I spend all my time in the Vodka Bar but do order food from the kitchen. The Vodka selections are awesome and all the food I have ever had has been wonderful. I recommend a few martinis and Russian Chips. Be careful with those martinis though, they are pretty awesomely strong!!

I've been coming to the vodka bar since Johnny left 13 Moons ions ago. He is a bartender worth following. A guaranteed good time when he is behind the bar. The martinis and White Russians pack a punch, and the crowd is friendly. Everyone loves everyone here. Super fun time always. Cheers!

Customer service does not exist in this restaurant. Trying to point out to the owner of the business on the flaws turned into argument. Never again.

This is not a place to go eat. It's a wonderful bar, though, worth 4 stars, even though the restaurant service and food are not great. The vodka bar is fantastic. If you are in an experimental mood, they will craft you something based on preferences you tell them, and it's ALWAYS good. Try their homemade infusions. Two tips: be sure to have a designated driver, and call to be sure they're open.

Walking into this place, I couldn't help get the feel of a creepy uncle's basement. So needless to say, I wasn't too thrilled to eat here. Even though the menu is pretty small with mostly pricey choices, I found a salad for about 14$. There are few salads that I think are worth over 10$ but this one was one of them. Very fresh ingredients and a balsamic vinaigrette that is out of this world. The service and borscht were also nothing to complain about. Not as awesome as Moscow on the Hill... But hey.. it's Robbinsdale.

Vodka is the anti-Jenny. It makes me unreasonable and about 50 times more paranoid than I usually am on a regular basis. I try to avoid it as much as possible. Anyway, I had about 3 cocktails and 2 shots and washed it all down with a beer. All of the drinks I ordered (not that I can remember what they were) were tasty. I started the night with a White Russian made from coffee infused vodka. It was good but didn't have the balance and flavor depth of a traditional White Russian. That's about where my opinion on the vodka ends. It's vodka, it makes me angry no matter what flavor it is. The food was surprisingly fan-fucking-tastic. I ordered the roasted duck which came with a cranberry glaze, roasted apples and a bed of rice pilaf. Does anyone really like rice pilaf? I really don't think so. With a $20 price tag, I was expecting something impressive. It wasn't food art by any means but it was tender, hearty and two of my favorite things.. Meat and fruit -together-. Our waiter was a lot of fun, but spent about 5 minutes taking out of focus pictures of the group. Our waitress was nice and came around often to refill our drinks. This restaurant didn't die down the entire time we were there. If I maybe had one more drink in me I would have dragged Sam and Dita to the dance floor. Sam's patented "potato sack" dance would have been perfect at a vodka bar. The bill was a disaster because everything was rang up together for a table of 9, all of whom seemed to be heavy drinkers. It took a very long time to figure it all out. But, the night was super fun and we'd go back in a heart beat. Shout out to Steve D. for being our sober-cab! And Shout out to Dita D. for hounding strangers for some balloons!

Had no idea what this place would be like when we met some friends here for a drink. I was happily surprised. The atmosphere was different. We sat in the bar area. It was kitschy, but not hipstery. I liked it. The bartender was awesome. The drinks were great. Definitely a fun place to hangout with friends. Not a place you might think of first, but once you try it, you will be glad you did.

Very unique style and feel inside the restaurant. Our service from Nicole was outstanding! The food and alcoholic beverages were of high quality. Might be spendy for some but it's well worth it!

This review is also only for the vodka bar. Two words: Bartender John. Out of all the Twin Cities bartenders I've encountered, John is the friendliest, funniest, and most considerate bartender I've ever come across. Also: TALENTED. Have an idea for a martini but aren't sure which one you want? He will make you original concoctions that will blow your mind. My friends and I were there near bar close on a weeknight and admittedly were the last patrons. John did not encourage us to leave but instead hung out with us while he cleaned the bar and we finished our martinis. He is a skilled conversationalist and leaves his bad days at home. As Karah mentioned below, decor is a bit dated (ok a lot dated), but you kind of get the feel of a Russian restaurant of old. I don't exactly hate it. I absolutely need to come back to try the food. This is one of Robbinsdale's best kept secrets!

Most important thing to note is that this place allows you to bring your own liquor! They also have a LOT of vodka options and some great Russian beers. I went to the New Year's party here last night. All the food was delicious. The MCs were amusing and the dancers were surprisingly talented. Something to note for non-Russians like myself is that meals tend to be very drawn out and are each separated by a minimum of 1 hour to drink and be entertained. For example, the party ran from 9pm to 3am, but we weren't served hot appetizers until almost 1am. Dinner wrapped up right at the end of the party, 3am. I will come back for this party every year possible!

I have to agree with parts of another persons review here that this place is of two different types depending on where you are. The bar is typical, and does offer an awesome selection of vodkas and such, but it is also just as uninspired. For me the restaurant side is where I want to be, the other review spoke how no one but ourselves ever seem to speak English, including the wait staff, but for me it is like traveling to another country and I wouldn't miss it for the world. The food is good, but you need to find the things that work for you. We usually order a verity of stuff and eat family style. The in house band and community of Russians is people watching at its best. The joy of life and sense of fun is always in the air, and if you try the flights of vodka from all over the world you will begin to get into the mood of things. Don't expect this place to reach of and grab you, it has it's own feel, but if you let it creep in and go with an open mind, you may have a really good time.

Good food. Great signature infused vodka drink. Terrible terrible service. You can starve before being seated.

As I see it, there are two sides to St. Petersburg Restaurant. If you walk into the bar, it looks like pretty much any bar in the United States would look - dim, neon lights, chairs, tables, a sleek black bar. You'll find people from all walks of life, but mostly they're Robbinsdale residents looking for a nice night out. They're likely enjoying the wide selection of incredible vodkas or partaking in some of St. Petersburg's signature cocktails, which run about $9/each and have quality ingredients. The service here is prompt and friendly. Walk into the restaurant and you're in for a completely different experience! I've been there plenty of times now and I have always been the ONLY English-speaking table; the waitstaff even sometimes asks if we'd like a table back in the bar. No thanks! The Russian community can be found out and in full force most weekend nights here celebrating birthdays, anniversaries, or weddings; the people watching here is entertainment unto itself. Take note that on Saturday nights, there is a live Russian band, complete with synthesizer and drum machine. Dancing is encouraged. The food, in my experience, is authentic enough although still uninspired. The vareniki (Ukrainian potato dumplings) are quite good and the Ukrainian sausage gets points for being authentic (a Russian friend refused to eat another bite after they realized that it tasted like what they had grown up with in the USSR). My recommendation would be to eat dinner somewhere else and then stop in for a nightcap. The vodka selection is seriously second to none and is fairly priced for the rarity of some of the labels. They also make a line of very nicely house-flavored vodkas - I cannot say enough good things about the black cherry vodka.

Come here if you like vodka. They even make their own AWESOME Kahlua for White Russians. Atmosphere is confusing - kind of like your Great Aunt's living room meets Miami Vice, with a little Eastern European dance club mixed in.

I love the previous review that said the decor is like your Auntie's parlor. I think Auntie literally has the same wallpaper in burgundy. :) To me, that just made the bar feel homey and familiar. There was a wedding going on in the restaurant, so the music coming from that side was pretty lively. We were perfectly happy in the bar though. It was 1000 degrees outside and cold vodka was just what we wanted. At first, I was taken aback by how many vodkas there were like flavored, Absolut, Skyy, etc. I guess you give the people what they want. There were also some really fun smaller production vodkas and internationals that made th list pretty well-rounded. The man got the white Russian with their house-infused vodka and I went for the bartender's vodka flight. I gave the bartender a few brands that I like to go off of (Chopin, Belvedere, Kremlyovskaya, Bison Grass) and told him not to pick anything like an Absolut. He laughed and brought me a pretty great sampler. The first was Pravda, another fave that I hadn't mentioned. So smooth. Sweet rye with a slightly floral tone. The second was a rye Russian vodka that was so strong! I passed that one over to the man. Third up, Tito's Texas corn vodka. Again, very smooth and a little sweet and earthy. Last up was Death's Door, a wheat vodka from WI. Such a great surprise. Very smooth with no bite at all. Great flavor. We also ordered food. Thank goodness, or I wouldn't have made it down the floral carpeted stairs after my flight! We started with the eggplant dip, which was so good. Nice and garlicky. I got the chicken blintzes. I can't do cream sauces, so I asked about the mushroom sauce. I had a second choice in my back-pocket, in case it was cream based. Our super nice waiter said that it was indeed, but that they would make me a different mushroom sauce to put on them - no problem. Totally unexpected and very nice. It was also pretty delicious. I really enjoyed this place.

The ONLY nightlife in Robbinsdale. I love this place. It is hard to describe, but half the establishment is a vodka bar catering to a mix of locals, hipsters, and trendy types. The other half is a large banquet hall that hosts parties of Russian families on the weekends, including cheezy Russian lounge singers and Euro-disco parties. Luckily, you can sometimes get seating at the bar that lets you watch the elderly Russians dancing and getting down. I have never had a full meal here (menu looks delicious but is a little pricey) but I love a plate of dumplings as bar food. Unfortunately, the kitchen closes around 10pm. And TOTALLY closes- I love their bloody marys but past 10 I can't get any veggies in it but olives (and you know I tell them to load it up with olives a man is hungry!). Reccomend the bartender's choice vodka flights- 4 shots of vodka for $12 at the whim of the bartender. Depending on his mood, you might get 4 amazing Russian vodkas, or one of the shots might be Absolut (this has happened to me). But the average quality of the 4 shots is bound to be high no matter what. The waitstaff at the bar tries hard to please and are pretty knowledgeable about vodka. I really want to somehow get invited to a Russian party here, anyone know how??

One of the best surprises in the area. If looking for something light, the bar area has great happy hour specials and a giant selection of vodkas for sampling. A caviar plate rounds out a quick evening out. The dining room is alive on weekends with full families dressed well (a rarity these days) and live music. I couldn't tell whether the songs were popular, Russian, or popular Russian, but it was enjoyable just the same. Food didn't disappoint, but I want to find out how to order off the menu. Plenty of groups were getting dishes that looked remarkable but weren't on the menu. Fully recommend the bar for a fun night out or the restaurant for a romantic dinner or a get together with the family. Either will be enjoyed.

I've only come here for the drinks, never ate here, not even an appetizer. Bar service is always friendly and large menu of mixed drink choices. Prices are a little high, but they don't mess around when they make a drink. I'd recommend it for a good place for a first date if you're just meeting for drink's. There is a Legion or VFW (I forget which) next store, if you get really hungry, a Heggie's pizza is delicious after a few vodka tonics.

We went to this establishment expecting to have dinner and a great time. We went to the bar first and the bartender recommended a parmagranite martini and guaranteed that if we did not like it he would mix us something else.. I gave him a good tip for the recommendation (expecting that it was his specialty) well needless to say it was TERRIBLE.. I think he used sewer water to make it.. when we asked for something else.. he ignored us.. UGH!!.. and I tipped this guy.. Well we did not chance dinner at this dive and went to an establishment that had folk with integrity.. Don't bother trying this place..

  • John M.

My buddy in I went in for dinner. It took five minutes for anyone to acknowledge us. Once we were seated, it was another five minutes of being ignored. So I figured we might just go ask if they served food in the bar. They did, so we decamped from the dining room and into the bar. We were seated almost immediately. Once we were seated, no fewer than four employees walked by us over and over without even a word. As we walked out, the bartender snidely told us to have a good night. So I don't know if their food or drinks are any good, but their service is some of the worst I've experienced. The plus side is, St. Petersburg is close to Pig Ate My Pizza, which gladly feed us awesome food without the decor of a spinster's boudoir.

I'll be the first to tell you that vodka's not my bag and I instinctively avoid VFW's (and similar places) like the plague. So, that being said, this vodka bar is conveniently attached to a VFW. I silently prepared myself to endure a couple solid hours of old people staring at me with vehement disdain while making audible comments about the poor life choices of people my age and struggling to choke down church basement style food. Thankfully (for me, at least) the two are pretty clearly divided as far as clientele and experience goes despite being in the same building. There must've been a wedding the night we attended as the main dining area was packed full of people dressed to the nines and dancing the night away. I felt comparatively underdressed until I looked off to the bar side of the place and saw some guy in flip flops and cargo shorts. Even so, It was strange being immediately surrounded by a casual atmosphere while women in dresses that would make prom night look tame were pouring in and out of the other side a few feet away. If you're the type of anxious person that worries about shit like that, you might want to step up your game a bit so as not to feel so slovenly. There are four or five house-made infused vodkas that they had available that night and--though I'd imagine the flavors are rotated--they were mostly of the fruity persuasion. I got hooked into trying a White Russian with their only non-fruit offering, the coffee infused vodka, and I didn't prefer it over the traditional drink. I drank it because... fuck yeah, booze, but it was rather akin to licking an iced coffee bean. However, it was a birthday bash for Chris and we were all ready to unleash our inner booze gods so my plans to order a normal one were snuffed out by a deluge of shots. I was cool with that. Speaking of the shots, none of us knew what the fuck we wanted. The guy waiting on us came up with several creative ones, however, and managed to keep us all at a steady buzz. Thank you, guy. The food: It seemed a little 'slap yo bitch up' costly to me given that I was picturing grey dick sausages, sour cream and mashed potato-laden everything because Russians. I reservedly ordered pierogies because the combination of butter, potatoes, bacon and dill seemed like the safe bet. They were pretty damn delicious, indeed, like little potato filled pouches of love. I also sampled the roasted duck (tender, slightly sweet and fuck yeah), the lamb chops (laughably small portion with two tiny ass chops but prepared very well without being gamey), the chicken kiev (crispy, seasoned nicely and packed with herbaceous flavors) and the roasted eggplant dip (smoky and much smoother than a hummus). Overall, I was very pleased and frankly blown away with how good everything tasted. There were hiccups to the night, though. Chris was the last to get his entrée due to them having forgotten about him ordering. I heard talk that regulars don't get the same level of glitz that newcomers do, and that was disappointing. The bill hadn't been split at all at the end (we were explicitly told it wouldn't/couldn't be) and nine or so of us had to struggle to drunkenly divide it. Climbing Olympus Mons would've been less daunting at the time. Truthfully, I'd go with a 3.5 star but I rounded it up since the 'better' outweighed the 'average' for the night. I wouldn't be opposed to going back whatsoever but I don't think I'd ever do so if I weren't in a group. It just doesn't have that one-on-one style feel to me.

Great place for a group of 8-10. Ask for the Vodka flight. Three or four bottles brought to your table to compare and enjoy! The pierogies are great too!

A good place to get cured from nostalgia about the USSR - if you have any. Indifferent service, so-so food, and a lot of people who came with the sole purpose of drinking vodka are a deterrent to those, who want to have some Russian food.

Loved this place! Went to the restaurant for the "girls night out". Our server brought the menus immediately and offered her recommendations. The food arrived pretty quickly, hot and delicious. My friends ordered some wine and I had an ice tea. As far as the music - yes, the music is "back (to 80s-90s) in USSR" but it brought back some good memories and everyone had lots of fun dancing and just goofing around. I don't think they offer live music daily, but we went on Saturday and they had a small live band. Overall, again, had lots of fun and definitely recommend.

This review is ONLY for the vodka bar. I went on a random Wednesday night with my boyfriend and a few friends because one of them had just moved in down the street. The decor is lacking, meaning I was reminded of my grandma's house. The lights are also flashy and pretty annoying. However, what they lack in decor they make up for in vodka. Our bartender John was amazing, and quite generous with the free samples of cocktails. I had a lemondrop martini and my boyfriend had a straight up martini and both were the smoothest, best tasting martinis we'd ever had. His had absolutely ZERO alcohol aftertaste, which I have never experienced elsewhere. The service isn't fast, but thats because the martini glasses are chilled in ice for at least 3-5 min. before pouring alcohol in. If you want an excellent cocktail and are fine with waiting a little while for service (because they are making you a delicious drink) this is the place for you.

This place gets driven past all day, everyday, and most people don't even know it exists. They don't do much in the form of advertising, aside from WOM. The regulars are dedicated and for good reason(s). First-time customers get treated just as well as the regulars. Just let Jonny know it's your first time there and he'll be sure to "make you something sexy." You won't be disappointed. The drinks are delicious and the variety of vodkas is extensive. They still have the regular mainstay liquors as well. One of their house specialties is the White Russian which is made with a custom coffee infused vodka. It is by far the best White Russian in town and many people will attest to that. I hadn't had much experience with authentic Russian food prior to visiting the St. Petersburg restaurant and vodka bar, but the food is incredible so don't be shy to try something new or else you'll truly be missing out. The Borsch, stroganoff, and pelmeni are all amazing, just to name a few. One more thing to keep in mind is that this place is closed on Sundays and Mondays. They have great happy hour specials Tuesday-Friday. If you are planning a large gathering or a formal event they also have an elegant banquet room with a large seating area, dance floor, and private bar. I highly recommend this place. It's acclaim is well deserved.

Russian cuisine, a great vodka bar and fine dining. You may feel you are under dressed for the main dining room or it is over decorated but worry no as neither is true. You absolutely must try the borscht as it is simply wonderful. There is great line up of evening entertainment in the vodka bar and it is a great place to hang out and socialize with friends. There are several other items on the menu I want to try on my next visit.

My father is half Polish (maybe more, jury's still out on that one) and half German. My mother half Czech (Bohemian) and a mix of English and Irish, so going to a bar on a Wednesday night isn't all that strange. Take into account the fact that I'm a Slavophile, graduated with an degree in International Studies with an emphasis on Eastern Europe, learned SerboCroatian and Russian, and traveled extensively in the region, it means that a Russian vodka bar is right up my alley. Why did it take me so long to update my review? Because their hours are crazy and I think I would need to do some next level type of mathematical equations to figure out the best time to go. They are closed Sunday and Monday. Weekdays they are open until about 10 or 11, but the kitchen closes around 9pm. We show up sometimes when they are supposedly open but it will be closed for a holiday or event. I give up. We make this our first choice but always have a plan B. Even with the uncertainty of whether or not we'll get our vodka on, I know that if their doors are open that I will be greeted like a long lost relative and treated to the finest White Russian this side of the Bering Sea. It's made with their housemade coffee infused vodka and packs a punch. If coffee isn't really your thing, have no fear. There are literally 100+ bottles of vodka to choose from. Trust me. I counted. Ruski Standard is definitely the drink of choice, as it should be. A dozen bottles of it dot the bar. You'll also find the other standards: Absolut, Effen, Finlandia, Grey Goose, Smirnoff and Svedka. Want the road less traveled? I suggest Rain or Charbay. They don't have the infused Charbay vodkas, which are the best, but they do have plain. And if vodka isn't your thing (blasphemy!), you can choose from a wide assortment of beers in bottles and on tap or a glass of red, white or rose wine. It's a full bar, so if you can dream it then they can most likely make it.

Went to this place for my work place holiday party. It's a beautiful place, but they charged my boyfriend and I coat check and no one else from the party. I'm not sure if it's because we are Asians, but no one else had to pay.

I've been to at least 100 weddings at this place. Most Russians have their weddings here. Starting to get old. Food is standard Russian with some American influence. Its not great, but typical Russian standard food. I prefer my moms. They try to hard. Beef stroganof is good. Borsh is ok. Olivie - cant really mess this up. Deserts could be better. Drinks--its a vodka bar. Drink. They've got. Its the real stuff. Service - typical Russian. Like a box of chocolates, you never know what you are going to get. Entertainment - pretty good. They got a little band and an old DJ. Music is about 15 years behind. Be prepared to do YMCA and ABBA. Decor - hate the lights, its always cristmas there. But overall, it works.

Great food, attentive service, lively bustling crowd, large tables celebrating events and hosting friends, live music, great vodka flights. The owner visited our table several times and checked on everyone. What happened to that kind of service elsewhere? We love this place!

Definitely worth stopping in on a Friday night for some sort of vodka drink! The bar tenders are very friendly and chatty if you're hoping to make a new friend at the bar or there is a live piano player if you're hoping to get lost in the tunes while sipping your white russian. I enjoyed the atmosphere almost as much as the drinks - they had all different ages represented and it was clearly a place that people go to to mark an occassion. I'll be back for sure!
