I love NuWave and really worried that once I moved to EMU, I'd never have NuWave again lol but I was so happy when I was on my way to Krogers and saw it right across the street! I go there at least once a month when I give myself a cheat day or just have a really bad day. It's much faster if you call your order in and go pick it up because they only have 1 delivery driver and he always has a ton of orders.

Very good food for a small run down place off Michigan Ave. The chicken is really good. I come in pretty regularly and get a 40 piece whole wing. If you haven't tried this place you should. Good food comes from places you definitely wouldn't expect.

The prices here are reasonable and the food is good. They run nice deals on bigger portions, making it great if you are sharing with a crowd carry out style. They have coupons and will often let you have food at the coupon prices even if you don't possess one before you go in, just ask because they are pretty nice. They also will generally give you some coupons to take home too. They have very nice chicken, decent catfish (I prefer the place down the street) and excellent shrimp. I have not tried the ocean perch or whiting because I am not a fan of either anywhere. I think the crispy yet juicy chicken wings are my personal faves. I would have to say as a general rule I find the chicken and shrimp here to be the superior options to any of the fish options. The typical fries, small portions of slaw and white bread are nothing to write home about. We like getting the chicken to go on its own instead, delaying the heart attacks and saving some calories by eating it with our homemade veggie or salad type sides at home. Give it a whirl if you are nearby, it makes a quick dinner at reasonable prices.

You do not have to watch Food Network to discover that unique eats can appear at unexpected places & times. Nu Wave is part of a Detroit area small chain of fish & chicken take-outs. It managed to take root during hard economic times, at a location (E. Michigan Ave., across the street from Kroger) that has been ravaged by the (mismanaged) U.S. Auto maker dark comedy for over a decade. The surprising success of the Ypsilanti Township Nu Wave is partly a testimonial to the food and partly due to the (owner?) Manager. The real test of a small business is it makes it despite serious economic conditions. The barely competent cream-off- the- top type business wannabes crumble first. But the savy small business person can make it and the talented can actually find a way to thrive. (I had three uncles & aunts who climbed from abject poverty- when there was no government welfare- to small business success.) Nu Wave seems to be thriving despite all odds being against it. First there is the UNIQUE FOOD. Like the boss tells customers, "our chicken tenders are unlike any you have ever had, guaranteed". He is right. I am not even into chicken tenders but these tenders actually are tender and flavorful. They are not the dry little round blended meat things the drive-by burger joints serve up with sauce to cover up the lack of flavor. Nu Wave fried shrimp and fish is excellent too. The french fries are unique. Our family members never visited any place with fries being a chief motivator but Nu Wave fries changed that! The cole slaw is different as well. It seems to be made there, not from some bland food preparation service. That might explain why you get only a tiny medication dose container- like serving. Nu Wave benefits some from the poorly managed Michigan Ave. Happy's Pizza a few miles west. The staff rubberizes the (superb at other Happy's Pizzas) Happy's jumbo shrimp often enough that Nu Wave is hands down the best place around to get reasonably priced quality breaded shrimp and Ypsilanti has its solid shrimp and fish fans! The two men who man the kitchen (they are kin I believe) are friendly, take their cooking seriously and show business acumen. They seem to truly enjoy business and people. They are affable & seek to please customers. Tthey have a steady flow of regulars, which I have seen them bend over to accommodate. (Unlike the present Ecorse Road "Pea Pod Inn" crew who have the odd practice of charging, even regular customers, 45 cents for hot mustard because a few customers want several packets when they are free) I do not care for the bread that is a bed for the food but then I do not like white bread. Where I grew up bread is food & food is heavy whole grain rough breads. To my surprise, I have heard regulars ask for extra bread. Somebody eats it; Just not me. But then, I like dried fish and Kimche. Hey, this is no Red Lobster or Captain's Crab Shack but you don't leave broke or weighted down in fat spooned to you in layers (disquised as Frenchified sauces, butter, soups, baked potato creams, etc). Hey, I'm one of those primitives who marvel at why people ruin a high quality expensive steak with cheap steak sauce or destroy wonderful fresh salmon with some high salt and fat filled French-a-fied sauce, never to enjoy the natural glories of the meat or fish, for which they shell out $25 & more. Oh, the sacrifices some people make to gloat superior over their poorer fellows. Well, you can leave the $400 duds and choking stuffed shirt at home and stuff youself instead with good eats and friendly service at Ypsilanti Nu Wave

we were thrilled with the food the first few times but its not the easiest place to call ahead & order or to ask a simple question on the phone, which obviously means ordering delivery is like a crap shoot in the backroom of nail salon off 8 mile. the first delivery was great all around, amazing price, decent food & the only thing missing was the advertised "bread & coleslaw" but, just as i thought it must have been an oversight that i will mention the next time we order... we found the severely smashed mayo-stained bread on top of one of those paper cups u get asprin at the hospital in, dissolved w/ a tablespoon of cabbage. so we laughed & loved nu-wave enough to order several more times. this is the last time. check your orders and the totals of your orders and do the math yourself before giving your credit card number to anyone that makes you feel like you are speaking a foreign language. no disrespect to anyone with any form of language barrier, thiss is not the case at new wave. they simply act as. if what u ask for or order is not for u to decide and they cut u off to stifle any request. when we got our food 2 hours later no breadd (for real this time) and no voleslaw or soda. had to call 3 times asking for refund. they hung up and its now 3 hours later and delivery guy brings me 2 cans of pop. no bread no coleslaw no refund. this woulda been so much simpler with an i'm sorry, or an admission of simple mistake not ignoring a customer &cting like i made a mistake by paying you to do a job u advertise. never again will i trust a place that treats a customer so badly

Wow; where do I start. I've eaten at other Nu-Wav location before, so I'm familiar with how they cook both there chicken and fish. With that being said, this location needs work on their seasoning practices. I ordered orange roughy 3 pc dinner, no coleslaw extra bread, also a 10 pc of Jumbo Shrimp. The Roughy was way to salty and slightly over cooked.....with a deep water trout all you really need is cornmeal, salt, pepper and maybe some OLD BAY® Seasoning. While the shrimp was a nice size, the seasoning was also too salty, fries was ok, expected steak fries. No extra bread and they put the coleslaw in with the dinner. "People"...... is all about details..........my overall experience was a 4 out of 10. I will attempt to visit this location again, and order the chicken just to see if its any better.

The customer service at this establishment is beyond poorly. I ordered chicken strips and fries today for my lunch and was so excited to eat it, because I love this mail from there. I got back to work open my box and realize that the chicken strips were no bigger than the size of my right index finger and are usually the size of my entire hand also the fries were crinkle fries, and I absolutely hate those fries! They never have the style fries and their chicken strips are always huge. I called back to complain about this and spoke with the manager, she was very unreliable and rude. She did not want to offer me a refund or anything, her name was Keisha. I told her to have the owner give me a call today, I'm still waiting. I will never in life eve here again, the customer service is absolutely beyond awful.
