So, a co-worker could not believe I have never been, or even heard of Red Olive. She loves, and raves about it. So, upon her recommendation, I ordered the Bistro Salad with a side of evoo and red wine vinegar. WOW, one of the best salads I have had. And, I order alot of salads. The approximately $9 salad is more than enough for 2 servings. Huge, fresh, and mighty tasty. I'll be back! We did carry out, so can not speak to service, other than my order was correct. Highly recommend the Bistro Salad. Yummo!

Red Olive is a restaurant that describes itself as Middle Eastern/Greek cuisine, but in reality it is in the middle of an identity crisis. I say this because the menu is more or less a typical American style restaurant that tried to accommodate everyone, but doesn't really do any one thing all that well. For example, they have a large section of their menu devoted to stir-fry. The food itself was middle of the road. Nothing truly exceptional, but not terrible either. If you are looking to eat somewhere that is going to be easy and simple, this place is perfect. The service was interesting. Our server was great and really connected with us. She was relaxed and really made the night fun. She forgot some parts of our order, but she was really nice about it and took care of it.

Me and my g/f wanted a quick lunch. She order chicken gyros with no cheese and tomatoes. And I ordered chicken noodle soup. My soup comes out spilled all over the plate and no noodles in them. She comes back and say sorry I forgot the noodles. My g/f sandwich comes and it has extra tomatoes and full of cheese. We thought it was a joke. Now it's 20 min that we have wasted. Waitress takes her plate and says we'll make u another sandwich. She took the fries after we asked if we can keep them. 5 min later she comes back with the same fries. We we're like. Are u kidding me? At least come back with fresh fries. My g/f was so ticked off that we said forget about the sandwich and they had the nerve to charge me for the cup of soup. That's my second bad experience there. They need a better staff!!

I went to Red Olive with my parents last night for dinner. They were both looking forward to it because they really like the food. Our waitress was really nice. When I ordered myself a chicken avocado wrap, I asked for it with no tomato. She heard me, repeated it back to me, and wrote it down. Too bad the kitchen didn't listen. She noticed the tomatoes when she handed me the plate and offered to take them off for me. I said I thought I could do it. Turned out they were cut too small and there was way too many of them to get them out myself. When she came back to serve the table behind us some coffee, she asked if I wanted it remade. I gave up trying to remove the tomatoes and said yes. Took about 5 minutes for them to make me a new one thankfully. My parents both ordered a gyros sandwich of some sort and both enjoyed them, although apparently they have two versions of tzatziki sauce, one which is more yogurt flavored, and one that is less yogurt flavored. My dad's not a fan of the one they had last night-the more yogurt flavored one, but he ate it all anyway. My real gripe with Red Olive was this: After my meal, I wasn't feeling too well. I had to go to the bathroom for a bit. When I was finally done, I came out to find that my parents were no longer sitting in their booth, but outside in their car. Why was this? Because Red Olive staff kept giving them funny looks while they sat there waiting for me. I don't know if they didn't realize I was still there in the bathroom or not, but it was pretty rude of them to stare down my parents like that. They were not closing at the time, nor were they remotely busy (even on a Friday night at 8). Yet they even sent our waitress over to ask if my mom was okay. Apparently it's a crime for you to sit there for a bit after you pay the check. The food is okay, but it's nothing to write home about for me. I'm of course biased because I lived near Greektown in Chicago for a year (and was a customer at Hellas in Detroit's Greektown for several years before they closed), but to me, this food was only worth 3 stars. The nice waitress we had would've earned them a 4th if they hadn't all glared at my parents and made them feel very uncomfortable and unwelcome while I was in the bathroom. That was pretty lame.

Great portions but Greek salad was head lettuce. Friendly service and plenty of TVs.

I heard good things about this place. Once I got there, I ordered a greek salad. As I was eating it, I found a bug in my salad. They still charged us for my friend's entree and the appetizer we got. The cashier also made a joke that I just got "extra protein" in my meal rather than being sympathetic and apologetic. We both left our meals mostly uneaten because we lost our appetites after seeing this fairly large black bug.

The service here is really friendly and very nice. I could tell there were a lot of regulars who knew the servers because ours spoke to a couple about their usual server and their usual meal (if that makes sense). I went here with another person, and we shared a sandwich (chicken shwarma). While it didn't seem like shwarma I'm used to, it was tasty. It was hot and the bread was cripsy. Based on the limited sampling of the food I would have given a three, but because of the service, and the obvious repeat customers, I can only assume this is a great place to go to and return to with your family and friends.

Red Olive Family Restaurant sits at the Northeast corner of 14 Mile Rd. and Crooks Rd. I was greeted by a friendly enough staff. When it came to my server, it was service with a smile. It's a nice new structure. The place--like the food--is unpretentious. I would give it a 2.5-Star rating if I could. I don't think it deserves a "Meh. I've experienced better," even though that is the truth. The "Meh" part seems a bit harsh for this place. 3 Stars is probably just giving it too much credit, however. I'm not sure exactly what there is about Red Olive to recommend it above any one of the innumerable restaurants of this kind except proximity. It's a decent neighborhood place. The food I had was hearty, and it was decently priced. That seems to be a particularly important combination for the times. I had the Saganaki complete with the whole "Opa!" conflagration. I ordered a so-called Greek Combination, which came with a bowl of soup (I chose Beef Barley.), pastitsio, moussaka, gyro slices with rice pilaf and beans. On the side were some pita slices, tzatziki, and a basket of bread and crackers. How did it all taste? The Saganaki was fine. It was appropriately seasoned. I think my waitress may have overdone the lemon, but it was still fine. The pastitsio and moussaka weren't particularly flavorful, but they were satisfying nonetheless. The gyro slices were fine. Nothing was earth-shattering about this meal except the immense portion size. This is the kind of meal that one should eat at every meal if one aspires to be morbidly obese. I'm guessing that I'm supposed to share these big portions with the rest of my family. I didn't even finish 40% of my entree. If this is the kind of portion that America expects, health care costs are really going to skyrocket. The place certainly represents a good value if one's definition of a good value includes enormous portions. It's a decent enough place if one's hungry for a quick, hearty bite. They'll certainly fill your belly.

Was extremely disappointed. There was a total of 5 people in the restaurant and still received cold breakfast food. Waitress disappeared and did not want to come to table to see if everything was okay. Will not be back .

I have only been there for breakfast and it is great! You get a lot of food your money and the service is good and quick. It is simple food, but done right. There is never much of a wait, if any at all. The hash browns are always crisp, which I love. Overall, a good solid, can't miss breakfast.

I actually told a few people to check this place out and I have a carry out menu chilling in my drawer at work. The place is a nice "lunch and carryout" place. I have never had breakfast or dinner here because it's far from home. So from a lunch spot stand point, it hits all important points....quick to bring the food out, lots to choose from on the menu-tons of wraps, salads, gyros, pitas, burgers, coneys, deli sandwiches..etc etc. Perfect place to make a group carry out order because there is lots to choose from. I dined in and the waitress was nice, efficient and allowed me to basically make my own wrap. The food tasted great, I really enjoyed my lunch...and the large amount of Avocado on my wrap. The waitress even refilled my tea and put it in a to-go container for me when I was about to leave. Little things like that keep the tip high and me coming back.

People should remember when writing reviews for this restaurant - it is a family restaurant with a Greek flair. Service was friendly, accommodating and good. I had the Greek salad and a chicken gyros. The chicken was tender and had a very nice flavour. Portions were generous and prices were very reasonable. The salad greens were fresh, lots of chichi, and other fixins. Good bread and butter and a nice Greek dressing - it is what it is and does a descent job of doing it.

Food is medicore (shish kabob was tough and tasted bad) turkey rueben sandwich was fair. Canned corn appeared gray and inedible. Service was awful. Cash register person (Owner? Manager?) asked us about the meal and service. We politely expressed our disappointment. He became quite defensive. All in all, I'd not give any stars if it was an option.

We loved our first dinner at the Red Olive in Clawson. We had salads.....a Greek Salad and a Cobb salad. They both earned five stars....they were fresh, tasty, and large enough for two people. We took them home and ate the leftovers the next day and they were still very crunch so the ingredients must have been very fresh because salad leftovers are usually soggy the next day....not these two salads. They were great. The menu is very ambitious and we are eager to return to Red Olive for another meal. They have good choices in every category. Thank you for the good food, reasonable prices, and friendly, helpful staff members. We'll be back soon!

Great, fresh food that is priced right. Several steps up from a Coney Island food wise. Service has always been good.

This place was surprisingly good. We went there lay Saturday night. I was mad at first that we couldn't go somewhere fancy as I was with my extended family including a few small kids, but this place turned out to be great. They accommodated our party of 10 with no problem and had something for everyone. I would definitely recommend it for a reasonably priced dinner or lunch. The Asian salad and gyros were really good. Our waitress was really nice as well.

Lots of seating, reasonable prices, awesome Greek salads loaded with gyro meat. What more could you ask for?

Food is ok, but don't come here if you have kids. Want to sub fries for applesauce? Sure, but it will cost you! Want a drink with your kids meal? That will be extra! Need an extra pita with your saganaki? That will be 50 cents. Server was nice enough, but management could care less about customer service. Shame!

Just a good diner. Ordered an omelet after reading the yelp reviews. The garden patch omelet was good and definitely large. My friend ordered from the Greek offerings and I was surprised by the quality. I will do that the next time. The spinach pie and the chicken breasts were quite good.

I was very confused by this restaurant. It said it was a Greek / Middle Eastern establishment, and that's partially true. But, the menu reads like an encyclopedia. It's huge and covers everything from Greek, to American to Asian to everything in between. It's like a world tour at Epcot in one restaurant. The food wasn't bad, but it wasn't good enough to make me want to return. I felt that for anything on their menu, I could go somewhere else that specialized in that type of food and get a better meal.

They have a nice diverse menu with everything from breakfast to middle eastern to greek. The place was very nicely decorated and clean. Being we were one of two tables eating the service could have been better. I ordered breakfast which was nicely portioned but my omelet tasted burnt. Not a bad spot if you like variety.

This place got a lot better recently! I think it has something to do with the service. Better than coney. The end.

I am a little obsessed with Red Olive. Hands down the best omelette I've had in my life (every time.) I live in Ferndale too - (tons of hot brunch spots) - yet most weekends we drive to Clawson for breakfast here. I get an omelette with chicken breast, avocado, spinach, onions, and swiss ... it's the best. I love that they have fresh avocado and spinach ... not a lot of "Coney" style restaurants have avocado.. my favorite food. I always take home half of it - portions are huge, it's just as tasty for dinner! The service is friendly, attentive, and fast. Prices are decent. It's always clean. Usually my boyfriend and I are the youngest people in there by at least 15 years.

The breakfast and lunch specials are great. Wonderful place to go for breakfast. Service is attentive and trained. If you go : they don't heat the restaurant very well. And they do not heat the restrooms at all. the restroom is positively Arctic I was told that the restroom heating element is on the same as the kitchen so the heat is turned off for the restroom.

OK food way overpriced. Don't go after 7 because the food is cold and definitely not fresh. Breakfast food is good, and luckily it's served all day. But like someone once said, it's tough to screw up breakfast.

Nothing special, just a quick and fairly cheap local diner type place. Food is ok, but expectations are never super high...you pretty much get what you pay for, although the breakfast is pretty good. Main complaint - can't understand the man on the phone when you call in a carry out order! Had to ask him to repeat himself 4 times. I usually just guess and go up there 10 mins after I call because I can't understand what he says. Not good but not that bad either.

Above average restaurant. The food (I had breakfast; eggs, sausage, toast, hash browns, etc.) was very good and served in a timely manner. The prices are reasonable as well. The decor of the place is very tasteful and fresh. The staff is nice and attentive (I didn't have to ask for coffee or water refills). If you're looking for a good, solid breakfast, this is the place to go, unless you have a taste for something a little more gourmet. But speaking of gourmet, I noticed they serve Mediterranean cheese cake! It looks fantastic! I haven't seen anyone else with this item, so I'll have to go back for dinner!

This is one of the worst establishments I've dined at in my 33 years on earth. I ordered a Turkey Ruben figuring that I was playing it safe. It's hard to mess up a turkey Ruben. Right? Well they did. A traditional corned beef Ruben is a stack of sliced deli corned beef. If it isn't an excellent cut, it can be chewy. This is why I figured a turkey Ruben would be safe. Turkey Rubens are, in my experience, always served with thinly sliced turkey breast deli meat on rye with sauerkraut and thousand island dressing. What I was served was a sandwich with a grey, flavorless, dry chunk of turkey breast. Not thinly sliced deli meat, but a chunk of turkey. It was terrible. I NEVER complain, but when I mentioned that I'd never seen a turkey Ruben served this way and that it wasn't what I expected, I received notable attitude from the server. I was offered no solution and just wanted to pay and leave. When paying at the register, an extremely rude man brought up my complaint and told me that I was wrong about the sandwich being bad and that it was a very nice and generous meal. I explained my many experiences with turkey Rubens containing thinly sliced or shaved deli turkey, not a hunk of dry turkey breast and he said there's was better. He was rude, and clearly wanted me to know that the customer isn't always right. He brought it up, then told me my opinion was wrong. Well sir, that's fine. Now that I know, I'll never return. Absolutely disgusted with the food as well as the staff and service, and downright appalled at how I was treated by the man taking my money for that garbage on a plate.

Nothing about this place is good. It's ugly and sterile inside. All the staff either look like they do not belong there or they are on morphine. This place is a real downer. The food is terrible, the menu is too large and yet seems to have nothing on it. Most of the food is so bland, it's like hospital food. The prices are insane for what they serve and the "managers" are something else... not in a good way. This place is terrible and I would not be surprised if it was more of a tax shelter than an actual profitable business. And that's all I have to say about that.

When visiting my sister from Florida, she took us here. I ordered the Kobe Beef sliders. They were extremely dry. I only ate one and took the rest for a treat for her dogs. My husband's wrap was also extremely dry and he had to choke it down. My sister said that she always got lemon on the side to put on her sandwich which helped the dryness. Good thing she had a coupon for a free meal. YUK!

Red Olive Family Restaurant is walking distance from my new place, so of course I had to try it. On my first visit I was excited to see they had meatloaf on their menu, which is one of my favorite foods. I wasn't overly impressed but it was pretty good. The boyfriend had the cheese quesadillas and the vegetarian grape leaves. He was happy with his choices. The waitresses are always friendly and remember the regulars. You never have to ask for a refill and we've been back quite a few times since then. My favorites are the nacho appetizer and the chicken strip salad. This is definitely the place to go if you can't decide what you want. They have Greek, Mexican, Italian, American, etc. So far nothing has been unforgettable but I haven't been disappointed by anything either. This will continue to be the place I go to when I can't decide what sounds good or when my boyfriend and I can't agree on something.
