The food here is great, don't get me wrong, but it's a premium priced place that should knock me out every time I go. The first time I went was when they were in the city, and I loved it. Knocked me out. But the last time I was there (in Clayton), I wasn't wowed. It was good, and did the job, but for $100+ a person, I expect a little more. I am a huge fan of the other Niche restaurants (Pastaria and Taste are favorites), so I'll probably go there for 1/3 the price.
This place is like the critically acclaimed movie but doesn't appeal to the masses. Some of the items are amazing like the meats but other things are just gross like the mashed potatoes with green ice cream on top.
Niche is the type of place that makes someone new to St. Louis think, "you know, I could make it work here." Everything we had was wonderful. The decor is perfectly modern. The lighting and atmosphere are perfect - perfect for a romantic meal or a fun group dinner.

I have to admit something - the main reason I was attracted to this place was because I heard about their desserts. I know that sounds pretty strange. But ever since I've given up bread, pizza and calzone type things haven't really been missed. If I ever have carbs nowadays, they come in the form of brownies, cookies, pancakes or french toast. But since I was having a cheat day, I figured I might as well have a few bites of the savory calzone my hubby ordered. The Gonzo - salami, dates, spinach, Boursin, mozzarella, marscapone, ricotta and garlic oil inside, served with a side of garlic butter. I thought this sounded pretty friggin' awesome and unlike any calzone I've ever heard of. I don't know where else you'd find a calzone filled with dates! Despite the fact that all of the dates seemed to be stuck in the corners while the meat was piled high in the middle, this was a pretty delicious calzone! I have to say that the dessert calzone was not quite as impressive. It was smaller and it was packed full of as much filling as I wanted, especially when it comes to Nutella! Also, while the dough on the outside was crispy, the dough on the inside was quite under-cooked. I know some people enjoy that kind of text, but can't say I feel the same. We will definitely be back to try another savory calzone because every single one on the menu looks fantastic!
We went in on a Saturday at about 4:30 and expected it to be busy, as it was getting close to the dinner rush, but surprisingly it hadn't picked up yet. For me, this is good because I hate crowds and would have probably went somewhere else. There wasn't anyone at the counter when we walked in, so we stood there for a while until the phone rang and someone came from the back to take an order from the phone. At this point, I liked the interior of the place and the atmosphere, so waiting a few minutes for staff didn't bother me too much. Also I noticed they have the pure cane sugar sodas that I like and have had before at places like Sugarfire. When the lady finished with the phone, we placed our order, got our drinks and had a seat. The tables and chairs are nice since I'm a big guy and worry (I know all you big guys and gals do too) I was worried, but It was comfortable and not a wobbly crappy chair. After about 10 minutes it seemed, our food came out. These plates they use are larger than normal plates, I must add, so when you look at pictures, keep that in mind. The calzone (I ordered the meat me in Saint Louie) was stuffed pretty full and my wife ordered the Zen Garden salad which was quite large. As far as calzones go, I read a lot of reviewers think they are huge, like some mammoth sized calzone. These people obviously don't eat calzones much. I wouldn't say they are huge for a calzone by any means, but rather that calzones in general are pretty large. With all of that said, I really, really enjoyed my calzone. It was very flavorful and fantastic all around. Not too much dough and lots of cheese. The ricotta was awesome as was the mozzarella. My wife loved her salad and that it had mandarin oranges on it. She also loved the salad dressing. I will be trying the fatty b and my wife will get the strawberry fields salad next time we go. These are the other options that we ended up passing on for what we got, but want to try out later. I ordered a Nutella-banana dessert to go and it was also very good. A bit messy, so don't try to eat it in the car or something, make sure you have utensils and napkins. Haha. I look forward to trying the apple pie next time or some time in the future. If you've read this whole thing, you are a champ! :)
It's GOOD. The cornucopia of flavors nestled inside this 14 table establishment is enough to warrant multiple visits just to try them all. Every bite of calzone eaten topped the previous one. The Figgy Piggy was a delightful combination of the perfect blend of figs, caramelized onions, and bacon with the perfect amount of cheeses to balance the flavors perfectly. The sauce on the side chosen was the spicy ranch. Perfection! The Fatty B was another winner calzone. The cheese and spicy sausage was topped with the perfectly cooked and crispy garlic butter topping. The Meat Me In St Louis was a the perfect Italian calzone with just the right amount of cheese. The Marscapone cheese was the PERFECT balance to the strong Italian meats. We topped the meal with the Apple Pie calzone which was touted as a family recipe favorite. We will be back!

Exceptional food and superb service in a rather formal corner of the Ritz-Carlton lobby. This Ritz is in an outstanding location, in the heart of Clayton, with lots of things nearby. This restaurant features traditional American dishes, perfectly prepared, and well served in a room allowing for private conversation and enjoying nice wines and cocktails. If you are staying at the hotel, the cigar bar next-door is one-of-a-kind! Lobby bar is exceptional for a nightcap! Superb location all around. A must for visitors.
I remember coming here a lot growing up and the food was always amazing. It was a classy ambiance, with an extensive menu, tasty food (including chocolate soufflés!!)), and good service. Came here recently and I noticed there were lots of changes. It looks like they are trying modernize the ambiance and go for a more casual, relaxed vibe. They have a a paper menu and way less selection (and no chocolate soufflé). I noticed everything overall seemed to get downgraded a bit on the menu, but the prices stayed the same. The restaurant seemed pretty understaffed and the food was really nothing spectacular for what you would expect from Ritz. It's not as great as it used to be , but hopefully things will improve.
I had a great experience dining at The Grill earlier this evening. I showed up around 5:45pm not knowing that the restaurant opens at 6pm. I had no problem waiting 15 minutes, but the hostess insisted on calling the kitchen to check if they were ready to begin serving guests, and fortunately, they were! My dinner started with some complimentary warm bread: a sweet cornbread muffin, a standard bread roll, and bread sticks. The bread was a nice started, particularly the cornbread, and I appreciated that it came out warm to help melt the butter I slathered all over each piece. For my appetizer I tried the carrot and ginger portage soup. I had no idea what to expect--I didn't even know what portage was until the server explained it to me--but I was pleasantly surprised by the slightly sweet taste and pureed texture of the soup, though I could have done without the ginger slices; just a personal preference. For my entree I ordered the 12oz prime NY strip with a side of creamed spinach. The steak was prepared to near-perfection, medium rare, seared on the outside, pink'ish-red in the middle (see picture). The steak came with a side sauce but I preferred my steak uncompromised. The steak was almost as good, if not on par, with the prime NY strip I recently had at the 801 Chophouse, a true steakhouse, which is saying something for a hotel restaurant. The cream spinach was the perfect side, not too heavy, juicy but not overly creamy, and packed with spinach flavor. Popeye would be a fan. I passed on dessert as I was comfortably full. But based on my dining experience--the ambiance, service, and quality--I will without a doubt be back to try their dessert, and of course, their "1885" bone in ribeye. =)

Every meal that I have at the demun oyster bar is a great experience-From the ambience, warmth, and fabulous staff, to the exceptional attention to every detail, with cuisine that is extremely fresh and delicious! The oyster stew has become one of my standards on every visit and the pasta with seafood is phenomenal! This restaurant and bar has become one of my favorites and gets regular visits... There's no where in St. Louis where you can get fresher oysters or better seafood!!!!
Pasta with scallops and shrimp, asparagus, red peppers and pesto was fantastic! The oyster chowder was amazing my friends mentioned. I enjoyed the Manhattan Clam Chowder! Latia was fantastic and very friendly! Reservations were easy to make and were honored on same day. The Chardonnay from Sonoma called Folie a Deux 2012 awesome! We will return again when we come back to St. Louis!
This is a really nice place to relax and enjoy a beautiful sunny day. The service is courteous and attentive, and the steamed mussels and clams are delicious. I recommend the garlic beurre blanc if you can eat light for the remainder of the day (though my boyfriend preferred the Creole andouille sauce). Items on the menu here are a bit pricier than I am normally willing to shell out (get it??) for, but I left feeling satisfied and like the food and experience were worth it.

This is an average, run of the mill bread co. Why bother with a review and how did they get four stars??? Mainly because this is run as a social experiment where you pay what you choose and the money goes to charity. I'm not exactly sure what would happen if one asked to have their purchase rung through the register instead but it struck me as pretty cool that you have the option of donating the entirety of your payment to charity instead. I don't know if this concept has legs but applaud the company for giving it a go.
