What more can I say about six star that hasn't already been said? I started going here with my girlfriend (who is now my wife) when we first started dating considering this was a regular haunt of hers and she wanted to introduce me to it. I immediately took a liking to this place and it is a regular stop when we are in Southgate. The food is fabulous and I challenge anyone to find a better price for the quality of food that you get there. The staff are regulars who have worked there for years and they treat you like family. Wish this place was closer to where I live.

Just as everyone has said. This is you standard issue coney food, with an excellent breakfast. If you can only go there once, make sure it's for breakfast. There lunch and dinner food is good, just a huge fan of breakfast. Highly recommend their chili omelet or anything with their chili.

Ten of us checked this place out on a Saturday morning and we weren't disappointed. It was packed with people, which we figured might mean a slowdown in service/attention. Definitely not the case here. The waitress was quick, knew the menu, and her service to us was excellent. The food was pretty tasty, too. I had the George's Special, which is an omelet with sausage, feta, peppers, etc., which was quite delicious. The hash browns and toast were made just right, too. We'll definitely go back again. Five stars for Six Star!

Just another greasy spoon among dismal down river options. I had the corned beef hash. Came out of a can, not very good. My sister felt sick The next day. I gave it one star to add balance to the over optimistic 4 star rating prior.

Solid little local diner...gets pretty busy on the weekends. Staff are friendly and the food is pretty good. Travelers special is a nice breakfast treat...eggs, pancakes and bacon...yum

I've been coming to Six Star for about 10 years now. It's a popular diner in my hometown that has weathered MANY fires over the years. Despite burning to the ground multiple times, they still find a way to build back up and reopen their doors. Some of the cooks and waitresses I first met a decade ago are still working there. It's like Southgate's version of Cheers - you know the staff & they know you....sometimes you even know the customers! One of my good friends works here - Becky. What's really weird is when a coworker approaches you & say they know Becky, and it's all because of Six Star. Even crazier when you no longer work at that job, but still run into your former coworker while having lunch there! See, just like Cheers! If you're dining alone - sit at the counter! Seriously, you won't regret it. You get to meet regulars, hear people's stories, and listen in on some conversation/gossip. Well maybe the gossip part only happens in front of me since I'm friends with the waitresses? Just don't hold me to the last part. I've loved everything I've ordered from here. Chicken Lemon Rice soup is good. I generally get the Breakfast Wrap (Bacon) with Hashbrowns (crispy/well done) on the side for breakfast. Chicken Greek Salad is good. Fries are good. My fiance always gets the Chili Cheese Fries and they always look delicious! I've also heard the Potato Pancakes are pretty good too, but I've never ordered them. People are right when they say food & service is consistent in their reviews. If you haven't come here, then you should.

I'm not so sure why someone rated this place so badly. Living closeby, I've been here plenty of times and each time has been very consistently good...you'll always know what to expect. Here is a condensed a list of what I've had and my reviews: Chicken Noodle Soup - Love it. Simple and very chickeny. Chicken Lemon Soup - Very good. Lightly lemony and chickeny...soothing/comforting Eggs/Dearborn breakfast sausage/hashbrowns - All cooked perfectly...I get my eggs over medium and they're cooked perfectly everytime. Can even request hashbrowns done crispy, with onions/etc. Reuben - They corn their own corned beef and the result is a very, very juicy Reuben. Great balance of flavor...this is by far my favorite place to get a Reuben. Chicken Wingdings - Very piping hot, very large wings/drummettes, very good...not sure if this is a commercial frozen wing though, but I really like it. Chili - Have had it with and without beans, it is good...not exactly the best...but a solid chili Opened Faced Turkey Sandwich - It's good and you get large portions. Fried Fish - Not the best I've ever had...maybe a bit too much coating for me...it's beer-battered. Greek Salad - Very good, but standard with feta, beets, onions, lettuce, tomato, olives and pickeled pepper...creamy red wine vinegar dressing that I like. I've eaten way more, but can't think right now. Service is always very good. They are always on top of things and they are the same women that have waited there since I've been going there...usually a very good sign. :D BTW, it's cash only. There is an ATM in the place, however, I imagine the fees are very high.

I'm a starving traveler and generally prefer to try out the local diners. Was greeted when I arrived and offered a menu. I made an order for oj and it promptly arrived. Not sure what happened after that. I spent 15 minutes being ignored by my waitress and others. Tried to get attention and give then the benefit. I politely paid for the oj and went somewhere else. Prolly for the best. Place is dirty, menu pages stick together, could hear someone in the kitchen coughing up a lung, and saw 2 tables send their cold food back.

It's good food for a good price, breakfast is busy, dinner is not. Portions are on large side, it's a bummer there cash only but that's the only real con. Bathrooms could be cleaner but, it's not the worst.

As far as local diners/family dining places go, this place is the one to measure up to. There's no one thing that stands out to make it so awesome... but the combination of reasonable prices, awesome food, nice portion sizes and great waitstaff all come together to make it the best diner experience you'll find downriver! This is my parents' place for Sunday breakfast after church. My mom introduced me to it when we went out one day, and I loved the food. After going back with her again and again, I began to notice how friendly and fun all the servers are and how the service is consistently great. As far as the food goes... it's not fine dining, but for a local diner, it is AWESOME. Always fresh, always tastes good, and is consistent. It tastes the same every time I come. I've only ordered lunch once, and breakfast every other time. Their western omelette is the best I've had in the area, and I love their rye toast. Oh, and don't forget the home fries! You'll pay a nominal upcharge, maybe 50 cents... but the home fries are wayyy better then traditional hash browns. My mom loves their belgian waffle and bacon, as well as the home frires of course. I can't say everything on the menu is this good... but I can tell you that everyone I know that has come here says they love it. Family and friends alike have only good things to say about this place! I went to another local place today and noticed the difference. They may have been a buck or so cheaper on the omelette... and while the food was alright, it just didn't compare to Six Star. After leaving them a fairly negative review and telling people to come here... I thought hey, I should leave Six Star an awesome review! I'm not sure what's with the one star review someone left. Some people are never satisfied, I guess. This place is highly recommended, especially for breakfast! You won't be disappointed. It gets very busy on the weekend, especially Sunday. The only waiting area to speak of is 4-5 chairs against the wall by the door.

Terrible! Pancakes with fruit in them are NOT crepes! Everything was cold. Had to have my omelet warmed up. Just all around bad. :(

I can't rate the quality of food, we didn't even stay long enough for water because this place was FILTHY!!!! Nasty food bits & trash all over the floor, ripped up booth seats fixed with duct tape... I'm not a high class diner, I'll eat just about anywhere, except this place. Seriously reconsider your life choices if you think this is a decent place to consume food.
