We stopped by for breakfast, today. It was prepared quickly. It was tasty and there was plenty to eat. The service was excellent, as well. I'll go back next time we are in Lusby.

Stopped here the other day for breakfast with the kids....last visit was probably ten years ago. Food was decent but not nearly as good as it was years ago- I'm certain the staff has changed. My daughter got the country breakfast; the home fries were really good but the pancakes were a little underdone and heavy. Watched some other patrons' pancakes come out of the kitchen and theirs looked much better. Portions were average. Saw an order of creamed chipped beef on biscuits come out of the kitchen and regretted not having ordered one for myself. Service was friendly and quick; we sat at the counter. It was warm out and the air-conditioning was struggling to keep the back of the restaurant cool. I'm sure the heat from the kitchen didn't help either. The front of the restaurant was MUCH cooler; will sit there next time. Fairly cheap for breakfast- lunch and dinner are more expensive but still reasonable.

Friendly folks, traditional breakfast food. Definitely a hole in the wall. Extremely greasy. Cleanliness is an issue. If I had visited the bathroom BEFORE eating, my appetite would've been stifled. Seems kinda pricey considering location & atmosphere. Nice folks though!

Very cozy, yummy, breakfast place. My dad showed me this hidden gem in Calvert county one morning when we were searching for a new place to have breakfast. I am a fan and wish I was able to make it over more for breakfast. Very reasonably priced, with a friendly service staff this hole-in-the wall is a must.

We stopped by this place on a whim, and were very impressed by the friendly staff and tasty food. We went back just a few days later before heading home, and again had great food. Both times, we visited for lunch. The first time, I ordered the fried clam basket, and expected the typical clam bits in breading. Not so -- these were true, whole clams under the breading. I've never seen such large fried clams, and they were full of taste. My sister chose the cheesesteak, and it was absolutely delicious. The onions and the roll were both grilled, and full of flavor. On my next visit, the waitress brought out samples of two soups so we could decide. The clam chowder was very good -- creamy, with big chunks of clam and potato. I had the chicken-fried steak, and the steak was tender and flavorful. Both times, my 6-month-old son was with us, and the waitstaff was very accommodating. One waitress even offered to rinse the bowl we'd brought to feed him, so I wouldn't have to bring it home dirty. That was so nice and thoughtful. The prices are reasonable, the food is good, the people are friendly. The only reason why I gave this four and not five times is that the fixtures in the ladies' room desperately need updating. The rust stains are a bit offputting. Nevertheless, I'm looking forward to my next visit.

I've been going to this place with my family since I was very young. It's always been an awesome place to go for breakfast! Every time I come back to visit family I try to stop here for breakfast.

BREAKFAST ONLY! Love this place for breakfast. Nothing beats The Frying Pan in Calvert County! I recommend the country breakfast with a side of corned beef hash - extra crispy. The wait staff is AMAZING and FAST! Lunch/Dinner - not so much.

Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner. The food is always good. My favorite is chipped beef for breakfast, Club sandwich & onion rings for lunch & the crab soup.

A classic american greasy spoon. I have only been for breakfast and even then have only ordered one or two things on the menu. The prices are good and the service is fast. No complaints, but don't expect any frills either.

Best place for breakfast hands down!! Food is always excellent and you might even catch some gossip too.

This is the best place to go for breakfast. Scrambled eggs are real eggs, not eggbeaters and the portions are large.

  • Judy G.

I had really get fried chicken. They must make it to order because they said it would take 20 minutes. It was worth the wait. I will have to go back for breakfast.

We traveled from Orange County, California for a family gathering to celebrate Karsyn's Carnival, a foundation for Down Syndrome, and found our family looking for a breakfast spot before the big day. We were informed by a worker at our hotel about a great breakfast place just down the street. As soon as we walked in, we got that down home feeling that you don't get in orange county and we were greeted by our wonderful waitress Hollie. The food was spectacular and the service was excellent! I definitely suggest the breakfast potatoes (better than any breakfast joint I've been to!). Their omelets were amazing, each one of my family members (I'm one of 6) ordered a different meal and we were very happy with our orders! The food came out in a timely manner and was excellent! We had a wonderful conversation with the owner as we left and we will definitely return to The Frying Pan next time we end up in Maryland! Thank you for the wonderful food and service, you guys are great!

We've only tried the breakfasts there. The breakfast is diner style and very good! The staff is always pleasant. Be there early because they get busy!

Stopped here for breakfast on the way to Solomon's. It's definitely a hole in the wall and a place where locals eat; way better than stopping at a fast food chain. We had the country breakfast -- eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes or grits, and three pancakes -- and corned beef hash and eggs. Huge portions at reasonable prices. The food was very good and the service was friendly but a little slow. It felt a bit like someone's basement, with wood paneling, a bar, and lots of people just hanging out and laughing. All in all a warm and welcoming experience with good food and friendly service.

I've been gone a long time but I am back and I am in my house and I am ready to head to The Frying Pan because yes, it is worth the drive and yes, it is THAT good. Ambiance? Heck yes - it's not a date night (unless you're very comfortable with your sweetie and you aren't out to impress). It's COMFORTABLE and the food is down home and comfortable and homey. No matter when you go or what you get, expect huge portions of tasty, home cooked food. I am thinking I need to head over for the day so I can have breakfast, lunch AND dinner and get my fill -- maybe once a month or so. It is a hidden gem that I have told people about whenever we've had military friends headed to Pax River Maryland for any reason and they have often told me they thought I was crazy UNTIL they got their food and then it became their home away from home too! Run don't walk to Lusby and The Frying Pan; you won't be disappointed.

This place is downright comfortable and always pleases. The servers are friendly and happily make recommendations if asked. For being a tiny place and always packed, we have never had to wait. We usually eat breakfast there on Sundays, but today we tried dinner. The Tuesday special of ham and cabbage was great. My husband tried the cheeseburger - he says it's pretty good and the fries were excellent. We had the friend broccoli and cheese appetizer, also good. No complaints.

By far still my favorite local place. The country breakfast had everything I want and more. The staff is always so friendly and I love to be able to support a mom and pop place like this.

  • Angela B.

I have gotten carry out a lot from this place and have never been disappointed until today. Ordered a crab and cheese omelet, got no cheese and very little crab meat that tasted like it was just taken out of the can. Also got a western omelet that had so much onion it was outrageous and it seemed like they were cut in quarters because the were 5 slices deep and the potatoes were burnt so bad they were inedible. The wait staff is great and always super friendly, just need to fix the can tasting crab meat, cut the onions smaller and make sure the potatoes are edible.

We have some friends that live in the area and we were in the area. We went here and everything was delicious. Its a nice "hole in the wall" spot. A basic menu, no frills, just homestyle cooking. Everything was fast, hot, and delicious! We will be back!

  • David M.

Short stack w/ egg was a very good bfast option. Love the extra onions in the potatoes (just ask).

  • Sarah B.

Very good! It is a basic diner "Hole in the wall" type of place. It's small and somewhat tight inside. Decor isn't great but like I said "Hole in the wall"! Tried the breakfast there, they were fast servicing and most importantly, they kept the coffee coming! Very affordable. Friendly staff and very good food. We will be back for sure!

Good old fashioned county dinner. Food gets to the table hot and just as I ordered it. Great for breakfast and lunch.

This is a place for locals--I noticed it on a long bike ride--the parking lot was full and judging by who I saw this was not the weekenders (like me). That's where I want to eat! That night I took the family and we all pigged out. There is everything from fried foods, typical diner fare and some down home options. Everyone's meal was fresh cooked and well done. I had pot roast. The ony complaint was that it needed some salt and pepper, but otherwise was good. A HUGE portion that was sandwiches for two days of work the next week. Our group had some home cooked pan fried chicken that was delicious. It really was a great meal and very good service. It is always nice to support a local place (n a world full of chain restaurants.

Appearance= definitely a locals place aka a hole in the wall but don't those usually have the best food? Service= friendly but a tad slow (it was pretty packed) Portions= huge Food= pretty tasty

  • Amy R.

This place is exactly what it looks like from the outside- a dive. The food is ok. I had the pancakes which were good. My only complaint is that the place is kind of dirty- the bathroom stinks and there are tons of flies in the window.

  • Amanda B.

It's a perfect small town diner with that old country feel. Breakfast is what you would expect, simple and comforting staple items that warm you up and fill you up before heading out hunting or some other adventure. Place was packed with locals... They must be doing something right. :) The staff is friendly beyond compare, everybody behind the counter seems to know and like one another which keeps the atmosphere quite positive. :) I believe Holly was my waitress and she was amazing, prompt, efficient, and most of all possessing a quality smile and concern for each individual. You can either sit at one of the many tables or at the high bar in the back which was where I chose to perch myself. Definitely got a good feel for the place, lots of great conversations happening all around me, I just liked it.

Love this place! Definitely order the Maryland Crab Soup! Very salty though but some of the best in Calvert!

  • Jason F.

Only giving this place 2 stars because it was cheap. Came here for breakfast. I got the french toast with a side of bacon and my girlfriend got the pancakes with a side of bacon. The french toast was easily the worst I've ever had and the pancakes were very doughy. Not sure how you can screw up simple breakfast items. Bacon was decent at least. My other friend enjoyed her creamed chip beef. Service was good enough. The waitress was smart enough to give us a pitcher of iced tea. The place has a charming run down look to it.

Oh where, oh where do I start?... Well, what happens when you are in a small town, hungry & looking for a place to fill your belly. You trust your fellow Yelpers and decide to stop in at The Frying Pan for a New Year's Day breakfast. I have to admit when I first arrived, I was a little taken back by the rustic curb appeal but knew that the food must surely offset the modest nature of the eatery based on the 4-star rating. Never judge a book .... right? Inside is just simple with southern comfort. The walls are covered with vintage (circa 1950-1960s) water color paintings in what looks like its original framing. Low ceilings, 1970s natural wood walls & '70s vinyl tile flooring. It all adds to the appeal.. The menu is a no frills basic one-pager breakfast menu. A short stack of 2 with home fries is $3.99 & the service g was generous. The pancakes were airy and melted in my mouth.. Turkey sausage tasted homemade with a hint of sage & other seasonings I can't readily recall. Although the oj was not freshly squeezed, it tasted like the oranges just came from a tree in sunny Florida. The service was adequate but their was one waitress serving 10+ tables so you can't blame her for looking a bit frazzled. She was however pleasant, responsive and attentive. It was impressive that the owner came over to our table to see how our meal was and the experience. I was impressed because this usually happens in a 4 or 5 star restaurant not a small town restaurant/diner. What a nice touch.... Thank you fellow Yelpers, you were on point with this restaurant recommendation. The Frying Pan is small time goodness with no pomp and circumstance however; with Real food, Real folks and Real good..

I'm on the area visiting for work. With 40+ reviews and 4+ starts, I thought this works be a good place for dinner. Famous last words. I ordered the specials of the day, crab soup and baked chicken. The soup was a salty mismatched stew, and it tasted like last week's takeout. The baked chicken was totally uninspired, more boiled than baked, and tasteless, except for a bit of a funny flavor at times. Decent coffee, and the whole experience was cheap. I don't care how many yelp stars this place has, I'm never coming back.

This lovely little place is right next to Calvert Cliffs. As the name describes, stuff here is fried. A bunch. But: you know that going in, and it's very tasty food. I got the pulled pork in an attempt to be healthy and my friend got the fried fish sandwich. We were delighted with our meal and the waitstaff was uber friendly. Definitely the best choice for a tasty, down-to-earth, local meal by the park.

Always great food here!!! Seafood soup (MD crab) off the hook..I think the best I've had. Cheeseburger sub was delish. Ever in Lusby, do yourself a favor..stop in, you won't be disappointed.

What can I say about The Frying Pan? Let's say it's as if you were from the south and your Momma made the food, sorry Momma it's good food. It's great homestyle cooking the way you want it. My wife and I went there for breakfast while down in Solomon's. We found it on Yelp and we're glad we did. I ordered the creamed chipped beef (S.O.S.) and my wife ordered the eggs with potatoes and biscuit. Both meals were delivered quickly and the taste was great. Next time down I can't wait to try their dinner.

What's not to like? Lived in Calvert three years and finally got to the Frying Pan. It was great. Pancakes are fluffy with a good chew, omelette was full of chunks of tasty ham, great hash browns (a flavorful mix of mashed and cubes with a crispy sear) - ample portions served on MCM uranium orange triangular plates! Fast, courteous service and great coffee too. This place is local so filled with nice folks and a little worn around the edges which just adds to the color.

We went there 2 times a couple months apart. Not impressed. It smelled funny first of all. We had no idea the first time if we had to wait to be seated or seat ourselves. Wait staff said nothing just walked by us. So we sat down. The pancakes were tough and cold. Prices are okay though. We prefer IHOP for breakfast. The 2nd time we were there for lunch. Still smelled and french fries were cold. The BLT was good though. We won't go back again.

I have eaten at The Frying Pan several times with my family. The food is tasty and the service is always friendly. The locals eat here. The atmosphere is that of a small town, family run, hole in the wall comfort food restaurant. I have heard that the breakfasts are really great. I have also heard that they make really good biscuits. However I think they are only available on the weekends. I can't wait to eat there on Saturday morning. We have been to The Frying Pan for dinner only. It is never crowded at that time. I highly recommend getting the fried chicken. It is a half of a small chicken. The skin was soo good and crunchy while the meat was nice and moist. It came with two sides. I ordered the fries and green beans. The green beans were good but the fries were limp and soggy. Don't get the fries, get any other side. The last time we ate there I ordered the fried seafood platter. It came with a big piece of fish, a good sized crab cake, shrimp, scallops and sides. It was a lot of food and it was all cooked well. My wife ordered the pork chops. They were good but small in size. My son got the kids wing-dings and apple sauce. He's a picky eater and he ate everything. The apple sauce was really good. I think it was homemade. It wasn't the same consistency as jarred apple sauce it was chunky and delicious. I Definitely recommend The Frying Pan! Get the fried chicken! (Stay away from the fries)

Exactly what you'd want and expect from a southern style diner - friendly waitress, colorful locals, and heaps of delicious food. You following the paleo lifestyle, look elsewhere, but if you want a cheap and tasty breakfast this is your spot. We ordered eggs, home potatoes, bacon and sausage - all were good, and the total bill was under 20 dollars. Best of all, its a five minute drive from Calvert Cliffs, making it a perfect spot for before or after a visit to the park.

Visiting Lusby for a family wedding and staying with my brother in Dowell. We decide to go get breakfast before taking a walk around Solomons. I told him...I want a hole-in-the-wall type of place that the locals eat at...not a chain. He knows just the place...The Frying Pan. He is a regular there and they know him. Basic breakfast food, just what I wanted. Filled up and ready to take on the heat and humidity of Solomons. I will probably come here for breakfast at least once more during this visit. A gem!

Service was excellent -friendly and personal ; despite arriving close to the end of the dinner serving hour, Chef Billy made delicious garlic parmesium croutons just for me !! Most appreciated !!

I read the reviews on Yelp and knew this was the place to fuel up before a long day in the the cold drizzle while fossil hunting. We seated ourselves at the counter in the back. Service was immediate. I ordered the breakfast combo with turkey sausage and my son got eggs with potatoes. The hot sauce is Texas Pete's. Tip: There is a side door from the parking lot that leads right to the counter.

Old fashioned little eatery. Not too far off of the highway and well worth the detour if you are passing by. We had breakfast, excellent rub on the steak for steak and eggs. We also had a short stack with an egg and potatoes. Delicious. Nothing against iHop but I prefer the breakfast we had here. BTW, where else can you get "scrapple"? They do server lunch and dinner. The menu had good home-style meals and seafood.

After a night of drinking this is the place for breakfast! This place gets 5 stars for three reasons: 1. Always helps my hangovers 2. Food and service is always great 3. Owner sold me both his smoke eaters for $40 I love this place!

Based on other's reviews I drove in from DC for breakfast. So, based on those other's reviews, let's assume they were having an off morning. Because if I were writing just based on this one visit my rating would be a solid 2-stars. Why do I not agree with everyone's 4/5-star raves? First: The grits were not good. They were lumpy and tasted pasty, as if thickened with flour. Second: If an over easy egg yolk breaks on the flat-top, cook another egg. Don't finish cooking the broken egg until it is hard and then try to hide it under the other over easy. (Tisk-tisk) That said, there was some greatness to the meal. The scrapple was perfect. Thick cut and fried to a hard crunch on both sides with a soft middle. (Extra points for the scrapple) The service was as described by others. The atmosphere too, as described in other reviews. Very 'hole in the wall'. It's only about an hour drive from the DC beltway. But unfortunately this visit wasn't great enough to bring me back. As I said in the beginning of this review, hopefully this was just an off morning. So hopefully your experience will be 5-star. Also, I was only there for breakfast so maybe other times would be better. If you are in the area, and don't want a chain, don't pass by The Frying Pan based on my one so-so review. It is still a great little place. It just wasn't that great today.

  • Robert S.

For what it is (to me), this place is a great place to go for breakfast. No frills, no fuss, usually no problem getting a seat and very quick acknowledgment by a staff member and relatively good prices, especially considering that just about everything in the Lusby Town Center/Solomons Island area is way overpriced. The decor ain't much and it's a bit dark and dingy, but this place seems to be an apropos stop for one of those days after a long night out on the town or when you don't want to go get ripped off at one of the other places in the area. Quick in and quick out and a pleasant time; plain and simple.

  • Scotto B.

Tasty crab cakes and sea scallops - salad itself was just ok, but the home made dressing was fantastic. Prices are very reasonable - very rustic / mom & pop atmosphere. Friendly servers - still a smoking establishment, but that will end on 2/1/2008, due to Maryland law.

Great breakfast, we go often on weekends. Much faster than local fast food joints, better food for the money and relaxed family atmosphere!

Had breakfast here with my husband on a Sunday morning. Make sure you get there early or you'll wait in line. The food was great. Diner style, fresh, and big portions. Service was good. Nice waitstaff. The building has seen better days. But you don't come here for the decorum. Better food than a Denny's, less atmoshpere than a Waffle House.

  • Juliet F.

Very cozy atmosphere, and you get good portions for what you pay. I'm not a fan of the well water (that's what you get if you ask for water) but everything else is good. Small menu but given the size of the place, seems appropriate.
