got carry out from here for the first time today. I got the pad Thai curry (no spice) with scallops and it was really good! the scallops were large and soft. I was surprised by their size. my only complaints would have to be I wanted a little more scallion and another lime or two for acidity. I also got the Thai iced tea and omg it was amazing. I asked my boyfriend to go get me another one. I'm pretty sure I'm gonna be addicted to them. my boyfriend and son both highly enjoyed the chicken teriyaki. definitely recommend this place, gonna be a regular spot for us now!

I've been to 25 Thai places and this is about the best. Good food, great price. $6.89 for lunch chicken pad Thai.

Absolutely delicious Thai food! The hot and sour soup was some of the best I've ever had and their shrimp rolls were excellent. My husband ordered his dish hot and he could have gone hotter (he's insane the way he can eat hot food). I ordered mine mild and it was perfect, mom ordered no spice and that's exactly what she got. Very friendly attentive waitress. Even the customers were talking to each other and making recommendations! Dining room is very tiny, FYI.

Stopped by here after visiting a client for work. Let's just say I'm glad I had to drive out here. The restaurant does appear to be small, but we were fortunate enough to come in when it wasn't too busy. Being the spicy food junkie that I am, I ordered the Pad Thai Curry and asked for it to be hot. The spice level was just right for me. There was really nothing wrong with this place, and I hope I have business out in Southgate again so I can eat here.

absolutely delicious! great prices, great options, large portions, fresh and hot food. good service as well! almost feels like a hole in the wall -- tiny dining room and almost couldn't find the location. however, I was in a hotel shuttle so maybe that's why. regardless, if you enjoy Thai food, this place comes highly recommended from a Thai food fanatic!

I've been here a couple of times and the food was good. It wasn't amazing, or so good that I wanted to rush right back, but I'll certainly return when in the area. Funny story about dining-in here... My husband and I were enjoying a late-ish dinner one night. One of the employees had brought her son to work that day. He was maybe 2 years old? He came up to our table and chatted away (in 2-year old speak that we couldn't understand). I thought it was odd that his mom didn't scoop him up away from our table (we were paying customers), but we both like kids, so we played along and tried to figure out what he was talking about. No luck deciphering his message and after a few minutes he wandered away again. Maybe 5 minutes later he walked back up to the table and started chattering again. Then he reached up and without a moment's hesitation stuck his finger in my husband's drink. At that point his mom finally came and swooped him up and took him in the back. We just thought it was kind of funny, but the woman seemed mortified. They promptly brought my husband a new drink, so all was well in our books. We weren't expecting a fancy dining experience, after all. Just keep in mind if you dine here, you might be dining with unexpected toddler entertainment... and if you do, watch your beverage! We'll probably stick with carry-out in the future.

I am completely in love with the green curry from Thai Place. I have only ever ordered carryout from this restaurant, but I have been happy every time. Proportions are extremely generous, it usually takes me three days to finish an entree. The heat level can be very intense, so be sure to ask for only what you can handle because there may be tears. I usually bring my own tupperware container for the meal because the sauce can come out of the styrofoam containers they use for carryout. They have always accomodated this request. Great place.

After being told numerous times to try Thai food, I finally went here after reading all the reviews. All I can say is I am in love with this place. The hot and sour soup was AMAZING, the Pad Pak, out of this world. The food is fresh, veggies in the entree were still crisp and not overcooked. I will be going back over and over!!

Great food. Wait staff is fast and friendly. The only draw being the dining area is very small. Feel like your sitting with the other people there. Better for take out.

Wonderful Thai food, best in the downriver area. Great staff, very friendly. Only thing I actually miss about living in Southgate is this place. Now open on Sundays which is great and probably a good call considering how busy it was the last time I went there on a Sunday. Hopefully they can locate to a slightly larger spot for dine in but other than that a great place.

What this place lacks in atmosphere it makes up for it by taste. The walls are all banged up, but who cares, the food was outstanding. Good food, good prices, excellent service. Very quaint but tidy. Will go again. Thei noodles are as smooth as satin. Yummy!

I was so excited when this place first opened and even more excited when I dined in and tried their food for the first time! Lately, I've been getting carry out and it hasn't been nearly as good as when it first opened and I ate inside. The food has all of the flavor that you expect from a Thai restaurant, but unfortunately lacks the extras that I would normally hope to find in my Pad Thai. Barely there chicken and one small chunk of green onion. *sad* That being said, it's good in a pinch if you're craving Thai, but doesn't hold a candle to Sala Thai in Eastern Market. The search for nearby perfect Thai food continues...

Lunch is only $6.50 and it comes with free soup if you eat in. Not sure why they call it hot and sour soup, it is just hot! I ordered Gang Kew Warn with fried tofu and medium spice. The dish had lots of tofu and they also did not skimp on the veggies including red and green peppers and eggplant which is my favorite. The meal came with an extra large bowl of rice. I almost asked for Hot in case they tone down the spiciness level for Downriver. However the green curry was definitely a perfect Thai medium spice level, requiring four glasses of water!

This is my favorite Thai restaurant in the Detroit area. In particular, they do an excellent job on the Pad Thai Curry, which has a thick, flavorful sauce (unlike most places I've gone, in which the sauce tends to be thin and uninteresting). I also like that they ask whether I would like steamed or fried tofu instead of just assuming one or the other. Finally, their spice levels are appropriate - I get what I expect when I order Medium, and my wife gets what she expect when she orders Mild. Overall, a solid, good place to eat. The only complaint that I have is that the inside is just a few tables in a room - I assume they do a lot more business with carryout than dine-in, to the detriment of the dine-in experience. Still, it's perfectly fine, it's just not quite nice enough to bump up to 5 stars.

Top notch food, excellent service both take-out or dine in. If you like it spicy ask for Thai hot and you will not be disappointed. I ordered the Beef Pad See Ew with medium spice and it was fantastic.

Food is average Thai. For the area you are limited on Thai so you have to settle for places like this. I eat here often and will never eat in the restaurant again, take out only. It is one of the most uncomfortable atmospheres to eat in. Very small, no music, sometimes their kids run around. One of the only times I dined in their kid came up to my table and stomped on my foot and kept annoying the patrons. Overall, average Thai and only good for carry out.

Babe just brought some home. First I was mad because he was home late. Then I smelled the food. Changed up my whole attitude. The food was delicious. The shrimp was a decent size. The portion was great. Enough to save some for lunch, tomorrow. And Thai doesn't taste bad, reheated. My new favorite place.

Stopped in here with a large group of people from my work within the last two weeks. The service was quick considering the size of our group. Between us all we tried more than 3/4 of the menu, and none of us had something we didn't like. We were all treated to the lunch special prices, so we were all out out the door in under $10 for the meal. I was impressed with the quality of the food, it was my first time trying Thai cuisine. I'll definitely be back. The only small hiccup we had was their credit card machine was not working properly. Eventually it worked, but it took longer than it should have to pay for some of our meals. Then again, we were each on our own ticket, which probably caused them to have more hassle than it was worth as well. It was a non starter, and didn't impact the experience at all.

A charming little restaurant that dishes up really good and close to authentic Thai food as it can get. It's sort of the better Thai restaurants downriver without it being quite americanized. The host spoke thai, so did the chef/cook and even their kids that run around. This is a clear indication that this is a true Thai restaurant. The spice level on their dishes is no joke as well, so if you're a true enthusiast, you'll definitely respect this joint. We had their coconut curry with squid and their drunken noodles. Both were super delish, I never had both these dishes and it was phenomenal. I couldn't really have a basis and it is now my measuring stick for coconut curry and drunken noodles. This place has tables for you to place your food in, chairs to sit and the dining area is heated in the winter and cooled in the summer. What more can you ask for? A person to bring you your food and fill up your water glass? They done that too. WOW!! This place thought of everything!! Life is awesome when the glass is half full! I've been looking for a good Thai restaurant since returning to the area a couple of years ago. Sadly, I drove past Thai Place countless times before actually stopping in. I was wrong. I should have stopped in long ago. Lunch dishes are reasonably priced (about $6-7), and free hot and sour soup is included if you dine in. Spicing options range from mild through double extra hot. (I like a lot of heat and I find that the "hot" option is pleasantly so. I'll be back for extra hot when I am feeling adventurous.) The place seems to be family operated and the staff is very friendly. The dining room is small, but well decorated. I have already recommended Thai Place to friends and look forward to return trips in the near future.

Decent prices, good food, and always nice. I love this place! If you are new to trying this get pad cashew chicken and ask for the spice on the side!

My family and I love this place. The food is terrific, and very reasonably priced. We are usually able to eat twice off of a dinner special. We are really glad we live so close to this place.

Really good! We got the thai fried rice and they were more than accommodating when customizing our order. Great thai iced tea as well!

#114, thai hot. Enough said. I love this place. I love that one order lasts me two days. I love how nice the host is. I love how when I ask for "thai hot, not white-people hot", I actually get a hot dish! I love that they are cheap (or at the very least, reasonably priced). I loved their tofu Todd and beef salad. My favorite love of all: Panang curry. I could have eaten here almost everyday. (Fortunately/ unfortunately, we recently moved to Columbus, but if I could have taken the Thai Place with us, I would have!)

The walls are banged up and the rugged is well used from all the foot traffic, but the food was excellent. I have been to Thailand before and this is pretty authentic. Thai waiter was pretty cool and attentive and the food came out at a reasonable time despite the heavy crowd.

Had take out from here last Sunday. We ordered shrimp pad Thai, chicken pad see ew (sp), hot and sour soup, and vegetable spring rolls. Pad Thai was bland, pad see ew did not taste the same as other Thai places we have had it from. Tastes like it was missing something. Hot and sour soup was horrible! Way too salty. I couldn't even eat it and I love salty food. Spring rolls were the highlight of the meal. Huge disappointment after reading all the great reviews this place has gotten. We will try another place next time.

This was the first Thai place I ever tried and I was an instant fan. The waitress is very nice and very helpful. I always special order things and they've always gotten it right. I recommend going one level of spice below what you think you want and add to it with more chilli sauce. My wife and I usually get a spring roll and I like the Thai style hot and sour soup. Both are delicious. The food choices are huge so be prepared to have lots to take home. I could easily make multiple meals out of anything I get there. One who dines in should note that they are a very small resturant and there isn't a lot of room to sit but this really hasn't been a major problem for us since we tend to make this a late night choice before they close.

I think that this is the best Thai restaurant downriver. Huge portions, and absolutely delicious!! 2 people could easily share a dish and still have leftovers.

What can I say. I drove by this place every day for the last two years and never knew it was in this little strip mall. Thanks to Yelp I was able to find it. Food was outstanding. Yes it is a very small restaurant. Your best bet is for carryout. Food was outstanding. The carryout containers were sturdy/rugged and excellent for keeping your food fresh for lunch the next day. Portions were plentiful and everything tasted great. Spice was just right as ordered. Will definitely be back there again! Thought it was a little pricey, but no complaints.

My first time here recently moved to the area from out of state. Ordered a simple and common Thai dish beef salad I asked for extra spicy. It was terrible no sticky rice the rice I was given was dry and Uncle Bens style and I had to ask for chop sticks 3xs, no fish sauce at the table, I was really dissappointed in the spicy. I requested chili so I could do it my self. Of course no Thai chilis but the dry over the counter mess. Whack all the way around the lettuce was something I would put on a hamburger "ice burge" and no other veges but the onions and cilantro. Even the server knew the menu selection was whack. If you don't know about real Thai food come here it is a clean place kinda itty bitty inside but clean.

Friendly service, huge portions and pretty good food. The entertainment provided by Tate was an unexpected bonus! First time I've been asked how spicy I want my Pad Thai, glad I got the mild..

It is not too often I write about downriver establishments. Why, you say? *scratch head* I am too embarrassed to try giving reason. Far too sad that I don't get out enough there. I need to seek advice on that. Dr Phil... help. Anyway... Thai Place... yes, THAI PLACE!!! I can say without doubt that this is a hidden gem. Small? Hole in wall? Downriver?? Spend too much time thinking about this and you deserve your noggin thrashed mercilessly with large stale ginger root!!! The shrimp rolls... *gulp* getting dizzy ...they are SO GOOD, OH SO GOOD! PEANUT CURRY WITH TOFU! Oh sorry for yelling. Tom Ghai soup (may misspell here). The food is great and wife-san much appreciates that. It is worth the trip and a pleaser. Cons? Only that they have website that could use update. Oh and maybe if you too sensitive to hot foods (Mild can feel like med-hot). Move your feet to Thai Place promptly. Thank me later.

  • Shaun P.

The freshness in these Thai dishes is uncanny. Every component or spice that is mixed into the entree has so much flavor as well. I was surprised to see this little gem tucked away in a strip mall. I had always passed it and never paid much attention to it until I read some reviews on Yelp. Most Thai restaurants have tendency to overcook the vegetables and the protein can be tuff. I love my veggies with a touch of crispness and that can only be done if the produce is fresh and is not precooked to speed up the cooking time. When eating any dish here rest assure that any bias you may have will be changed because the food preperation is just that good. All the entrees are very typical of most Thai restaurants so don't worry all the usual dishes are there to enjoy. The place itself is small but, there are a few tables to sit with a companion to dine in if you choose. This place is not good for groups because of the size. If you're looking to do carry-out this place is an excellent option.

Maybe I have been spoiled by Bangkok 96 and that little Thai Place in Ham-Town????? You see where I am going with this...... Since I have moved, Bangkok and Ham-Town is now a bit of a hike. Thai Place has to suffice. Unfortunately, I only enjoy their 'safe' dishes. By safe, I mean run-of-the-mill ordinary items. I have tried several items on their menu and the only thing I truly enjoy is their Chicken Fried Rice and Spring Rolls. I tried their Pad Cashew (Thai Style) and was shocked by the lack of flavor. I tried their Gang Gai (which is usually my favorite Thai dish) and was disappointed with the texture of both the sauce and the chicken. The flavor was okay but there was a gritty texture I just couldn't get past. As for their spice levels, I am a wimp when it comes to spice so I always order the mild. Sometimes their mild is on fire and for me, almost unbearable. Other times their mild is SO mild, the dish is bland/boring. There is no consistency with this place. Their vegetable and chicken Pad Thai (noodles) in particular stand out for this fact. I have had both style noodles on more than one occasion. The first time, I had the chicken noodles and they nailed it. Seasoned well, a lot of chicken, just the right amount of spice. However, I have ordered both the chicken and veggie version since then and each time has been a failure. Either no spice or too much spice and on one occasion I felt jipped with the veggies. My veggie to noodle ratio was wayyyyy off. So, why the 3 stars? Well, they do get a few things right. Their fried rice (veggie version and chicken version) has always been delicious. Perhaps they do this well because it is simple. Also, their spring rolls are like bites of heaven. Yes, heaven. They make these well too (above average even). They are also getting 3 stars instead of 2 because A LOT of folks from my work really like this place. They order different menu items than me and different spice levels. They can't all be wrong, can they? In addition, they serve large portions so you will have leftovers and they typically get your order correct. However, as stated above, they are not consistent. I like this Place but certainly don't love it. Maybe they will improve down the road and I will write an update. For now, I am just happy there is a Thai option downriver. They get a star for that alone!

Okay let me start this off by saying I could easily eat pad thai every day if I had the chance, so I'm kind of in love with thai food. That being said, there aren't a terribly large amount of thai food restaurants in the downriver area. We had the chance to eat there a few weeks ago and everyone in our party was throughly impressed with their dishes. My only complaints are that the interior is a bit cramped and they aren't open on Sundays. With the way that the tables are set up every time that the door opened we got a blast of cold air but I dealt with it. Seriously big portions which allowed me to have seconds for breakfast the following day, thereby adhering to my daily pad thai love. I will definitely be back and bring friends!

I have ordered from here several times, and it is oh so good , it is so small that you can eat in but you will have people standing waiting for their to go orders, and beleive me it gets busy . Portions are very large so plan on getting someone to help you eat yours, the server his name is Apple and he is a very hard worker fast and efficient , so you want the best Thai food downriver this is the place to go.

Downriver... land of a thousand Chinese takeout places; where chicken wings and burgers reign supreme. Into this barren landscape, another aspiring restaurateur has taken a chance on providing the denizens with the more exotic flavors of Thailand. I salute their efforts and will miss them when they are gone; it is only a matter of time... these places just don't last here. But for now... I will enjoy them; they are the only shop in town. My first experience with this restaurant was a carryout order, so I cannot say very much about the service staff. The lady behind the counter was friendly and polite, and the food was hot and ready when I arrived. The spice level was good, maybe slightly milder than I usually take it (Note: I like insane levels of heat!). The ingredients were fresh, and the sauce was flavorful. The price was about average with most of the Thai places I have dined at in the Farmington Hills and Ypsilanti/Ann Arbor areas. In other words, average for the region, but expensive for the Downriver area. It is still cheaper to eat here than to drive to Dearborn for the next closest place, so it has that going for it. I will be going back to try some of their other dishes. At least I want to, but this is Downriver; they might not last long enough for me to get a second opinon.

I was so excited when I found this on Yelp and read all the positive reviews... Ordered $45.00 worth of takeout and was VERY disappointed! I will NOT be back. The Pad Thai was very dry! The noodles were not fully cooked and the chicken was charred. Also, I ordered the Pad Prik with Beef AND Chicken, the Beef is very thin sliced beef (maybe 6 slices total) and the sauce was WATERY and TASTELESS. AND the white rice wasn't even fully cooked! The ONLY thing going for them is the friendly girl at the register....

This hidden jem serves up fantastic dishes! Try the drunken noodle, and of course the pad thai is a staple everyone should have. To the user Kiyomi: perhaps you should have ordered NO spice as opposed to no extra spice.

  • Mike W.

Pretty good Thai food, for cheap. My only complaint is that while the interior is pretty nice, it's not good for groups of more than two. Not impossible, just a little cramped for it, and you'd have to scoot together however many of their two-seat tables.

    (4)
  • Todd P.

I usually get the curry dishes here. Food is decent, if you have a craving for Thai, it will work. Not many Thai restaurants downriver. But is it Bangkok 96 or Sala Thai downtown? No. But good enough for a thai fix. The restuaruant is very nice inside, but small, maybe 8 tables. In the winter it seems like all the warm air gets sucked out whenever anyone walks in. Staff is nice and friendly.

  • Rikki W.

Ok, I have to admit I love their food here. I always get carryout though because the place is extremely small and they usually have their 4 year old kid running around and annoying the patrons. Really, they need to find someone to watch him because it is really annoying when you are dining and you have some kid bugging you, and I like kids!! I give them 4 stars based on their food. If you want awesome carryout Thai in downriver, this is your place.

I'm use to going downtown Detroit to get my Thai food, I found one closer to me down in Southgate, so I decided to try it, I ordered my usual and I explained to them please DO NOT add extra spice, when I went home and ate my food it was as if they added EXTRA spice, I had never in my life tasted anything as hot as my food..My mouth was on fire, I'm sure there were flames coming from my mouth, I called and told them they added extra spice when I told them NO EXTRA spice...they made me drive back to the restaurant only to give me more sauce without adding spice, this ruined my whole dish and Instead of making a customer happy and offering me something else or remaking my dish without adding the extra spice they messed up even more, my food absolutely disgusting and I will never go back there again...I was soooooo pissed off and hungry.

I've been to a few Thai restaurants here and there and Thai Place stands out amongst them all. Each dish is unique, and has all the flavors you could want. I get the dishes with medium spice which I feel is perfect. The dish I loved most out of all of them was the noodle dish. C9 I think. I can't remember the number or actual dish name off the top of my head, but it's worth going there time and time again just for that dish. I hope this becomes a main-stay in Wyandotte.

I went to Thai Place Restaurant with my father and we loved it! For our appetizers, we ordered the shrimp spring rolls and the beef salad, both of which were delicious. For the main course, my dad ordered the Pad Thai Curry while I had the Pad Thai. We were both stuffed with all the yummy food we ordered! If Thai Place wasn't so far away (we live in Lansing), we would definitely visit more often! :)

Tried the shrimp rolls and one of the fried rice dishes with beef in a brown sauce, medium spicy... wow... the food was amazing, and the service was prompt... it's unimpressive on the outside, but what's waiting inside is definitely worth it... will be back for sure.

According to my reliable sources, this is one of the better Thai places south of Detroit. The owners are Thai. They serve all the normal noodle and rice dishes and can accommodate your spice levels. Lunch entrees are discounted and comes with free hot & sour soup (which is pretty good). I tasted the pad thai, pad see ew and drunken noodle. All of them were good!

  • Amanda C.

Honestly, the food here tasted fairly decent. My problem with this place was the amount of grease involved. We got an order for carry out and when we got our leftovers out of the refrigerator, there was gelled, bright orange grease lining the container. It left me feeling a bit disgusting for having eaten there. Next time, we will make the longer trip to Bangkok 96.
