So when I first came here in college I loved the margaritas and felt the food was just cheaply made food all thrown together. Then I left Maine. I went to New Mexico are their food and he food in areas where it was real and authentic. Not fried cheese and sauce covered foods. I love this, it's real, it's yummy and what you can't get at a chain. And did I mention I love the margaritas?!

The service is worth five stars, the margarita four and the tacos a solid three. I wish I could rate them separately. For a buck each we chose to get a total of eight tacos, a total of $8, (margaritas were $10 each). It was a quick, easy snack. I can't really say anything regarding the rest of the menu as we merely took advantage of a cheap deal at the last minute. We were not expecting premier cuisine for the price. It was edible and fulfilled a need. The margaritas however were delicious, although I have to remember to drink more slowly to avoid the inevitable brain freeze that comes with quaffing a frozen beverage too quickly. Whoops. We showed up a half hour before they closed and the waitress was still friendly, efficient and just the right amount of attentive.

The food is decent- the cheese sauce is a shinning star for sure. They have great mid week specials. The seating is great for smaller groups and I have never head to wait for a seat with exception of cinco de mayo.

Monday night .99 taco night. Plenty of chips and salsa to be had for all. Good wait staff and attentive. Food was ok. Price was good.

I'm a regular and have no complaints. The wait staff is always very polite, prompt and generous. The meals are always served promptly as well. The food is great and affordable, but the menu has been the same for quite a while now and could use a little changing up. I'd give the restaurant 5 stars if the TVs were not so small and the issue with the menu.

Ok so this place is best after you've been drinking. The $0.99 chicken tacos are worth it on Mondays. At least I hope it's chicken.

I used to like this place but it really has a boring menu. Last few times the service has not been up to par. Much rather go to a more authentic Mexican restaurant with better quality food. So when it comes to Fajita Grill, my advice keep looking.

I remembered when this place opened when I lived in Maine....the first thing that came to my mind was...'Wow! Mexicans in Maine! I'm not the only one!' The food is ok for the local gringos that can't stand spicy food! I did make a request for Albondigas....don't know if they even added that to the menu. This is a better alternative to South Of The Boarder...in fact, the food is better.

I really hate leaving bad reviews, but I think this place could be improved so easily... maybe the owners will take note. I have eaten a lot of Mexican food everywhere between Oklahoma and Maine and both coasts, and this is pretty far down the list. You can see all the reviews for yourself- lots of people like this place! but I didn't get to find out why. The good: It's pretty authentic, and I did feel very comfortable here. It's big, pretty clean, probably a good place to come with a crowd. Nice enough service, though I wouldn't go over the top complimenting them. My problems are all with the chef, and maybe whoever buys their groceries. The bad: I went out to eat, and ... I was not impressed. I had the 3 fish taco dinner, and my other half had a cheese enchilada and spinach quesadilla. I really, really wanted to love all of it (we order exactly this meal nearly every single time we go out for Mexican....), but the only things I enjoyed at all were the beans and rice, and the salsa. But the rest of our food wasn't cheap, and we could barely eat it. My tacos fell apart, and were not so great on any front, and the fried fish in them was AWFUL. Dry, flavorless, meager portions. Like plastic, worse than fast food chains. The tortillas themselves were so-so, which flabbergasted me, because... you can buy those at the grocery store better! The tortilla chips that came with our salsa were stone cold and greasy, which kind of ruined that experience. Portions of that were generous. The cheese enchilada had nothing but cheese and came across as just a tortilla that had been microwaved with a ton of cheese in it, and some small amount of red sauce and more cheese on top. The spinach enchilada was probably the best, but I've had many better there as well. We at least didn't feel gross (healthwise) eating it.

From what I can tell about this place is the inconsistency surrounding it. We went there twice in a week. First time good, second no good. The service is under attentive. The second time was so bad no one barely ate anything. Mostly for the ground beef was overly spicy. And by spicy I mean no flavor at all, just heat. I enjoy hot dishes and this was not enjoyable. Shredded beef was good, refried beans good. They have just dropped the ball I guess.

This is the biggest joke for a Mexican restaurant I have come across. I met two friends here on a Tuesday night. Place was practically empty and it was about 45 min from closing time. We ordered a round of chips and I asked for cheese. I would have expected a nacho cheese or something similar. Instead, I get the white processed cheese like you would see individually wrapped in a grocery store. I ordered a chicken quesadilla, they bring out a soft taco with another tub of the processed cheese. I requested shredded cheese. They bring out another white cheese and don't bother to tell me it is $4 each time. My wife had a fajita which was ok, but by the time we were done, we paid $12 for cheese and almost $40 total. Outrageously overpriced! Certainly never returning when I come back to Maine in the fall.

After going to the Fajita Grill twice lately, I'm very sad to say I won't be going there any more. This used to be one of my family's favorite places to go get a really decent, well priced meal. Not anymore. Ever since they had to over haul the staff, Fajita Grill is not worth eating at any more. The chips on the tables are now stale and greasy and the salsa less than fresh. The wait staff is terrible! We've gone without drinks, silverware, and on two occations, whole dinners because they just couldn't get it to the table. The food is wretched now too. We used to be madly in love with the Burritos Roquetta, as are most patron. The last time we ordered it, it was a completely different dish - not worth eating at all. Last time, I ordered a shrimp cocktail because I figured that was pretty safe - no way! The sauce the shrimp were in tasted like orange juice, sweet and totally gross. I don't know how much longer this place will hold on at this rate. They've definetely lost me and my family as customers.

Hands down the worst eating establishment I've ever been to. Best part were the chips that came before the meal. At least they didn't make me feel sick. A friend of mine and I should've known the food was going to be awful just judging by the decor of the place. Dark, trying to appear like a festive patio with banners advertising cheap beer. Maybe I should've had a beer or two just to distract me from how bad the food was. The dishes we ordered were different, yet looked exactly the same and had the same consistencies and colors. By colors I mean, pale yellow and white. Topped with heavy microwaved cheese, my stomach was unhappy for the rest of the day. Will not go back.

This is the best Mexican (Tex-Mex) restaurant that I have found in the Portland area! If you are familiar with what Mexican restaurants are in the Southeast then you'll love this place. The owner used to have a restaurant in Georgia so the menu is pretty much exactly like a Mexican restaurant down there would be. I think the pricing is very fair for the area, especially if you use the daily specials ($5 combos on Sundays!). I've been going about once a week and will probably continue to do so. Highly recommended.

This place is great! The service is fast, the food is heavy but tasty. The tortilla chips are bottomless and the salsa is fresh. The food is as close to authentic as you can find in Maine. The legal issues are complicated and I believe the owners are still trying to clear themselves.

This review is published at my blog; downeastkitchen.wordpres… Fajita Grill Main St. Westbrook,Maine 04092 Phone: 207-591-8150 Fax: 207-591-6698 I think one of the best ways to understand a restaurant is to observe the wait staff. Wait staff can provide diners with subtle (or not so subtle) clues about how well the restaurant is run, whether they take pride in the food they are serving, and whether they are happy to be employed and doing the job they do. If your waiter is inattentive, sloppy, and blasé, chances are the food is going to have the same problem. The first time I ate at the Fajita Grill, I knew it was going to be a good meal, because of the wait staff. In fact, they are like poblanos in mole; the dining experience just wouldn't be the same without them. They are attentive, festive, and generally happy to serve you. And the food is usually just as good. On the front of the menu beneath their name, it says "just great food" and for the most part this statement is true. However, I have found that the quality of the food depends largely upon the time of day you visit and the staff working in the kitchen. Dinnertime service tends to be more enticing than the lunchtime fare. Also I do not recommend ordering take-out from this restaurant and the few times I tried this, the food was lifeless and cold. Do not let this sway you from eating in though, because when it's good, its really good! Menu pricing is very affordable with most meals ranging in price from $5.50 (lunch specials) up to $13.75 for shrimp fajitas. There is a $3.99 children's menu, which offers both Mexican and non-Mexican options. Portions are large and we almost always end up bringing leftovers home. And the food comes fast, usually within 15 minutes of ordering. Our menu favorites include the Mexican cheesesteak, Camarones Fajita Grill, and the chicken wings. Today I ordered the carnitas meal from the low-carb menu and also a side-order of refried beans. My lunch arrived steaming hot and the carnitas were wonderful, but not as flavorful as I had hoped. The menu said the carnitas had been seasoned in a special sauce made of Coke, tequila, beer, oranges, and garlic. Honestly I didn't taste any of those flavors in the pork but it didn't matter. The pork was perfectly cooked and arguably the best carnitas I've had in a long time. I would order this again in a heartbeat. I usually love the refried beans and they serve some of the best I've tasted. However, today the beans were chunky, not very flavorful and slightly cold. Apparently the guy who usually makes the beans had the day off. The atmosphere of the Fajita Grill is usually bustling, with the background noise of sporting events being broadcast over the multiple televisions and upbeat Mexican music playing over the speakers. Dining rooms seating is comfortable. There is also bar seating available. All-in-all the Fajita Grill is a very good value for your money and is a great place for happy hour or a family night. It's not entirely authentic Mexican food, but its close. I rate the dine-in experience 4/5 stars, but if you hit it right it has the potential to be 5/5 stars. Sadly, take-out is 2/5 stars, but maybe it's just the nature of good Mexican food. It's meant to be hot and sizzling, on a plate.

Sunday specials are combo plates for $5.99 with $2.75 bottles of corona! Chile poblanos with a little potato were different but good. Great service. Margarita up was potent and not too sweet. Music and slightly tacky decor made for an authentic experience. Price/value was tremendous. Will return.

If you want THE MOST authentic Mexican restaurant experience in the state of Maine - you'll want to go here. Being one of the furthest states away from the country of Mexico, you wouldn't think that such genuine food, service, and atmosphere would be possible here - but the folks at Fajita Grill pull it off in leaps and bounds. The staff is one of the friendliest crews of any restaurant I've ever been to. I've worked here multiple times as a Dos Equis and Hornitos girl, and we ALWAYS love coming here (we feel welcomed, something we don't feel at a lot of other places). The atmosphere is fresh, fun, and light. The margaritas are big enough to take a swim in (and they'll knock you down pretty fast, too). And the food is plentiful, priced-right, and relatively spot-on as far as factual Mexican cuisine goes. If you're looking for a lively and/or amusing night out, with decent food that won't break the bank - please support Faiita Grill!

This is Mexico, only it's in Westbrook....impossible? Who would have thought this defunct mill town would end up with such a great, friendly, cheap, Mexican restaurant! And actual Mexicans are running the show! The drinks are amazing, just try to have 3 margaritas! Ouchy in the morning, they sing happy birthday in Spanish, and you get a shot! They are always there with a smile, more chips or another drink! I think about it all the way up from Boston, it's the highlight of my trip! Shrimp Fahittas are the best.....

This is really like a 3.5....this place is standard mexican fare as seen in America. Although living in Atlanta I might be a bit spoiled to great mexican so this placed seem just "ok". There was nothing wrong, it just wasnt amazing, however for the area it might be. Their mole sauce was kind of basic, but good enough.

I've been here like 4 times... OK. I lived in Atlanta for a year and half, and I've been to San Diego, Miami and Key West. If I give anything more than 3 stars to this place, it would be insulting all the perfect places I've been to in those cities.... But given that I live in Maine now... Maybe I should just settle for this. It's not bad. They serve decent amount of food, and their fajitas taste somewhat authentic. Comparing to other Mexican places I've been to, the food there is not spicy&flavorful enough. And their Margaritas are HUGE and really really strong.... It's a plus to them but don't drink it if you have to drive after eating!!!!

My husband and I were in Portland over the Memorial weekend holiday and this was the first place we tried. It was sort of a fluke that we were over in Westbrook but since we couldn't check into our hotel until later, we were driving around a bit aimlessly trying to find some lunch. I am a big fan of Mexican food (regardless of whether or not it is labeled authentic) and when we stopped at a little park in Westbrook I brought out my Yelp app and found two choices; Fajita Grill or The French Press. Despite being lured by the idea of fresh homemade donuts, we found ourselves drawn to Fajita Grill since they claimed to have Dos Equis on tap. Despite many places advertising Dos Equis, few places actually have it on tap and Fajita Grill did not disappoint with the Dos Equis Amber in a large frosted mug with a generous slice of lime. That alone would have made this place a three-star place but the food was phenomenal. It was great, hearty, stick to your ribs Mexican food. The complimentary chips and salsa were great. The chips were hot and I think freshly made. The salsa was of a perfect consistency...lots of juice with pureed tomatoes and lots of onion, garlic and cilantro. This set the meal off very well. We ordered some queso dip that while nice and simple in terms of flavor was much more runny than I would normally expect. It was the one somewhat low point in the meal as it tasted like it might have been watered down. I had a lunch special with a stuffed poblano pepper, taco, beans and guacamole salad. The pepper was stuffed with cheese and had plenty of cheese on the top but was also topped with a delicious green salsa. The taco was good, the meat somewhat underwhelming in terms of spice but I often think that with Mexican meat at places like this. The guacamole salad was guacamole set on top of iceberg lettuce which was exactly what I expected. The guacamole was decent and a great accompaniment to both the taco and the poblano pepper. My husband had a tostaguac which was delicious and a burrito as part of a combination. The burrito had a slightly spicy red sauce on top although there was not enough of it. The beans that came with both of our dishes were very good...subtle flavor and nicely pureed with a few chunks of pinto beans. I have been complaining about how many people complain about there not being good Mexican in NYC when they clearly haven't been beyond their little neighborhood in Manhattan. It was great to find this "salt of the earth" Mexican in a little town in Maine. It wasn't spectacular, blow your mind, Mexican haute cuisine but it was great, particularly with a large mug of Dos Equis.

I got the burritos roqueta (pork burritos with cheese sauce) and a tall Dos Equis Amber and it was so delicious! Perfect amount of food and super tasty! Highly recommended!

Good food and quick service. I heard about the legal issues revolving around them and some illegal immigration / bad working conditions. Having been told its been settled, and of course the extreme craving for a burrito close by, I gave it a shot. The food was quick and inexpensive. Service was great. Not sure how I feel about the 5 gallon bucket of pre-made margaritas though; it's just not he same as a freshly made one. I'd recommend the place for anyone looking for a good, quick Mexican place in the Westbrook area.

Hands down, best Mexican food in Maine. Used to be the only place to get authentic Mexican food was at my house, but now my wife and my mom don't bother cooking! This is as close to having Mexican food from Mexico or my hometown of El Paso as you can get. Just head to Fajita Grill. Hola, hola, hola!

Fajita Grill has been enormously successful since it opened. It's staight-forward, no BS, quality food with lightning fast, friendly service and a fun energetic atmosphere. The salsa is great, as are the tortillas and chips. There are tons of weekly specials, of which Tuesday's 30-cent wings and $1 drafts is by far the most popular. The staff consists entirely of mostly Mexicans and Guatemalans who are incredibly friendly and quality servers, even when they're at their busiest. This place is probably at this point 99% repeat customers who know the staff well.

Some of the best and most authentic Mexican food in Portland! The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is great. Lots of options on the menu and great deals every night of the week.

Fajita Grill is exactly what I think when I think "Tex Mex." It's cheap, quick, tasty and the service is friendly. The fajitas are their best dish, as far as I am concerned. Be areful with the margaritas, they're a LOT stronger than those at other places in town.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
