For being a tavern there weren't too many beers on tap which was the first disappointment. The second was the food. The menu is rather limited and most everything is overpriced for the quality. A $10 burger doesn't come with fries; those are $2 extra and even then it's a small handful. Wait staff is mediocre. But the place was packed so there must be something about the place I missed. Can't say I'll go back to find it though.

If you're looking for a place to grab a quick brew with your buds, you've found it! The game's always on and the beer is always cold. And hey, if you're superstitious, I'm here to tell you that I saw the bartender win $300 playing Keno!! It's a lucky place, and you've gotta stop by.

My favorite here is the olympia salad. It's really a greek salad with gyro meat on top. It has the freshest veggies in it and the gyro meat is tasty too. Their patio is a great place for the summer. I just wish they had more Michigan beer on tap. I think their one Michigan tap rotates between Bell's Oberon and Amber. I love Bell's, but it'd be cool to have at least one more brewery represented.

The service is ok. They try hard. The burgers are really good. Authentic (yes, the real deal) Greek salads. Summer time seating outdoor is great. Definitely check it out.

Beautiful weather so I'm in search of a place with outdoor seating, preferably somewhere we haven't been to. Lot's of solid reviews here, so we make the drive. Place is empty inside and just a few tables filled outside. Usually that's not a good sign. Our server was very nice, but the food was slow coming. Had to try to explain to the rest of the family what a brioche bun was. Over-priced Sprecter's root beer for the kiddos. Kids got burgers and they were happy. Wife had them make a Turkey Reuben w/ Cole Slaw - not on the menu, but they were happy to do it. It was good. I decided on the Cajun Chicken Grill. It's been a long time since I've had one. We used to love the one at Cooker's before that chain went bye-bye many years ago. It's one of the few menu items that I repeatedly ordered anywhere. So, with a bit of anticipation I get the TOTM version. Looks good. First bite reaction - too salty and not enough real flavor. At least it was fairly juicy. I'll try something different next time.

Overall, great neighborhood style bar and grill. Easy parking, great service, keno. Spacious patio for dining outside. Good bottle craft beer selection. We have been happy with everything we've tried, but our favorite is still the burger/onion rings or the fresh Greek style salads - not what you expect from a bar and grill. Only downside...no kids menu.

Great beer and food selection. If you want an amazing burger, this is the place to go!

Service was okay Food was good, typical pub food nothing amazing. I would return only if I was in a drinking mood as they have great drink specials.

I've been to the TotM twice - once about 5 years ago and the other time last week. The first time, the only think that stuck out in my mind was the bad service. The server was slow, I had to pry for drink specials, etc - but then I saw our same server gladly offering up dinner specials, drink specials, etc to another table. I remember the burger being decent, but never went back because I was so unimpressed with the service. I went back last week and had a similar experience, however I had a LOT of time to think about it while I was stuck in the bathroom the next 24 hours... I met two friends there - two of us got really sick and the other was fine. I wasn't "vomiting all night and had to miss work" sick, but I was "explosive diarrhea, stomach cramping, in hell." I know, sorry for the details, but I just can't recommend this place. The service is horrible and the food just wasn't worth it!

One of my favorite unhealthy snacks of all time are mozzarella sticks. As bad as it sounds (for my health at least), they are usually my go-to order when I go to a bar or pub style restaurant for food. And Tavern on the Main has the second-best mozzarella sticks I have ever had, next to the surprisingly awesome Bronx Bar sticks in Detroit. They are made with provolone cheese and are served practically melting out of the breading. That alone is worth a high rating in my book. But Tavern on the Main has good food all-around. The Cajun Chicken sandwich is as delicious as it sounds (something about the word cajun makes anything sound a little bit better.) And they serve their draft beers in glasses shaped like footballs...and who doesn't want to drink beer out of a football? On the downside, the atmosphere is pretty dull. The last time I went, the dining room was full of people yet you could have heard a pin drop. Not sure why there was such a somber silence in the restaurant, but it was definitely a bit strange. Overall, the food makes this place worth going to for dinner, but the lack of liveliness means this is also a place you want to bolt out of for a more fun location after you're done eating.

I'm a bit torn on this review. I have a up & down relationship with this place, which I frequent at least once a month. The pros: Great beer & drinks at unbeatable prices (32oz of Bells Oberon for $4 or $5) Cheap decent bar food (Good burgers, chicken sandwiches, fair salmon, etc.) Good place to catch a game (if you are in the main room) Touch Screen games at 3 of the tables Did I already mention awesome drink prices, well let's just give another shout out for cheap booze! The cons: There is a waitress here who can ruin your dinner or drinks if you draw one of her tables. I won't call her out by name but she clearly discriminates against people under the age of 40 (we are late 20's, very laid back, not demanding) - you only get good service if you are a close personal friend. Despite consistently tipping 20%, this hasn't changed in two years of coming here. We've had the owner come over and apologize to us because she noticed our drinks had been empty for over 15 minutes while our waitress was sitting down yacking away with her more preferred customers. Despite this, we still frequent the place - it's the go-to restaurant when we want a cheap, low-key meal and a couple tasty beverages. I should also mention that the rest of the wait staff is extremely attentive, pleasant and prompt. I wouldn't hesitate going here for good bar food at some of the best prices around.

i have lived in royal oak for years and have driven by here countless times, but have just recently discovered how great it is! cheap beer and really good eats! the salads are shockingly delicious and fresh - not at all what i expected from a neighborhood bar type of place. really nice customers as well - very laid back and comfortable.

This would be a great dive bar... if it wasn't so polished. What was really striking on first going to the Tavern was that it stacks up against all the other Clawson bars very well - I'd put it at #2, right behind the Lotus. They have a fully stocked bar, awesome beer specials, and a full kitchen. I'd recommend trying the Tavern burger - bacon, swiss, ciabatta and tasty! There's also a drink special that's super cheap - but the name of the special escapes me - but it's tap beer served in a football shaped mug. Ask about it! (I'd also suggest getting Blue Moon with that special) In all, the Tavern is a comfortable and clean place to have a few pints with your nearest and dearest. It'd be a welcome change from the shoulder-to-shoulder crowds in the other Clawson bars!

Everybody raves about their burgers, so I had to try one. I would rate it as average. But it's a nice place, and worth a try if you are in the area.

I was recently in Royal Oak for work for a few days and searched on my GPS for a good bar and grill so I could drink a beer, enjoy some good food, and watch the St. Louis Cardinals play in the postseason. Right when I walked in I could tell it was going to be a legend establishment! The Cards game was on 2 of the TVs right when i walked in! Ordered a few drinks and food. Food was delicious! Not only does the food make the experience at an establishment like that so great but also the service that I received was outstanding! Jessica, the bar tender, provided great service and she talked to all her customers. Amber, a waitress, even stood and talked to customers. They were both very friendly. I ended up going there the next day as the Cards played again. The other customers were also very friendly! It wasn't just the game that brought me back it was the great food and service! It is a place you should make sure you visit if you are ever in the Clawson, Michigan area.

Great burgers. If we did carry out, I would have my husband pick it up at the smokey bar.

Good neighborhood bar & grill. Very spacious and lots of parking. Lots of bar and menu choices. Good value, the yero was pretty tasty. Good joint and one to repeat!

Not good. Ruben and burger were tastesless. Waitress was nice but this place is probably only good for drinks on the patio. Would not recommend.

With the exception of Frittata, I don't often eat in Clawson but I decided to try this place a second time last Friday. For the price, I thought the food was very average. I ordered the fish and chips for $12.99 and was disappointed when my order came out looking like four Van De Kamp fish sticks. For that price, I expected a little more. I know I'm not the target audience for this place as I was the youngest patron by at least a decade, so I'm not going to complain about the setting, but the food needs work.

Food was good but they charge extra for mayo, pickles and stuff. I think that burgers should come with pickles and mayo. Service is ok.

Good experience. Limited, kind of unimaginative, menu. I had the tavern burger without a bun. Very simple. Burger, cheese, two strips of bacon. M had Olympus salad. Gyro meet good; lettuce was fresh. Ranch dressing was homemade and good. I had a side of coleslaw. Very good; tasted homemade. We were here at 6:30 on a summer Saturday. Very low key. Fine atmosphere. I'd come here again. Waitstaff was attentive and pleasant.

Sooooo many bones to pick...I'll start with the fact I've been waiting for my Chicken sandwich for over 30 minutes. My salad plate has been on the table for 25. The salad consists of tomato which I requested none of, and cucumbers. When I inquired about my sandwich, the waitress apologized and said the Chicken takes longer to cook. Keep in mind I did not request a chicken straight off the farm...so annoyed. Update... My food came and a plastic food wrap thing fell out. Now I'm leaving hungry and even more annoyed.

We still love this place for burgers, but they recently look the fried pickles off of the regular menu. Sorry...they lose a star for that.

Ponderosa/big boy decided to sell pull tabs and liquor...and it works! Their menu! Omg!!! I can't imagine any place better to bring my tinder date. Bartenders with their off life colored plastic lensed glasses bring hipster to life. Ask about the "trailer traffic light" it will turn your cheeks red.

For my 100th review in 2013 I wanted to make it a good one so here y'all go... From the outside you wouldn't think this place would be more than your typical bar and grille but it's definitely worth a looksee. We stopped in here after first getting shafted at Black Lotus and then realizing that our second choice, Due Venti, was closed this week for renovation or some such thing. The nearest third option was TOTM and it was a fantastic discovery! When we walked in, the dining room was clearing out but we braved the falling temp and decided to sit on their patio. We were immediately greeted by Lisa our server, who if you haven't had the pleasure, was wonderful and gracious throughout the whole experience. She took our drink order right off the bat...and while I'm on topic let me add that I'm glad we ended up here rather than the Lotus because the beer selection here is far better, covering a nice cross section of microbrews from Michigan and beyond. We glanced over the menu and ordered....for my lady friend the Santorini Horiatiki salad and for me the Chili Lime Tilapia. But before I go there let me tangent for a minute. I'm going to presume that they pride themselves on their fish entrees since there wasn't a meat option amongst them...that said I'm not a fan of cooked fish while I do love me some sushi...odd I know but regardless, I didn't want a sandwich or a burger so I was left with fish, all of which sounded wonderfully tasty actually. Being a fan of Tilapia when I do eat fish the Chili Lime was an interesting read and it sounded like something I'd make at home so it was a no brainer. It came with tartar sauce, salad or coleslaw and baby baker potatoes. The baby bakers were the perfect bite size potato and the dusting of seasoning salt made these crave worthy!! The Tilapia though was out of control delicious. It had a really thin breading and I'm guessing was pan fried but the flavors going on were delicate while still perfectly satisfying. I loved this dish!! I'm going to make this at home once I figure out how they did their breading. My coleslaw didn't come but Lisa was apologetic and accommodating about it and to be honest I'm not a huge fan of salad or coleslaw so it made no never mind to me. My special ladyfriend's salad, the Santorini, was gorgeous! With cucumbers, red onion, black olives, Roma tomatoes, feta, grilled chicken and Oregano with a Greek dressing, I had a few bites and it was ridiculous! Lisa told her that this would be her new favorite salad and she was absolutely right. It's pretty fantastic and if you're not into leafy greens this is right up your alley. The service here was really on point down to Lisa putting our order in before her party of twelve's, ensuring that we wouldn't go hungry while waiting. She was a total sweetheart and the rest of the staff was all friendly too. I hadn't heard of the TOTM before yesterday but we'll be back for sure for the patio and the food!

Food is overpriced. They make food downstairs. Good beer specials. But the bathrooms stink!

Overall, great food and drinks, reasonably priced, comfortable atmosphere. My husband and I have been going to Tavern On the Main for about 5 years. When we were dating, we loved meeting friends here for drinks and dinner on the patio. Now that we're married and have a one-year-old, it's also a great family dining atmosphere. We usually get a burger, onion rings, and the Horiatiki salad, and split everything between the two of us. The burger is is always juicy and flavorful and has this delicious grilled bun that they buy fresh from a bakery in Detroit. The salad is heaping with fresh veggies and a deliciously light olive oil and vinegar dressing. The food is wonderful, but the main reason we keep coming back is because of the service. The owners (husband and wife) always greet us in person, and often will bring small treats for our one-year-old daughter (soup samples, fruit from the bar). This may not seem like a big deal, but when you're trying to enjoy dinner with a toddler at your table, a few orange slices can do wonders. Our waitresses are always friendly and the service is reasonably fast. The atmosphere is cozy, but it's also a great place to watch a game on one of their many new big screens. During warmer weather, the patio has a nice view of downtown Clawson.

I am torn between 2 and 3 stars. I really, really want to like this place more than I do. We keep going back hoping each experience will be better than the ones before, but it has been consistent. The food is pretty good. We've tried the burgers and some of the apps. I had the Buffalo Wings last time we were in & they definitely had some kick to it. Prices for the beer are decent, and of course the football glasses are entertaining. Unfortunately, the service is consistently slow. It doesn't matter if they're not busy. Every time we've been there, it hasn't been busy. We usually have to flag down our waitress for drinks every time after waiting awhile with empty glasses/bottles. We always get a waitress that disappears on us. The last time we were in there, she gave us Wings instead of Chicken Tenders & charged us for both. It was corrected, but not without a lot of huffing & puffing on her part. I'm sure she was just frustrated by the errors she made, but an apology with a smile & personality wouldn't hurt! I'm sure we'll be back because it's close to home and never too busy to get a table. I think we need to try sitting at the bar next time for better service.

After a failed attempt at playing trivia at another bar we rushed here to get in on some cranial exercise. Color me impressed! The Quizzo Trivia was fun. Our quiz master was taking song requests which turned into late 90's rap karaoke. The bar itself was not too shabby. Cheap craft beer bottles($3.75) and the food looked decent for bar food but we didn't eat this time. Our server was attentive without being overbearing. She screwed up the bill but corrected it in no time. Tavern on the Main was a nice reluctant find and we will be back for more trivia on Wednesdays at 9.

Solid post-hockey bar. It is good for large groups, has Bell's 2 Hearted on tap (as well as Labatt and other traditional favorites), and the food is good . This bar won't break your budget either, and the service is very good. They bring water to a team out after a game without being asked, which is always a plus in my book.

Came here yesterday with a friend and his wife for a quick bite to eat and to catch up. We met in the middle of where we both live and yelp helped me find this place. Inside was nice. Bar area was expansive and there were many TVs around to catch a game from any table location. The service was fine as well. Drinks and water glasses were always filled. I was waiting so I ordered the Fried Pickles. Have never had them before, but they were pretty good. Can't really compare them to other places, but enjoyable and, for the most part, on the light side. I wasn't super hungry so I just had a Greek Salad. I was a little apprehensive about ordering a salad there, but it was really good. Large chunks of feta, fresh tomatoes and cucumbers, and the dressing was perfect. I will definitely come back to try a burger or big sandwich when my appetite calls for it.

I live around Tavern and I enjoy the times I have been there, service is nice, good food and I love the beer selection. I rather go during summer because is much nicer to seat outside .

Great food and beer, great prices. Crowd tends toward the older side, plus of that is no popped collars from black Finn in this neck of the woods. My personal favorite is the turkey club, but the tavern burger is also excellent. You can watch the cook make your food and all the veggie ingredients seem very fresh.

I found this place on yelp while staying in town for business. I must say this place was a great choice. I ordered the burger, fries and a beer. The burger was hand cooked pretty much right in front of me. I ended up talking with the owner who ended up buying me 2 different beers. (That I had never sampled before) All in all. This place was extremely friendly, tasty and relaxing. I'm planning on going back a few more times while I'm here.

Nice casual place for a beer and a burger on a Friday night. My friend and I went here on a whim, based on the good reviews on Yelp. We were not let down. The place has a very casual vibe, no pressure, not too busy and lots of TVs if you're one of those non-eye contact people. They have some good specials on beer, you can usually get a decent glass for $2. sometimes the glass is shaped like a football. Hi-larious. I usually get the burger, which is pretty good. I've had better, but this place is so damn comfortable, I keep going back for the burgers. Fries are an extra $1.25, which bothers me, but when you get the fries, you get enough for two people. Fries are average, and compliment the burgers well. My friend swears by the fish here, she says the seasoning is just perfect. Fish at a place like this can sometimes be tricky, but this place gets an a-ok. The crowd seems to be the local Clawson crowd (early 30s to mid 50s) and isn't too loud. I guess the loud people are at Black Lotus being all cool and stuff. Nuts to that. All in all, this is a nice place to go after a long week (or day) to just grab a bite and hang.

We used to love Tavern on the Main but were so disappointed on our visit tonight. The burgers appeared to be pre-formed and possibly frozen before cooking. The fancy brioche buns looked giant and expensive, we would have preferred simpler smaller buns and better quality meat. The onion rings were decent but the price is too high for the portion size. The prices in general seemed high for a bar restaurant. On a positive note, our waitress was polite, the patio looks lovely for summer and I was pleased with my glass of Pinot Noir. I gladly pay close to $10 for great quality burgers at others places but the Tavern burger just isn't worth it. We should have gone to Sonic.

Typical, unassuming, local pub....but it works. Maybe it's luck, but each time I've been to TOTM the service has been great, and the food has been delicious. I always tend to get a sandwhich of some sort, my favorite being the Turkey Reuben, and I've never been disappointed....eh, you can't please everyone I guess!

Enjoy the variety on the menu for an establishment of this size- think there are six salads and they are always fresh.

Wouldn't let my chihuahua sit in the outside patio. She was leashed. Every restaurant in Royal oak that has a patio allows dogs. Went down the street to Dooleys & they not only let my K-9 companion in, but they also gave her a water bowl. Get with it Tavern On the Main.

I'm coming back here when I'm back in Troy. I haven't ate here, just a couple of strong drinks at the bar. Bartender was sweet, a little forgetful, but yet attentive. Heard they have trivia on Mondays and Wednesdays.

This is a great place to get some amazing bar food. Every time I come here, I'm always satisfied with the food and service I receive. They always have drink specials and the glasses are shaped like footballs, you can't beat that. The food is all very good. My girlfriend raves about their salads. I've had a few of the appetizers (fried pickles and mac and cheese wedges) and they are both very very good. The last time I got the wings as a meal and they were as good as any wings I've ever had. Great low key place to have a few beers and a great meal at an affordable price.

We had lunch here yesterday for the first time. The service was friendly and fast. The restaurant was not very crowded as it was a late lunch. The food was good but I thought the special of boneless chicken wings and fries on special was a bit pricey at $10. I understand costs are rising but thought it was a bit much for what I got. Will try again

Believe it or not, I'm not a big drinker. I actually like Tavern on the Main for its really good burgers. I should probably say great burgers. When you order a burger, they bring you a condiment tray with pickles, peppers, and other good stuff....a nice "extra". I usually sit at the bar (even if getting just a burger), so I gotta mention Rachel who works behind the bar, she's wonderful....works hard to make sure your visit is a good one. If you sit at the tables, it's hit or miss with the other wait staff.....sometimes they're kinda moody. Typical bar atmosphere. On a busy night, the atmosphere is kinda frantic with the staff literally running around the place. In warm weather, the outdoor patio is really nice.

I wasn't quite sure what to expect from Tavern On the Main, so I decided to go there for dinner one night and find out what it was all about! I enjoyed the burger and fries I got, good portions, tasty food and the price was right. Enjoyed a bottle of Stella for $3.50 (not too bad), and while it seemed like we were some of the younger patrons in the place, I didn't mind it. Plus, they've got Keno, who doesn't like that? :) Will definitely be going back, especially for the patio in the summer!

We usually hit this place up on our yearly Clawson pub crawl. They have decent beer specials and the food is pretty good. The fries are our favorite. They do a have a non-smoking section, but to get there you have to walk through the smoking section.

Yay! A bar near our home that has a great burger! Went a couple of days ago and had a great, affordable meal! I think the burger was better than Red Coat's burger but not as good as Miller's. Nevertheless, looking forward to going back and enjoying a beer on the deck!
