We live in the area, so we walked in this afternoon, and it was definitely worth the visit. The Lady at the front was so nice, and gave both of my kids a free cookie for coming in. Then, after we were all rung up, she charged us less than the prices posted. Yay! The cupcakes were decorated so, so pretty. They had Disney Princess' and the frosting looked like the dresses. My 3 year old LOVED them. However, she picked a SpongeBob cupcake for herself. Don't ask me why... I think Sponge Bob is the most annoying character ever, but I'll stick to the review. The cannoli was VERY GOOD. The flavor of the peanut-butter bar and the cake for the cupcakes were just okay to me. Not incredible, just kind of plain. Therefore, I could only give the review a 4. I would have given the CAKES a 3 and the cannoli a 4, but I felt like the customer service was SO good, that i couldn't just give them a 3 - they were truly nice, Michigan people. Again, worth a visit for the Cannoli's - AWESOME.

"Tours for little children are a weekly event at our shop" The above quote came from the company website. I find that quote funny after listening to my wife's story after her one and only visit with a Mom's group and our children. I won't waste too much time with this review or bakery. The majority of employees acted as if they didn't like children, really didn't like the parents, and seemed extremely "put-out" by the new business. The kids had fun, however kids can find a way to have fun in bad and uncomfortable situations. There was little flexibility.

I've been to Mary Denning's a number of times and also a number of other bakeries in the area. Mary Denning's is the best. Everything I've ever had there has been excellent. She's creative without getting weird.

This is the best bakery in Westland. That's not saying a lot, but it is. I have had their muffins, peanut butter bars, and cookies. They were all good. While they have cute cakes, you won't find a lot of fancy pastries here. They are dependable whenever you need to make a run for quality baked goods, but I wouldn't drive from out of town for them.

Mary's not here no more the guy sold me a one layer cake I though I was ordering a 2 layer! he should of told me it was one layer when I ordered who the hell orders a 9" one layer cake round? And charged me $26 for a half of cake! With a really big box! I going to ask for half my money back or else! Then the cake had a lot of air bubbles in the cake mix like it had too much grease in the pan or cake mix!

Mary is enjoying her retirement which is a great thing after years of hard work. But the new people who took over have destroyed her good name and product. Go somewhere else.

Oh, Mary. Why did you leave and let these clowns take over? This new ownership is exactly the reason the one-star review was invented. It doesn't get worse than this, everyone. Stay far far away, and let this place go out of business.

Be warned there is a new owner. Unsure why Mary would leave name on such on an unworthy product. Stay far away. The new owner assured that the minion Cake would be great. It was half the size, same cost and appears as if a novice decorated it. The lines on the writing were not straight and the drawing matched the writing. All around a poor experience. When displeasure was expressed with the work he said he didn't want our business.

Coming here is a challenge as they have short hours and always seem to be closed. Given that it is right by one of my used book stores, I am often over here but rarely have a chance to stop in. For instance, they are barely are open for business on weekends, which is frustrating. I found the pasties here to be decent but compared to others I have had, not too impressive. They will do in a pinch but I would not rush over or make a special trip. I am picky though. The rest of the baked goods have seemed to follow the same pattern, decent but nothing that makes me sit up and take notice. Cakes and muffins tend to be better choices than cookies or bars in my experience. I do appreciate they cater to the gluten free as well as the sugar free crowd. That being said, I thought the sugar free cake I got for my mom was merely ok. It does beat having to bake them myself but that's not a ringing endorsement.

We have driven a long distance for many years to buy all our birthday cakes from Mary Dennings. The frosting is light & delicious & the cake is delicious. The cakes have fun designs, & they will make nearly anything you can dream up. Their blueberry muffins are large, moist, & amazing. We have done 4 field trips with various groups & had wonderful experiences every time. The employees engaged the kids & were courteous, patient & kind. I was surprised that other reviewers did not have similar positive experiences as all our business with Mary Dennings over the years has been wonderful.

After going to Mackinac City and getting pasties last weekend, I couldn't wait to get home and have really good pasties from Mary Denning's cake shop. The pasties here are frozen but homemade. For around $5 a piece, you can pick some up, take them home and bake them in your own oven. You not only get the delicious pasties, but your house smells like you can actually cook, too! The only baked goods I've tried from here are the muffins. A friend had stopped by the bakery on her way to my house to get something else, and they gave her a bunch of muffins too, since she was on her way to a party. It's great doing business with a small, local shop. Besides giving my friend the bonus muffins, they also threw in a chicken pot pie with my last pasties pick up. Free is always good! If you've used Mary Denning's for cakes before, there's now a sign on the wall about a $10 credit if you bring in a picture of a cake they made for you. They're trying to compile a book of the cakes they've made over the years.
