First, I can't rate because of conflict in interest: I have leisure training as a chef, and I knew the owner's son as a member of my student group in college. 3 star is just random. Second, if you are Chinese, go to the owner and ask for customized Dong1 Bei3 Cai4 and you won't be disappointed with the value. Third, for those who find the food here tasting different, take a pH test of your favorite meat dishes and I can bet a dollar that your favorite, tender Chinese beef elsewhere would be more alkaline than normal. Please, think about it: 1. natural acidic meat tenderizer from pineapple costs over $1 to treat 10lb of beef 2. while industrial strength "meat tenderizing powder" with NaHCO3 costs about $.1 and does a better job by breaking the protein bonds of the connective tissue with OH- ions. 3. your mom is unlikely to offer you bad stuff to eat if you taste the beef here and it is as tender as your home cooking, it s not necessarily good (necessary vs sufficient argument), nor is it necessarily bad; but if your favorite Chinese restaurant makes something so tender that your mother cannot ever duplicate with her experience, very likely excessive tenderizing powder is used and I would dump that favorite. I patronize that place every Sunday 4pm in my dark green lexus.

I ate here once and honestly can't bring myself to go back again. Before my entree came, the server brought me some coleslaw. One taste made me realize that it was simply cabbage mixed together with mayonnaise... and the mayo tasted like it had gone bad. That pretty much made me lose my appetite for everything else. I had broccoli beef and was really disappointed with it. The beef was tough and almost inedible and the broccoli was under-cooked. The only good thing about it was that it was hot. The service was good, but the food made me gag. Keep on driving if you want some good Chinese food... this is not your place!

I was in the Hopkins Crossroads area on Saturday and wanted to pick up some take out for my son. I got a lunch special that was beef lomein, rice, and eggroll. I don't know if it was part of the lunch special that the eggroll was on the smaller side and didn't have anything memorable in it. The rice was a yellowish color, different from the usual browns. Still it tasted pretty good, as did the beef in the lomein. I sampled it for the sake of the review. On the window is a sign they are offering a Mother's day special, where mom eats free. I didn't take notes, so don't quote me. I think that's a great deal.

This restaurant offers either Americanized Chinese food, or the real Northeastern Chinese food. They do not have competitive advantage when they make Americanized Chinese food, and I think that is probably the reason why most people gave 2-star or 3-star ratings. However, if you ask them to make the Northeastern Chinese Food, they are truly the best!

This is a great place. Not so good if you care about dining in and a great atmosphere. But I always take out from this place and I gotta say their food is pretty good. I used to live in NY and was sad to leave because of missing out on the Chinese food. But then I found this place as soon as we moved here and I couldnt be happier. They take a while (usually 20 mins) to prepare your food, but when you get it you wont be disappointed. Definitely recommend them! Large portions and good food every time.

Location, location, location. You can't get much easier than this great location, Hopkins Crossroad and Cedar Lake Road. I have been here a couple times, but only for take-out. I cannot attest to the service otherwise. As far as take-out goes, they have always been very kind. You can call in your order ahead of time, or stop in and they do a good job of getting it to you quickly. I have never waited more than 20 minutes, even when its a full restaurant. Everything is good, I haven't had a bad meal here, but I think my favorite is the fried dumplings and Walnut Shrimp. It is a typical Chinese joint, typical selections available. The food always seems fresh and portions are large enough to share (especially if you get an app).

I have been here a handful of times and this is by far the most amazing gem of a place! The food is delicious every time and inexpensive for the portions. I have tried the king poa chicken and general chicken , both amazing! I would defiantly recommend this place and their cream cheese puffs! Only down side is I wish they had delivery.

I would have given them 5 stars but the location was hard to get to. I loved the food! We ordered sesame chicken and sweet and sour chicken from the dinner special and they were delicious. Skip the bad reviews this is a great Chinese place to have in your phone!

Got take out for lunch, shrimp and green beans was the best. Also had delicious shrimp lo mein and chicken and broccoli. Will definitely return. Kitchen staff were incredibly friendly, makes it the kind of establishment you want to go out of your way to patronize.

I've ordered take-out several times from Wang's. Calling in my orders has always been very awkward, the employees have repeatedly answered the phone saying "hello?" and ended the call saying "alright, see you later." No estimated time, no thanks, strangely unprofessional. However, the employees are always very nice when I am in the restaurant. The food is decent, always steaming hot even after I drive it home. Never had anything bad, but have never had anything I would call delicious, either. Prices are a bit above their worth, typically $9-10 entrees. I continue to order from New Wang's because there is just not many options for good Chinese food in the area.

Excellent chef's special. You MUST get this. Kind of dingy inside, but the food makes up for it.

Overall the food is ok and priced right. I ordered pepper steak, fried rice and egg rolls ....pepper stack was good...the rice was too soft(over cooked) and the egg rolls are tiny and 1.79 ea. other than that this is your average Chinese ... No thrills but acceptable

Wang's is a pretty typical strip mall Chinese joint. We ordered takeout on a snowy night. The restaurant seemed dead, but the take out orders were hopping. We ordered Cream Cheese Wontons, Chicken Chow Mein, Beef and Broccoli, Kung Pao Chicken, and Pork Fried Rice. Probably some of the better Chow Mein I've had in a long time. Disappointed with the Kung Pao. The chicken was breaded! What the heck? Flavor wan't bad, just a bit of a dry, odd mix. The pork fried rice was decent, albiet a bit dry. Didn't try the wontons or the beef. I think we walked out the door for around $45 which kind of seemed like a lot. Not phenominal food or prices, but not terrible either. We'll probably go back as I preferred this to Wok in the Park and Than Do.

I wish I didn't have to give this place such a poor review, but the facts are the facts. I will not be returning to dine here as we were so disappointed. We arrived on a Friday evening and there was only 1 other table dining in the dining room. They had a sign saying you get a free egg drop or hot and sour soup for eating in....GREAT we thought...except it was so bland and unappetizing that it was hardly a bonus. We were sat and the water glasses were so small. With any chinese food, I will go through so much water because of salt alone and I was left so often with a empty water glass. We were so disappointed after we were sat and looked at the menu were all set to order and a group of girls came in (asian) and this group would increase and decrease between 2 and 4 girls, and they were tended to. They had their food before we were even able to order. Yes we sat for a long time and waited just to order, with our empty glasses. After a bit of time another group came in so 4 tables were sat. Then we realized it was strange. One server would come out with a water pitcher and only fill 2 tables glasses of waters. The other server would come out and serve only our table and another. I have never seen this! 4 tables total and you wont fill water for all? It blew my mind! So i feel like my statements are racist above, but this was the truth and it made no sense. We sat waiting to order and watched these girls get food and we waited. watched a server come out and fill 2 tables waters and we waited. It was so odd! We weren't sure if the girls were perhaps family, but regardless the service was so odd and disappointing! The food was just as disappointing...not to mention incorrect! But rather than waiting, i gave up. I ordered a combo which came with fried rice, my boyfriend substituted his fried rice with white rice...we both got white rice. I got sesame chicken and he got generals chicken. We tried each others dishes and there was hardly a difference in flavor. The color was slightly different and my dish had sesame seeds on it, but given how similar they were we were bummed again. The flavor just tasted like frozen breaded chicken breast that was fried and doused in sugar sauce that't it. So much flavor was missing. Given the food was all boring and unappetizing, the service was horrible and well the venue was just not great...it was one of the few places we walked out of thinking that we have no reason to ever give them our business again.

Ok so I rarely would ever give five stars but Wangs deserves it. Don't come here to eat in however because it is scary inside and dated to the 60s but looks are deceiving! I have ordered Wangs 20 times now and the one time when the food wasn't 100% it was still better than any other place in town. The portions are very large and the food is fresh. The egg foo young is the best you will ever have!

    (5)
  • Mike S.

Very good food, better prices and large portions. The location is nice as its central and I wouldn't say its worth driving to but worthy if you live in the area. Can't wait to gorge myself on the buffet soon. Wife and I both loved our meals, will easily go back again

    (5)
  • Whitney G.

The entree is big enough for two, but the rice that they give is barely enough for one. I do like that they give a lot of creap cheese wontons in one order, and so far have been pretty satisfied with their service. It's close, which is convenient, but has yet to win me over.

    (3)
  • Mike H.

The fare at this restuarant is very Americanized. While the service was polite and friendly, the food was mixed. I ordered a chicken with broccoli and hot and sour soup for lunch. The main course was fresh, hot and relatively tasty. However the hot and sour soup was the worst I've ever had -- it had the consistency of latex paint. The egg roll was okay. For the area, there are much beter choices, especially if you're looking for more authentic Chinese fare. But if you're looking for "old-school" Chinese-American, this is the place for you.

  • Chad T.

I live near Wang's and get takeout there about once a month. Like other reviews say, they are lightning-fast when it comes to take-out. Most of their business must come from take-out since I hardly ever see anybody dining in the restaurant. It's typical Asian food, I really can't say it's much better or worse tasting than any I've had in the past. Their prices are very good, and their portions are absolutely HUGE. It's amazing how much food they can cram in those take-out boxes. I usually get three meals out of one order for about $8 plus a buck tip when I pick it up. A great option if you're hungry and want something quick.

  • Jason W.

I was in the area and based on the other two reviews I thought I would give this place a try. Like Timothy stated the place definitely has the look of your everyday Chinese place. I ordered my normal Americanized Chinese items, General Tso Chicken and cream cheese puffs. It only took 5 minutes and I was on my way. It took me 15 minutes to drive back to my place, but the food was still incredibly hot. I somehow managed to burn my mouth, so I am glad I didn't eat it right away. The Generals was alright. Not very spicy, but really good pieces of chicken. The cream cheese puffs were the best I have ever had. They are these envelope looking things stuffed to the brim. Normally there is only a small amount of cream cheese inside, but these were completely filled. They were also fried to perfection, not to crispy, but just right. If I am ever in the area again I will order from here for sure.

Pros: Food was decent. Price was really good Good quantity Cons: I just hated the way they reacted when i gave them the restaurant.com coupon. It was almost like i asked them to pay for my meal. The waitress who until that point had been smiling and courteous changed completely. I gave them a $25 restaurant.com coupon and she stopped smiling henceforth, wasn't very interested in serving with the same flair. Anyways, i wont be going there again.

Wang's was terrible! We went for the lunch buffet and it only had 10 items and half of those were empty. Took them 45 minutes to start to fill up the other items and by then we had to leave. they were also VERY RUDE about it. REALLY BAD!!!!

This is just what you expect in a chinese restaurant. The decor is the red wallpaper/mirror/paper lantern style common to these places. I have eaten in the restaurant as well as used it for take-out. The prices are great, and the food quality is very good. The egg rolls here are wonderful. They are very quick in getting a take-out order ready even if you do not call ahead. Bonus is Pepsi products so they have Mountain Dew!

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes.
