Went to Eden Avenue Grill for lunch on a whim and was delightfully amazed by the quality of food and simple yet delicious nature. Both the Tuna Melt with pumpernickel bread was well flavored and taste of fresh tuna and deliciousness. The Open face Horseness was really the highlight of the lunch with melted cheese perfection.

Been going here for several years. They do a nice lunch and they have some decent specials. It's a very cool building but the decor is basic and clean. They do have a back patio place but I prefer the mid century low slung inside. Some lunches can be grilled a tad greasier than I like but overall basic grill food done well. Yes they do attract a senior crowd but less geriatric than Pearson's had!

This is a great family owned and run business. I have been going here for years and appreciate that the restaurant has evolved to meet the demands of an ever critical clientele. I would recommend the new patio. It has a retractable roof similar to the union restaurant downtown. If you have never been here check it out. Great place for breakfast and lunch too.

I came here for lunch with my law partner the other day. The rather extensive menu had a lot of lunch place staples, but apparently the open face sandwiches are one of their specialties. The EAG puts their menus online without making you download a bunch of PDFs, which is greatly appreciated, and my partner thought it would be a nice change from the places on France and York Avenues. Before we left, I had been in the mood for a good salad, but it was one of the first cold days in a while, and I was disappointed by the descriptions of the salads, as they seemed to lack any imagination. So then I was eyeing a nice warm sandwich instead. This ended up being a pretty good call. I got the open faced Reuben, he got the Horsin' Around (mentioned in another review). We're both what you might call foodies, but not militant about it. Nevertheless, he won't finish something if he thinks it's not up to snuff. He seemed to enjoy his and I rather liked mine as well. Very tasty, very cheesy and great corned beef. Presentation is lacking, though. It's just a sandwich on a plate with some fries and a pickle. A little parsley or kale on there wouldn't kill them. The fries were good, but not great. Not too thin or thick, some skin on, but you can tell they come frozen. The pickle was meh. The atmosphere of the place is trying for a retro kind of vibe, but in a way that seems to try a little too hard. The walls are hung with framed photos of Edina and Minneapolis from the 20s and 30s, as well as some black and white portraits of people apparently well-known in Edina back in the day but just kind of random now. The booths are really narrow. Even if you're skinny, they don't give you much room to move your arms and your elbows kind of bang against the table. We had to ask to move to a table so we didn't feel like we were packed into a submarine mess hall. There's nothing special about the rest of the decoration or overall environment. It feels like it's been around for a while, but that's what they're going for, I guess. The noise level wasn't too bad, but there was a table of ladies playing mah jong over by the bar that started to get annoying after a few minutes. (I'm not hating on mah jong, my 80-year old grandmother is like the Paul Newman of the Chinese tile game) Even with a table cloth to dampen some of the sound, the clicking and shifting of tiles was grating. I presume this is a regular group, since the place isn't like a coffee shop that just invites people to hang out indefinitely. So if you go, ask to be seated at a table on the other side of the restaurant. Bottom line, it's decent food and I wouldn't complain if we went back there again, but not over places closer to my office like Tavern on France, which has a similar menu, but more flare and better execution.

There's something oddly charming about the neon signs, forest of fake planets, and other outdated 80s decor. Come here anytime between 4:30-6:30pm any day of the week, and you'll find a parking lot full of crookedly parked Cadillacs, Lexuses, and Mercedes. Recently, I stopped for a quick bite on around 6:20pm on a weeknight. The host took our name, and assured us plenty of tables would be available shortly. Like clockwork, several walker-dependent, well dressed guests shuffled out around 6:30pm, and we took were escorted to our table. The menu is full of monotonous, safe choices such as plain burgers, typical sandwiches, and a nightly dinner special - meatloaf, pot roast, liver and onions. Quick tip: get their early for the dinner specials they typically sell out. My boyfriend and I split the chicken fajitas and open face, smothered turkey sandwich. When considering cooking to the pallet of the typical customer, the dishes were everything I expected them to be - cooked well, but were unexciting and lacked any "soul". Even though the food's nothing to write home about, I still like the quirky charm of the place. I'd stop back for a convenient sandwich and good people watching.

My wife and I live about a mile from Eden Avenue Grill but have not been here in the 11 years we have lived in Edina. The day was perfect for a walk so we decided to try Eden Avenue Grill for the first time. We actually noticed they had outside seating for the first time in 10 years. When you walk into the joint, the first thing I noticed is that it was a little dark and there were about 80% elderly people. The owner was there though and he seemed like a good guy, and I think his boys were busing tables. He seemed like a real cool guy and it I was surprised to see the restaurant opened as a malt shop in 1977. Our waitress was a little goofy, she screwed up our bill by adding extra fries and stuff to it, they blamed it on a new cash register? Very odd and she was kind of slow. I ordered the Horsin' Around and it was amazing! Picture this.....An open face sandwich with lots of roast beef and a horse radish sauce under a layer of cheese and two strips of bacon on top. The fries were a little soggy, but they weren't bad at all, but I like my fries really crispy since I don't get them very often. I mean c'mon....How can you go wrong with this? It was sooooo good. My wife got the vegetable soup and a slice of corn bread and she loved them both. All in all, besides the bill screw up and the slow service, it was an awesome lunch. It would be 5 stars if it weren't for the side experiences.

First Impressions ...... We arrived and stood at the front not knowing if we seated ourselves or were seated ? After a few minutes a larger woman grabbed menus to seat us .. It wasn't the fact that she was a larger woman . But, her attire looked terribly sloppy and she seemed rather unfriendly. I was already not impressed. We sat down and looked at the menu and knew what we wanted right away ... So after about 5 minutes a woman comes asking... what we wanted to drink, but didnt ask to take our food order. A few minutes later, she comes with my coffee no cream .. So I reminded her ... 5 minutes later another person comes and brings us water. Still no cream ... so again I ask for cream ...... atleast another 5 minutes goes by and still no cream or server so we left .. It was 130 pm..So well after the lunch rush and there were maybe 5 tables in the restaurant and I counted atleast 4 severs running around .. I have been in the bar/restaurant business for 30+yrs . I have a great deal of patience when it comes to dining out . I also understand the concept that servers are getting cut that time of day .... This was way beyond my patience and compassion for being "in the weeds ? if that was the case ? and My 1st impression of the sloppy dressed employee sealed the deal for me . Not sure how the food was ? But it seemed a little spendy looking at the menu... I won't ever go back ....

The combination of a menu looking way better than the goods plus crappy service ruined this place for me. It was packed when we got there and sadly that made me think it was going to be good. the menu looked great to me, a whole page of unique open faced sandwiches and combinations of things you dont see all the time. Our waitress was a rude bitch. i know the job can suck, ive been there, but she was especially crusty. The 80+ age old woman in my group asked for coffee and a half an hour later asked again and the watiress had the balls to say, yes, im aware of the coffee, it is just finishing brewing right now. BULLSHIT. dont try to trick her cause shes old, you forgot it, admit it and bring it. our chicken quesadillas sucked, some items in them were hot some where cold and they forgot the sauce that was supposed to come with them til we asked, several times. the onion soup, we had been told, was the to die for item. i would barely cough for it, and why do they put half the cheese on the outside of the bowl where those of us who bite our nails cant pick it off. i like my cheese, but im not about to get a knife and go to town on the bowl. it was also freezing inside and on our way out, i had to point out a bloody band-aid on the floor to the host- when there is no way the servers and hosts didnt see this thing and just ignored it. i dont really care about it, it is nasty, but i more wanted to see if they would act surprised if i pointed it out to them. not too convincing of reactions. miserable staff with bad attitude+ mediocre food+ bloody band aid= one star

Went here last night for pot roast night with my mother-in-law, but apparently they sold out of it in an hour. Boo. Instead we got the pork chops, which were pretty tasty though nothing I couldn't make at home. It's kind of like an upscale diner. I think the reason that this place only has a handful of reviews is because pretty much everyone that was there were geriatric Edinans. None of the other stuff on the menu seemed that apppetizing. I'm not really one for open face sandwiches and the like. It was also kind of pricey if you wanted a real dinner instead of a sandwich.

I have to give Eden Ave five stars. One of the best things about this place is that the food they serve is fresh. They have nightly fish specials that are really good. They come with choice of a side and always fresh veg. It is truly like eating home cooked food. The open face sandwiches are awesome. The new berry and horsing around are superb. If you are looking for something unusual, this is not the place, but more like going to a friends house for dinner. It is a place I can take my family to and know we can eat healthy with all the fresh food. My 10 yro loves the bison burger, and I love I can get a side of fresh broccoli to go with it. The service is typically good but can be a tad slow. But when food is being made to order and not heated up in a microwave, that is to be expected.

This morning I met at Eden Avenue Grill with a group of 6 colleagues. We were greeted promptly and with a smile. Each of us got our drink orders, and then after a reasonable time placed our food orders. The server was attentive, but not too much. I ordered the Club Omelette. It was one of the BEST breakfast meals I have ever had, and breakfast is my favorite meal of the day. This is my second visit, and Eden Avenue Grill will certainly be a regular breakfast place for me . . . though I must admit that the lunch specials posted really grabbed my attention on the way out . . . just saying.

I'd agree with a lot of what other Yelpers have already noted. The menu sounds way more exciting than the food served and the clientele is on the elderly side. It makes sense because this place reminded me of Country Kitchen or Perkins (without the drunks). I stopped in with a few co-workers over lunch and had the Reuben. It was OK, but for $9 though, I wouldn't order it again. One of my co-workers also had the Reuben, and another had the "Hamburger" (as it was listed). They shared my sentiment on everything being pretty "meh." We ordered a basket of Sweet Potato Fries which was the highlight for me. Sharing seemed like the way to go, because f you'd like to add a side order of SPF to your plate it's $4, which seemed a little outrageous for this place. Overall this place was underwhelming. The service was fine, but $14 for an underwhelming lunch won't draw me back any time soon. Tip: The table next to us had cornbread and it looked amazing. I overheard them talking about how good it was too.

Not to be confused with the Edina Grill (also a great restaurant) this restaurant is a best-kept secret. It's the best place in the Twin Cities to have a private business breakfast or lunch as even when it's full, it's quiet. It's an easy location to get to, has adequate if not abundant parking, and is also a nice spot for a small happy hour gathering. The food is very good, very reasonable and there's something for everyone but nothing fancy. The service is good not excellent. Despite the fact that its been here for years, everyone I meet there has never been there and then says they will come back for sure.

Outstanding! Try the 'warren burger' open faced sandwich, the chili with home made corn bread, the turkey burger or... Strangely... Some of the best fajitas in the Twin Cities. Seafood is great (but runs out quickly). And the seasonal strawberry shortcake is a meal all on its own! Great service, casual atmosphere, one of the best kept secrets in Minneapolis. Five stars!

Father's Day 2011 - Dad picked the spot, so how could I argue? My Yelpster friends warned me of the lack of Gen Y, X, and Boomers in this spot, so I was prepared to be surround by some wise old souls (tried to avoid using the word "geriatric" there). But I can roll with that...heck, in comparison, my sprightly Grandma looked youthful at 73 (hey, she still lifts weights at The Y -- it pays). I kept it basic with the Club House sandwich. Nothing particularly memorable - the turkey was lumped into the middle of the sandwich, so I had 3 or 4 bites of bread + tomato and no meat. Frustrating. The sweet potato fries were great, but they cost $4 extra (on top of the $9 sandwich), so what the what. The dipping sauce with the fries had a killer kick, so I used it for the sandwich, too, which nearly salvaged the affair. My uncle loved his open-faced sandwich, "Horsin' Around" (roast beef). Then again, the man loves to eat and is easy to please, so that may not be a great indicator of quality. Those who ordered salads were impressed with the portion size, but not blown away by the taste. We had brought our own cake to celebrate Father's Day and my birthday...and paid a nifty little plate charge for them to bring us 8 plates and a knife. I get it, but really? That dropped it from 3 stars to 2 stars. We had just racked up a bill of around $100, then you need to charge us a plate charge? Maybe that's par for the course in this area, but still lame.

I have been here several times for lunch and have always enjoyed the tuna sandwich and chips. Their clam chowder soup is another favorite of mine. I have not enjoyed the Caesar salad dressing, a bit bland. The staff is friendly and attentive most of the time.

My friend and I had a great birthday lunch. Service was prompt, and great with Whitney. The Chicken Avacado Quesadilla was soooo good. The room was cozy and warm - a plus for January 6. The ice in the parking lot was a bit frightful but that is how it is this week. This was my first visit with The Eden Ave Grill. I plan to return late spring to check out the outside dining. Do they have coupons? I forgot to ask,.

We went there for "Pot Roast Night" on Wednesday. Simply great comfort food with a cocktails available. I have been there for breakfast many times and an easy place to meet for a business breakfast. Downside is it isn't hip or elegant.

Excellent food and service! Brunch, lunch or dinner are all yummy! Very busy for Sunday brunch, as usual. They have added a beautiful patio with a retractable roof. Very nice!

We were a large group of 30. we were seated in the patio . It was JULY. the patio is inclosed but no air conditioning and the manager had only 2 small fans. He did not seem to be very concerned about the comfort of his customers. It appeared they had a heating element for winter but nothing for the summer heat. Thus the one star. The menu was limited because of the large group. The food was okay but not anything special. The waitress was excellent serving a large group. This is not a place I would recommend.

I really want to give this a better rating as the wife of the owner is a long-lost, estranged relative, but I just cannot. The food was just so plain! It appears as if the restaurant chooses to cater to an older clientele which is fine because that is what they have so it works for that genre. Service was so-so. Restaurants always forget my milk because I ask to have it served with my food and not before and this restaurant was no exception. Nothing stood out as memorable. I would suggest going elsewhere unless you like simple food. I noticed other reviewers mention the owner being on hand but we didn't have anyone other than the waitress come to our table.
