The second of the two microbreweries in Orono is off to a good start. Several beers always on tap and new ones popping up randomly on the menu. The staff is always friendly and happy to see you. Some food is available. The music is 100% turntable and vinyl. How cool is that??
All the beers are good but the 2 that stand out the most to me were the Double IPA and the woodman's stout. Delicious
They are doing some great things here. Very customer focused as well with a great atmosphere in the tap room. The nitro pours are very unique. Flavor and profiles are all unique and full bodied. I live in Portland and frequent the craft breweries in this area often, but Orono Brewing has remained on the top of my recent fantastic beer experience list over the others. Can't wait to get back up.

The gloomy Maine weather was the stimulus to getting out for a supper. The dining room had some lively music to listen to. A pleasant appetizer was a spicy cranberry jam, goat cheese costini. Our entrees were a fried haddock sandwich with fries, a stout burger with onion rings, a classic burger with sweet potato fries and a buffalo chicken salad. The portions were generous the food was good. The server was friendly and efficient. There is a rewards card if asked for where it records amount paid and rewards $20 for $250 in purchased. Alcohol is excluded. The Orono brewery company provides several draft beers. Worth repeat visits. They is patio dining available when the weather is good.
Woodman's is our first choice for dinner out in Orono if its just the two of us. The food is fresh with quality ingredients thoughtfully put together. They make superb mixed drinks that are quite large in size (my go to is the Moscow Mule). Their recent addition of Orono Brewing Company beers is just another reason to go out. I would recommend any of their food - we've had great burgers, steaks, risotto and pasta dishes. They are accommodating of food allergies if you ask, which is always nice. The only downfall is that Woodman's is often busy and can be hard to go to with groups. If you are flexible about table or bar seating, the wait isn't often long. Plus, the bar is a great place for conversation.
A local favorite of ours. A great mixture of friendly staff and good food. We always enjoy our time at Woodmans. Have not had an entree that I would not recommend. Burgers are excellent if you're looking for Pub fare. Good local beers on tap, and a unique cocktail menu as well. Worth a visit, for sure.

I've tried all of the local pizza places in the area, like Acme and Pat's, but this place seems to have the best pizza. Not only that, but the prices are decent and the delivery time always seems to be about 10-15 minutes faster than the usual 1/2 hour they tell me on the phone. All in all, if you want the better pizza in town, order from OHOP.
Excellent Pizza. Very friendly staff. I recommend the BBQ Chicken pizza.
Great prices and specials, quick delivery, so-so pizza. It's okay as long as it's hot. The sandwiches and salads are not so great.

Eating in a small college town is risky. The clientele has no money (and some would say little taste), the competition is little or nothing. And Maine is one of the most diversity-challenged states in the country, so there is always the question as to whether there really aren't white people in the kitchen doing all the cooking. Not so here. The cook/owner is the real thing, and the food is the real thing, And not being in Boston means more reasonable prices. Only one visit, but everything I tried was quite good, very fresh tasting (another concern out in the sticks), and very authentic. Atmosphere is a bit better than storefront, but that's better than paying money fror faux-Siamese Palace decor. Service was fine.
They've got the worst service ever. I would NOT go back to this place again!! I warn you this restaurant charges you everything even small favor you ask them to bring, even ice tea refill without informing you. They carged me $7.50 for my ice tea. I had a free refill last time. So I knew their ice tea is refillable. But this time they carged me the refills. I had to pay $20 for my lunch. The waitress rude. She said I should talk to her boss. But the boss never showed up because he was "having lunch" in another room. No one explained why I could have a free refill last time but why I had to pay for my refills this time. They were all rude. Their foods are expensive for the sizes. They even charge one of my friends for little more bean sprouts for her noddles. There are good thai reataurants besides this one. I would never use this restaurant again!!!
Didn't know what to expect at a Thai place in Orono but this place did not disappoint. I went with a small group, everyone loved what they had. Curries were good, spring roll appetizers were great. The fried noodles were interesting and delicious, drunken noodles were good and spicy. Even the Thai iced tea was great. I will stop here again any time I'm stopping through town.

Harvest Moon Deli

Honestly one of the better sandwiches I've had. As someone who travels a lot and eats quite a few sandwiches, I was skeptical that a place in Orono could measure up, but Harvest Moon Deli did not disappoint! I ordered the Eric Clapton on ciabatta and the way the flavors all melted together was just heavenly on my taste buds. Definitely worth a try if you are in the area or driving by and need a good lunch!
The Orono area is not packed with Deli options, so the Harvest Moon is one of the only places to go to get a sandwich apart from Subway. The Harvest Moon is not a sub sandwich city deli, they have 'classic' sandwiches on sliced bread with pesto mayo and grainy mustard. The specialty sandwiches are good, I usually get an Ella Fitzgerald or Dizzy Gillespie. The bread is always fresh and you can buy a loaf to take home. They have a soup of the day - last time I was in it was Minestrone.
Nice, intimate deli reminiscent of ones dotting NYC. Plenty of choices on the menu and friendly wait staff. Music playing in the background fits nicely with their music-themed sandwich names. I went with the Jefferson Airplane and was not disappointed.

The Family Dog

Had a fun lunch at their Grammy's Grilled Cheese food truck on the Bangor waterfront yesterday. We were able to eat and take a short walk on the waterfront before the rain set in. Even in the rain, people were still having lunch there as a portion of the profits yesterday were going to a local charity. The kids love classic grilled cheese on gluten-free bread and mom is a sucker for anything with pesto-- their caprese is fab!!
Once again had a great meal at the Dog. Their bean burger cannot be beat. I always get the Havanese. Onion rings are to die for, but the fries hold their own. Coffee and tea are great and their breakfasts are generous and inexpensive. Breakfast sandwich (comes with home fries) is my fave. Always look forward to a visit to Orono so I can visit the Family Dog.
Lame-o dogs, stale buns, soggy fries, overcooked tasteless burgers, filthy tables, but a great view from the porch. Why do I keep on going to bad hot dog joints? Are there any good ones in this state?

Margaritas

15 Mill St
Orono, 04473
Reviews:
Now living in Aroostook County, when I go down to the Bangor area, I plan to eat at restaurants where I can have food that I can't get in the County. Mexican food is one of those things. My two friends and I went to Margaritas (we've heard good things) for dinner the other night. Service was good, no problem there. However, I wish I could say the same for the food and drinks. I'm originally from Connecticut, where you can get excellent Mexican food, just about anywhere, and when you order something at one restaurant, its pretty similar at another. Margaritas is not like that. My fiancee ordered a beef taco, which the meat was just ground beef, and said he could have had better if we made it from a packet at home. My other friend ordered a burrito. I ordered an enchilada with chicken, the queso sauce on top (whatever you call it) and a side of refried beans, Mexican rice, and a side of the queso dip. The chicken in my enchilada was whole, not shredded as every other enchilada I've had. My refried beans had huge chunks of beans, the rice was sub par. I have no idea what that dried up white stuff was on top of my enchilada, but not what I expected. And the "queso" dip, was not a queso blanco, runny dip as most have...it was a chunky, rich dip that cost extra, and was certainly not worth ordering. Last, my fiance paid $6 for a glass of Sams Seasonal...my "margarita" was $8 (small), and frozen. It tasted like the kind you make out of the bucket at the grocery store. I couldn't even taste the alcohol in it, so I had to order an extra shot to add myself, and even then it wasn't good. You'd think those would be amazing for the fact they named the restaurant Margaritas! We should have gone to another Mexican establishment in the area, for bigger tastier margaritas, and real Mexican food. You all can read yelp reviews and see which those are. Only reason I gave two stars was because my waitress was great.
This is perhaps the worst Mexican food I've ever had. Never try their fish taco; it is very dry and inedible. One of their lager beers from the tap that I had tasted like soap. Their enchilada is not a whole lot better either. And the place is way overpriced for what they serve. The service is good though.
We had a great waitress and a great time! Tried the baised beef tacon on the new summer menu. It was delicious! T had the 3 different seafood tacos and loved those as well. Our waitress was sweet and attentive while also being funny and quick. Great time!
