I spend all my time in the Vodka Bar but do order food from the kitchen. The Vodka selections are awesome and all the food I have ever had has been wonderful. I recommend a few martinis and Russian Chips. Be careful with those martinis though, they are pretty awesomely strong!!
I've been coming to the vodka bar since Johnny left 13 Moons ions ago. He is a bartender worth following. A guaranteed good time when he is behind the bar. The martinis and White Russians pack a punch, and the crowd is friendly. Everyone loves everyone here. Super fun time always. Cheers!
Customer service does not exist in this restaurant. Trying to point out to the owner of the business on the flaws turned into argument. Never again.
Stopped in for a late lunch Saturday afternoon. There was one other person the the restaurant. Our waitress was civil, but not friendly. The food took a considerably long time to arrive. I ordered a pizza that was listed on the menu for $13. I asked if it was possible to have an item left off and was told yes. When I received the bill, I was charged $14 for the pizza plus another $1.50 for the item left off. No upcharge was mentioned when it was requested. $15.50 for a personal size pizza is a bit much, $33 for a watered down lemonade, a pretty limited menu, and not so friendly service = won't be going back. Too bad, as we were regulars at Birdtown Cafe, it's predecessor.
The Chestnut Cafe was our destination for a lunch book club meeting. We were pleasantly surprised. The staff was so eager to please. Gordy and Jonathan Kruse have the ability to have a real gem here here. The food was tasty, people in our group had pasta, meatball sandwich, burger and the grilled ham and chheese with an egg on top. All of us were pleased and loved the little salad on each plate as well. You could tell that this is their passion. Gave it four stars because would love to see some specialty salads, you know how were girls want the most healthy options when we are out to lunch! (Honestly though it was fun to eat like we really always want too but don't because we "shouldn't"! This place is awesome and I can't wait to check out the breakfast and then the pizza!
Great menu, extremely high quality and good prices too. This is the only restaurant in the area that we go to when we are visiting from out of town. Fresh ingredients, greAt beer offerings, friendly!!!!!
Ordered for take out. Got the pork eggrolls, chicken mushroom chow mein, chicken and black bean sauce. Everything came out very hot, almost to the point that it was too hot as the black bean stir fry continued to cook, making the veggies mushy. Flavorvwise, I liked the egg rolls and the chicken chow mein, nice amount of chicken for the price. The flavor of the chicken with black bean wasn't quite what I expected. I'd probably try here again. The menus don't have any pictures so you really don't see what anything looks like before ordering. For dine in, it looks ok.
This place leans towards more traditional Chinese food, not the "fake Chinese food" as some have claimed. The food isn't Szechuan, so it's not overly spicey, but there is definitely a kick and some taste to it. Even my allergy ridden palate could figure that one out. The mandarin chicken was certainly plentiful. I made four meals out of one entree. Kazaam! Talk about bang for your buck. If you are able to stop by during the day, holy buckets, the entrees are cheap. A limited menu, but $4.99 for fried rice, wontons, and your entree? Heck yes! The inside is musty smelling and the service wasn't great, but if you are looking for a local dive bar version of Chinese food? This is your place.
Folks, it is Canton Garden! Not Szechuan Garden, Hunan, Sichuan, etc. Twenty One years in the same location! They have adjusted recipes, made menu changes, added more diverse regional cuisine, perfected cooking techniques not of their region, and keep evolving to stay fresh and in tune with current tastes. If you ate Chow Mien here twenty years ago they have a current version for you. If you ate here more recently you, probably, in the past few years seen new items on the menu to try. Now, I don't want to shock anyone, but, many of us are not known for adventures palates. Matter of fact I head the couple behind us crave something different and ordered Chicken Egg Foo Young! Usually, they just get the Vegi and the House version just sounded to daring! Not having been here for a few moths we looked at the new dishes and took the middle ground with Mongolian Beef and Roast Pork Low Mien (Cantonese style). Both dishes were more than good. They were perfect! The beef was tender, the veggis crisp, delicious. The Lo Mien was also exceptional. You can order spicy to taste from none to Mn Mild all the way to Mn Wild **** Now, if you happen to go by to check out the new mural painted on their historic wall by the city you can rediscover this little gem and try some new menu items or an old favorite done right!
I gave this place one more try, because we had a groupon and the menu online sounded amazing. Got to the place and the menu was COMPLETELY different. Very disappointed. $13 for a plain burger and fries at a hole in the wall establishment is ridiculous. Our server was nice enough, but once again the wait/bar staff were way more interested in each other and their cell phones than the customers. I will be very surprised if this place stays in business much longer.
The service is very slow, and I was not impressed with the Bloody Mary- but overall I really like the atmosphere and I would come back and give it another shot.
New management big thumbs down. Price point on the new menu is way off for the food quality. Biggest disappointment is the service. Terrible. Need more servers on or better trained that can handle the volume. Need a smaller menu, something that can execute better. Disappointment overall, used to be a good place, not anymore. Sad.
