So I'm a fan of the Wheaton location and I love all food from the sea. When I learned that Seafood in the Buff was in Germantown I had to order some crabs. The crabs are good, the medium and large males that is. I like regular seasoning, nothing more, nothing less. Note: this is a food truck. All of the other options I wouldn't recommend. None of the shrimp are peeled or deveined and they're over priced. Prices are crazy during the holidays so avoid them. Otherwise the crabs are good, fresh, fairly priced and well cooked. Be sure to grab a beer and enjoy.

My family and I had been getting crabs from here for years. A couple weeks ago, we went and got our standard half bushel and unfortunately they were mushy and inedible. We tried to eat some of them to have a positive outlook, thinking that some might be okay, but ultimately attempted to return them -- thinking we'd get at least some empathy as a loyal customer. What we got was the exact opposite. The woman running the stand acted like a lunatic -- started screaming at my father that we were "insulting her intelligence and she wasn't an idiot." I was in the background on the phone trying to reason with her and she started screaming at me also and eventually hung up. The whole thing was both odd and sad but needless to say, we are done with this place forever.

I've purchased crabs from this truck for a couple of years now. They've always been good until now. Purchased 1.5 dozen large for $74... they were OVERCOOKED. I don't eat crab mush so I was very disappointed. I thought about driving back and attempting to get a refund or fresh batch but based on the experiences I've read on here, I would have been wasting my time. Very hard to find consistently good crabs in my area.

We've been getting our crabs here for a little over 3 years now, and they have always been great. But today we got 2 dozen and every single one of them were mushy. Knowing that even the best places mess up from time to time, we chalked it up to a bad day. We have always been happy with their service in the past, so my wife decided to call to inform them of our experience so that they would be aware of a possible issue. However, instead of saying "thank you for letting us know", the lady on the other end of the phone yelled at my wife, blamed her, then hung up on her. When I tried calling back, the phone was either off the hook or answered and then immediately hung up. Needless to say, we will never get crabs from this place again.

Have gotten good crabs here but will boycott this place based on service alone. I have tried in the past to pre-order. They always deny the pre-order. I don't think they trust that people will actually come and pay. Latest service debacle: I dropped by on a Fri evening. I asked when they opened. I was told 10:00. I repeatedly asked will there be large crabs ready to be steamed if I get there at 10:00? I was assured they would be. I needed to take them to an event. I got there at 10:15. NObody was there. I called the crabby lady and she said things happen on the road she can't guarantee when the crew gets there but they were on their way. I explained that I was assured that the crabs would be there and ready to steam at 10:00. She screamed that she does not control traffic. While I was on the phone with her the crew finally showed up (now about 10:30). The same guy that I had talked to the night before said he would have my crabs in "a few min." I asked him how he could get them done in a few minutes when they didn't even have anything heating up. He kept repeating that it would be just a few min. Hogwash. I refused. Go to Cameron's in Rockville instead.

I've been here several times. The crabs are hit or miss and I've never gotten a full bag of crabs here that was 90% good. Basically, the amount of crabs with soggy pasty meat varies each time I go. I'm not sure why this is, it is probably because your are getting previously cooked crabs that are being reheated for you, but I don't really know. If you go up to a seafood restaurant like May's in Frederick, you will order crabs and every one will be cooked perfect...a hard shell that you crack open to find perfectly cooked meat. Crabs are ridiculously expensive these days, you should not have to deal with half of your bag being throw-aways. Every time I go I ask for fresh cooked crabs, they always claim they are fresh, and I always get some soggy results. My advice would be to buy them live and steam them yourself at home. If not, insist that she is throwing uncooked blue/green crabs into the pot...watch her. That said, I do appreciate having a local option for fresh seafood just down the road. It is a nice resource even if crab prices are so very high right now. I like that they have corn, even though the corn is usually soggy also, it's still nice to get some sides with your crabs. It'd be nice if I could just buy an unsorted bushel of live crabs, like the ones sitting out front. They don't sell them that way. Give me a full bushel and let me deal with a mix of sizes that I cook and sort myself. That seems a little more authentic to me. As crabs are so expensive you may be steered to the "medium/regulars" and you will find they are tiny! One upside is that this location is right next to their restaurant, Capt. Mori's. You can buy crabs here and then walk across the parking lot and eat them on Mori's deck with cold beer service! That's a nice plus.

I love shady shady shady food joints. I mean, what's better then good eats with the fear of death via food poisoning as the special sauce to spice up the meal? Enter: Seafood in the Buff, a truck parked in the semi-abandoned parking lot of some semi-abandoned shack on 355, as one heads up to Germantown. Our first experience was three years ago. For our rehersal dinner, my husband and I opted to host a crab feast for our families. He called ahead to order 2 bushels of crabs (one male for his family - who are caucasian and prefer the meatiness of male crabs, and one female for my family who love the rich fatty bright orange roe). An hour before the dinner, he heads to the truck to pick up our order...and they had no idea what he was talking about. Eh. However, they quickly recovered and was able to steam up two bushel for him immediately, but it did put us about 45 minutes behind (which caused a near riot by my family who does *not* believe in waiting for food). Our most recent experience was much better. It was a lovely long weekend Monday and we were in the mood for crustaceans. Not feeling like driving out to our usual crab haunts in Annapolis, we came up to Seafood in the Buff and ordered some crabs. They were large, heavy, meaty and so delicious! Definitely hit the spot. Clearly, this is basically a "food truck" so there isn't any seating - you have to grab the crabs and go (so be sure you have crab mallets at hhome). Also know that no one working here speaks more then 3 words of English. So if you plan on getting into an indepth discussion about how much/little of the Old Bay seasoning you would like on the crabs (like my beloved husband tried to do)...just...don't. Just go without the seasoning and put it on when you get home. Really. Not worth the confused look on their faces (also, pro-tip: speaking LOUDER and sllllllloooooooooower doesn't make them understand English any better). Heh. All in all, a great place to get good crabs cheap and fast. Sure it's a little sketchy buying crabs from the back of a truck, but doesn't the danger make those crabs taste so much better?!

0 stars!!!!!!!!!!!!! This place should be shut down... Horrible horrible crabs!! Omggggggggggggg words cannot describe!!! The crab people or the ones inside the truck are like sly foxes that will try to sell you anything... the crabs had a weird fishy smell... not the kind from the bay more like foul and like hello!!! Im stale and past my freshness date...For some reason they always run out and have the small crabs.but claim they are large.. The crabs were flavorless, dry and overcooked...or reheated... As a Marylander I would be pissed if I was served this crap. Im very serious about my crabs. Dont get me started on the corn... How can you mess up corn? Easy, being cheap and serve your guests old corn. Yuck!! The seafood clearly sounds like they are cooked in the buff cause its just nasty. Go to Atlantic or Camerons to get some real crabs and not this hot mess.

I preordered 4 dozen large crabs. I spoke to the owner Morrie. He assured me that it would not be a problem. Call in morning to confirm. I called in the morning and spoke with this women in charge who also said that the large would be avaiable. I explained it was fathers day and I HAD PEOPLE COMING FROM OUT OF TOWN. I told this women that I would be there to pick them up at 6pm. I get there and this woman lies and said she told me first come first serve. I was paying $240 for the 4 dozen. They lie, cheat and steal from the people. they put yesterday cooked crabs in your new order, STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS FROM THIS TRUCK AS YOU CAN SEE THE FLIES AND THE CONDITONIN WHICH THE CRABS ARE KEPT. THE HEALTH DEPT WILL BE PAYING THEM A VISIT. The ladies name is Seri and I watched them put little crabs on the bottom and bigger one on top. They are a true ripoff.

This place is a hit or miss (and more times than not, its a miss). I always want a place locally that stocks big & fresh crabs, without having to drive all the way to the waterfront. I've come here a couple of times; sometimes their decent, others the entire batch was bad. This last time, I asked for a dozen large female crabs. She started putting orange (which means they were previously cooked) crabs into a big steam pot. I asked if they were fresh and she turns and says yes. I also ordered corn on the side. The corn was old and mushy and the crabs were tiny for a "large" and some tasted old (yes, you can clearly taste old in "fresh" seafood). For $40, this was a total rip off. You may as well go to an all-you-can-eat-crab place or go to the waterfront.

What brought us here (Germantown location): We drive by this place all of the time. I said to my husband, "You know that shady crab place we drive by all of the time? Let's try it!" My middle name is "adventure" ;). What we got - Part 1: Taste-test: Half dozen (6+1) regular-sized female crabs, steamed with no seasoning Review: All crab meat was moist and had great favor. Shells were easy to peel, not "soggy", if you know what I mean. For those of you who don't like eating crab eggs or find it weird/gross, read no further. First few had no eggs and we wondered if the place had given us males. But no fear, the last few were packed with crab eggs :D. The place gets an extra bonus because the eggs were moist. Verdict: Worthy of sharing the experience with our family...see below... What we got - Part 2: Bushel of regular-sized crabs - all female. Review: Came STEAMING hot! When you go to pick up, remember to bring oven mitts and some plastic bags or something to line your trunk with. My car still smells like crab two days later ;). All 10 of us agreed that crab meat was fresh, moist, and eggs were delicious and plentiful. Maybe there were 1 or 2 that didn't quite measure up, but that's pretty low percentage considering we went through at least 5 dozen. We had PLENTY of leftovers for everyone to take home at least 5-6 crabs. Verdict: A resounding YES, PLEASE TRY THIS PLACE IF YOU LOVE CRAB. This is definitely our go-to for freshly steamed crabs in the future.

This is the easiest place to get them to go. It is just a truck you walk up to and they are just about ready to go. They didn't have the biggest crabs but they were delicious and reasonably priced. We cant go to Maryland without getting a few dozen crabs:)
