Just finished dinner after being worried what my experience at the restaurant would be like after reading the terrifying reviews on yelp. The experience couldn't have been any better. Service stood out as the best feature. Wait staff was exceptionally attentive yet not intrusive. The caliber of the food matched that of the service. Appetizers and dessert were promptly delivered and phenomenal. At the center of it all, the main course was so good it will not be forgotten for some time to come. As as avid American Express cardholder myself, I share disappointment when an establishment does not accept Amex. I prefer to keep my expenses on one card as to not worry about having to remember I have another bill to pay that month. I agree that Angelina's should rethink it's policy of honoring Amex, particularly being that it attracts a more upscale clientele of area diners. However, being an Amex holder, I also know that visa and MasterCard are the defacto standard in the world of credit. When entering a small business, I am accustomed to being on the lookout for Amex decals on the door. Angelina's clearly displays visa and MasterCard logos in their entry with no mention of Amex so their is no reason to assume they will accept it. For such times I have backup cards available and would never let a minor inconvenience such as not accepting my credit card upset or merit me wasting my time to write a scratching online review. The food and service were phenomenal and that's what's important to me having a enjoyable dine out experience.

We went here our first night in Ogunquit because it was convenient to where we were staying. We were impressed with our scallop appetizer even though it was one scallop short of the 3 that were supposed to be served according to the menu. Eh, no big deal....there are two of us and two scallops, it works. It went downhill from here. My veal marsala came out cold. The server was very quick to take it back to the kitchen and it came back out hot. Unfortunately, the veal was rubbery and not very flavorful. My husband's steak was cooked as he ordered it. It was okay, but not great by any stretch. The prices were way too high for the quality of the food. Maybe if we had ordered pasta, we would have more impressed, it is an Italian restaurant after all. However, if they are going to charge $25 for steak, it better be good....actually better than good. I can get a "good" steak at Bugaboo Creek for significantly less, for $25 you better impress me. Especially in Ogunquit, ME during the off season...$25 should go a lot further up here than it does in Boston. I get what they are trying to do here. The lounge and the restaurant are very cute. It has a cozy bistro feel. If the food quality reflected the look of the place, it would be great. At this point it doesn't, so it is not worth it in my opinion. If you do go here, prepare to be up-sold on nearly everything. "Oh, you're getting two glasses of wine, why not get a bottle?", "Would you prefer bottled water to tap water?", "Would you like garlic bread instead of bread and butter?", "Would you like a salad with your meal?", "How about a shot of Sambuca with your espresso?", etc.... It is never ending. It's a great way to do business because they make more money, but before you know it you are paying $150 for a mediocre meal...and that's WITH a coupon for "buy 1 entree, get one 1/2 off"! Yowsah! For my money, I would go to Joshua's anyday over Angelina's. We spent less money there and had a meal that was 10 times better.

We started our family vacation off to a great start by dining at Angelina's.The food and service was outstanding. We usually go to the north end in Boston for great italian food but this was every bit as good. Great wine selection.

We decided on Angelina's for my Dad's 60th birthday. We were visiting family in Wells and received a recommendation to try Angelina's and I am so glad we did. It was fantastic, from beginning to end. We had a large party of 8 adults and 2 toddlers. Their service was great. The food was honestly amazing! We met the chef and he was very welcoming and charming. We started off with an antipasto platter and my uncle had the fish stew. Both were very delicious. There was plenty to eat on the platter, we split the small platter 4 ways and each of us had plenty! Everyone in my party loved their food. I had a shrimp scampi type dish with broccoli and tomatoes, the flavors were excellent and the shrimp were huge! My husband had the chicken parm as well as an order of gnocchi. I tried both and thought the chicken parm was outstanding. My mothers dish was the real standout. She had the Sunday special meal. Chef David informed us that he had made the sauce with several types of meat, including steak tips very early that morning. The dish was amazing. The meat was so tender, the taste of the sauce was so delicious. I am still thinking of this dish and would drive the hour to have this again this Sunday ;-) Great restaurant, great atmosphere, the decor is great too! I felt like I walking into an Italian villa and having been to Tuscany I feel like I have ground to stand on. I highly recommend this fantastic restaurant!!!!! MANGIA!!!

Surprisingly good Italian food. Being a new yorker I'm a harsh critic of Italian food. Cute bar , good wine list , lobster fra diablo was really good. Good service. Not overly priced.

This is our favorite local restaurant. The food is excellent, the best Italian food north of Boston. Big portions and cooked just right. David, the owner, makes us feel at home. Chris, the head bartender, is very personable and knows his alcohol. I always recommend this restaurant to locals and tourists!

We ate here on a recent vacation in Ogunquit. It was just OK. For appetizers, we shared an antipasto plate. The usual fare - sliced meats & cheeses. Dinner was veal angelina and fettucine carbonara (it was supposed to be tagatelli but they were out so they substituted spinach fettucini). Again both dishes were passable but nothing special. We will probably skip this place on our next visit to Ogunquit.

This place is a definite tourist trap. The food isn't terrible by any means, but it's not worth the Boston North End prices. The service was nice but incredibly slow. Plus, it's definitely not a romantic place considering it's practically on the edge of the road for Route 1. I would recommend going to other places in the area.

We went here on a Friday night for what we thought would be good Italian food. It was far from it. We started with the lobster ravioli's. Very little flavor, sauce was floury tasting and their were large chunks of raw garlic in the filling and the pasta was way over cooked. $ 14.00 . I was going to order chicken marsala but they were serving it with red bliss potatoes. Not a good sign. I ordered a special of swordfish with a tomato sauce over angel hair pasta. $23.00 The sauce was full of capers, very overpowering. The swordfish was ok, The pasta was way over cooked, didn't eat it. My husband ordered Shrimp and Asparagus risotto ( I think it was $25.00) My husband said it was boiled shrimp on top of rice. Tasted like package risotto mix. The atmosphere was about the same as the meal. Skip Angelina's.

Pretty delicious for a pasta place in the middle of nowhere Maine. I had the Tagatelli Carbornara which was very good and creamy, much better than the risotto version: Romano although not as much pasta as the other pasta dishes. A friend got the Insalata Formaggio di Capra which was surprisingly flavorful and included amazing fried balls of goat cheese. Romantic decor although you won't feel out of place going casual. Full bar.

We dined at this restaurant on Sunday October 31, 2010 it will be the last time .....Ordered a pork chop special the price was abt. $25.00 what was served looked and tasted like it had been precooked and reheated . It was very dark in color and had no sign of any moisture. When it arrived asked if we could have a side order of sauce to add some moisture, then thinking about the fact that $25.00 isn't cheap asked the waiter if we could return it.........Well within a minute a very arrogant owner approched us saying that this pork melted in his mouth. We will never return and do all we can to discourage families who rent our home in Ogunquit from doing business at this restaurant!!!!!!!

We celebrated my parents 50th wedding anniversary here at the end of July and it was a fabulous, perfectly orchestrated memorable evening. Dave the owner was fantastic to work with and very accommodating. He really added such thoughtful extras to our table such as pretty Gerber daisy flower arrangements, congrats confetti and the menus and table were dressed beautifully when we arrived. I had made the reservation quite a bit in advance and Dave made sure each detail was attended to with my 3 phone calls ahead of time. The semi private room was excellent for the occasion. Everything was spot on- the food was fantastic with many of our party ordering seafood. I ordered the salmon special which was excellent and came with delish potato cakes. Everyone loved their entree. We also had a champagne toast ( everyone enjoyed the selection that Dave recommended for this) and a beautiful custom cake. It was the best cake I have ever had! I would even put it above my wedding cake. It was baked at Bread and Roses but Dave took care of having it delivered so I did not have to worry about any of those details. It was a marble cake with chocolate filling and chocolate frosting with beautiful chocolate bells and letters Mom and Dad Happy 50th sculpted out of chocolate. It also had had done sugar glowers on it ( I did not even ask for them do fantastic touch!!!!) My Dad is a dessert hater ( he will never try dessert) and he raved about the cake and even had leftovers. I also want to send kudos to our fabulous young sever and thank him for a tremendous job. We have pretty high standards and our experience at Angelinas's soared above them with this most memorable day. We ate out at several other restaurants but this meal was miles above all the others in the area. Thank you so much for this truly excellent evening.

Fresh, authentic and delicious. We sat in the bar area so it was casual. Lobster ravioli were rich and delicious - an app size is perfect with another app or two. Wish we'd had room for dessert!

Delicious! Atmosphere very pretty. Everyone very nice. I ordered the eggplant parm and the only thing I would criticise is that they do not peel the eggplant which is fine if you are going to cook the eggplant longer, but the skin was tough and I almost choked on it and I had to pull it apart before eating; but honestly the flavors were very good.

My experience at Angelina's was a major disappointment. I took my girlfriend on what I thought was going to be a relaxing night out. We had reservations at 7:30 and we arrived about 10 minutes early. We ended up having to wait roughly 45 mins! When we were finally sat a new guy was taking care of us. (which is fine by me and we actually accommodated him with help pronunciation of menu Items) However, the owner David(?) kept following the nervous waiter around giving him a hard time. A few times we even heard him called "Stupid" and "retarded" I felt bad for the kid. Towards the end of our meal we heard this owner have a blow out in the Kitchen. David was tearing this kid up bad. It was so loud!! I over heard it was because he was not up selling desert to us. We didn't know if we should order dessert then or not. But instead we tipped the kid what the deserts would be and more. On our way out My girlfriend told the owner how she felt and he rudely snubbed her off. We will never go back. The owner needs to see a doctor and get on some Medication.

Very disappointing. The food was mediocre and the service was terrible. We were a party of four and seemed to be invisible to the staff. I would not give it a second chance which I normally do with most places.

It was our first visit to Ogunquit. We ordered the eggplant and gnocchi as appetizers, mushroom risotto as entree. Must say all the food was really good. Our total bill was $52 including the tip and 2 cokes, was on the expensive side but we were on a holiday and didn't mind, as the food was good and service was prompt and pleasant.Must try!

  • Lauren W.

Food was good. However, for the prices you expect more. The service was unprofessional, young students. The servers just need better training. The portions are large so we decided to share an entree and a salad. We encountered a $5 plate charge - I hate plate charges! If you're in the Ogunquit area and craving Italian I would recommend coming here. Other than that, you have a lot of better options. For the prices my recommendation is MC Perkins Cove, great food, great prices, better service.

Food was fantastic and will be back. The only negative was it took some time to get food but it was worth the wait.

Can I give more stars? There's a reason this place is packed. The food is amazing and the service is, too. Everything obviously fresh and made from scratch and you can feel the passion for cooking and love behind the food. I don't mind spending $28 or so for an entree when it's amazing. This food is simply amazing. I'm sorry i can't come up with a better adjective. Once you're inside it isn't noisy, just lively. House infused vodkas a pleasant addition to the drink menu. I'm looking forward to the next time.

This was our first time here and we all agree we will visit again. Both food and service were too-notch. (Eggplant tower appetizer, Cesar salads, lasagna, spaghetti and meatballs, chicken parm, mushroom creamy pasta...) No rat in sight lol.

First of all I am an Italian American that loves to cook. My husband and I ate at Angelina's last night. We had Eggplant Parm, Rigatoni and Meatballs, and mussels in marinara. It was absolutely fantastic. Five plus stars for food , ambiance and service. It's a little pricey but well worth it. We loved it.

The food here is excellent but the service is very slow. It takes a very long time to get your food. Be prepared to wait for the food. Overall the food is truly amazing it just isn't very fast.

Let me start this off by saying that I have not one bad thing to say about this place. A friend of mine who has been going to Ogunquit for over twenty years recommended Angelina's, and it was certainly an excellent recommendation! First off, our inn that we stayed at gave us a coupon for a free appetizer (win!), so that makes it appealing from the get go. Then, when we called, we were able to get a reservation without any trouble at all (and we only called an hour ahead of time). The menu is extensive, with a good selection of appetizers, salads, and entrees. They also have a large wine list and a great selection of martinis. My boyfriend and I split the portobello stuffed mushroom appetizer, and it was delicious. Gotta love buttery seafood stuffing! We also split a caprese salad, which was very fresh, and what we call "top notch". I ordered the rigatoni bolognese for my entree, and my boyfriend got the chicken parmesan. The bolognese was absolutely amazing- unbelievably good flavors and the pasta was super fresh. The chicken parm was very good, but the bolognese out-shined it. We also had desert, selected off another extensive menu. We split the carrot cake and it was awesome. We also had martinis with our desert, because, why not?! It's vacation! Chocolate martini and espresso martini were both awesome. Our waitress, Shannon, was very attentive, but not intrusive. Really quite perfect! Food came out at a good pace too, but we were not rushed at all. Overall, a really excellent meal and a great place!

My fiancée and I had dinner here while on vacation. The service was good-I see other reviews that say it was slow. But I found all the servers to be very attentive. I had the Fettuccine Alfredo with broccoli and my fiancée had a steak. We shared a cannoli for dessert. Everything was really good. I think the only complaint would be that my fiancée asked for his steak to be medium rare and it came out well done.

We ate here last night. The food was awful, very salty. The service was horrible. I don't know where they are getting these fantastic reviews, but this is one place I would stay away from. We ate at Five-O the previous night and will probably go back. We will never, ever go back to Angelina's, over priced, disgusting food! Thanks to this rude owner for reminding me to review Five-O. I had forgotten to do so. As anyone can see by his response, he is very rude & obnoxious, just like he treats his customers. The chicken parm was bland & tasteless, pasta was very watery. Maybe they should teach the kitchen staff how to drain pasta. It's not that hard! This place in no way compares to the North End of Boston. Oh, and by the way, I actually did eat there. Had about 3 bites and left. Absolutely the most disgusting meal we have ever had.

Really lovely dinner. There were 5 in our party, we ordered steak, spaghetti, chicken and eggplant. All were delicious and cooked perfectly. Our waiter was sweet and attentive, and the food didn't take long at all to come out. The food and dining was worth the price, which was pretty standard for high quality fare.

We arrived early and had some great specialty drinks at the bar. The bartender made sure we were all happy with our choices. We were seated inside and must say the service was was very good . However, the food was just ok. I was disappointed especially since it was recommended to us. I do love my Italian food and found my dish and another's to be very bland. I had to add a lot of ground pepper and red pepper to my chicken parm. The portions are good and they have a good menu. Minus two stars though because the flavor is a big deal with me.

  • Brittney L.

My husband and I came to Angelina's upon the recommendation of a couple of locals we met in a shop in Ogunquit. They said it was the place to go for delicious Italian food! We were not disappointed! They were not very busy when we arrived (dining on a chilly Tuesday evening). Our server was friendly and helpful with the menu. I had a Caesar salad to start that was very fresh and tasty and then had the rigatoni bolognese for my main entree which was the best meal I had our entire vacation. My husband had the chicken franchaise which he said was delicious but he still had food envy after trying my bolognese! This place is expensive but worth the money for the obvious care they put into their food and the freshness of the ingredients (include pasta cut in house!)

Here is update on this great restaurant. As always, the food is phenomenal! We did the lobster raviolis as an app and the pasta ma'lange for the Maine course. (Let me know if you caught that!) For drinks the bartender was on point. I will attach a couple pics of the restaurant. Last time I gave this place 5 stars and when it comes to the food it truly is, however I had a little run in with the owner Dave. He was not very welcoming and a bit rude. He is very proud of his food and rightfully he deserves to own that right. When it comes to a $235 dollar tab and a small issue comes up you'd expect to be treated better. I was looking at some previous reviews and it seems other customers have shared similar experiences. We will go back as we really do enjoy the quality food.

Excellent food and atmosphere. Highly recommend the House Specialty with Lobster, Shrimp, and Scallops. Meatballs were very tasty and marinara was up to par with the homeland, of which I've been to many times. The Bruschetta was served with bread and you added the topping to it. The waiter Chris was friendly and attentive but not overbearing. The owner David also made the rounds which is very impressive. A great place for a romantic night out or with friends.

David is a serious Italian Chef. If you don't see it on the menu he will make it for you. Case in point he made me a Gnocchi dish with a Romano cheese sauce, the meat of a full lobster with Prosciutto. I did not ask for the price. It was the most amazing gnocchi dish I have ever had (and I have had many). The price of this dish made to order and not on the menu was under $35 (yes the meat of a full lobster included). Everyone at our table loved their meals. My wife had the veal a'la francese, my sister in law had the veal Marsala and my brother in law the zupa de mare. All raved about their meals. The service at Angelina's is good. Attentive waitress, full water glasses and always plenty of bread. If you read some of the other posts you may be skeptical of Angelina's. There are some posts about an impatient owner etc. Let me tell you this. David is somewhat of a combination of Mario Batali and the soup nazi. Both are no nonsense passionate chefs that don't respond well to bull s_it. In short, if you savor great Italian food go to Angelina's. You will not regret it.

Excellent meal. From gnocchi appetizers thru desert. 3 adults with different tastes all enjoyed!!

  • Jenn N.

What a disappointment! The calamari was mixed w/ julienne squash & zucchini (very little calamari) the marinara was bland. I had the special of the night which was a portabello w/ risotto (tasted like dish water) my husband had the chicken francese (very bland) chicken was small with a large portion of spaghetti under it. I sent back my dinner & was never asked if I wanted something else.

DISLIKE......I stayed at the hotel next door and walked over to the restaurant at 5:30pm with no reservation, figured it was early enough to get a seat for 2 NOT. The next available reservation was 8:30. When I looked over at the bar and saw every seat tipped to lean on the bar I asked if we could eat there, reply was no those are reserved also. Even if we wanted a drink we would have to stand there while all the seats were empty. I will NEVER go back there after being treated like that!

Went for Thursday specials that were advertised in local paper 9.99 deal 10 To choose from... The food was good small portion but for 9.99 it was fine. My only issue was you had to ask for the special menu they give you 4 or 5 other menus but no special... Why advertise if you don't want to serve it... After trying the special I WOULD go back for the regular menu ... Only other comment the owner / Manager is rough around the edges watching him in action is unpleasant

    (4)
  • R S.

We did not have reservation, although we should have made one, because even though they were nice enough to let us in, it quickly got busy. I imagine they usually turn people away. It was a nice well-paced meal. Very much like a traditional Italian restaurant with a bit of contemporary additions. Lots of great menu options

  • Deirdre W.

Excellent place! When we showed up a little early for out reservation our table, for 8, was ready and we didn't have to wait. We ate what I think would normally be the outside seating but because it was a bit chilly out the siding was down and heat lamps on. Didn't feel cold at all. It was so pretty out there. The wait staff was great. Water glasses were always full. The one small issue was that my food didn't come out with the food for everyone else, I waited like one minute before the manager noticed. Once the manager notice he run back to the kitchen and got it. He said it just came out of the oven and he apologized. I know he wasn't lying because the plate was hot. It was so worth the wait. Everyone had a different dish and we all tried everyone's dish and everything was DELICIOUS!!! I tried stuff I normally don't like and if it was made that way every time I had them, I would love those foods. I was so full but kept eating because the gnocchi was that good. If I ever go back to Maine I will be stopping there again. I would also recommend this place to anyone going to the area.

Early winter snow so we dined here because it was walking distance from our lodging. Good service. The servings were quite ample. We weren't impressed with the food. We had fried risotto balls which were huge but not the best I've had. Caesar salad okay. Chicken Marsala on linguini was only so so. Blackened swordfish was okay but served on Mac n cheese that was too heavy. Bottom line...food was only okay, particularly given the prices$$$.

The food has always been very good here. I don't eat much meat, but whenever I've gone I've had a various fish dish (different each time) that was always cooked right and seasoned well.

DO NOT EAT HERE! Food average at best. (3stars). Owner is arrogant and became aggressive and combative when confronted about 1hr+ long wait and food that wasn't hot, none of dishes were made as ordered. Ended with owner losing control making a scene in middle of restaurant, refused to adjust bill, yelled about nothing being wrong with the food and kept repeating that they are the best restaurant in town. Followed after us outside when we walked out...police were called. Enough said! We were a party of four adults, a two yr old and a baby. Read other reviews.... Apparently happens often and they always reply with customer fault excuse. Do not waste time or money here.

Great Italian food. Have eaten here several times and never had a bad meal. Pasta, salmon, salads...all delicious. However, I did overhear the owner yelling, which made me wonder if the negative reviews mentioning his attitude towards customers and staff are true. I hope he calms down a bit because it really is a great little spot with great staff. It is also a bit pricey, but it's a touristy area, so that goes with the territory.

Best restaurant hands down in Ogunquit Fantastic food, wide range of choices on the menu, fantastic service and great wine list!! I've never had a meal I didn't love!! Dining room is lovely and bar is fun to sit at for a drink or meal but I love the patio in the summer

This is a solid 4.5 star restaurant! We ate here to celebrate our anniversary in June. I had called ahead to make a reservation and we were seated exactly on time, in a perfect table in the corner of the covered patio. I joked that they must have known we wanted a romantic table! We arrived a little early for our reservation and were happy to have a drink at the bar. Our bartender made fantastic drinks and was so friendly! He really started the evening off well! The owner came over to speak to us and let us know that our table was ready (nice touch) and I thought he was a really friendly guy (despite some of the negative reviews on here). Our server was great, never missed a beat in checking in to make sure that we had everything we needed and that our food was just as we had expected it to be. He was even kind enough to take our photo, which we truly appreciated! We had the seafood appetizer special - SO GOOD - and each had seafood for our dinner and couldn't have been happier with what we ordered. We will definitely be back on a future trip to try other items on the menu - it was really hard to narrow down our dinner orders because EVERYTHING sounded delicious!

Only negative would be bit of a wait even with reservation and I expect they messed up and gave my table away. The food and the service was spot on. Great pasta and rosoto. Everything was well prepared and served perfectly. A very good pick if your looking for Italian while in ogunquit area

Dined here Sat PM - first time at this restaurant, with a party of 5 with reservations. We were shown a lovely table and had a great waiter. Had their eggplant tower, which was delicious, lightly fried eggplant with fresh garden tomatoe and mozarella, with a drizzle of balsamic vinegar - a great starter enjoyed by all. Also had their aranchini, which was delicious. I enjoyed chicken with lemon.butter caper sauce that came with mashed potato and fresh veggies - I cleaned my plate. All 5 of us, so enjoyed our meals, wine and waiter. Nothing at all negative or constructive to say...maybe only that I wish the eggplant tower was so delicious, next time, I may order it as an entree and have it with a salad. Looking forward to returning - all our food was spot on and just delicious. It was extremely busy, so reservations espec. this time of year on a wkend, are a must. So the crowds must be in agreement with me..the food was delicious!

This restaurant is wonderful, the food is grea and the service is top notch. Don't even listen to the negative reviews. My wife and I went to Angelina's while on vacation and were glad we took the advice of the owner of Inn where we were staying and didn't go by the negative reviews here. We were greeted by the owner, promptly seated in the outdoor patio area and had a wonderful meal in a beautiful setting. Our waiter checked in on us frequently, and the owner even stopped by to ask how everything was. In a word: perfect!

I really enjoyed the food here. We had excellent service and a delicious meal. Next time I go I would sit at the cozy little bar area, there's a big comfy couch, and tables with candles. Very cozy!! I had the lobster over angel hair-it was beyond delicious. My mom had the haddock over pasta, she said it was the best piece of fish she's ever had. It was prepared perfectly. Will definitely go back again!

My wife and I went to Angelina's because on Sun nights they offer a 3 course menu for $21 per person. This is advertised on the sign out front, When we sat down and ordered, the waiter informed us that because the Sun night we arrived was the Sun before Veterans Day and considered a "Holiday" and the offer was not in effect. We ordered off the menu and the final bill was $97, this included 2 drinks , a salad, 2 entrees and a dessert. The food was good but why offer a Sunday night special if you are not going to honor it. My wife and I both feel that the Sunday night special should have been honored since no where does the sign out front say that it is not offered on "Holidays", I feel that we were taken advantage of and will never go back again , Marc R.

We tried Angelina and decided we should have keep on moving. The food was ok but not great. Lacked flavor even for a basic pasta sauce. it was very over priced for just pasta and sauce. I asked for a truffle oil to be added to the pasta and there was none. Even after the waiter told me it was added. We took cake home which had no flavor at all. it was was the German Chocolate. The wait staff were good. They keep checking on us and making sure we had everything we needed.

Beware...the owner, David Giarusso has issues. Like a previous reviewer stated, he threatens his customers. The town emptied out after new years eve so we popped in for an early dinner Sunday evening. Upon entering the near empty restaurant we walked past the hostess desk to utilize the restroom. A man, which we now know is the owner, asked if we were having dinner and gave us the impression that he thought we were there just to use the bathroom. When we were ready to be seated we were asked if we had made reservations. I stated that we had not and commented that we didn't feel that we needed reservations as the town was empty. The owner then stated that within 30 minutes his restaurant was going to be packed. His tone was arrogant and condescending. I apparently insulted him by assuming we didn't need reservations. The owner brought us to a table next to a large, noisy portable heater and walked away. We asked a waiter if we could sit elsewhere and he advised that he had to check with the owner. We stood waiting for a good five minutes before the owner returned to the dining room. Did I mention that the place was empty? This is when it hit the fan. The owner came back into the dining room and started raising his voice and stated that we had only 2 table choices, the one he had chosen for us or a table near the door. He stated that without reservations, he could not seat us anywhere else and he was not going to give us a window seat over someone who made a reservation. Mind you, there is no seat in the restaurant that has a view and the joint has zero atmosphere and I didn't ask for a window seat. The owner then yelled that I was ridiculous and the woman at the table next to us thought we were idiots?? Not sure where that came from however he continued to rant and rave. We decided to leave and I asked this arrogant and belligerent man if he was the owner as I reached for the restaurants business card. He reached over and aggressively grabbed my hand to remove the business card. He stated he was the ower then followed out the door and used profanity, threats and made a derogatory gender comment. His fists were clenched and he was physically threatening. All this because I wanted to change my seat. Word around town is that this guy has a very bad temper. If you want to pay his high prices and eat mediocre food that is up to you. Just don't complain about anything or it may be your last meal. Please check out his negative comments to customers who complain about his restaurant on Trip Advisor. You won't believe the arrogance of this guy. He even admits to one customer that most people think he is aggressive and hostile.

Amazing. I'm a sucker for real homemade Italian food and this was the real deal. Get the nightly special, whatever it is, and you will not be disappointed. One of the top ten meals I've ever ever had.

So disappointing. We arrived and waited at the host stand for longer than we should have. When we finally got to the front (with a reservation), the host saw - over our shoulder - a guest who was waiting and about to walk out. Instead of dealing with us, he ran after the people behind us, trying to get THEM to stay - to ensure another paying table. Rather than servicing the people who were there first. So that's how our night started. Our waiter was sweet, but unengaged. We asked for a small pasta dish for our 7 year old son. When the dish arrived, we were shocked at how large it was . . . until our bill came and it was a full priced entree - $21. We understand if a restaurant doesn't offer a kids menu, but at least offer some kind of small plate or "side" option for a child. Our meals were thoroughly average. The sauce was bitter, and if an Italian restaurant can't do good sauce, well then that's a problem. Even my son said he didn't like the sauce. Then I heard the owner berate the table of French Canadians next to us b/c their daughter didn't have her ID on her and wanted to partake in a glass of wine. She swore she was 21 (she was with her parents!) and he said, "I value my liquor license and you need to have your ID with you at all times." It was over-the-top and uncomfortable. Finally - their prices are unreasonably high. We went to Varano's - up the street - a couple nights prior and it was far better in every respect - food quality, service and prices. There was a huge line to get in as we were leaving and I just don't understand why. It's not worth it. We will not be back.

If I had read the other reviews I probably wouldn't have gone, but the place we were staying was across the street and the inn owner said we would not be disappointed - keep in mind we are foodies and he knew it. Let me say - Oh my Our waitress Lynne was so friendly and helpful, immediately trumping all the other places we had visited so far in Ogunquit. I had their Margarita special and got a delightful surprise, I love my tequila. Now about dinner - I was told they had a new Calamari appetizer - loved the breading and the combination with banana peppers was a nice change. It is now 24 hours later and I am still floored by the risotto dish I had. I wanted the Filet with mushroom risotto and Gorgonzola cheese, unfortunately we ate later and they were out of filet. I asked to sub chicken - I was not disappointed. The dish was mind blowing. The boyfriend had the scallops, tiger shrimp, lobster risotto and was equally impressed. We are already thinking of stopping back on our way to the airport in a week....wondering if it would keep for the flight home so I can share my new favorite with others.....

My wife and I have now gone to Angelina's two years in a row during trips to Maine and both visits have been fantastic. I am very surprised by some of the other reviews as we have had very good food and service during both visits. On our first visit we had a great waiter who gave some excellent recommendations regarding our dinner and the golf course we played the next day. The food was really good....so good that the restaurant made our "must do again on our next trip here" list. Our most recent visit, which was last minute, exceeded our expectations once again. Called about 30 minutes ahead of time and was able to make a reservation for a relatively early 5:45 dinner. I had a lobster Alfredo dish, which was well deserved after walking 27 holes that day, and it must have had the meat from a 1.5 lb lobster. Definitely the most lobster I have had in a dish such as this from a restaurant. The sauce was also very good. My wife went for the chicken parmesan and I have to say that it is probably the best chicken parm either of us have ever had. Not a very creative dinner choice I know, but it was great. Both meals were rather large portions as well. What made this visit better than the first was the dessert....a lemon coconut cake. My wife and I aren't big eaters and were on the fence about getting dessert, but once we tried a bite of this it was gone in probably less than a minute. The waitress informed us that the desserts were made by a bakery in the center of town. Overall we love this restaurant. Service was great both times, a manager or owner greeted us at our table during dinner and asked if everything was to our satisfaction and the food is just as good as the dinners we have had a various restaurants in the north end of Boston. If you want a good, filling Italian meal and a nice bottle of red wine to go with it (oh yeah they have a great wine selection too) this is the place!

After eating at this restaurant, I find it funny that folks state the food is comparable to what you'd eat in Boston or New York. To celebrate a special occasion with my husband, I researched restaurants in Oqunquit and decided to give this a try. Service was slow. The bread was not fresh (rolls you pop in the oven, not fresh Italian bread) and our appetizer, the Insalata Caprese was actually missing salt and pepper, basically a tomato and some cheese on a plate. I ordered the pesto, which was bland and lacked flavor. My husband ordered the pasta special with grilled sausage, olive oil and garlic and we had to send it back to the kitchen - there was no flavor to the pasta! We passed on dessert to avoid further disappointment. Dropping $100 on a disappointing meal is never fun.

"Don't leave home without it" and even think about dining here. **Be sure to read recent comments at the end*** The food was OK, but not at all worth the price. I had Linguine Carbonara which was ok but $22.00 I expected to get a dish of hot pasta that was a meal not an appetizer. But, I transgress. We made reservations for 3 couples on a Saturday night at the end of October. We arrived a few minutes before 7:30pm. We requested 7:00pm but were told that the earliest was 7:30pm. We were handed a buzzer and waited in the lounge area. At 7:45 the 3rd couple texted to tell us that they could not find a parking place and were going to cancel. We promptly told the host and were informed that because we were now a party of 4 instead of 6 we would have to "go to the end of the wait list". It was now close to 8pm and we decided to go the a nice little pub with a Red Sox theme a couple of door north. We got up to leave and magically a table for 4 would be ready in just a minute "they were setting it now". Well, by 8:15pm we were seated at a table on the patio, which is outside. We had a couple of propane heaters but for the end of October in Maine, near the ocean with the air temperature at 36 degrees we really should have turned around and said "thanks but no thanks:". We were seated at a small outside very crowded table. The gents gave the ladies their coats to put around their shoulders so that the ladies could use their own coats to keep their legs warm. The propane heaters gave enough heat to make the side of your body next to the heater hot and the other side cold. Our server came over to our table after we had been seated for 10-15 minutes to take our drink order. We had plenty of time to read the menu so we place our drink order and our dinner order at the same time. After our server took our order we were told to "enjoy each others company because each dish is individually prepared and it will take a while". She wasn't kidding, it really took over an hour for our food to arrive. Our server brought 2 dishes to our table and asked who had which dish. At $22.00 to $30.00 per dish ala carte, I expect the server to be able to remember who order which item. Once 2 out of 4 of us had our meals she left to retrieve the other 2 dishes which took much longer then it should. I expect a nice restaurant to have all the dishes brought to the table at the same time. As I said earlier, the food was good, not great, BUT it was not even piping hot. waiting for 1 hour for food that is "individually prepared" there is no excuse for my pasta to be luke warm. So we ate, and tried to keep warm. After dinner two of us ordered decaf coffee, we received a cup of delicious hot coffee. In 5 or 10 minutes our server came to our table and ask us if we would like a refill. We both said yes and she picked up one person's used coffee cup, and returned with more coffee. I looked at her and pointed to my empty coffee cup and she said "ooh, did you want more coffee too? You had regular didn't you?" I said "no, it was decaf". As I said earlier, at this level of dining, I expect the server to remember if we had regular of decaf, to refill both cups, and to use a clean cup for the refills and not take away and empty cup and return with more coffee leaving us to wonder if we received a clean cup or not. We put down 2 Costco American Express credit cards and we discussing how we all LOVE Costco, go to the store every week, look forward to our savings rebate check in February and adore the customer service especially the no questions asked refunds. Our server came to retrieve the check and told us "we do not take American Express because the fees are too high. Just MasterCard and Visa and Cash". As I was taking out my emergency use only MasterCard I politely said to the server "please let the manager know that I won't be returning to this restaurant because I prefer establishments that honor American Express". The waitress told me "do you see how busy this place is? The owner has 3 restaurants in town and doesn't take Amex in any of them and never will". So the moral of the story is.... Don't eat at restaurants that won't pay a couple of extra % percentage points to give customers the choice of which credit card that they would like to use. And ooh yeah a warm table on a late fall night in Maine would be nice too. ********************** Nov 1, 2010. Here's an update that I received as a private message regarding this review. I'm not sure who it is but I'm guessing it's the manager... From: arechos lets be honest about the review you were bitter because we didnt take american express, you changed your number of guests 3 times, and you knew you were going on the patio so maybe you should have walked out and went to the little boston red sox pub you wanted, and as for the carbonara being an appetizer portion another lie. you must be pretty bored and loney to take the time to write a long review like this pathetic is what i

Ogunquit is beautiful, but it's a culinary wasteland. Head up the road to Wells and try out the excellent Angelina's. Fine Italian on par with the best from Boston and Providence. Excellent, icy cold, generous martinis, Italian wine list (you don't find Primitivo at too many restaurants), grilled eggplant "tower" app, and maybe the best pasta bolognese I've had. Low key, but attentive service. A real treat.

The restaurant squeezed in our party of 5 early in the evening, and I am so happy they were able to accommodate us. I began the meal with one of their signature martinis, a ruby red, which was fabulous. Unlike the usual martinis off the list, it was not sickening sweet. Instead, this martini was tart and smooth. A perfect beginning! Next came the focaccia, which was piping hot from the oven. It could have been a meal in and of itself, but I am so happy we restrained ourselves for the main course. I ordered the Fileto Rissotto, and my mouth is still watering over the perfectly cooked Fliet. Many times when ordering Rissotto, the rice is too sticky and becomes congealed, but not this! The mushrooms were fresh and delicious and a perfect compliment to the Filet. Everyone else was equally impressed with their meals, including the Lobster Three Ways and Meat Lasagna. Our server was very attentive, and the host checked in on our meal several times. All in all it was a wonderful evening!

We did not eat here due to the snob greeting us, but we ate at the pizza place next door which he reccomended as still their place but with pizza, subs, and some entree's. What a disappointment food was aweful, overcooked pasta sauce, undercooked pasta and burnt meatballs. If you get stuck here run away from both places.

Party of 8 and waiter in training and still had a wonderful experience. We all had different entrees and shared appetizers, salads and desserts. Great selection and specials. My wedge salad was crisp and dressed with large chunks of blue cheese. I had pollo rollantini as an entree. The chicken was moist and tender, full of prosciutto and mozzarella, covered in a light spinach cream sauce. The bartender (owner?) even made me a brandy Alexander to top off a wonderful meal. Wish we lived in Ogunquit. We would be regulars!

We decided to come here after reading good things about the place. When we called on the afternoon of May 25, we were told that we can only make a reservation for a party of five at 8pm (no earlier). OK, we literally went around the town for over half an hour (and skipped a couple of other restaurants that did have earlier tables available), and arrived at 7:45pm just to be safe. After waiting for about 10min, we were "advised" that they also owned a pizza place next door, if we wanted "a lighter dinner". We politely declined, still holding high expectation of the "real dinner" at this place. Our table (#13) turned out to be not ready until 8:20pm. We were greeted by multiple people working at the restaurant, telling us that the table should be ready in "one moment" for at least five times before that. We could see that everyone working at the restaurant was doing their best, including our waiter. However, the restaurant was surely understaffed --- getting extra water took 5min and two reminders, getting food also involved waiting, even if we took pre-caution and ordered before we sat at the table at 8:20pm. The food was OK (Lobster in pan was pretty good) , but definitely did not blow us away as we had high expectation for this so-called one of the "best Italian restaurants north to Boston". We appreciated the hard work of the employees there and thought they deserved every penny of the gratuity, which by the way was automatically assessed for a party of five. However, we felt that the restaurant owner could have got more staffs, or be more careful when taking reservations --- if you couldn't get have the table ready, please avoid accepting reservation at that particular time --- or at least tell us to expect your failure to honor the reservation in a timely manner on the holiday evening, so we could have planned accordingly and gone somewhere else.

The food here was really good! the service by Gabe was really good! All around good experience until we were given a speil to write a review on trip adviser. Granted it was supposedly for Gabe to earn a reward for his service it felt a little like a push for positive reviews. I suppose its in their right to do this but it sort of turned me off. Just my personal feelings on it. I was a little nervous to go here because there were a few really bad reviews regarding the manager. While we were there he did come over to ask if everything was going well so in my personal experience everything was great. Overall I would recommend it its a little on the pricey side but the food came in good portions and the service was top notch. I recommend calling ahead if you are a large party.

This was, without a doubt, the worst experience I had ever had in a restuarant, EVER. My husband and I were vacationing in Maine and decided to have a nice night out. We chose Angelina's because it looked inviting from the outside. We didn't have reservations, so the manager/owner told us, rather rudely, that we would have to 'sit in the lounge if we wanted to eat.' We said that was fine. A busboy gave us water, and then we waited for a server to take our drink order. No one came over. We watched as a group of servers stood around at the front entrance, and finally my husband got up and asked the owner if someone could please take our order. This is where the nightmare begins. My husband went to the men's room, and the minute he disappeared, the owner came charging over to my table. "you OK now?" he sneered sarcastically at me. "Excuse me?" I said. "You obviously have a problem. You were only waiting 2 mintues. You had no reason to complain." he said, VERY loudly. "It was more than 2 minutes, sir." I replied. THAT DID IT. He completely lost it, leaned in 1 inch from my face and screamed "Who the HE** ARE YOU? GET OUT!" I got up and backed away. I literally thought he might attack me. I ran down the hallway to where the restrooms were to talk to my husband. He stood 3 feet from me, and he was FUMING. He looked like he was going to explode and I sensed this was a BAD situation and we needed to get out FAST. I pushed open the door to men's room sligntly (a first for me) and called out to my husband "We have to get out of here...this owner is nuts." My husband and I quickly tried to exit the restaurant but the owner heard me say to my husband "this is awful." and freaked out again. He bellowed "YOU'RE PSYCHOTIC! EVERYONE IN THIS RESTAURANT HATES YOU AND THINKS YOU ARE A PSYCHOPATH!' I stood, frozen, listening to him rant at me. "I'M CALLING 911 AND THE POLICE ARE GOING TO GET YOU!" he yelled. We got in our car, FAST, and drove away. I called 911 myself and told them that this man screamed at us and threatened to call the police. I did not wish to file any charges, because, honestly, I do not want this man to know my name. He scares me. We had 3 days left in Maine, but my husband said, "that's it. we're done." and we left and drove back to Massachusetts. I don't care what good reviews there are on here. You might indeed go to this restaurant and possibly have a good night. I'm sure the food is ok; it certainly smelled and looked good. But the owner is a ticking time bomb. You might get him on a 'good' night when he doesn't yell and scream. But do you really want to take that chance ? We went down the road to another restaurant...sat at the bar (it was jam-packed) and I told my story to several folks. EVERYONE told me that Angelina's is an embarassment to the town of Ogunquit because of the owner. One waiter told me he used to work there until one night me broke a plate and the owner verbally abused him so badly he quit. What is WRONG with the business owners of this town? A man like this not only needs help, he is hurting tourism! Google the name of the establishment and read the reviews...there are literally dozens of stories just like mine. I'm really sorry to have to write a review like this, but maybe, just maybe, someone will take action and get this poor man the help he needs. For us, we will never patronize any restaurants in this town again.

Just returned from another very satisfying meal at Angelinas and in reading some of the silliness such as "Jaime's". May I suggest returning to Bugaboo Creek and stay away from gourmet Italian. Better yet, golden arches claims to have an Angus burger that is to die for. Go for it, less than ten bucks. My linguine w/red clam sauce was awesome. Wifey had lobster ravioli, we split a Caesar salad with anchovies. Two glasses of wine later and were out 76.00 plus tip for excellent service as usual. This is always a must stop each time we visit Ogunquit.

Full bar.

We started our family vacation off to a great start by dining at Angelina's.The food and service was outstanding. We usually go to the north end in Boston for great italian food but this was every bit as good. Great wine selection.

We did not have reservation, although we should have made one, because even though they were nice enough to let us in, it quickly got busy. I imagine they usually turn people away. It was a nice well-paced meal. Very much like a traditional Italian restaurant with a bit of contemporary additions. Lots of great menu options

Reading some of the negative reviews has me a little shocked. We've been to Angelina's on our last three summer vacations to Ogunquit and have it enjoyed it every time. It's a little pricey but we've always had great food and terrific serivce.

We had a wonderful dinner the other night...off season they have a wonderful dinner special of 3 courses for $60/couple including a bottle of wine...our friends had veal over risotto which they devoured, I had fettucini bolognese and gary had shrimp with angel hair pasta...wonderful choice of 4 gelatos for dessert...we were pleased to see the restaurant almost full in the off season...our server was very amiable but he got that 4 friends hadn't seen each other for awhile and left us to enjoy our meal and catch up...a wonderful evening with good food and friends.

Best restaurant hands down in Ogunquit Fantastic food, wide range of choices on the menu, fantastic service and great wine list!! I've never had a meal I didn't love!! Dining room is lovely and bar is fun to sit at for a drink or meal but I love the patio in the summer

We did not have reservation, although we should have made one, because even though they were nice enough to let us in, it quickly got busy. I imagine they usually turn people away. It was a nice well-paced meal. Very much like a traditional Italian restaurant with a bit of contemporary additions. Lots of great menu options

This is our favorite local restaurant. The food is excellent, the best Italian food north of Boston. Big portions and cooked just right. David, the owner, makes us feel at home. Chris, the head bartender, is very personable and knows his alcohol. I always recommend this restaurant to locals and tourists!

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
