Let's face it, if a Mexican restaurant doesn't have good salsa, they're going to have mediocre food. Salsa was terrible. The margaritas were watered down and the tacos came with nothing on them.

Good food and good portions. I have never seen a 59 cent admin fee for credit card processing. Someone help them find another credit processing company... This is not a gas station...

I ordered the burrito California and wifey ordered the chicken fajita burritos. Both were excellent. The salsa has a fresh taste due to the cilantro, yummy! Wifey ordered a side of enchilada sauce with her burritos and it has a fantastic taste, with hints of nutmeg and cinnamon. Definitely worth a try, we will be back. The only thing I would change is that I would ask that they skip the cheese sauce on the burrito California. It tastes good but i think it masks the taste of the other ingredients.

Well....unfortunately I am writing a bad review. First off we sat at the bar and had a drink while we waited and order carry out. Two of the waitstaff were sitting four or five seats away and were speaking so loud to the point that we thought it was rude. I particularly love the Spanish language and think it is very beautiful, but these guys were obnoxious. Okay, now the food. We ordered a steak quesadilla, a chalupa, two tacos, rice and a tostada. There was literally no flavor to the meat and the steak quesadilla was OKAY at best. We took a couple bites of the Chalupa and were so disappointed that we didn't even eat it. Taco Bell does a better job and I don't even eat fast food.

Being regulars of El Patron, we thought we would try Mi Zarape. I ordered the Alhombre platter and substituted jalapeños for green peppers. I love spicy but this may have taken it over the edge! I recommend just adding jalapeños to the dish. Flavor was excellent. I also ordered chicken and beef hard tacos. They were excellent. The meat on both was extremely juicy and well flavored. My wife and son ordered both the shredded chicken and shredded beef enchilada verde. Again, both were flavorful and juicy. I especially liked the beef. Service was good and the food was fresh. My wife loved the salsa. It was obviously very, very fresh I have been searching for an excellence Carne asada as it is my favorite dish when I visit Mexico. I have not been able to find an authentic carne asada in this area but I'm hoping they can meet that challenge. If nothing else I will be sure to go back for the tacos and salsa. I waffle between 3.5 and 4.0 stars. It's always tough to give a Mexican restaurant five ,or even four stars, when relative to true fine dining. However, if you love Mexican food, give them a try.

Service: we have been repeat customers, never had a problem with service. Very friendly, prompt Cleanliness: extremely well kept in the inside. We even observed them cleaning menus once Food: the margaritas, while not my #1 all time fav, are extremely tasty and strong! Don't let the ecto green coloring turn you off, it's super good. The food is also authentic tasting, very appreciated. The queso fundido is amazing.

At first I thought it was just depressing and mediocre... and then my son got food poisoning.

Really bland and not a lot of flavor. I stopped in for a late dinner and a combo plate of a chalupa and enchilada. The "chalupa" turned out to be a tostada with beans, lettuce, guacamole and a slice of tomato. One slice of tomato. The guacamole was half brown and liquidy -- how does that happen?! The enchilada had very little flavor with the corn tortilla having a bizarre texture and the cheese being some bizarre cross between cream cheese and actual cheese. I was so put off I left it after two bites. The only thing edible was the chips and salsa, but even then the salsa was so mild. The refried beans were just as bland. I took a few bites of everything, then just are the chips and salsa. No one seemed to care that I pretty much didn't eat my food and took it away. All the patrons here were "white." I'm sorry to say, but I still think it's a good measure when I see some people of the ethnicity eating at my ethnic places. There's no such thing happening here because all the good was bland and had no flavor! There are better Mexican places in the area. Avoid.

The BEST Mexican food. We grab a bite here when leaving work in Brighton. Never disappoints. Try the steak quesadilla and a margarita. You'll leave full and happy!!

The service has improved greatly since our first visit. The Burrito California is to die for. They are always fast, food is delivered in less than 15 minutes and has been flavorful and well prepared the last handful of times we went.

Had California steak burrito which was their special for ($10). It tasted good with enough meat in it. I was a bit annoyed at the 59 cent "admin fee" that their credit card company was charging.

The margaritas taste like premade, bottled from the store. The beans, rice and guacamole taste horrible. I wouldn't go back.

I have been looking for a mexican restaurant like this ever since I moved back from Georgia. The best mexican in the area and the best I've had in michigan today.

Loved the salsa, rice, even liked the fake-smoked beans but that red sauce over every burrito, enchilada, chile relleno was just too much. maybe they were trying to replicate a mole but the flavor that overpowers everything else is cinnamon. It detracted from all the natural flavors of the fillings. Hubby said the meat in his taco was so "wet" it soaked into the soft tortilla and made it mushy and fall apart. service was good but that sauce spoiled the experience of the rest of the meal. will not return.

Good salsa, chips, chicken fajitas were great! Great menu selection, the inside is bright and clean. Will come back again.

Have been going here since they opened in Brighton. Chicken fajitas are the best I've ever had. Portions are larger than most.

Food was less than good I had stuffed jalapeños and they were pieces of jalapeño in cream cheese that appeared to be fried multiple times. The taco was flavorless the meat had no seasoning. And the wings tasted like something from the freezer section at A grocery store. I sat at the bar and the hostess was also the bartender waitress server she was polite but that was it! No interaction all business! The food came super fast almost microwave fast. I don't think I'll be back.

Service was pretty sub-par. Took forever to get drinks, we were ignored most of the night. My mom asked what the specials were and we were told there were none. We saw the board that said "Specials" on the way out the door. Hmmm, interesting. They never refilled our sodas or coffee unless we asked three times. Food was kind of bland and not very exciting. They never gave us sour cream or salsa for our food. Had to ask several times for more chips and salsa. Likely will not return, sorry.

I think this is the best Mexican food outside if Mexican village in Detroit. This is more like real Mexican, and less like most American-Ized mexi restaurants. Why do I like? Great original flavors, large portions, fast service. I like steak or chicken dishes. Egg dishes with chorizo is great. Soups are authentic. Can't miss.

This place is good for cheap dining. Service is okay. I ordered queso fundido thinking it was the cheese dip I had ordered once before but I had gotten it confused. When it was brought out and had pork in it, I explained my mistake to the waiter. He seemed like he was annoyed with me. I asked for the other dip without pork. When he went to the kitchen, I could see the cooks all laughing about it and when he brought the "new" dip out, I was fairly certain they had just scooped the pork out and gave me the same dip. I couldn't eat it. I felt like they didn't value "the customer is always right," rule and that would deter me from eating there again.

Yet another delicious meal. Great environment and attentive wait staff. The food was amazing as always! Can't wait to go back!

Best Mexican we have had in the Novi and Brighton area. Salsa is great. Kids loved the cheese quesadilla and grilled chicken. Chicken fajitas were yummy and while the steak and pork tacos were also good, the chorizo taco was awesome. Will definitely be back.

Ate here the other night with my family and it was great! They start you with complimentary chips and salsa, the salsa being very fresh and flavorful. My parents ordered the shrimp and chicken fajitas and they could not stop talking about how good they were! I ordered the combination plate with the enchilada and burrito. My choice of meat was the shredded beef and it was the best I've ever had. It was very juicy, tender, and flavorful. Their red sauce is a little bit sweeter than other Mexican restaurants, but delicious none the less. The service was great, very polite and quick to refill drinks. It was a very pleasant experience! I will definitely be back :)

It is so frustrating to go to a restaurant and get unacceptable service...it is from the shortest guy there with dark hair usually. He does not smile, he will not refill chips without making too big of a deal about it and it is a BIG deal to get to-go containers. My friend and I love the chips and salsa, so we keep going back, but I truly would rather have better service and ok food. Now we make a joke of it, but I would not recommend this place to ANYONE! :(

This is the best Mexican restaurant in Brighton. I've been here multiple times and have yet to be disappointed. You start with complimentary chips and salsa that are very good. And there is a large selection to choose from the menu. The enchiladas and burritos are good. But I think the tacos are the best. Every time I go in there hasn't been any wait to be seated and the service is decent. I would definitely recommend this place.

This Mi Zarape location just opened (not exactly sure when) but it's so new it doesn't even have it's liquor license yet (but coming soon). I went for dinner with the fam and we all loved our dishes...even my FIL who is not a big ethnic food eater! I have been craving Mexican and looking on yelp nothing in Brighton really has good reviews so I'm hoping Mi Zarape stays open and does well so it can be our local Mexican joint! We got to start with complimentary chips and salsa that we dug into like crazy since we were so hungry. The salsa wasn't hot at all so everyone enjoyed it. My husband and FIL got enchiladas that were super delicious. Full of really savory, tender meat. I got a combo platter with a burrito and a taco, both with chicken. Both were also very good and came with rice and beans. My MIL got a chicken burrito and while I didn't try it at the restaurant I had some bites of her leftovers and it was delicious! Not too much cumin which is not my favorite spice. The enchiladas came out with "guacamole salad" on the side which was just a serving of guac and a serving of sour cream over a little bed of shredded lettuse. The guac was REALLY good. Next time I'll definitley want to start with some chips and guac! The menu was huge, a whole book practically, I look forward to eating my way through it!

Ordered carryout lunch. Orders were really messed up. We called to see what happened and they had no idea. They really did not seem to care about correcting our carryout order. The food that we did get tasted pretty good, although small portions. In the future I will go to Border Cantina. I can overlook a mistake, but attitude represents a friendly caring environment.

OMG !! I died & went to the BEST Mexican restaurant that has the BEST Margarita w/Gran Marnier in it. You can actually taste the alcohol in this drink. Fantastic. They just received their liquor license the end of December so we waited until this time. What's a Mexican dinner w/out a Margarita? Our server Miguel, was attentive & extremely personable which is a blessing. Usually, we find that those who work at either Mexican or Chinese restaurants are typically stand-offish. Not Miguel. He made our visit & dinner even more enjoyable. We started with the usual complimentary salsa & chips. Salsa was excellent. We then ordered some guacamole which was excellent. Tasty & fresh like it should be. For our main course, Charlie & I both ordered the crab burritos with rice, beans & a creamy, subtle cheese sauce over the burritos. I kidded Miquel that I should have asked if it was real crab or the imitation kind. He told me to slice a piece to find out.Well, it was real & it was ALL crab. Nothing was used to fill it such as lettuce, tomatoes, onions, etc. Many years ago, I had a great dinner at the Mexican Fiesta which was on Ford Rd., just West of Telegraph. It was scrambled eggs & cactus. Mentioned this to Miguel & he promised me that he will get the cactus but needed to know when we would be back. We plan on going back on the 25th of January to listen to the Mariachi band & try their tacos, fajitas & other foods they serve + the cactus that was promised. It's going to be a long 2 weeks !!!

Eeehhhh it's ok 3 star worth not bad not good. Brighton needs a great Mexican or TexMex since Border Cantina fell apart. I was really hoping this was going to be the answer.

Good Mexican is hard to come by and even with this app, trusting reviews has wronged me. This place had great salsa, guacamole, and steak burrito. The only thing I think they can approve on is their tortilla chips. I would definitely go back and recommend this to my Mexican family members.

What a great experience. The salsa was so fresh and delicious that I ate 2 cups of it by myself with a spoon. The chips were fresh and crispy . I had the chicken fajitas and wow, wow, wow they were fantastic . If you want a great meal Mi Zarape is the place to go. The service was fast, pleasant and efficient too.

Worst service ever. We waited 20 minutes to even get acknowledged at the door. Then we asked the cashier and she told us it wasn't her job. The food was overpriced and horrible. Then when we asked for our bill it took them 20 minutes for that. I really wanted an enjoyable Mexican food experience and this was the worst I had ever had. Will not be returning.

Tried for the first time and would not go back. The service was ok, but the food was very bland and not very authentic. The taco shell seemed like a taco bell shell, not homemade. We ordered drinks and a different waitress had to come back to ask us again what we ordered. I think the first girl was new, which was fine.

All our food was excellent! We had a taco salad , chicken fajita burrito and chicken burrito ruleta. I would highly recommend this restaurant. The salsa was very fresh and the chips warm. Food was served quickly. Waiter wasn't very personable but do his job.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
