Absolutely love this place! A true charm to clawson. I always love coming here. For breakfast I always get the layered breakfast bowl or eggs Benedict. Both are phenomenal. For lunch, I like to get the turkey melt and a cup of the cabbage soup if they have it on their special. It's truly amazing, like no cabbage soup I've ever had. I bring my friends in all the time and we've had several different waitresses, and have never been disappointed. Living around the corner in troy, this place is perfect for me to come during lunch or breakfast before I get my day started!

Found this nearby on yelp and decided to try it. Glad we did. Service was prompt, food was yummy. I'm usually a healthy eater and was in the mood for breakfast food. The hash browns with green peppers and onions is perfect. Fairly priced, used the 10% off from yelp.

Met a friend for breakfast on a very busy Sunday (good sign). About a 20 minute wait for a table. Food takes a very long time to come out - extremely small cooking area. Service was very pleasant, food was good but coffee was scented water. We will try it again. And order juice instead.

Great local spot in Clawson. They recently upgraded their restaurant and doubled the size! It now looks modern and it's a blessing to have such good food and friendly servers so close by.

Our waitress was very friendly. Rich menu and good environment. They offer breakfast menu all day long which is amazing. The diner deli menu is great. Good for groups and kids (kids menu available). The platters portion is great.

I know. You're saying, "five stars, eh?" Yeah. Five stars in the category of diners the Clawson grill is pretty spot on. It's not craft food. It's just good ole American food with friendly service. I've been here many times after work meetings and have always had quick, prompt, friendly service. That's super important. The food can be amazing but have bad service. The service can be amazing but have bad food. It's always nice when you get both. Basically, I'm surprised I haven't written a review for this place yet. I talk about it all the time. In fact, I was just telling someone about this place yesterday. See, I'm a foodie (obvs) and will spend a good deal of money on a meal. But I also like a good delicious deal. When I find delicious deals.... I'm the foodie rainman and will talk about it over and over again. Let me tell you about the fried chicken dinner and then I'll drop the mic. First and foremost it's 7.99. Yessss! 7.99. What do you get? Peppery, crispy fried chicken. Four pieces (leg, wing, thigh, and breast), your choice of potato, a cup of soup of your choice, Cole slaw or a salad, AND Texas toast. Say whaaa? I know, right... Awesome. Simply awesome. Did I mention it's only 8 bucks! Now I would say that most people would have leftovers. Actually, I think most people do, but I can't help myself. I eat it all. I just love fried chicken. I remember my mother always used to say that I ate so much chicken that I would turn into one someday. I'm apparently still trying. Lol fried chicken and fries is my kryptonite. It's really my fried chicken go to place. Can't beat it. Might as well go get you a budget fried chicken meal. If you're good you can have a leftover second meal too!

I'm not really sure what people like about this place except that the waitstaff is very friendly and the kitchen area is kept visibly clean. The food is less than mediocre. Sorry :( Wish people didn't hype it up so much online, it was really misleading.

I remember when this place was just a small diner for the locals. Even back then they had great food. For brunch, we ordered the TC Cherry French Toast and a Breakfast Bowl. Both were delicious and we left leaving full. The wall that is in between both sides of the restaurant is a little awkward but that just means business is good for them. The waitstaff and nice and friendly and also attentive.

I've only been here a couple of times and I think I can fairly safely say this is my favorite establishment in the area to order breakfast. I don't often go out for breakfast (usually have coffee and a smoothie before I leave the house in the morning and then all set until lunch) but Clawson Grill is causing me to reconsider that. From a quality to price "value scale", there is none better that I know of. Everything on the menu is very reasonably priced and while not gourmet it's clearly a step or three above standard diner fare. I've had the corned beef hash, which was phenomenal, as well as the Clawson Omelette, which is one of the best Omelette's I've ever had. Perfectly pre-prepped, perfectly cooked, perfect ratios of ingredients, so so good. The people in the kitchen CARE and it SHOWS. I can't wait to run through the rest of the menu in the coming years. Clawson Grill is the real deal, folks.

Forget trying to squeeze into the Fly Trap or Coco Fairfield's (as much as I love them) on a Saturday morning five minutes after the sun has come up. Fancy waiting in line for 45 minutes outside Toast? Me neither. I shouldn't out the best breakfast option for a lazy weekend, but here you have it. The Clawson Grill is an establishment that recently underwent a much needed facelift, opening up a fresh new space with tables and booths on one side, and several booths adjacent to the open kitchen space. The renovation refreshed a friendly diner into something a little hipper, a little cooler, and still every bit as awesome and reliable for breakfast as my Huntington Woods-native beau remembers from his childhood. First up, the ambiance is laid back and the service kicky and friendly. When I've hauled the baby in, no one ever looks at me askance like I just toted in toxic waste in a leaky can. The friendly staff engage their regulars and make newcomers feel welcome, all the while making eyes at my little ham. You can kick back and relax without pretensions, but still feel the experience is several notches up from a greasy spoon coney. The menu is enormous, covering a gauntlet of omelets and egg dishes galore. There are also hamburgers, sandwiches, salads, soups, and many other entrees I don't pay much attention to because breakfast is the most important meal of the day and Clawson Grille really excels at breakfast. Prices are inexpensive, especially since three can dine for breakfast for under $20. Further, a chalkboard lists specials of the day. A sampling during my visits has included: pumpkin pancakes, a super-berry oatmeal with granola, a spinach and cheese omelet over red-skin potatoes, and a dishy corned beef omelet and red-skin potatoes that was definitely the item du jour for my fellow diners. Portions are generous and toasty, but they don't come so excessively large you need a four-person family to devour your plate. You will walk away feeling definitely full though. My favourites here are invariably the omelets. The Clawson omelet is the bomb, simplicity itself when served up with a side of salsa. Mmm! Their breakfast bowls are also a great choice, featuring eggs, hashbrowns, meat of choice, and cheese. Veggies are an excellent addition. Beware, though, the bowls will send you back to bed to sleep it off. I've never seen the Grill less than half full even at odd hours, and never so packed we had to wait. It's a perfect balance between showing up and eating, and food comes quick and hot. Not one bad experience here: they hands down win.

This place is interesting. Went here today with a friend, I had a BOGO coupon from the Entertainment book. Yelp also has a 10% off coupon for checking in there, but I've heard they won't take it. I was eyeing the Reese's pieces pancakes but ended up with a turkey burger with fries, thanks to Shannon M. telling me their fries are delish (and they are! Soft but not too soft, and yummy). The turkey burger had grilled onions and mushrooms on it, which is why I chose it. I think it was about $5.99 for both (like $4 plus change for the sandwich, and an extra $1.49 for fries). My friend got an omelette, so with the BOGO it was about $6 total which was so cheap. I guess they recently expanded so it was almost like two restaurants - next door was more sparse, and the side where we sat had more of a diner/grill feel. Kind of a weird set-up but that means more space, so that's always good. I'd like to come back here and try a more breakfast-y meal, we arrived around 1pm and I wanted a sandwich this time. Parking is FREE (yay, Clawson!) and is kind of to the right and in back of the building. I live in Troy which is about a 5-minute drive, so I'll come back here for breakfast some day hopefully.

The only thing I love more than good diner food is good diner food outdoors. And the only thing I love more than that is service with a genuine smile. And it's even in one of the friendliest, most walkable little downtown areas around. New favorite spot!

  • Tavis S.

Layered Breakfast Bowl That's all you need to know. Inexpensive, large portions and the service here was good. Definitely a place I would come to again when I'm in town.

  • Tori B.

Better than a typical diner, this spot has great menu items for a relatively good price. Great brunch/breakfast items and lunch eats with pretty fast service. The wait staff is always warm and welcoming with great attitudes. My biggest complaint was how small is was inside, but they just recently expanded their space into the next building, and the renovation is trendy and SPACIOUS! So now my only complaint is that I just wish they served brunch cocktails. Then I would be there every Sunday. My go-to is their Breakfast Bowl - you really can't go wrong, unless you're a vegetarian.

I love to go here because of the fast and friendly service. The Clawson omelette is my favorite. It is also an incredible value.

Clawson Grill is a hidden gem in Clawson. This family restaurant has an outstanding breakfast, offering many breakfast specials. Their eggs benedict, specialty pancakes, and omelets are delicious, as well as their red skin potatoes. Service is always prompt and the waitresses are friendly. On the weekends expect a wait, but is better in the summer when their patio has opened. They have recently added on by taking the spot next to them and this has helped with the wait. I have not eaten at Clawson Grill for anything but breakfast, but I have had their soups, which are homemade, and delicious. I should try it soon for lunch or dinner.

The servers are always so friendly. Stacie is so amazing. We ordered a carry out today and she left a note on the container for my daughter it made her so happy. Cheryl is always cool, and quick to keep the caffeine coming :) The girls friendly service are what keep us coming back.

  • Allison F.

I've been here a handful of times with my father-in-law. We visit on the weekend, and have only ordered breakfast. This place is constantly packed. The food is fresh and delicious and the servers are friendly, although they always seem stretched a little thin. The outdoor patio recently expanded and it's seriously divine. If the weather allows, eat outside!

  • Emily M.

The food is great, but the service is what we love most! If you're looking for a neighborhood hangout for breakfast or brunch, go here. You'll feel like you belong after just one visit. We've met so many friendly people while in line waiting for a table. The servers are so helpful and friendly. I especially love the French Toast. My husband likes the Corned Beef Hash. I want to try the Eggs Benedict next.

    (5)
  • Jason J.

The food is good. The service sucks!! My girlfriend & I waited almost 15 minutes for the server to take our order. She wasn't very personable either. We've been looking for a new place for breakfast for a while. This isn't it.....next!!

    (3)
  • Eli N.

In the land of brunch, this place wins on all fronts: short wait, good service and hot, delicious food. They do both sweet and savory very will and prices won't hurt your wallet; I'd recommend the stuffed raspberry French toast and the layered breakfast bowl. Haven't tried out other diner classics (salads, burgers, etc.) but judging by other plates, it looks like they handle it with equal grace. The only reluctance I have in writing this review is that this hidden gem may be found.

  • Scott X.

I REALLY wanted to like this place. They have outdoor seating in downtown Clawson and are in the process of expanding to take over a vacant space nextdoor. But it's kind of grimey. One of our menus had food fall out when it was opened. I had to use my menu to kill some giant bugs hanging out on the window by our table. And there was hair in my biscuits and gravy. The service and location are the main redeeming qualities. I just really wish it were more cleanly.

    (2)
  • B J.

Awesome. One of the best diners in the entire area. They have the absolute nicest staff/servers in the world. The service can be a little slow during the weekend breakfast rush, but it's a small kitchen, so it's expected. Everything I've had here, including several breakfast and lunch items, has been very good. They have classics like omelettes and your normal eggs/bacon/pancakes. But they also get creative with breakfast croissants, eggs benedict, and some blueberry stuffed french toast. The servers are extremely accommodating and friendly. The patio is large and spacious and a great spot in the summer. If you want to avoid the wait at Original Pancake House or Mae's, and don't want to go to a more uptight place like Cafe Muse, this is your spot.

Standard diner. Nothing special. Good staff. Not sure what the rage is all about. Been there 4 times... maybe I'm missing something.

Pretty good, I gotta say. Arrived there and the waitress was wonderful and nice, we got our meals pretty quickly, and the the food was good. I ordered the Chicken Pita and my friend ordered the Mini Chicken Tacos with a side of fries. We got plenty of fries, enough for the both of us to share! The mini chicken tacos weren't especially exciting, but the chicken pita with lettuce, tomatoes and mayo was great. Food was cheap but great, the waitresses and staff were wonderful, definitely coming back again.

We've been here for breakfast on Sundays and always enjoy it. Good service, great coffee, yummy breakfast. I recommend their french toast with dearborn ham. They also make a mean eggs benedict although it is only a special from time to time and not on regular menu.

    (4)
  • Ray B.

It's a local grill- decent food, fair price points and no nonsense service. Free parking to the south of the building. They have expanded into the space next to them- either they are going for a stark industrial look or it's a work in process.

A real treasure in Clawson. They have a Great Staff and Delicious Food. I love there Lunches and Breakfasts!! I had a Black bean Burger that was yummy. The French Toast is always a favorite of mine. I love the Coffee. The Owners are super nice. One of my very favorite Restaurants.

  • Joe T.

A diner on Main Street with a real Clawson hometown feeling. Had the All-American double patty burger and, oh my, was it filling! It was juicy and very meaty - cost well under $10 with fries. My wife had a chicken pita wrap and was very satisfied as well. We both had a very filling lunch for under $20 WITH the tip included. Pretty amazing. If you are looking for a casual diner with comfort food for cheap - this is a good place. Limited seating inside, nice seating outside, and friendly intuitive staff. The kitchen is pretty much right there, and it's a small diner so inside does get a bit greasy smelling. If it's nice I suggest you sit outside. My only disappointment is that they don't serve beer. Two thumbs up!

  • Rachel W.

Absolutely love going to this place for Sunday breakfast! The breakfast bowl is amazing! The new renovation is awesome and I'm sure is bringing in a ton more business. Staff is a little slow at first but it seemed as if they were under staffed the days I went. But none the less, love coming here for breakfast!

    (4)
  • Mike L.

Extraordinarily slow service. 10 minutes to get a drink order in. 10 minutes to get our drinks - which were both wrong. 10 minutes to get a menu. 20 minutes wait after we got our check to have them actually take the money. I am a person who on a cheap breakfast like this will tip anywhere from 30-100% with a minimum tip of $5 on any check. This one got 15% and that was probably more than deserved. The restaurant seems to randomly assign tables instead of assigning sections and because of this all of the waitresses are running around constantly all over the place and totally duplicating efforts. Not a fun experience. Food was OK but nothing special. Decent food, but really needs a manager to get the front of house in order. Plus is that it's very inexpensive and portions are large. And the hash browns were very good. Has potential.

I'm extremely disappointed in the way this place chose to handle their mistake. I called in a carryout order and went to pick it and was told it was lost so they needed to redo the order. Never once was there an apology, and even more so there was not any effort to make it right. Instead, I had to sit and wait for another 15 minutes as if I just walked in and placed the order. This made the entire process take 45 minutes, and is absolutely ridiculous when not even an apology was given. It was only excuses about how busy they were...overall very disappointed with my first experience here.

    (1)
  • Lesley R.

Went here with my husband for breakfast. They were very busy. We waited about 10 mins for a table. Very small place for sure, you would think they would of used the open space they use for waiting area with nicer tables, they had plastic seats. Anyway the food was good just don't think we would return there.

Amazing my mom has been going here for 26 years and it never dossappoints. She swears it cures hangovers. Clawson ommelette is delicous, i get it all the time now. Look for breakfast specials too! My friends love the Pumpkin Pancakes

Nice diner, great place for breakfast. Service is good. My coffee was always topped off. Food is reasonably priced and came very fast. Dining area isn't huge. I was there on a weekday so there was no wait and place was about half full. There is a parking lot on the side if the building or street parking up front.

  • Kelli B.

Excellent food, never disappoints! If there is a small wait on a Sunday morning it's worth it! The young gentleman at the check in was very polite and even came and got me when my name was called (I didn't hear as I was distracted with my phone) Many choices, it's hard to decide and everything is delicious!

  • Scott K.

Best bang for your buck for miles around. Breakfast is superb. The Greek omelet is amazing: gyro meat, green peppers and feta cheese, and at around $6 it comes with hash browns and toast.

    (5)
  • Valerie K.

This place is sort of a little gem in downtown Clawson. It's your basic diner - burgers for lunch, eggs/omlets for breakfast. No surprises here. But there's something inviting about the place. Its sort of like the diners you'd find up North with local ladies serving up coffee and a dude in the back frying up your eggs. It's nice. The place is tiny. If you go on a weekend morning around 9:30 expect to wait. But the staff is always quite friendly. And there's a patio outside for those early summer Saturdays when you want to sip coffee and enjoy a downtown-y atmosphere somewhere other than Royal Oak. There's a large, free parking lot available so no meters or fighting for space. Bring the kids or that guy you brought home last night. Either way you wont be disappointed.

    (4)
  • Joe D.

Had breakfast here twice this weekend with a friend and it's still as good as last year. If you want a gourmet breakfast this isn't your place. However, if you want a country breakfast - eggs, bacon, sausage, ham and so forth then you're good here. It's inexpensive and good with above average service. Just wish they had an assortment of coffee drinks but again it's not gourmet in any way. Check it out.

GREAT place for breakfast/brunch. Consistently good food at great prices. Service is usually excellent!

  • Sarah H.

Our favorite place for cheap and quick breakfast or lunch. Inside or outside is great, but we love sitting on the patio and enjoying the beautiful weather. The patio is dog friendly and the service is fast and friendly too. The salad and omelettes are great and the oatmeal awesome- everything (milk, brown sugar, and raisins) comes separate so you can put it together yourself.

Have only been here once and we both got something off their breakfast special board, we were both very happy and will most Def be back!

One of the best breakfast spots in Clawson! Cheap, quick and delicious. The hardest part is there is limited seating. Just wait a few and something will open up. Great breakfast, awesome small town atmosphere, speedy service (you'll never wait on coffee!) and extremely affordable.

  • Seoung L.

Great service, Great food, Low prices, and great loaction... It fits all the criteria for a great restaurant. I only been here once but I know I will be coming here more often. I got the layered breakfast bowl and it was amazing. One of the best breakfast food I have eaten in awhile. It had layers and layers of the best breakfast food. It's very heavy but it's tasty. I would share this with someone if you're not that hungry. The homemade biscuits was one of the best I have eaten. So fresh baked. I also tried the Rueben Omelette and it was really good. The coffe was great as well. The service was excellent since I never once needed to look for my waitress for refills for the coffee or getting anything I needed. It was little crowded on a saturday brunch / lunch time. It had a great outdoor seating area but it was too cold to use. I recommend this place as one of the best place for breakfast or lunch.

An all American Grill with an all American breakfast. Clawson Grill is the small breakfast spot that every downtown areas needs. Everything I've had for breakfast has been great from the croissant breakfast sandwich, meat lovers omelette to the Traverse City cherry french toast. It's a must try if you're in the Clawson area!

First time there got a monte cristo, it was not good and there was a hair in it. Service was good. Probably will never go back

We've managed to branch out and try some other things on the menu, my favorite being the chicken pita. Yum! It may be better than the hani from National. We've also brought some friends and family here and they seemed to enjoy it. They are expanding now too so the wait during the wekend morning rush (although worth it) should be lessened.

  • Jennifer G.

The breakfast here is awesome. Dearborn ham, pancakes, good coffee with flavored creamers all at a very affordable price. I took a star away as we came for lunch and the beef stroganoff was fair at best. Would highly recommend breakfast.

Could not tell you about the food, the wait staff was so rude we left. First we walked in and the waitress just looked at us no smile. The sign said seat yourself, but we had a party of 9 and no table that size. After asking a couple times if we could sit in a open space in an adjoining room with no response we just sat down there. Finally a waitress came to tell us that we could not sit there no explanation as to why and that we could sit in multiple booths. We have a large family and if we were welcomed that would of not been a problem instead we were not welcomed, they definitely did not want us there.

    (1)
  • Jay B.

Nice little dive. One waitress and one cook working when I arrived at 745 and she had 9 tables. She was able to take care of everyone, but there were dirty tables that she couldn't clean. Additional staff showed about 830 as I was leaving. Now for the food. I ordered the Reuben Omelette with rye toast. The omelette was wonderful and very happy I ordered it. One thing about dives, they drown their toast in butter and this one did it as well, to the point that it had permeated the entire slice. I would eat here again if ever in the area

This is the family's new spot for post-church grub action. Been here 5 times now, with the wife and kids and without. Great food, good people, good prices, wife love's the breakfast specials. Last time we came, our service was really sketchy....whereas normally, it's terrific. We have only had breakfast here so I can't comment on anything else but I can't imagine it being anything less than stellar. Sitting outside in the warm weather is really nice. (Bees always suck but what are you gonna do?) Even the people we sit around are super nice.....you gotta check this place out......Great find.

My wife and I live in Clawson and go to Clawson Grill often. It's our "go to" place for breakfast. I cannot say enough good stuff about this place. The food is always great and the staff is incredible. The owner is there all the time and is very active. This place does everything right when running a business. And, it is CLEAN! The best!

    (5)
  • Chuck H.

Waitstaff wasn't all that friendly, brought the food back and gave it to the wrong people, had to send back eggs that were overdone and ask that cheese not be added then had to listen to her and the cook argue about it. Busboy puts tub ON THE TABLE to take off plates.. Second time there, both times disappointing. Won't go back.

  • Jenn A.

Somehow this has become one of our go-to weekend breakfast places. We like to sit at the counter and we always have great service. Quick, accurate and the waitstaff make suggestions when we are just not sure if we want to get the same old thing.

  • Erin B.

LOVE this place! It is my number one breakfast spot. It is also my go to spot for dinner whenever I don't feel like cooking. Free wifi, quick service, fresh ingredients, great specials, friendly staff.......what more can you ask for from a diner? Hands down the best hidden gem in Clawson!

    (5)
  • Rosie P.

Food is ok, but the diner is quite dirty. Our bowl of coffee creamers had a gross hair affixed to it by some sticky substance. Also, it was unbearably hot on the day we were there. I'm usually freezing, and wear multiple layers, but on our visit, I was sweating in a t-shirt in December. The staff was friendly, though, and food came out quick.

Great, inexpensive food! You definitely get a lot for your money. Service was great, along with the friendly staff. Will for sure keep this on our list of places to eat :)

We were looking for a decent place for breakfast one morning and we picked a good one here. We had omelets. A few things that I love about a place are when the staff is sit down at the spare chair at your table friendly, they have pumpernickel bread and the cooks actually cook. Plus 3 for the Clawson Grill.

Their food is great, cheap and most importantly their staff is so nice and attentive! If you are looking for diner food go here!!

One of our favorite places for breakfast! The Clawson omelette is award winning in my books, it's beyond deeeelish! Staff is always warm and friendly. My favorite thing about Clawson Grill is that their patio is dog friendly - not many places welcome your furry friend over the patio line. We're there for breakfast a few times a month, it's always at the top of our list. Check em out!

Cannot beat the value/taste combo of their breakfast. I've been here multiple times and both my stomach and wallet were satisfied. Love their omelettes. Very friendly staff.

There are a million places to get diner food, coneys, and breakfast so maybe my expectations were low but this place knocked my socks off. The restaurant is comfortable and the service is very prompt and kind. The first time I was there a guest left something at the table and the waitress ran out in the pouring rain to return it. The big board of specials always has something with a little twist like a BLT wrap. And the food is delicious. The soups seem like they are homemade, really homemade. So just go for the homemade chicken noodle soup that is enough of a reason. The hamburgers are very tasty, not some frozen patty - no, they are fresh! I found myself craving this little place. I rarely like to go out for lunch during the week but I found the car driving itself there. I haven't tried breakfast yet so I have that to look forward to! See you at the Clawson Grill!

My family and I live in Clawson and LOVE the Clawson grill! Why is this place so fabulous?! First It's the top notch service. I have to be honest, we have two daughters who are 1 and 3 and dining out with them is a disaster! My kids are awesome for about 15-20 minutes but soon or later they get bored and hungry. The staff is also accommodating to our children and go out of their way to ensure we have a good dining experience. Service is always prompt and the food is always good. We are regulars here and always recommend this place to those who drive though Clawson.

So first off I have to apologize for being absent for the past few months - I was busy gettin' hitched and honeymooning in Europe! Yay! So the day we got back from our honeymoon, we decided to keep on keepin' on with our food splurging...so we tried Clawson Grill! What a great surprise! This place is seriously phenomenal. I think the waitress thought we were on drugs because of the amount of food we ordered (and you better believe we ate it ALL!!). So we ordered the layered breakfast bowl, Mexican omelette and pancakes to split! Everything was fresh and homemade and you could tell. The chili on my omelette....out of this world!! Although it is hot dog chili which I am obsessed with...so if you don't like that stuff then this isn't the dish for you. My husband's (!!) breakfast bowl was huge and delicious with tons of meat, gravy, hashbrowns, cheese, and other goodies. And the pancakes were SOOOO good!! They were fluffy and soaked up the syrup perfectly. I highly recommend this place and I can't wait to go back!!

Always great. My gf introduced me to this place over the summer and I cannot refuse eating here. I've only ordered bkfst but I'm sure lunch is just as good. Staff is always good. CG is just what a Diner should be.

Got a carry out last night around six. Not very good and we go there all the time I believe there's a new chef according to one of the servers. It was her go to place. :(

This was the first time at Clawson grill. Love the eggs and meat option. However, the pancakes were a little disappointment. I asked for banana and pecan pancakes as a side. They were too sweet. The pancakes came with the syrup on them already, I wish I had control of the syrup. I will ask them for it on the side next time. Definitely going back for more. It's good to love and support a local eatery & this one wins it. Definitely recommend it to fam and friends.

The hubs and I stopped by here on a whim while in Clawson for some last minute dinner. It was a really pleasant surprise! The decor is modern, updated and clean. Very warm and comforting inside and the server was super friendly. Large menu, VERY reasonably priced food and a good variety. Big board of daily specials as well. I ordered the patty melt and the hubs ordered the "Arnie Burger." Both burgers were hand-pattied, big and super juicy. My patty melt was on decent rye bread, grilled perfectly and TONS of melty cheese and caramelized onions. His burger was topped with a ton of grilled veggies and feta cheese. The fries were ample, although not quite salted enough. We never went without a full glass of pop and our server paid very close attention to us the whole time. The only reason I refrain from a 5 star review is because it was one visit. But we agreed we'll be back - it was a really nice little restaurant.

Very nice waitress. Good solid food. Food is always good for a nice hearty meal. Place is expanding so hopefully will update the decor at some point. Thanks

Clawson Grill is one of those places that you see when you drive by, but don't think too much of. Until you step in and try their food. I've had the pleasure of enjoying a late lunch on their patio, as well as a few hangover plagued breakfasts here. I will get decor/service/price/etc out of the way first. The decor is, as stated, cozy but dated. Don't expect much and you'll be fine. The grill is out in the open, which is a nice touch as you can watch all the food being made. The patio is very nice, with plenty of plants and a general "Hayyyy its summer" attitude going on. The service, every time I have been, has been good to top notch. Last time I went, alone for lunch, my server checked back on me pretty regularly, just the right amount of attention. Price wise, this place is on par with your average coney joint. Which is good. The food is better than most coney joints. Food here is pretty good, I would say. Their breakfast menu is pretty unique compared to what most other "grills" offer, with plenty of omelettes as well as plenty of other good breakfast staples. Everything I've eaten breakfast wise has been great, from the omelettes to the pancakes, to just their basic breakfast platter. Their lunch/dinner menu is, again, pretty standard, but seems to be a higher quality than, say, National or Kerby's. I last had the Philly Cheesesteak, which I actually really enjoyed since I knew going into it that it wasn't going to be authentic. If you really think you're going to find an authentic one around here, you're a raging moron. But for what it was, and the price I payed, it was good. I definitely love this place for what it is, just a nice little grill with reasonable prices and good quality food. Its not magically unique or something, but it has quality staples and good service. That is a lot better than most places that try to be ~so unique~

Great place for breakfast! Service is friendly, my coffee I swear is refilled every 3 minutes. I order the breakfast burrito pretty much every time, but everything is great there. Can't recommend them enough!

My boyfirend wanted to go somewhere new, somewhere we hadn't been before. So I looked on Yelp and picked Clawson Grill. I am so glad I did. I loved it, and I plan to go there a lot more. The food was excellent, I loved the breakfast bowl I ordered, which had excellen sausage gravy, rivals my love for my Mom's. My Boyfriend ordered a chicken sandwich, and he loved his meal as well. The service was as excellent as the food. Everyone was very attentive, making sure we refills and taking our plates away.

The waitstaff is very friendly and helpful. Food is delivered in almost lightning fast speed. Good prices and delicious specials. The Clawson Grill has become my 'Go To' place. When my group of tight friends wants some amazing breakfast this is where we go. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and ingredients. I have a close friend who has severe food allergies and every time we have gone to the Grill they have gone out of their way to make sure everything is perfect and she leaves without any rouge nuts. They are very accommodating with those who have allergies - which is kind of a big deal! The outdoor patio seating is nice in the summer. There is no slowing the service just because you're outside either - they are right on top of everything you need! The food is delicious too. We usually go there for breakfast and some of my favorites are the eggs benedict, breakfast burrito, yogurt with granola, french toast, and of course the make your own omelets. Each time I have something new I'm still impressed. I recommend the Club Sandwich for lunch on Pumpernickel. They use real meat, instead of just layers of processed lunch meat, so the flavor is amazing! As long as I live in Clawson I will continue to eat at the Clawson Grill!

The 5 star rating is based on breakfast only! This coney has been the go to breakfast joint for my wife and I for the last 10 years. Never was disappointed with breakfast there. The service is top notch! Great value for the meal!

Good food. Even better service. And THE BEST prices in town. I usually end up tipping 50% since the food is so cheap. Awesome Sunday brunch place for some home cookin'. Fast. Tasty. Cheap. My kinda place.

Not much to write. Great food. Great people. Great price. Can't fault a place for having a wait to be seated sometimes. That only means it's something people really enjoy.

Cozy atmosphere, great daily specials, served with a smile. Be sure to try the country fried steak breakfast or the Clawson omelette. Yum

Yay, Clawson Grill! This is our go-to breakfast spot. Great prices, daily specials, same great service and a solid meal every time. Classic American breakfast fare. I love the patio in the summer, and they have "good Coke"...it's nice and syrupy. Keep up the good work!

This is a great little place. Large portions of very well prepared food. The prices are fantastic. Really good staff compliments the wonderful food. Be warned, it's a smaller place. So get there before the usual crowded times if you want a seat.

I lived in Clawson for over a year before stopping in The Grill during one of my walks around town. It's a little hidden treasure with a great sidewalk patio during the summer. I eat breakfast here almost every single day. I'm addicted to it. They have the best blueberry pancakes. I look forward to seeing Sarah, Angie, Stephanie, Tammy and Alex for breakfast. I always eat alone and they went out of their way to learn my name and chat with me. There are some days that after breakfast, I will order a carry-out for lunch and dinner. It's because of the Clawson Grill that I don't go grocery shopping. I read other reviews and they mentioned "greasy spoon". I have had "greasy spoon" and the Clawson Grill is not it.

Not bad. Not bad at all. They were talking up the french toast, so I gave it a whirl. A little bit of cinnamon overload and it wasn't anything overwhelming, but the biscuits and gravy? YUM! Even the half order was good enough for me. Eggs were a little rubbery though, and the service could have been a little quicker (granted it was a Sunday morning but it wasn't packed in there), but it was alright. I'll probably be back.

Very friendly waitstaff. Very fast food. Very good prices. Great daily specials. Under new ownership since Spring 2010 and this place is now a totally new and improved place it's so great. Fresh fruit bowls, granola and yogurt and all your favorite greasy breakfast classics. They jazz up their french toast, pancake and waffle offerings daily w/ blueberries and strawberries. Eggs benedict is very good. Breakfast burrito, etc.etc. Patio seating was great this summer. Great Greek salads and sandwiches. Ignore any reviews dated before May, 2010. The staff, ownership, menu and facility are completely new and updated. As a Local, I am so proud of this place. It's my regular spot for cheap but great weekend breakfast and lunch. Every single one of my friends agree, too. They always ask if we should go to the grill. This is what casual joints aspire to be.

I have stopped here a few times for a weekday breakfast. Prices are reasonable and the food is tasty. I would highly recommend the Clawson Grill for a good and fairly priced meal.

Whammy! To me breakfast is traditional. It celebrates the Egg, the potato, the meat, the toast. This place has my breakfast tradition in check. The best part was the breakfast potatos. Not hashbrowns. Thinly sliced goodness that was grilled to perfection. They had a nice potato flavor. Unlike the typical frozen stringy hash brown mush of other local family joints. The ham was spiral sliced Dearborn. A healthy portion at that. I like. If you are looking for a place to get the normal breakfast-nothing fancy but on the cheap that tastes good. Switch it up from your normal hang out and give this place a try.

Clawson Grill is a pretty solid "family diner" experience. They have made some attempts at modernizing the facility (big screen TV, new artwork, etc.), but it has that familiar "greasy spoon" type feel. The food is standard fare, though the specials were indeed a little special, or set apart from the regular menu. During our most recent visit (7/30/10) I opted for the chicken strips dinner and my husband opted for the Reuben. We also ordered an appetizer of breaded mushrooms. The breading on the 'shrooms was nice and the mushrooms themselves were great, but they came out a little too deep-fried for our tastes. My chicken strips were also really dark. Not burned, but very, very brown. The Reuben was "missing some zing" according to my husband, but he noted the coleslaw tasted fresh and offered a lot of crunch. We weren't blown away, but we liked the waitstaff and would return to sample their "anytime" breakfast. I say give them a try! What the fixtures are lacking you make up in friendly staff and decent food for a fair price. We would certainly go back.

Great spot for breakfast. Short order grill type place. The breakfast burrito was great. Didn't have the breakfast bowl but it sounded intriguing. It's a bowl filled with all the breakfast fixins; potatoes, eggs, choice of breakfast meat, sausage gravy, cheese...etc.

Lived in Clawson for 5 years and have never stopped in until the other day based on the reviews. Small little greasy spoon, but for the type of place the food and atmosphere were excellent. I had the classic Reuben with fries and coleslaw. The sandwich was excellent and had plenty of cheese on it (plus side for me). The corned beef was chopped nicely and the bread was fried perfectly. The fries were the skinny type of fries and gave you plenty with your order. My wife had the fried egg sandwich with ham and said it was on the best she has ever had. Her highlight was that the egg was fried so that the egg whites had turned "crispy". This is the sign of a great fried egg sandwich. Price is right and the food is great. Highly recommended.

There's something that's comforting about circling your maple syrup atop butter soaked pancakes with led zeppelins "all of my love" playing on a Saturday morning. These guys have it down. Nice decor, good prices, and great food. What gives them 5 stars is that they have peanut butter! Best breakfast around, hands down.

The bbq"d pulled pork sandwich. Beats the hell out of anyone else's. Hands down. No competition whatsoever. Soup is great, stacked ham sandwich is great, breakfast specials are very good! They've just recently fixed up the decor and we love the outside seating. Downtown Clawson is really up and coming and this is a very tasty place to eat! FREE WIFI!!!

When I need an old-school greasy spoon to sooth my soul I turn to The Clawson Grill. I really like the no-frills style of this place and the delicious comfort the food gives me is a rare pleasure.

I finally had a chance to go inside the "new" Clawson Grill, and I am compelled to say more. The interior has been spruced up with spiffy 1950's-esque industrial-airplane propeller-looking ceiling fans, modern lighting, bright pop art prints. It was pleasantly packed and bustling. The waitresses are smiling pros. . The mystery of why pancakes with gooey chocolate chips work with sweet maple syrup will forever allude me, but it will not keep me from enjoying them...specially here, where you can get a half order if you want, dolled up with whipped creme and a side of bacon for under $5. It's so refreshing to be able to get exactly what I want in the amount that I want it, for the price I want. But most of all, it's the people. Families, seniors, 20-somethings rising from a rough night -- all in the same place, every one of them making their eventual exit by saying something like, "'Til next time!" or "We'll be back" or "It was fantastic to see you!" The tone of the unanimous banter is that of familiarity, comfort, friends, between guests and staff alike. Can you really credit a place for their clientele? Visit Clawson Grill, and you'll agree that the answer is a resounding yes. This place is community, and it makes me proud and content, renter though I am. When we were walking to our car, I kid you not, we both agreed that we'd like to buy property in Clawson...BECAUSE OF OUR EXPERIENCE AT A TINY GRILL! Wow, that's powerful stuff.
