visit has been marred by unattentive wait staff, ridiculously long wait times for EVERYTHING, and food that comes out luke warm at best. We finally gave up after our last visit. This place is just not worth it.

We sat at the bar and had one of the best dining experiences ever. I had the "Outback Special" steak with an added Old Bay lobster tail. Absolute perfection!! I was worried the lobster would be overcooked and tough (like they serve at Red Lobster) but I was thrilled when it arrived cooked exactly right. My husband had the same awesome lobster paired with his prime rib. I could see the beauty of that piece of meat cooked to a perfect medium rare so I had to have a bite! Buttery, succulent, amazing....I could go on and on....we will definitely be going back!!

Our waiter was nice as hell, man. We had a good time. I'm torn on outback's food. Just don't feel like there are enough options for people who don't want to eat meat, which is fine, but they have this "c'mon in, bring all your friends, even the gay ones *sigh*" type marketing approach so I feel like maybe a portobello burger or something wouldn't be a lot to ask, you know, just to make the herbivores feel like we aren't just dead weight in the room. I got a bunch of appetizers. Didn't get a stomach virus or anything so I can definitely vouch for this place. We all turned our phones on airplane mode and did a "you only get yours back if you win 'never have I ever'" thing and I think we will be doing that more often. Great pumpernickel bread, too.

Unfortunately this is the worst Outback I have ever eaten at and I like the Outback. I have eaten here a few times while staying at the Courtyard and although the staff is friendly the food quality is horrible. Each time I thought maybe it's a fluke .... Nope! The salads are very small compared to other Outbacks and God forbid you get take out the give you cold bread! My recommendation is to drive past the Outback in Tupelo.

My family and I were in Tupelo for the 4th of July and if anyone here has been to Tupelo there isn't that many amazing restaurants. So we all decided to go here, the service was cool and the waiter was friendly. Our food was mediocre at best and we definitely could have had better elsewhere. But overall my steak was okay and my sides were sort of delicious. I say go here if your options are limited. #HottyToddy - Mario

I stayed at one of the hotels behind the outback due to work for a few months back in 2011. Let me just say that this was my absolute favorite place to eat in Tupelo, MS. The staff ALWAYS made me feel right at home; it was a nice, comfortable home away from home. If I ever get a chance to come back, I'd love to visit. T
