Eastern Kabob & Sweets Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

I love this place. It has been my regular stop for home cooked cravings since living in the DMV. They do the not-so-typical-Indo/Pakistani foods I grew up on very well. I am talking bhindi, kadhi pakora, saag, beef haleem, halwa puri. It certainly is not a sit down spot if you want ambiance or decor, or heck even service. Get in, get/eat your food, get out.

Eastern Kabobs is a bare basics restaurant concentrating on a very few things. I didn't agree on several of the main courses there. I had their kabobs twice and it was very plain. It wasn't like their kabobs were bad. But it was average. Here's mye spec good and bad list: Good: Price was pretty decent Bread was crisp and chewy. Cons: Ground Beef kabobs was way too under spiced. lacked alot of the grilled taste. Boneless Chicken was not dry however, again, it was way too bland. Buffet Food looks very dried. Perhaps they should bring out less and review often. I'll go back and try their goat haleem. Not alot of places can do it. I ony know of one place and that is at Kabob Palace.

The tandoori chicken is delicious! Not to mention the portions are a good size. Since it is so good, I have yet to try something else. I am going to have to convince myself tp venture in during the lunch buffet.

I liked the food. We got the butter chicken, chicken kabob, samosas and daal maharani. Everything was tasty but I thought that the chicken kabob would be chicken on a skewer, not a sausage-esque thing. We spent about $45, so I thought it was a little pricey for what we got. We will definitely be back, though - it's the closest Indian restaurant to us. From what I've read, they really need a makeover inside (someone picked the food up).

We recently got some takeout. We got Tandoori Chicken, Mutton Biryani and Kadhai Paneer. The chicken and biryani smelled and tasted at least 3-4 days old. I have never eaten Kadhai Paneer that tasted like it did, like it was actually the same standard masala with pieces of paneer dropped in, but at least it didn't taste old. That's about it, that's the only good thing that can be said about it. We even picked up some sweets, and I think they probably aren't able to sell those either because they tasted at least a week old. We will not go back, the worst 40 bucks we ever spent (yes, that's how expensive it was !!!)

Beware that certain dishes here have bones with the meat. I even asked them once if they could make a chicken karahi dish without the bones, and they refused! But even if they did remove the bones for me, it wouldn't have tasted very good, because it was chicken breast meat that was very dry. There was also a chicken kabob dish that I ordered, and let me tell you, the meat was not chicken. I'm not sure what it was, but it wasn't chicken. The curry sauces that they serve with the dishes taste very good - nice and spicy, but unfortunately it doesn't make up for the negatives that I mentioned above.

We absolutely love this place. It is definitely a hole in he wall and we're glad we tried it. Food and desserts are excellent especially for the price. The lamb rice biryani is really good. They did screw up our togo order once and I had to drive back to get it right.

I don't know how is place functions as a restaurant but the catering was splendid. For my niece's 1st bday party, my cousin ordered Samosas, Veg Biryani, Mutton (Goat) Biryani, Chicken Curry, Malai Kofta, and mixed vegetable curry. I'm not a fan of eating boned chicken anymore cause it's difficult to take the meat of the bone. Some say that's the best part of it but much of the time, I beg to differ. The kofta is amazing and both biryanis are really good. I liked the veg biryani even more than the mutton biryani. Samosas were decent as well and the mixed vegetables was delicious. Great place to cater!

My favorite here is the Goat Karahi and rice. always cooked to perfection with the right gravy and spices.

Just about the best kabab place around. My wife and i always get the eastern special with extra chitney and cholay. Food is always delicious and maintains its quality. Their goat biriyani is also very good and worth a try. You can't go wrong with this place!

This is a very low key restaurant. The sign outside is pretty plain and it's next to a liquor store. You're not expecting much. Going inside and ordering the food however is far from ordinary. First and foremost the times my friends and I go there it's usually rather empty. It's a very spacious place so on top of it being empty at certain times you have your pick of seats. Food wise the goat karahi is my favorite item on the menu. When you order it you can ask them to make it extra spicy and they will happily comply. It's very flavorful, it doesn't skip on the goat and it's not excessively oily like other places. For me it's a home run. Also a bit of a quiet star on the menu is the naan. They only have one type of naan and that's just fine. It's perfect as is. The butter chicken and chicken karahi are great as well but Eastern Kabob is the only place where I can get goat karahi which is something I get a strong urge for every now and then. Everyone there is super friendly as are the other customers. Every now and then you see an old man there inviting you to play him at chess. It's pleasant place. It's no wonder I keep going back.

Eastern Kabob & Sweets is nestled in a small plaza off of Wisteria Drive (across from the Lotte Plaza). They offer items such as samosas, aloo, chat papri, curries, kabobs, biryani, vegetarian options, as well as weekend/daily specials (Monday: chicken curry, aloo palak; Tuesday: lamb curry, daal maharani; Wednesday: kofta curry with eggs, okra masala, fish masala; Thursday: aloo keema, curry pakora, malai kofta; and, Friday: palak gosht, aloo gobhi, chicken charga). They also have daily lunch buffets and carry-out options and catering services. My husband and I shared the Boneless Chicken Tikka Masala - these had some good chunks of white chicken meat; the sauce was extremely tomato-based, which was sort of unexpected. The entree comes with a choice of either steamed basmati rice or naan; we chose to do both. I like how the meals come in a to-go container, so if you have any leftovers, you can just pack up and be on your way. You pay at the end of the meal; the staff were very friendly and nice, and there are plenty of seatings available. It was nice to check out this little hole-in-the-wall joint out, and I would love to try out their samosas and the chicken karahi next time I'm in the area. +friendly staff! +meals come in a to-go container for convenience

This is a hole in the wall. Which, if anyone knows good Desi food, that's the style restaurant you want. When you walk in, it isn't highly decorated. Very simple place. Plenty of seating and very nice staff. Also, this place is clean. It doesn't smell overly powering of Desi food when you walk in the door. Tables are wiped down after a guest leaves. Fast service, even if it wasn't...food like this is worth the wait. If you live ANYWHERE near 270, you need to go here. Chaat Papri - crunchy papri, superbly spiced (just the right a mouth of sweet and heat) Aloo Tikki Chaat - FRESH FRIED ALOO TIKKI, you can taste when it's microwaved. This...is not. Chicken Seekh Kabob - fresh, served with naan (freshly made), chickpeas (firm, nice spice) and rice (not over-cooked).

  • Hibah S.

I like their Eastern Kabob Special as well as their seekh kabob and goat karahi. The naan is not that impressive... I've had better. The customer service is good considering there's usually high school or college aged kids running the register. I've probably never seen anybody older than 25. Maybe they stay in the back, but the kids in the front are always well mannered and seem to know what they're doing. Some constructive criticism though... I usually order for pickup instead of eat in the actual restaurant because 1) it's not very nicely decorated and 2) they serve things in paper plates and styrofoam cups. I wouldn't mind those things much if it wasn't so expensive. The food is very pricey. I think if you're gonna make the prices that high, at least give guests real silverware.

I have been to Eastern Kabab several times and they have never disappointed...try the aloo tikki/samosa chaat! Best desi food spot in Maryland

Now, now, now. For those who want great cousin, this is the place. Love this place and have been coming here for the past 5 years. The sweets are too die for. The dishes are authentic and tasty. Surely it takes longer when you want fresh and good food. This is what this place does. Recommend that you call ahead if you know what you want or you can hang out and talk crap while you wait for your food. Worth the time and patient.

Had been meaning to come here for years and finally got the chance on the way to Frederick. Ordered the chaat paapri and it was very good. Also got CTK and it probably the best CTK that I've had in the DC area. Naan was okay, have had better. Would definitely recommend.

Every time I here. I ALWAYS get the samosa chat and chicken tiika masala.. It always hits the spot for me. Great costumer service and very friendly.. I have been coming here for years now.

Oh Eastern Kabob... how I adore thee! The hallmark of a great eatery is not the ambiance, its THE FOOD! and EKS gets it right all the time! Takeout has become a weekly habit for us and the owner is always nice, helpful and serves with a smile! During Ramadan, we given a plate of pakodas, samosas and aloo tikki on the house! The Shining Stars: 1. Paapri Chaat-- DO NOT PASS THIS UP! The paapri (fried tortilla strips) are always fresh and crispy, the chutneys are tangy sweet and spicey, and the ingedients always fresh. 2. Chicken Seeth Kabob -- Stop. Do not pass GO. Do not collect $200 EKS is THE PLACE for CSK (See Washington Post review if you don't believe me!). fresh, spicy, falls apart in your mouth and not in your hands (yes, like M&Ms but better!). 3. Chicken Biryani -- read my words carefully.. NOT OILY. you know you have authentic punjabi biryani when you're NOT left with heartburn at 3am and a film of oil on your tongue. beautifully cooked rice wit pungent spices and well seasoned fresh chicken. If these 3 things (of the many I've tried) don't have you running for EKS, I don't know what will! The Falling Stars: no place is without issues, and EKS heed my advice. 1. A refrigerated section of water jugs (ohh don't I know this well from other indian/pakistani places) wouldn't be amiss. 2. MORE PAAPRI CHAAT! This should actually be #1. One cannot imagine the disappointment one feels when one calls for Paapri Chaat takeout, only to be told that EKS is out of paapri! 3. Spice it up a bit more -- i'm one of the few that loves my food spicy! don't be shy EKS! pile it on! 4. Open another location (with the same cook please!) In Bethesda!

I have mixed views about this place because I have been there many there times. Sometimes the food is awesome and on other occasions, you wonder why you bothered to come. I wish they would remain consistent with their cooking.

My family was in the area Friday night so we stopped in for sit down dinner. We ordered a variety of dishes including chicken and goat which were delicious. We also had some appetizers. This is not white table cloth restaurant - it is a casual, Styrofoam plates and plastic knives and forks kind of place. However, the very tasty food and notably friendly service made up for the disposable plates. We will no doubt be back to enjoy another meal sometime.

They catered my wedding in Arlington VA and the food was off the chain! Nadeem (owner) is such a nice guy! Hotel was short staffed and the caterers still went out of their way. Great food, environment, awesome owner - fantastic restaurant! :)

  • Nicky P.

if you ask for spicy, prepare to die. if you ask for mild, you will cry a little. Nevertheless, the lunch buffet is off the chain! WOOH! The butter chicken is not too shabby. Chicken Biryani is good if you like it spicy, deathlike spicy. Don't forget to add the extra sauce!!

  • Brenda B.

I go here for takeout not the ambience. I've had the hamburger kabobs but my absolute favorite is the chicken tandoori platter that comes with rice, chickpeas and wonderful naan. A really good place, friendly folks and excellent food at a bargain rate.

  • Rehman K.

We really enjoy the food here. The food at the buffet is usually excellent and they will add more if you're pushy. Said buffet is an excellent deal. I love their weekend specials like nehari. Lamb chops are very tasty. The food is typical Lahori food. My family orders tandoori often but we don't get the normal platter. Tell them you want a tray of chicken only to avoid the naan (unless it's fresh and you're eating there, don't eat any restaurant's naan), chickpeas (consider these refried beans) and the white rice. Desserts do not disappoint. Don't be attracted by the bright colors. Go for the tans, dark oranges and browns. That is where the serious flavor/sugar is at!

This place isn't bad. The food's not half bad, the service's decent and the portion's pretty good. They also serve daily lunch buffet; great way to try a lot of their dishes. Eastern Special ($13.99) - 2 Champ (Lamb Chops), 3 Chicken Tikka, 3 Chicken Tandoori, 2 Naan and Yogurt. The Lamb Chops are absolutely delicious; it's 1 of the better lamb chops I've tried. It's tender and very flavorful. The rest of the meat's just ok. This dish's pretty big, so it'll definitely fill you up. Samosa: Pastry with savory filling such as potatoes, peas, onions, etc. This comes with 2 dipping sauce. It's just ok, it wasn't fresh. It's pretty cold when I got it so I probably would not get this again. P.S.: If you do end up ordering the Eastern Special, it will take them good 20-25 minutes to prepare.

Oh, Eastern Kabob...how I crave your kabobs DAILY. I would not suggest this place for anyone looking for ambiance. The disposable wares and decor does leave a lot to be desired. HOWEVER, the food is spectacular. I recommend the lamb chops and the chappli kabobs. They are phenomenal (although the chappli are greasy). The flavors rival those of kabobs from back home and the portions are decent. Unfortunately, they really do need to do a lot of work on the business aspect of their restaurant. They've been out of lamb chops for weeks now (and the lamb tikka is not a suitable replacement) and the last time we went they didn't even have chutney :( It makes my trips to Eastern Kabob a little sad. Still, there's a special place in my heart for this place and I really hope they keep pushing forward. Those kabobs are that good.

  • Madhu S.

Simple take out and you could possibly sit in and eat. Ordered samosas and they were good. The chutneys could improve (watery) . The shahi panner, chicken tikka masala, tandoori chicken are good. The buffet is reasonable and would return when am around area.

  • David K.

Spicy! Lets just get that out of the way up front. My oldest isn't so fond of the spicy, so we got her the "Butter Chicken" and even it had some spiciness to it. However, if you like the spicy? Oh man do they serve it up well. Excellent Biriyani, and if nothing ever seems spicy enough, get the Karahi, sooooo spicy. Place takes a while, as everything is cooked to order, so calling ahead isn't a bad idea. Kababs are great too, and they seem to have some sort of chaat selection, but I've never gotten that. Samosa, pakoras, all good. Bread is excellent.

Loved this small strip mall/mom & pop restaurant! We just moved to this area from Northern Virginia and have started to venture out to find our go-to restaurants. And I have to say this is going to be our go-to restaurant for Pakistani food from now on. We found this restaurant through yelp and decided to dine in for our first time. The restaurant itself is plain and bare, what you would expect from a strip mall-type restaurant. I think they do more carry-outs than dine-ins. Anyway, we ordered lamb biryani and butter chicken, both of which were delicious. We are so looking forward to going back SOON to try the other things on the menu.

The hubs and I were hungry and wanted to try something new. So we did. Okay when entering the restaurant...Its no Taj Mahal or 5 star experience.. Though the decor is very very sad... In fact its calling Mr. Robert Irvine..The dude from Restaurant Impossible. The tables are chairs is as basic as it can get. The tables, chairs and floor were very dirty. The tables looked as if it hasnt been washed in decades... Seems like they just brush the crumbs off the table on to the floor. Yuck. I even mentioned it to cashier and she chirped, " The tables over there are clean". I was like I know that genius. I was trying to throw a hint that someone should go and wipe down the tables and chairs with a bleach solution. So we changed our plans and had our meals to go. This place could use a lot more help and the help of Mr. Robert Irvine. The Food: Breads: Naan is on point. Very fresh and hot as in temperature wise. Their garlic naan was sooooooo good. The breads would go so well with Tskiski sauce..that sauce that is served at Persian restaurants. Rice is sooo tasty and very flavorful. They fall right off the fork.. No sticky rice here! Tandoori Chicken is sooooooooo flavorful and tasty. No dry chicken here! Lamb Shanks. Sooooooooo so well seasoned and cooked well. My hubs ordered kabobs and was disappointed as it was nothing like a Kabob not even on a stick or like at the other kabob places. Foodwise the food is good. A little bit pricy and small portions like the other poster wrote but I had a coupon so it didnt hurt my wallet. If you are planning take out order ahead of time. If you do decide to stay and eat. Bless you, cause I couldnt stomach looking at dirty tables and food being left on the ground and not picked up. Sadly, I was very turned off by the cleanliness of the store. The service is slow because they are very busy.

I went to this restaurant for the first time yesterday with some friends. The food was outstanding. You could tell that it is authentic and they use high quality ingredients. The atmosphere was fantastic, they really made me feel at home. I will definitely be returning very soon. Highly recommended!

Cheap eats alert! And it's the real deal! This place is so low key, hidden in a strip mall, hardly any decor inside, but they put out some mean, awesome food. My first time was through some carry-out some relatives ordered. I thought it was good, not great, but there's a difference from some restaurants where you get carry-out vs eating in. I recall getting the chicken karahi but the spices and goodness weren't all there (vs another food cart out in Ballston, search my review). The lady's tandoori chicken and butter chicken were subpar, as I've had better. Onto the good ... I told myself the next time I eat from here is to go here. Pops and I walk in and I kind of had an uh oh moment. Foam plates, plastic utensils, a water cooler, self-serve fridge of high fructose corn syrup, empty tables, white walls with a painting or three. We're here now, so let's do this. This spot is so gangster, why label your foods on the buffet line? I'm serious because another time I went, same result, zippy labels. Being as adventurous as I am with food, I was excited. So I wish I really could tell you want the heck I ate, but I honestly don't know any names of the dishes, well a few. On the bright side, each item consumed was pure goodness. The one memorable dish was very similar to a chicken karahi, but it was so spicy it had me sweating and in tears, love it. I went back for thirds and fourths, I think the pops and I finished the tray, honestly. Another notable dish was haleem, which that day was goat. The meat was shredded, slow cooked in lentils and beans and spices that were very subtle. It was a nice balance with the sweat chicken I was eating. For their lunch buffet, it's $7.99 and it's well worth it. Grab as many foam plates of food as you want and truly enjoy food that isn't labeled because it's good!!! In addition, I've gotten carry-out and it's $7.99/lb, still worth it. Go light on the rice though and load up on their naan, it weights less. Definitely a go-to spot for me, but like I've said, I had a better experience with going to their buffet.

I came here for dinner with my parents. The place is in the rundown strip mall and isn't the most aesthetically pleasing establishment. My parents had placed a few orders of kabobs as well as the karhai chicken. The kabobs weren't bad but nothing exceptional. The sikh kabob looked like it was frozen and a bit salty. The karhai chicken wasn't bad either but nothing spectacular. The place gets a lot of business from the locals. So, if I lived closer to the area, I'd probably come back to visit.

What brought us here: a review in the Washington Post We had the lunch buffet. which was $7.99, a great price that includes 8 (?) main entree choices -- chicken, rice, bread -- and an iceberg lettuce/tomato/carrot salad with mint (?) dressing, and a few desserts. Drinks are separate. The place was well-lit and suitably clean. It took a while for someone to greet us, but when someone did, he handed us takeout menus and told us about the buffet. I would have like labels on the buffet items too. Their dessert case looked amazing, and I wish there were labels too! I would have been more enticed to buy. Ok, so the food was filled with spices, not too salty, not too spicy. Things tasted fresh, not like they were on a buffet line. Food wasn't as warm as I'd like though. All in all, fine place for a quick lunch buffet. Perhaps I would have liked ordering off the menu more -- I could expect warmer food at least. Would like to order off their menu and give them another review.

Yum yum yum! We found ourselves hungry in Gaithersburg last night and saw rave reviews for Eastern Kabob through another review app. So glad I ignored the Yelp reviews and went for it anyway. You know the saying - if you see people from the same culture as the cuisine in the restaurant, you know it's legit. This was certainly the case with Eastern. Stepping into the restaurant, I was reassured by the groups of South Asian bachelors digging into kabobs and chaat. The aroma that fills the restaurant is also a testament to the great things that come out of the kitchen. We ordered the chicken tikka masala and chicken biryani. The chicken tikka masala looked more like a chicken karahi w/ the chunky tomato and onion, so it wasn't exactly what I expected. Still the chicken was so nicely cooked - super tender and flavorful! The chicken biryani had a nice spice level overall although it might have been a little low on salt. Their naan had a great texture, and the side of mint chutney was a nice accompaniment to the meal. Their chaat looked really good and I look forward to coming back to try it. Even though Eastern is super far from me, I'd likely make a trip back if I'm craving desi food (beyond what KP and Ravi can offer)

5 stars for food and service. The lamb chops and tandoori chicken are really good. Tucked away in a strip mall, this place is a hidden gem. I have been going here a few times a month for over a year and I have never been disappointed.

This place is awesome, the food is delicious and so fresh! It's buttery and some on the not very healthy side but who cares its delisous! I have been here 3 times and every time I say to myself we should come here more often!they have vegetarian stuff that were extremely good too! It's not fancy at all paper plates cup plastic silver wear but it's clean!

Following the Post's Tom Sietsema's review of Eastern Kabob, we hopped into the auto one Saturday night and drove up to Germantown to check this place out. First impressions do not do the place justice: it's tucked away in a completely nondescript strip mall. The interior is sparsely furnished, and the ambiance is, well, lacking (to say the least--flourescent lighting and disposable serving ware?) If you didn't know any better, you might think that you've stumbled into something potentially awful. Be not afraid, for the food is the star here, and it really is spectacular. Some of the best kabobs we have had in the DC area are served here: we tried one beef and one lamb, and the meat ws literally seasoned to perfection. As an appetizer, we tried the samosa chat, which isn't anything either my wife or I had ever tried before. It comes out looking like a big pile of mess, but my goodness is it tasty. We ate ourselves into the prorotypical food coma, and thus left no room over for the "sweets". Which I suppose means only that we'll have to make another trip to Germantown for another round. Deducting one point for the really low ambiance quotient; otherwise, a five star experience.

This would be a great time for half stars - I think it's closer to a 2.5 We ordered chicken tikka masala, butter chicken, and samosas. Bad news first: the portions are very small. It's definitely enough for dinner, but usually when I get Indian take out it's plenty for dinner and lunch. For the amount of food that we received, I think the prices are actually a little high. Also, the chicken tikka masala is not the creamy sauce based dish that I know and love. It had chunky tomatoes, tons of onion, and slices of green chiles. The chicken was nicely spiced and cooked, and the flavor was actually pretty good. It's just not what I hoped it would be. The samosas were definitely a disappointment. The pastry was basically off the shelf pie crust, and the filling was plain potato. Very little spice, no peas, just potatoes. They're cheap, but you definitely get what you pay for. That said, the butter chicken was great. The chicken was cooked perfectly and the sauce was outstanding. A little more spice that normal for the dish, but that's what made it so good. In summary: I'm not going back, but it was fine for tonight.

Awesome! My husband and I just did some take out from here this past weekend. Really great authentic Pakistani/Indian food. Everything I ordered tasted like my mom made it (and she is an amazing cook). We ordered the Eastern Special, which was 2 lamb chops, tandoori chicken, and chicken tikka, with rice, and channa (chick pea) masala, goat biryani, and haleem. Somehow we ended up with three huge naan's, and I am not sure which item came with naan. The lamb chops were amazing, really quite tender. Word of advice that the guy at the counter gave me was to order anything with lamb chops before getting there as it takes some time to prep. The haleem and the biryani were both really appetizing. I should also mention that the servings were enough so that we were able to eat the food for dinner, and lunch the next day. The naans tasted just as good when warmed up as they did when fresh.

Eastern Kabob & Sweets is at the corner of Wisteria and Germantown Rd (118) in Germantown. It is a small place but they seem to do a fair amount of business, mostly takeout although they have a few tables available. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear as if they have a website and I couldn't find a menu online but they do have a pretty extensive menu. On their menu, they have a vegetarian section and I asked about the vegan selections and was told the following entrees are vegan: Daal Maharani Daal Makhani Punjabi Chana Masala Mutter Aloo So its a small selection off of their vegetarian menu but some good options. They also have vegetarian appetizers and bread but didn't ask about any of those. Of course as always, I'd verify before you order in case recipes change but they are pretty friendly and willing to answer questions. The prices are pretty good too and most dishes are under $10.

They have pretty good chaat papri and nan (bread). The kubideh (ground beef) is not the best, but decent. The chutney is good as well.
