This was my second visit to G.R.M. I was excited to go again as my first experience was pretty good and I love the atmosphere of the restaurant. It's one of the only nice urban, contemporary designed places in Jackson, which is great! When arriving, we were told there was a fifteen minute wait, no big deal... we gave the hostess a phone number and she said they would text us when our table was ready. After half an hour at the bar, I flaged her down and she said she had tried to text us several times but I received nothing... forget the technology and go with something that works! We we're sat at a bar type area and waited another fifteen minutes before we finally saw a server. We ordered our food including one soup. After awhile our waiter came back confused about whether we had ordered drinks at the bar so I told him yes and to add them to our tab. I also ordered another soup. The first soup came out via a lost young bus boy who basically shoved it in front of us. Then our food arrived via another busser. Then the other soup arrived... so I ate my soup while my burger got cold. After that our waiter stopped by a time or two but just in passing. He was clearly overwhelmed and did not know what to do next. Our food was mediocre at best to make things worse. The manager was only seen busing tables, that made it even worse yet... From someone who's managed fine dining and places just like this for years, it was a real disappointment. I really like the style of the place and hope you get it together because Jackson really needs a place like this. But until then, I won't be back...

It would be too sad if the reviews turned people away.. I will go back, if just for the really good clam chowder... a little pricy for Jackson but the food is WAY above average for this town!!! We went for a late lunch on a snowy day, and found the service person a little reluctant to brew a pot of coffee for just two little old ladies. " its kona and I didn't want to throw half of it away" was her comment. We pushed a little and, indeed the coffee was excellent! We split a gigantic turkey rueben with yummy ( made to order potato chips), we both had the chowder and we left well fed for $30 $ including the 20% tip. I was happy ....This will be high on my list for those long drawn out gabby late lunches we seniors ladies sooo enjoy.

This is a fairly new place in Jackson, they have only been open about 6 weeks or so. We went there for lunch this Sunday afternoon and we were not really very impressed. The menu has a very limited selection, and what is there tends to be 'dressed up' to try to make it more than what it is. For instance, the pulled pork is served with a slaw - pretty standard. Except that this slaw is apples and celery root and just does not work when not 100% fresh. It gets wilted and nasty - and that is what was served - no crunch. The fries are described as twice fried, but in fact came out soggy with grease, not crispy. The pulled pork itself had big chunks of fat left in it - and I mean BIG chunks, one ball of fat was about marble sized and shaped. Ick!! We were there within 10 minutes of opening, so it's not as if things had been sitting around getting limp and greasy, so I'm not sure what caused the quality issues. On the plus side, they were very willing to substitute the cheese on a burger from blue cheese to cheddar, so they seem to be trying. The decor is good, and the place could be awesome if they paid a bit more attention to food quality and stopped trying to be pretentious. It is better to get some simple pub food right than to try to impress with fancy descriptions that don't hold up in the taste and quality end. Once the brewery is fully operational it might be worth a trip back to try it again. We usually give a place two chances - strike three never happens!

A little disappointed in our first visit. Went on a Thursday evening and the wait for 2 of us was about 20 minutes. Menu was pretty limited, at least in our opinion. Food was ok. He had a burger, I had the Mac and cheese. Good, but not spectacular. The worst part was the noise. If you're looking for a nice intimate meal to relax at the end of the day, this probably isn't your best choice. Floors are concrete, high ceilings, bricks, glass windows...not much to absorb the sound. And when you throw in tables full of patrons, numerous staff and silverware...its hard to hold a conversation at your own table. Atmospheres like this are trendy and ok for some but just not our cup of tea. To each his own.

a very enjoyable experience. good brews and a fairly typical but decent menu. it has good character and is set apart from its competitors in the area which warrants it one extras star than it would in Ann Arbor. prices are fine and the staff is friendly. if you're looking for a change up for your beef and beer, certainly give this place a try.

The atmosphere here is amazing! It's the only steampunk styled restaurant I've ever been to and I love it. Come during lunch time for their deli and in the evening for a wider menu. I highly suggest the burger. It comes on a pretzel bun, has a sweet bacon barbecue sauce, and is my favorite burger in Jackson.

Food quality is excellent- no problem there! However, their lunch prices are a bit on the high side; high enough that a visit will be a rarity for me. Also, the ambiance was severely lacking. The decor was nice, but the dining area was too open and not very comfortable. They need some booths or something to offer some privacy.

Great food, great atmosphere, and good beer. Don't have full bar, but you don't go to a brewery to drink liquor.

Arrived from Ann Arbor on a mission for work, and was super excited to stop and try the peanut butter banana Belgian strong (which was great!) They've got a handful of unique and interestingly-flavored beers, which were fantastic, but they seemed pretty low on staff and had very strict menu rules. Somewhere between half and 3/4 of the menu wasn't available during lunchtime, and I watched the poor bartender (who was slammed the whole time I was there) explain this to three different parties of confused and moderately disappointed people. Someone who wanted a substitution for fries and couldn't get it held her up for like five minutes while she tried to explain it. At that point, wouldn't it waste less time and cause less anguish to just print a different menu? Anyway, she was very sweet and apologetic and she did a great job, and the food I was able to order at lunchtime was good, even if I couldn't order the pretzels that were screaming my name (probably a good thing, because this place is not cheap).

Loved this place! They set a carafe of water on the table so you're never waiting for the waiter. Our table ordered the Bavarian pretzels with ale cheese dip (delicious!), pulled pork sandwich, veggie burger, and panzanella salad. The panzanella salad was great; the lettuce was perfectly grilled. The carafe of water was convenient but never cold so I had to ask for s glass of ice. Great laid-back atmosphere. My boyfriend ordered the cherry porter and really enjoyed it. It was a bit too fruity for my taste. If you're in Jackson, this is a great lunch spot. Good food, great beer selection, and a casual culture.

What a cool place! It's so different than anything else in downtown Jackson! I met a friend who was staying in Battle Creek at the Marketplace yesterday for dinner. The ambiance is open and has a cool industrial/renovated warehouse vibe to it. There is a lot of seating and they look to have a seperate room within the dining room for parties/events. I would say the food is upscale bar food. They had fish and chips, a variety of sandwiches and burgers, salads, pizzas and appetizers. The young lady sitting at the table next to us said her burger was the best she had ever had. I am guessing that for a 15 year old to say that, it is quite a compliment! :) For our entree, we split their massive pepperoni pizzas. The crust was thin and very good. The sauce was good as well. It was a little too greasy for me, but it is to be expceted from pepperoni pizza! My friend and I split the fried green bean appetizer, which was oustanding! The beans were plentiful and nicely fried with a delicious sauce. We also split the pretzel appetizer which was also good. The mustard that came with the sauce was stone ground and excellent (but use sparingly, it was strong)! Grand River makes their own beers, wines, and vodkas. I had two glasses of one of their red wines, which was nice and smooth as well as having a nice body to it. My friend tried the Michigan Mule drink, which consisted of their vodka, ginger ale and muddled lime. She said it was excellent! Overall, Grand River is a great place to come for lunch or dinner. They also have a Sunday brunch I would like to check out! It's worth a trip!

This place has a limited menu but what they do have is usually very good and designed to pair well with their beers. They have lots of different beers, most notably being the award winning Monkey Mouth IPA. The Airship isn't bad either. I'm not a huge fan of their liquors. Other than that it's a great place with a fun atmosphere. It's fairly pricey if you're planning on drinking and dining but they offer specials as well as a mug club if you live close enough to frequent it often.

Beer was good. Food was Ok. The menu was very limited. Our server did NOT have any beer knowledge. Couldn't tell us details about the beer. A server at a brewery should be able to explain the difference between the beers.

Visited for lunch on two separate occasions, each time leaving more than satisfied. The 'Veggie Sammich' is a tasty option for vegetarians. At night the menu changes to full dinner service with higher end entrees. Have yet to try their craft beers but the reviews from friends have been extremely positive.

As I entered the rustic Grand River Brewery and Restaurant in Jackson, Michigan, I could not help but feel welcomed as the hostess instantly greeted me and showed my date and me to an open seat. The restaurant was full of friendly, though slightly anxious, servers preparing for the upcoming dinner rush. It was almost 5pm, so this was to be expected. The hostess happily seated us and handed us two different menus, explaining that the dinner one would start at 5pm. We did not have to wait more than a minute or two before the waitress arrived and asked us what drinks we would like. I requested water and a sample of their seasonal pumpkin ale. To my dismay, she did not ask me for my ID. I realized that my date looked older than me and I was dressed professionally while carrying myself with as much grace as I can muster, but I am still only 22, so I was slightly taken aback by this. The pumpkin ale was a delicious ale, its flavor encompassing fall itself and reminding me of the roasted pumpkin seeds of my childhood. However, I ended up ordering the Michigan Mule, a drink with vodka, ginger, and lime served in a charming copper cup. I have since tried to recreate this drink myself, but I can never get the perfect lime and ginger taste. This drink has the perfect amount of spice flavor from the ginger balanced with the sour of lime. It is a must-have for vodka drinkers. Returning to analyzing the service, our waiter brought our drinks to us in a timely manner and kept our glasses of water full throughout the whole evening. I ordered their risotto with carrots and mushrooms. The waitress warned me that because this was only on the dinner menu she could not place the order until 5pm, which was still in another ten minutes. I said this was fine and was pleasantly surprised when my risotto was served a mere ten or so minutes after five. It was very hot, clearly just finished. The risotto was too salty for my taste, but still enjoyable with the balance of the mushrooms and carrots. I only ate half of my risotto, and the waitress promptly and kindly package it within a to-go container. Overall, my experience was wonderful. I enjoyed the drinks and atmosphere of the Grand River Brewery immensely and the service was outstanding. The whole menu was reasonably priced for the items offered, the atmosphere provided, and the quality of service given. I was a little disappointed that I was not asked for my ID and in the saltiness of the risotto that I was served, but other than that I have absolutely no complaints and will definitely return for another Michigan Mule and for more delcious and reasonably priced food.

The beer is good. The food is ok but way overpriced. The atmosphere is decent if you like the hipster vibe.

Great selection of beer on tap. Tons of Michigan made local wines to choose from and super affordable. The atmosphere is refreshing and the food is phenomenal. In my opinion- best pizza you can get in jackson. Always have a good time when I'm at Grand River.

Food-friendly beer paired with well-made and tasty food, definitely worth a stop if you'r ein the area. High ceilings, nice light, lots of fun steampunk-inspired touches abound.

Food and service has gone down hill since our first visit, will more than likely not be returning. If I'm gonna pay $14 for a burger, I'm going to go somewhere that at least uses good meat. I can get a grass fed burger with all organic condiments for the same price in Ann Arbor....

Very hipster, steampunk place with good locally sourced food and new menus for each season. Good selection of house made beer and wine, that they are happy to let you taste a few before you order. Most nights they have live music.

Have been here a few times now. Really cool steampunk vibe, a stage for bands, outdoor seating. Had the grilled cheese with onion jam last Friday and it was probably the best grilled cheese I've ever had in a restaurant. Good soups, too. But most importantly I've liked their beers! Had a really interesting cucumber-lime wheat (Pepino Loco) the other day. Monkey Mouth was delicious. They had an amazing saison this spring that I highly recommend but can't remember the name, something about a nun maybe. The Heidi Spice was fun, not too gingery, which is good. Will definitely be trying their spirits ASAP.

For Jackson, this is a fancy option. For someone from Tampa that is use to good gastropubs, the food and beer here were average. The place is an open area and was lacking any kind of personality. We ordered a couple of their microbrew beers and although good, nothing spectacular. For apps we ordered the fried calamari and the pretzels with dipping mustard. Meh....the calamari came with more banana peppers than it did calamari. For dinner I had the falafel wrap. I didn't taste any of the cucumber yogurt sauce and the falafel was undercooked. It was a big pile of mushed garbanzo beans. My husband ordered the fish and chips and they were pretty tasty. Lightly battered and served with homemade French fries. Someone at our table ordered the Mac n cheese and it was lacking any real flavor. Like I said, for Jackson this isn't a bad option, but if you're from out of town, don't expect to be wowed.

We dropped in here after we were done at the Jackson Winter Beer Fest. Sadly, I didn't get to experience the full effect of the brewery because of that. I had just one beer (a cream ale), but it was good enough to want me to make a return visit. The food was very good. I had the fish and chips and I thought they brought me a turkey leg, the fish was so large. Everything was cooked well and the prices were quite decent. Everyone else like their food, too. The space was great. Plenty of seating and nicely appointed. In addition to the seating and bar areas, they also have a store where other items are sold. It looks like they have an outdoor seating area, but the weather was not quite good for that. Service was the best part. We were immediately seated and served. Our waitress was very pleasant and efficient. We all noticed how many tables she handled at the same high level. Once I am able to return and can better sample the beer, the most important part of a review for this place, I'll do an update. I suspect I'll add another star.

For it being in Jackson, this place is pretty good! The atmosphere and style of the place is unlike anywhere else in Jackson! It is really nice and pretty cool. The food selection was alright, pretty basic with sandwiches, soup, and such. The beer was alright, the waitress let us sample a few. Make sure to sample them to find out which ones you like. Overall pretty good and different than anything else in the area.

Do you like good craft Michigan beer, unique and delicious food and a great atmosphere? Check out Grand River. It won't disappoint. Try the Monkey Mouth IPA.

Stopped in for a beer sampler. VERY cool atmosphere and the beer was tasty. The holiday beers were spicy and delicious. The owner John and the brewmaster stopped to chat for a while about the restaurant and beer. Try the foul play double IPA if you like hoppy beer! We are from Lansing and will make a return visit for sure.

I was very disappointed with this place. The food wasn't that great and it was kind of cold. I don't think their beer & wine is that great either.

Based on the crowd, this is likely a great place. Unfortunately, our initial experience was not positive. Upon arrival, we were given a wait time of twenty minutes. This turned out to be thirty. When we were taken to a table we were then told the kitchen was at least forty minutes delayed. This information would have been nice to know up front. Since we had a train to catch, we left. We had a pretty good meal down the road at virginia's Coney Island grill.

This place has excellent food, from the burgers to fish and chip to Panzzanela salad . This past Friday two scallop dishes were ran as specials. The Entrée was panseared scallops golden raisin and poblano purée sautéed kale corn and pickled garlic garnished beautifully with cilantro and sea salt. The next special dish was an appetizer and it had cauliflower purée pan seared scallops bacon fried cilantro and a mango pico de gallo. Both dishes were amazing. Thanks to Chef Corey and myself!

Kind of disappointing. Beer was ok. Food was ok. Outside Deck was loose so boards come up when you walk on them. Wasn't what I expected having been to several other Michigan brewery pubs.

A very large space that would be perfect for events or parties except for the fact that they have the worst parking situation! This place is pretty popular and it even has multiple billboards on 94, yet they have no actual parking lot. Be careful where you park when visiting here there is a 3 hour max parking lot on one side and the other sides belong to other businesses. So far I've enjoyed the brew but I'm worried about my car so I didn't stay long.

My family has practically become regulars here. Even with young children, the staff is always incredibly accommodating. We love the beer, wine, and those "Michigan Mules!" The food is fresh and prepared with the utmost care. Love love love!

Walked in to find the place extremely inviting and expansive. Found a seat at the bar wo any problem and snached a menu from someone two down from me, the only person to acknowledge me after 10 mins was to my surprisement the manager who was washing glasses and swatting bees. She took my order and got me a pint super quick. Didn't see her leave but thank you, after that service went down hill. After placing my empty glass near the edge of the bar "signifying that I would like another beer" it was hurried away into the washer wo acknowledgement of needing another beer after another 5 mins I finally flagged down a bar tender (who seemed more prompt to fill orders of the regular mug club members than the wide eyed stanger) and got another pint. Didn't stay much longer and promptly cashed out and left. The food and beer are excellent just random shitty service.

Just came back from a fantastic late lunch at Grand River Brewing. We arrived just after 3 and were able to take fuull advantage of half priced beer happy hour. By ordering halves, I wad able to sample several of their creative and expertly brewed draughts. My favorite was the smoked pig's head porter. Many brewpubs offer a thin and bitter porter that tastes overwhemingly of burnt grain. Not so here. The beer was creamy and smooth with smoky overtones that paired perfectly with the pastrami sandwich I ordered. Our server. Ashley, steered me away from the standard Jewish rye on which it's normally served to a whole grain bread made locally that incorporates a hefty portion of spent grains - a byproduct of the brewing process. SCORE!! Really superior pastrami to start with but the taste and texture of the bread elevated the sandwich to an ethereal experience. Not too be missed. My wife ordered the Reuben on the aforementioned Jewish rye paired with the gold medal winning Monkey Mouth IPA. Another out of body pairing - sublimely good. We shared sandwich halves and neither of us was disappointed. If you're ever within striking distance of this place give it a try. With the recent explosion in craft brewing, there are about a zillion brewpubs out there. But rarely will you find one where the people running both the brewery and the kitchen know what they're doing. These folks do and are well worth the trip. The only reason for the 4 instead of 5 is that the website and current hardcopy menu list a cherry version of the porter and a hard cherry cider, both of which were not available when I tried to order them.

Ordered the rainbow trout. The apples pretending to be potatoes were a surprise. Guess I should have read the menu better. But the crunchy apples were a great complement to the savory sauces. Beer was above average, but the food really surprised me here.

We've been here a few times in the past and weren't ever bowled over by an amazing experience, but a few nights ago we had a great time! The beer list seems to have expanded, and all the beers we tried (7 in all) were very tasty and full-flavored. The pretzel sticks were delish as well as the lamb wrap, spinach salad (lots of blue cheese!) and reuben. Our waitress Katie was very pleasant and helpful - props to her. We will definitely be returning! :)

Drove about 45 minutes to come check this place out and it was absolutely worth it! We tried a few flights of beers and we're really impressed. We're big craft beer drinkers and have gotten a little picky about our beers, but these were fantastic. Especially loved the Pepino Loco...a cucumber lime wheat beer. We would definitely recommend checking this place out!

Excellent food and atmosphere! Waiters and waitresses are always friendly and inviting. Chef Corey has been making some great dishes! Monkey Mouth IPA is clean and refreshing. I enjoy going with the entire family!
