My girlfriend and I stayed in Tupelo for 2 nights over the weekend (Ole Miss/Alabama State game--Sadly for us, Alabama lost). We went to Blue Canoe on our first night and were blown away with the service. Tammy (our waitress) was soooo sweet and full of southern hospitality. There is a great patio in the back with bean bag toss (can't think of the name of the game) plenty of seating and TV. We ordered Cajun Edammame. (It was served in a mason jar/SOOOO ORIGINAL). And super delicious! We also had the deep fried avocado with crawfish and peppers. Who we thought was just a super friendly young bus boy, turned out to be the OWNER!!! He was so hands on and so nice and totally funny. We went the next night, after the game, and Tammy totally remembered us and made our Cajun Edamame even more spicy and we had a delicious burger and onion rings. Although, we weren't crazy about the live band, it was SUCH A COOL PLACE to hang out and eat. I wish we had a Blue Canoe here in Dallas.

Went there for my birthday and everything was fantastic. The staff was super friendly and tentative. The 'Surf & Turf' burger was definitely on point.

Stopped here to watch my college team play. Well was very impressed. They have a fairly decent list of beers with a good selection on tap including several Mississippi and Louisiana microbrews. The menu isn't extensive with typical bar/pub offerings. I went with the Smashburger which is a ground sirloin with Benton's bacon mixed in procured from a local butcher/eatery- The Neon Pig. The burger was excellent: a double patty that was juicy, the meat had a nice subtle smokiness that was imparted by the bacon. For those not in the know Bentons makes arguably the best bacon in America. The burger was topped with lettuce and tomatoes. I will definitely be back again for this burger. The accompanying fries were very tasty as well. I opted for the sausage cheese dip on the side which was a delicious dipping sauce for the fries. The place is a bit dicey but nice. Has a number of flat screens showing sports and a stage which I imagine is for live music. If you are in Tupelo I would recommend checking this place out.

This place rocks! It was recommended to us by the guys at the Neon Pig, as we were in town for a Craft Beer festival. They have an awesome Craft beer selection, both draft and bottles. The band we heard on a Friday night was great! The server we had did an awesome job of keeping us filled up, even though the place was packed. We had a few of the appetizers and those were great! They have an outside area with bar for those seeking a little more space. I will certainly be going back if I get back to Tupelo in the future.

Wow, pretty divvy bat and restaurant, was skeptical if it wasn't recommended by a colleague. Great beer selection, no cocktail menu, but they will make you anything if they have the ingredients. Colleague had the chicken and waffle and a Caesar salad, she liked. Other colleagues had the smoother fries, it looked like American poutine, French fries with melted cheese and gravy and such...looked like a messy meal, they enjoyed it. I had the pasta with creamy pesto and shrimp and crawfish; shrimp was tender, crawfish were tiny and scarce, the pesto sauce was too creamy and overpowered the pasta. I hear the burgers are da bomb.

Great country bar, good place to chill on the weekends, a bit loud but after a few drinks you won't notice. Average bar food used to slow down alcohol poisoning process. Friendly people always.

Aww what the heck, checked into local hotel and they recommended this place. I was pleasantly surprised. Had country time pepper dry wings. This lemon pepper must be a Mississippi thing, none they less they were awesome meaty and big. Not pigeon wings. Bailey was awesome, courteous, polite, prompt. And knowledgable. This place may look like hole in wall, NOT. It is laid back southern style. They have a great beer selection. Between what's on tap and in bottle enough to make, making a decision a bit tough. Also had pork and greens based on recommendation of local patron. Never had it before. Always open to trying something new! I enjoyed it. It is always fun trying the local fare. And they have corn hole pit and some other games out back. Good place to relax and enjoy an evening. Give it a try you will be pleasantly surprised. .

Solid on food, service and atmosphere. THE FOOD The fish sandwich was very very nice. The beer selection could have been better, but I was very impressed relative to what I was expecting for the region. THE SERVICE Super friendly, warm and unpretentious. THE ATMOSPHERE Casual, kind hip yet warm.

The Smashburger is really good but heavy--be sure you are extra hungry to enjoy this one of a kind burger. I had the blueberry donut bread pudding to go--it was pretty tasty--probably better to have it while in the restaurant Parking is limited so keep that in mind All major cc accepted

Love this place! Everything on the menu is on point and the prices are so fair! For what you get they could charge more, but I'm glad they don't! We had the Crack Dip fries and the shrimp skewers. Nice little atmosphere in there and the servers are so damn nice! I'll be dining here on the regular when I visit Tupelo for work.

I would not recommend going here. Waited 10 minutes for someone to even acknowledge that we were there. Then she asked if we were wanting to eat...well she said that we would be waiting for an hour for that. I don't believe they are staffing the place appropriately to provide good customer service.

During a business trip, we dined at the Blue Canoe twice for dinner. The food was really good. The service was good but sometimes slower than I would have preferred. Our appetizers were Crack Dip Fries, Onion Rings, Fried Black Eyed Peas, & the avocado one. All were good especially the onion rings and crank dip fries. I had the Smash Burger one night and loved it. I got the Chicken & Waffles the other night and it was good as well. Others in my group enjoyed the pasta, Smashly Joe, and Cuban. Everyone enjoyed their meals. We had the same waitress both nights. She was very nice but sometimes her visits to the table were few and far between. I'd go again if in the area.

  • Jonathan H.

The burgers are among the tastiest you'll find in Mississippi, the crack dip is aptly named, and the blueberry doughnut bread pudding is so good you'll wish you could eat the mug in which it's served. Great beer selection and nice folks, too.

  • Susan B.

Food was excellent and so was the service. The waitress did a great job explaining the menu and giving suggestions. Not a very big place and there wasn't a band playing tonight. I imagine with music playing it would be hard to converse with people at your table.

I've been twice so far while working in Tupelo and would've been there more if I had known about it. If you sit at the bar you'll find yourself among a mixture of locals and out of towners that I've found very easy to talk to. The draft selection is great and so is the bottle selection. The staff likes to talk to you not just take your order. The Smash burger seems to be a local favorite because this isn't the only restaurant it's served at in Tupelo. Be careful with the crack dip fries because they are addicting. You actually can't go wrong with any appetizer or entree. I'll be returning to Blue Canoe every time I'm in Tupelo for business.

Beer selection was about a 4. Food was about 3 - 4. Service at the bar was about a 2. Overall 3.0 Happy hour ends at 6pm.

  • Sarah D.

Definitely the best burgers and fries in town. The fries are fresh cut, double fried and just awesome. I have not had a bad meal here and the Connies Blueberry Donut Bread Pudding is so good it is sinful. I really enjoyed the duck as well. Great beer menu (too many IPAs - but that's just a personal preference) and though I don't eat them, watching folks consume the fresh crawfish when available is a treat. Only complaint is they are not open for lunch (even Saturday would be nice???)

    (5)
  • Chad M.

Warning: Surf & Turf Burger will cause tumescence & the blueberry donut bread pudding will put you over the edge. Great vibe & cold beer selection will make you want to spend the entire afternoon here. Go!

We were fall-color-cruising the Natchez Trace, over-nighting in Tupelo on a Wednesday, and were shocked to discover (in a town this size) a live music venue with a band playing mid-week. It also happened to be the last night of the 2014 World Series, so we camped out at the Blue Canoe and enjoyed the game while listening to a piano player who was so mad at being dumped by his record company that he played the song he wrote about the experience -- twice. It is obviously very popular with the locals and with good reason. The food is excellent, the beer selection is great ... and you know you're in a well-run place when the owner is out front bussing tables instead of lounging in a back office wishing his wait staff would work harder. Ask for Tammy's section, she's a pro with a grin the size of Elvis's birthplace, but much prettier.

When in a new town I rely on Yelp to help me find a good place to eat/drink. Reviews were positive so I gave it a try. I think my first mistake was sitting at the bar to eat but since I was by myself I didn't want to take up a table. The bartender was more interested in talking with two guys at the opposite side of the bar, took 10 min for her to finish up her conversation before she came down to see what I and another customer who had been waiting even longer wanted. I ordered a beer and burger. Food was decent and tap beer selection impressive. I did notice fruit flies which concerns me on how often the two lines are cleaned. To much time was wasted on trying to get the attention of the bartender for another beer so I paid and left. The customer count at the bar was 6 so not a full bar by any means. While I wouldn't rule out going back I would most likely sit at a table next time to ensure better service.

Great atmosphere. We ordered the fully loaded Smash burger (which was delicious) and the blackened grouper with a side Caesar salad (combine them for a decadent dish)! I can't forgot to mention the huge beer selection. So many great options. If you are lucky enough to get Tammy as your server, you're in for a treat. She is so wonderful! We will definitely be back next time we are in Tupelo.

Fried avocado wedges are awesome!! (They need a little salt.) Hubby had a burger and could only get halfway through it (unusual). I had duck confit quesadillas (amazing). Our server was very attentive and friendly. Most expensive item on the whole menu was $12. Will definitely be going back!!

We were in town for the Tupelo Marathon the night before and decided to eat here for an early dinner. We sat outside under the covered patio and the atmosphere out there was just amazing. We had such a good time! The food was great. More than just bar food as I didn't expect it. I'm not sure what other reviews had??? I had the Crispy Romaine Fried Chicken and it was quite a lot of food. Others in my party had the Shrimp & Crawfish Pesto Pasta and it was a huge bowl! Enjoyed it very much!

I wasn't overly impressed with this place. The food was good but not great. I will go back and give them another try.

Easily the best beer list in town. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Service was quick. Food was hot and the beer was cold. Never had fried avocado before but it was really good. I had the Buffalo chicken wings, crispy and delicious. This place is usually packed, and for good reason.

I've hung with the Blue Canoe food-wise despite a rough start because they determined to be an oasis in a beer desert. Their early menu items were ambitious but lacked consistency. Now however, their menu is great AND has every beer Adam can get in the area. Last night's Smashburger was cooked perfectly. I'm a hamburger "connoisseur" and this was in my top 5 anywhere! They bring in a lot of well regarded bands from all over. Most aren't my thing (sorry, I'm a jazz snob) but if you like that it is a nice venue.

I am originally from the Tupelo area and though I don't live here anymore I come back several times a year to visit family. There isn't much in the way of things to do and decent beer is hard to come by, so I usually meet friends for drinks at Blue Canoe--the food is pretty good and the atmosphere is great, which is why I'm giving them two stars instead of the one that I want to give them after tonight. Anyway, tonight the bartender was so rude that I decided to close my tab and come home to drink and watch Monster Week on Animal Planet rather than stay at Blue Canoe. My sister got a Hoegaarden, my husband got a New Belgium Ranger, and I got a Goose Island 312. The bottled Hoegaarden was of course fine, as was the Ranger, but the three of us agreed that 312 tasted AWFUL. We've all had the beer before, so it's not that we just happen to not like it, but that the 312 actually tasted like buttered popcorn Jelly Belly and dirty water. They finished their beers and were ready for another, while I was unable to drink mine because it was that bad, so I took it back and told the bartender and told her it didn't taste right and asked if she would take it off my tab or give me something else. Not only was she totally unwilling, but she LAUGHED IN MY FACE. I left the 3/4 full beer on the bar because it was literally undrinkable. Even at McDonalds if something isn't right then they'll fix it. Clearly I wasn't just trying to get something for free--like I said, the beer was almost full. I like to support local businesses as much as possible, but I guess from now on I'll be drinking somewhere else in Tupelo.

Had a band that doesn't start until 8:45 and turning away people at 6 pm if no ticket pre-purchased. When going to read about band last night, no ticket requirement or offer stated. Great place to skip when visiting Tupelo.

We were recommended this place by the boys in La Vino. From the outside we were scared as it screamed sports bar, but were delighted inside with its rustic wooden walls, cute tables, and adorable bar area, there is a spot for live music and I suspect it could be deafening on a music night but was dark and low key on Wednesday. We came of course to try the Smashburger, a local delicacy. It was enormous and Pablo and I split one. $10 well spent, thick juicy burger with Benton's bacon, and all the trimmings inc a fried egg, Service was A-OK and Happy hour is 3.00pm-7.00pm Mon-Fri.

Returned not long ago and split a smash burger with the hubs and had a few beers. The burger was amazing, onion rings were flawless and the waitress, though busy, was nice enough to try and coax us to try new and different beers which we did. Great afternoon!

Great place to grab a drink - comfy, cozy small town feel. Fried black peas are also a good choice - unique! Our meals on the other hand was par at best. The BBQ Shrimp came highly reccomended and in reality just tasted like shrimp swimming in worchestershire sauce. I didn't even finish it. My friends plate came out cold. Probably won't eat there again.

I ate here over Spring Break 2013. I realize my review is late but a certain FB post reminded me of how disgusting this place is. I was in town from Houston, TX, and my brothers and I met here to have a couple beers because the selection was nice for Tupelo. I ordered a burger with cheese. When it arrived, there was no cheese. I alerted the waitress, who acted like it wasn't her fault. I didn't really care whose fault it was other than it certainly wasn't mine. So I said "I did order it with cheese." To which she responded, "what do you want me to do? Make you a new burger?" I have never been treated in such a way! By a waitress! They were not that busy and other tables were complaining, too. I had to order from the bartender after that. I ate nothing, then left...never to return. So, instead of dissing events on Facebook, you may want to invest that time into hiring decent staff.

traveling through Tupelo after full day of driving. told us the whole family could come in and eat dinner without paying a cover but after parking we were turned away because manager said no one under 21 years permitted. it was only 8:20 pm. very poor customer service. took our $ to Romies!

  • Scott B.

DO NOT GO! Period! The service here is the absolute worse!!! No attention...rude...disrespectful. They treat you like you should be honored to be there and just be glad with someone showing you a bit of attention. The menu is very limited. If your a beer drinker then you'll like the selection but it definitely doesn't make up for being treated the way they treat you. There's dozens of other great places to eat in Tupelo. Save your money and go to them. You'll be happy you did!

  • Peter K.

Wow! Great food, service, atmosphere, excellent live music 3 nights a week, beer selection on tap is unreal....where am I?... outstanding! Everything on the menu is great, try the smash burger and the blueberry doughnut bread pudding. Go for a walk before to build your appetite. Elvis would have been a regular.

  • John S.

Funky, blues shack atmosphere with a stage, live bands, regional craft beers and great food! The SmashBurger has chuck, filet and bacon in it! Not open on Sundays, and they can be both crowded and slow, but if you're not in a hurry, it's worth the wait. Try to go on a night where Hill Country blues legends Duwayne or Garry Burnside are playing.

  • Maaike V.

If you want a good beer in Tupelo, this is the place to go, if it's available and a craft brew, chances are Adam has it. While you're there, grab a smash burger, one of the best burgers in Town, next to Neon Pig's version if it, and their Bash Burger. The menue is pretty solid, and hey, if you're lucky, they might have a bacon jam special! Some night's there's bands playing, usually not my thing but if it gets too loud, there's a very nice patio out back.

Yes, I have eaten at the Blue Canoe. My dining partner and I were underwhelmed. No, we do not plan to return. I typically do not take the time to write reviews of bad restaurant experiences but feel somewhat goaded into it by the bad manners and churlish comments of the owner who recently accused me of being a liar in a public forum. (BTW, Adam, Jose Garces IS an Iron Chef. Google it.) Our visit to the Blue Canoe, prompted by rave reviews on Trip Advisor and Yelp, was very disappointing. Being northerners, we were anxious to sample more southern cuisine, a version of which this restaurant boasts to serve. We love Ajax in Oxford. Amazingly delicious food over there (try it!) but a drive from Tupelo where we normally stay. The Canoe's sad, outdated menu helps to explain why Mississippi ranks first in the nation for obesity. I can see an occasional foray into the eating of highly caloric, greasy platters filled with gravy-laden fries and large plates full of starchy grits or even an occasional splurge, ordering the heavily battered chicken between two carb-filled white waffles but few other interesting and possibly more healthy choices seemed to exist . As a regular diet, however, the restaurant should post a warning on its menu."This glue-like substance which coats almost all of our entrees may cause you to have to shop at the "Today's Woman" department of your local Belk's store." My dining companion and I split their version of a mufalleta, hoping that it might resemble those we had savored in New Orleans. Unfortunately,It was perhaps its 3rd cousin once removed. I think that it had a slab of ham substituted for the traditional thinly layered mortadella, prosciutto, salami and cheeses on top of olive tapenade which make this sandwich interesting and compelling. Whatever it was we got certainly was not what we had hoped for. Perhaps they simply ran out of the other ingredients, but I hate it when restaurants substitute without mentioning it or asking whether or not the guest would like to try something else.. The other sandwich we split -- some kind of pork sandwich -- was equally unsatisfying and cold when it finally arrived. We both agreed that it was a nice try but no cigar. We will likely not be back unless they move into the 21st century and serve meals that are not all simply colored brown and gray or army green and beige, all sodden and weighed down by their famously bland "gravy." I saw some nice, bright green veggies in some of the photos on various websites but nothing fresh or crisp graced any tables within our view around us. Service, too, was slow and the server rather inattentive, the kiss of death at many restaurants. She kept refilling my tea with sweet tea which, as a diabetic, is extremely frustrating as was getting her attention after the error. As newcomers we could have used her help in ordering, too. If I lived in town, I might drop in for what sounds like a good music scene. Maybe the food would taste better after a few cold craft beers, and maybe Adam is nicer in person.

Love this place... If you are allergic to high fat foods, loud noises, wait personnel that are busy and may not take the time to cater to your sensitivities..Then you likely need to go down the street to one of those mall options. But when I visit Tupleo I try to make a point of longingly gazing upon the massive wall of draft pulls located at this establishment. Anyone that fries black eyed peas and puts them in a mason jar is like some kind of Southern Willy Wonka. They also support other fine Tupelo culinary establishments through the tasty Smash Burger - bacon from the Neon Pig nearby. And the amazing blueberry donuts from Connie's used to make the bread pudding. Keep doing you Blue Canoe.

I met some friends here when I was home for the holidays on a Monday night. It was packed, maybe because of the MNF Steelers/Niners game, and the service definitely suffered for it. They were out of the beer I requested, but I didn't find out until about ten minutes after I ordered it. Took another ten minutes to get my second choice to my table. I ordered the chicken waffle sandwich for which I had high hopes. The chicken was cold, the waffle was cold, the syrup was cold. The waffles were incredibly dry. I didn't want to send it out to be warned up as I figured it would take at least ten minutes and the waffle would only dry out more. I believe the syrup was supposed to be bourbon infused and while it smelled as such, the taste was not there. Fortunately for the rest of my party, everyone else enjoyed their warm and tasty meals and I supplemented my unfortunate dinner with yummy fries I stole of a friend's plate. I would probably try the place out again just for the interesting menu and the great beer list, but my experience wasn't the best the first time around.

The place was actually very cool looking inside, had a nice patio outside, strong drinks, and a cool set up for bands to play. I give all of that a 5. That being said....the service was ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE. :( I was sitting at the bar with a friend, when I felt something leak onto my dress. And then...to my horror, smelled a strong vinegar smell. I looked down and somehow a vinegar smelling substance was LEAKING from the bar all over my dress. I grabbed a napkin, stuck it under the bar where it was leaking, and brownish, nasty smelling goo went all over the napkin. I immediately showed the bartender and asked to speak with the manager. It took about 20 minutes and multiple times of asking and finally the owner came over. He was rude, unapologetic, and actually basically called me a liar. He stated that there was no vinegar on the property and it couldn't have been coming from the bar, even though I quickly put another napkin at the leak and showed him. Other bar patrons we beginning to catch on, because I was causing quite a seen at this time. I kept trying to complain, because they never even came over to CLEAN the mess up. I didn't want someone else to get their clothes ruined either... Would you know that because I "complained too much" and was trying to warn people not to sit there, I was KICKED OUT!!! By security! I will never go back to this place again, or recommend it to anyone. I've never been treated so poorly in my life.

We went on what was probably an off-night, a Tuesday, as this place looks like it could probably rock pretty hard on the weekends with its patio. Good regional (plus) draft beer selection and a menu with a creative take on Southern food. We had fried avocado wedges that featured a garnish that included crawfish among other things. My dinner was a fried chicken breast panini-pressed between two waffles with an 'au jus' dip of bourbon-infused maple syrup. Server was friendly and kept the drinks coming. Definitely worth a shot if you find yourself in Tupelo and want to skip Red Lobster, Ryans and the other offerings on the north side of town.

Our party of 3 arrive about 7:00 pm on a Saturday evening. No one greeted or welcomed us at the door and no sign indicated we should seat ourselves. Apparently, you stand around watching others eat until a party vacates a table and you then seat yourself and wait for the table to be bused. After a while a waitress appeared and sat at the table and asked what we wanted to drink...but no drink menu only some chalkboards with some available beers. After taking our order (an appetizer, fried black-eyed peas, and entrees, 2 hamburgers and one muffaletta), the waitress disappeared for about 10 minutes and upon returning said, "We can't do anything with chicken tonight." I think she meant the chef failed to order any chicken earlier in the day for prep and cooking later in the day. After about 20 minutes our waitress returned and advised that our meal would be arriving soon but the appetizer was not included with our original order (she did not write anything down, so I suppose she forgot to order) but it would be out later. After meal finally arrived, we were sorely disappointed. The hamburger meat was mushy. The french fries were apparently old since they were chewy. The muffaletta was a pile of meat with cold cheese on top...not any resemblance to a real muffaletta. About halfway through our meal, the appetizer appeared in a hot pint-sized jar (no warning the jar was hot). The fried black-eyed peas were tasteless being overpowered by bay seasoning and heavy fried flour crust. A real waste. So, poor dinning room management, bad wait staff service, poorly managed kitchen, bad recipes, but I guess the beer selection is okay if you have never been in a bar outside of Mississippi, but no one in our party cared to order a beer.

19 draft beers available, plus plenty of bottled also. menu is limited to pub/grill food and has local flavor...fries drenched in cheese and ?, smashburger (hamburg/bacon), etc. i sat at bar...bartender very attentive (place was very busy, i got last seat at bar), and local guys on both sides of me promoted conversation, friendly and very helpful re: local area,\. had blackened grilled shrimp and salad, very good. i would definitely go back, it was friendly, good food, good beer. happy trails.

THIS PLACE ROCKS ! Quit eating to live, and live to EAT !!! The Canoe has the most unique cuisine around, period. The beer selection is GRAND. The music is EPIC ! Just drop what you're doing, and get in the CANOE !!!

Live music and bands and a different kind of atmosphere here. Food is not traditional and I only rate it as OK., but not great. Service was good and they have many draft choices. But overall I don't necessarily enjoy that place too much.
