Now living in Aroostook County, when I go down to the Bangor area, I plan to eat at restaurants where I can have food that I can't get in the County. Mexican food is one of those things. My two friends and I went to Margaritas (we've heard good things) for dinner the other night. Service was good, no problem there. However, I wish I could say the same for the food and drinks. I'm originally from Connecticut, where you can get excellent Mexican food, just about anywhere, and when you order something at one restaurant, its pretty similar at another. Margaritas is not like that. My fiancee ordered a beef taco, which the meat was just ground beef, and said he could have had better if we made it from a packet at home. My other friend ordered a burrito. I ordered an enchilada with chicken, the queso sauce on top (whatever you call it) and a side of refried beans, Mexican rice, and a side of the queso dip. The chicken in my enchilada was whole, not shredded as every other enchilada I've had. My refried beans had huge chunks of beans, the rice was sub par. I have no idea what that dried up white stuff was on top of my enchilada, but not what I expected. And the "queso" dip, was not a queso blanco, runny dip as most have...it was a chunky, rich dip that cost extra, and was certainly not worth ordering. Last, my fiance paid $6 for a glass of Sams Seasonal...my "margarita" was $8 (small), and frozen. It tasted like the kind you make out of the bucket at the grocery store. I couldn't even taste the alcohol in it, so I had to order an extra shot to add myself, and even then it wasn't good. You'd think those would be amazing for the fact they named the restaurant Margaritas! We should have gone to another Mexican establishment in the area, for bigger tastier margaritas, and real Mexican food. You all can read yelp reviews and see which those are. Only reason I gave two stars was because my waitress was great.

This is perhaps the worst Mexican food I've ever had. Never try their fish taco; it is very dry and inedible. One of their lager beers from the tap that I had tasted like soap. Their enchilada is not a whole lot better either. And the place is way overpriced for what they serve. The service is good though.

We had a great waitress and a great time! Tried the baised beef tacon on the new summer menu. It was delicious! T had the 3 different seafood tacos and loved those as well. Our waitress was sweet and attentive while also being funny and quick. Great time!

Great atmosphere and top notch food. Servers and bartenders are good. Some of my best college memories were at Margaritas. It was the local "Cheers" for me and my friends. I enjoy the frosty tall beers that they serve and of course the margaritas. Chimichangas are also excellent.

The atmosphere was the type you need in every restaurant. The food? Even more so. From black bean enchiladas to authentic chimichangas, margaritas is your great food great place. Better for the kids rather than a romantic date night, though. Also a good thing to know is that downstairs is a loud bar area while upstairs is good for peace, dinner, conversation, and kids.

Like other reviewers, the food here is decent, but certainly not the Mexican food I long for after living in Southern California for 30 years. The beans are overly seasoned when eaten as a side dish, but I appreciated the seasoning when put into my steak (well seasoned, tender) chimichanga with the zesty cheese sauce. The enchiladas are acceptable, but not gooey-cheesy enough for my taste and the red-onion garnish on top was not something I appreciated as the taste and texture contrast was too pungent. I enjoyed the thin, crispy & warm tortilla chips and the salsa had some good spice. The service each time has been excellent, attentive and willing to offer recommendations. The margaritas are tasty and their Thursday Ladies Night 40% Off offer is not to be passed up if you're in the area. The prices are otherwise on the high-end for Mexican restaurants in my experience. In my quest to find good Mexican food in Maine (and in the Bangor area), this is the best I've found so far, though my quest continues.

I am from Texas and I am a Mexican food snob. This is a great place for drinks, meet friends and get a little rowdy. This is NOT a place to eat. While you may refill the salsa and chips, you won't be coming back for more food. Mexican food is supposed to be inexpensive, at Margartia's it is not and Mexican food is supposed to be fresh, at Margarita's it is not. Sorry Margarita's, I have had a lot of fun here, but it wasn't because of the food.

I've been a steady customer of Marg's since moving to Maine in 2001. No matter how many times we go, my wife and I never tire of it. We come here at least every other week, but are often in a couple days during any given week for happy hour specials. You just can't beat the fresh hot chips or the salsa (some of the best salsa anywhere, IMO). The food is excellent and the drinks are excellent. The service is pretty good (I think they do the best they can, considering the college crowd in Orono). All in all, this place is always worth the visit. If you leave hungry, it's your own fault.

The Margaritas(drink) themselves are very good. They provide free corn chips and salsa that is very good. That is about where it ends. I have a very hard time getting excited about the food. I usually leave feeling ripped off. The Mexican here is very uninspiring, regular sized portions, with lots of lettuce as filler on the plates. I have had mixed service, and often the food has come out late, and a bit cold.

The food and service is no longer the excellent quality it was. Our meals arrvied barely warm, and the steak was tough. Servings are smaller. We asked for a double serving of rice and did not get a double serving, and the margaritas were not as good as usual.

Food was eh, ok, for Orono standards. Except for the nice blonde/red head hostess, the staff was inattentive and rude when I went. What's happened to the "service" part of the "service" industry?

This is place where you go for drinks...lots of drinks. Food is something you order if you bring a date. Most foods are tex mex style food. 'Ritas are all over the new england so chances are you station in new england you will eat / drink / get kicked out there once or twice in your life time. Probably the best quality of waitress in the area as far as service and looks concerned. If you can't handle college kids drinking and screaming next you, this place isn't for you.

I absolutely love Margarita's! I love the food, I love the staff, I love the location! You must order the frozen lime and coconut margarita!

Had a great time here with friends. The food was good Tex Mex that was plentiful and fairly priced. I will be going here again.

I from down south and while not truly authentic it is still great! Drinks are amazing! Food is good and reasonable priced.

A wonderful place to spend a week night, or the night of the full moon! The food is decently priced and the portions are generous. This is the perfect place to start a nice long night of debauchery, or bring the family out for a nice taste of Mexican food. They have drink specials and 2-for-1 entries for college students on Wednesdays. There are specials for ladies on Thursdays.

Atmosphere is amazing!! Every month on the Full Moon there are games and prizes and 5% of your bill is donated to a local charity. Arrive early for Tuesday Trivia Nights--the place is packed! I've been to lots of birthday parties there and there's plenty of room! Servers are friendly.

Not authentic, but decent food. Expensive for what it is. Their spicy margarita was good, at least. Have had a few really bad service experiences there (mistake twice in a row and waiter didn't cut the check either time), so won't be going back.

So normally I'd say this place is hot garbage. In fact it's luke warm garbage. The food must've fallen victim to the blasting a/c on the cool night. So let's start with the drinks. The margarita was without taste. It was a happy hour drink, weak on the booze strong on the flavor. It was, plainly, not very good. The chips were standard with canned salsa that was super spicy, not a complaint just a fact. When the meal came is when things went from so so to a waste of time and cash. The chicken quesadilla was of good portion. What it was filled with I couldn't tell by taste alone. It was tasteless. I mixed the chip salsa to get some sort of flavor out of my meal. My wife had the guadalajara steak fajita. As a standard it came with flour tortillas, we forgot to ask for corn. The waitress went and hooked it up for us, the cooks didn't. The tortillas were straight rubber. The vegitables were not consistant some raw some burned some cooked right. The steak was good for her, I found it too peppered. The rice was a little sour because everything was covered in some strange fruity shake or shaved citrus peel. The price wasnt outrageous just based on better food, so I feel I got a little ripped off. In the end I wish I took the money I paid and traded it for a dollar that way I'd be able to buy a candy bar and feel a little satisfied.

So good! Wednesday nights are 2 for 1 college nights (show your college ID and you get 2 for 1 meals). The Russelrita is the best frozen drink in the world.

I hate giving places such a low rating, but there has never been a single dish that has impressed me, here. Their food is more of a Tex-Mex style, with heavy red ranchero sauce on almost everything. Not my style. Whether it's authentic or not, is not my concern. I avoid that debate, completely. Everything seems overbaked and just not my style. It's a lively place in the evening. Come on in after a hockey game, for a good time. I'd come here and hoist a few cold ones, but probably avoid the food menu. Nice servers and all, but just doesn't cut it for me in the 'food' category. I think it's really tough because I grew up in Orono and now live just north of the Mexican border. But in all fairness to my own review: I never really liked it here. Although no one's ever going to give a fuck what my review says, because if you're in Orono, you'll probably eat here anyway. I probably could go for a 'rita there right now...

yum! I usually hate mexican food but I love this place! The russelrita is AWESOME! I get one every single time I come here! They have a jukebox on the wall, TVs to watch the game on, and lots of seating. The middle floor is where the bar is and where most of the college crowd hangs out at. The downstairs is more quiet and the upstairs is like a normal restaurant. I love the veggie enchiladas, avocado cheese crisp, and Aztec shrimp. Great place for dinner or late night to hang out with friends. The staff is usually awesome and on top of their game. The atmosphere is really chill but on weekends it picks up with loud music and lots of people.

Mexican food is my absolute favorite and as a native of the American southwest, I have had my share of incredible Mexican food. If I was judging this place against anything back home, it wouldn't get a very high rating. However, I am giving Margaritas it's rating based on it being in Maine because it is nowhere near the Mexican border so expectations can't be set too high. That being said, Margaritas is pretty alright. It is not terrible and if you are looking for Mexican food in Orono, it may be the best option (except if you want Chipotle style, Verve across the street is pretty good). I went for the 'All You Can Eat' taco Tuesday deal with a big group of people and for only $8, it is a killer deal, especially for college students. The first plate comes with rice and beans and you can keep ordering sets of 3 tacos until you are done. They even let you order an extra plate to take home!

Great food for a chain, and awesome margaritas (better be with the name). Service has always been good at this location and the wait staff is very friendly. My recommendation is if you plan on drinking more than one margarita to just buy a pitcher, oh and the grilled shrimp tacos are great.

They have great food, great drinks, and great service. There are $2 well drinks after 9 pm and it draws my friends and I there often. They work hard and always have chips and salsa on the table. Most of the staff are very nice and prompt.

When I was visiting my parents in Bangor, their friends insisted that we try this place. My dad is a big fan of Mexican food, so we decided to give it a try. When we arrived, they seated us at a round table, which was uncomfortable for 5, so we asked to be moved to a long table. They were very accommodating with that request. When our server arrived at the table, my dad asked her if she was Hispanic. She said she was not. He asked her if the chefs were Hispanic. She said that they were also not. My father then questioned the authenticity of the food, to which she replied, "They went through a full training in Mexico though!" I'm sure they did. Pleasantries aside, it took my server fifteen minutes to bring me water, and that was after I asked the second time. This went on throughout the night. She also was not very knowledgeable on food, as she found it difficult to recommend anything. She also did not know the difference between the various alcoholic beverages and/or the foods they offered. The food finally arrived after an extremely long wait, and it was meh. You could tell that it was very Americanized, and the servings were much smaller compared to a majority of the Mexican restaurants I have been to. The margarita I would not recommend. Overall, meh.

I've eaten here a million times. Best margaritas on the planet. Most people love the Russelrita but it's a little too sweet for me. It has a college town feel and the decorations are authentically Mexican. The food is okay! Try to sit upstairs or in the basement dining rooms. The servers on the bar level normally have too many tables to be able to keep up. Note: Wednesdays are 2 for 1 college night. Make sure you have your college ID. The Orono location is a lot better than the Augusta location.

I love this place. I loved it as a college student; now I love it as a mom. Sign up for the birthday club and it us the perfect place to celebrate. Who doesn't want a song, a sombrero, and a chocolate covered fried ice cream? Yes, save room for dessert, it is worth it! Wednesdays are 2 for 1 college night. Now that I've finally graduated, I go for other special days. My kids love Cinco de Mayo there in the early dinner time when they get plenty of attention, sombreros, beads, and wax sticks for making stuff (creative kid toy!). Also, it is hard to find a place that can accommodate dairy free dessert, but they have a kid size fruit smoothie that they like. Bonus for kids, the Orono park is behind the fire station across Main street. Take your dessert to-go and let the kids run themselves out!

Although the blood orange margarita looked pretty in the menu, not much taste as a blended drink, and pricey for what you get. First time I ever had veg quesadillas that were stuffed with spinach! They were fine, slathered with salsa, but I thought paying $12.50 for them was too much for what I got.

Ugh. The search is still on for decent mexican food. We recenly relocated from TX and were looking forward to trying the food at this location. Very dissapointed as we have been to the Portsmouth location and had great fresh food. The "fresh"guacamole at the Orono location was filled with brown pieces of avacado and tasted sour. Salsa was so loaded with salt that we could not eat it. We had chicken and beef chimichangas. Mine was burnt on the outside and the steak inside was loaded with pepper. The rice was actually decent as a side. The chicken chimi was bland and the refried beans had no flavor. The service was not great either. Sat down for 5 min without a drink order and there was maybe 3 other tables besides us in the whole place. Our waitress came back only once to check on us. No way will we go back here.

The perfect college town mexican restaurant. The food is very fresh and the drinks are very satisfying. My wife got the pulled pork enchiladas with 3 different sauces, loved it. I got some steak fajitas and very delicious. It was a great night out.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
