Solid place to get a great sandwich. They deliver around Bethesda, but give them 30+ minutes. Among the best delis in town.

The other reviewers are right. This place is small, hidden and totally worth looking for. When I see so few reviews with a good rating, I assume that the restaurant is a local secret an only a few yelpers have stumbled across. Besides the obvious reason that you are likely to get a seat, you are also likely to get a great meal. That is the case with Woodmont Deli. Up front: this place is small, I estimate at the wrong time it could be hard to wrestle a table from a local. But trust me (and the other reviews) this place is worth finding for breakfast or lunch. I enjoyed eating here here on a few occasions before I had an epiphany. "Koreans owners mean they know thin sliced Korean BBQ... try their Philly Cheesesteak" Bam! It was like a Philly backed up by a thousand years of Korean culture. (If this starts to get out, it means the American automakers are not the only ones that better start looking over their shoulder. I'm talking to you Pat and Geno.) In my opinion their cheesesteaks are sublime married to pure perfection.

We stopped in for a quick bite and were so pleased! We got a western omelette platter and a Philly cheesesteak sub. Devoured in minutes. Tasty, fresh, fast and a nice, calm ambience to this small shop. We will definitely come again!

I have driven by this placed countless times but up till recently I have never tried it. I moved over the summer and was waiting for the delivery men and decided to see what the Woodmont Deli had to offer and I am so glad that I did! It is a smaller shop with a few tables by the window to sit and people watch. The owner is super nice and very quick. It serves alcohol, coffee, breakfast and lunch and you can do takeout or eat-in. The menu is your regular breakfast menu but adds a few surprise specials each day. I love the sandwich menu and the names! My favorite is The Bethesda Chicken which includes my favorites: alfalfa, grill chicken, kaiser roll, Swiss cheese, and avocado. Yum! The breakfast items are pretty good too and I swear the chicken omelet with a side of home fries can kill any hangover.

At one point in my life, I was fortunate enough to spend 3 years working directly across the door of Woodmont Deli... fortunate for my taste buds... terribly unfortunate for my waistline... but I do thank the two lovely Korean ladies for their extra buttery breakfast sandwiches because I would've never had a booty without them! Baby got back from Woodmont Deli's Sausage, Egg, & Cheese sandwiches... and if you're a white girl lacking in that department, GO HERE NOW!! No amounts of squats or lunges in the gym will ever give you what this sandwich does. Mark my words. Given the number of meals consumed here by myself and my co-workers, I can safely say we tried everything on the menu, and at one point, the cute Korean ladies let us get creative and we started making our own unique sandwiches and menu items. For breakfast, get a hot sandwich, but skip the bagel... with Bethesda bagels close enough, the bagels at Woodmont Deli are quite sad in comparison. I'd suggest the croissant, grilled with a little extra butter. It's the magical power this possesses that makes it worth not thinking about going into cardiac arrest. Remember: IT GIVES YOU A BADONKADONK! For lunch, you obviously can't go wrong with a BLT. One suggestion - get creative here, and ask them to wrap the tomato in bacon, then grill it, and of course, just throw some plain bacon on top as well. You will be in nom-gasm heaven! Their chicken salad though, is my favorite lunch item by far. On lightly toasted wheat bread with a touch of mayo, it doesn't get any better than this. At other area delis, I've struggled with the consistency of chicken salad - too soggy one day, too salty the next day. Not at Woodmont! You are getting the same high-quality, delicious chicken salad every day and consistency is KEY! Good job ladies! When I was fortunate enough to walk in and they were serving Bulgogi as their lunch special, obviously I got that. As you should too. Most of my coworkers, who were lucky enough to be born with rumpalicious backsides stuck to eating salads, which they were always pleased with. Always fresh, easily customizable (add avocado for a winner! bacon wrapped grilled avocado if you're brave like me!), and super hearty and filling when topped with some grilled meat. Ohhhh yeahhhh.

I've only eaten here once but that one time was enough to convince me of the superior nature of Woodmont Deli. I had the Roast Turkey Salad Sandwich that had extremely succulent meat, almonds, cranberries, and a fantastic dressing I couldn't identify. I was in a bit of a rush, too, but they whizzed it out and I was on my way within 5 minutes. It's places like this that make me goggle at the lines inside McDonalds. Bah. The world needs more delis like Woodmont!

When I lived down the street, I'd love getting a breakfast sandwich from here. Particularly right before I hit the road. The friendly Korean ladies always whip up a quick and delicious breakfast sandwich. In addition to Breakfast they have also deli style lunch from sandwiches, health veggie wraps, cold pasta platters, burgers, to some dishes with a little more Korean flare. The atmosphere is cozy with some sidewalk seating. And the cashier counter is covered in items with foreign lettering, treats from a far off land. Definitely a must if your hungry and in the area.

One to two people cooking up orders. A handful of tables for people not in a rush. Quite a bit of morning traffic from apparent regulars, with a bright smile and warm welcome for every visitor. Well-stocked variety in the fridge and on the shelves. I opted for the Genieboy grilled chicken wrap breakfast special "as seen on the Food Channel" ($6.29), and the New York bagel ($5.59) on sesame-- full fixings on each, of course. New York bagel was alright. It's just tough having Uptown as local competition on that front, UD does too phenomenal a job at a comparable price. Here it's equal parts salmon and tomato, plus cream cheese and onion. The Genieboy ended up with diced onions and green peppers to balance out the heartiness of the burrito. I also accepted the offer of provolone but the lady working the grill forgot it. Grilled chicken was white meat, a little dry, but the sliced mushrooms helped keep it moist. Dense and super filling (my tummy definitely believed that three eggs were used), SED still wins the burrito contest. Had I known that there was a choice of wraps, I would've chosen something other than the flour tortilla. Mrs. Yu is a super charming auntie, which makes me feel extra bad for being critical. But really, there are quite a few delis in this quarter mile radius, so you have to bring your A game. I think part of their signature is the menu options of pancakes and breakfast platters in the format of diners and fast food joints. For customer service, they definitely win over UD and SED.

I worked in Bethesda for three years at an office building right across the street from this place. I recently moved to Chicago, so I sadly had to bid the Woodmont Deli a fond farewell. Their food is fantastic. In my three years of going there, I never got something off the menu that I didn't enjoy. My favorites are the broccoli soup (which is homemade), Italian Sub, Woodmont BLT, Washingtonian... I could keep you here for a while listing stuff. They also have great breakfast (the New York bagel was amazing). To top it all off, the store owner is very friendly and the deli itself is burgeoning with charm. I will greatly miss this deli, but I encourage anyone in the area to go there for lunch.

This place has one of the best steak and cheese sub I've ever tried. The only thing I don't care for is that you will smell like grease when you leave.

The sub was one of the best. I worked at nih and the deli is the closest and nicest with affordable price.try the Augustin burger you will be hooked!!! I hope they will add more chairs .

I have been here a couple other times over the years and finally decided to add a review. Today I had their special. Bulgolgi sub + small soup. I went with chicken noodle. The bulgolgi was real good, marinated overnight you could tell. The owners are extremely friendly. I could see by the interaction with/by other customers that this place has a real friendly interaction with store owners and customers. I highly recommend it!

OK-I've always loved the Woodmont Deli. Every sandwich I try is delicious (my fave is the Woodmont BLT, which comes automatically with avocado and a tarragon mayo---make it even better by asking them to add an over-easy egg to it; I also like their gyros). Coffee is good. The family (I think) that runs it are all super personable and kind. Never takes more than ten minutes to complete an order. Pricing is good. Luckily, I live across the street, so I'm there all the time. This review, however, is mainly for an incident that occurred just yesterday. Foolishly, I left my wallet there. Just sitting on the candy shelf. I didn't realize it until late at night, and in a panic, retraced my steps, deciding it must be at Woodmont. Everything, EVERYTHING, is in my wallet (rethinking this now). I called this morning, and the woman who owns the shop said she hadn't seen it. Again, panic, and I resigned myself to the fact that it maybe fell out of my purse and someone snatched it. On the phone, however, the proprietor was soo kind to me. She mentioned a few places I could look, told me about a similar incident that happened to her, and even told me she would pray for me. I was blown away by her kindness. Thirty minutes later, I received a phone call from an unknown number. She had found the wallet! And was safeguarding it until I could stop by. I ran over, found my wallet with everything in it (and tried to leave a tip but they wouldn't let me). So THANK YOU to Woodmont Deli, not just for this incident but the awesome service I always receive there. I'll definitely be visiting you a lot before I move.

While I don't like this place very much for breakfast, lunch is very good here. I had the bethesda sandwich that comes with grilled chicken, bacon, and bean sprouts. Really amazing taste. My friend loved the burger and the reuben here. I recommend calling ahead and ordering especially in breakfast or brunch time.

I get my haircut right down the block at The Shop Salon and I was always make a point to stop in for lunch at Woodmont Deli. The service is extremely fast, and beyond friendly. The owners are the hardest workers I have ever seen and their food is always good. I have never waited more than five minutes for food, and this is usually during a lunch rush. Thanks for the good food and exceptional service!!

I've been eating at the Woodmont Deli for the last 3 years. For the Bethesda downtown area, their pricing is pretty good. Breakfast and lunch are offered all day. Their sandwiches run from $4.99 (tuna salad, egg salad, hamburger) to $6.49 (corned beef, pastrami); a dill pickle comes with them. Their soups are decent; Maryland blue crab soup is, for example, $3.99 for small and $4.99 for large. Lately, they have been having some interesting daily specials. Management is trying to be responsive to the public's various tastes. The staff is quick and respectful. It's a light-filled spot with a few tables to dine-in. It's kinda tucked away on the block--across the street from one of Bethesda's public parking lots on Woodmont and St. Elmo Avenue. It's just my speed. The endless building rehabilitation and road improvements that are going on all around have got to be challenging. Bethesda's major streets seem to be in perpetual gridlock as a result. Hopefully the deli will not be held hostage much longer.

I've increased a star ... my feelings from the previous review ... still the same. But I'd like to add that the Korean lady who is always there in the morning (I really need to get her name!) and Peter are both so friendly and welcoming always. Their smiles in the morning are what make this place extra nice. In addition, she remembered my usual order within 3-4 days so that now when I walk in, no need to tell her what I want... she goes straight to making it. Their coffee (colombian, decaf, almond mocha , and hazelnut) are all really good... they even provide french vanilla Delight creamer (and sometimes, there are hazelnut creamer cups). Since then, I've tried the Italian Cold Cut, which is delicious, with the right amount of mayo and the right amount of hot peppers to give the sub a kick. Definitely love this place!

  • Awesta H.

Their food is good, but if you're planning on delivery plan for it to take a LONG time. They are usually always late (1hr to later). And the lady on the phone will lie about how long it's gonna take.

    (3)
  • Jinna C.

I got a steak and cheese combo. It was good and not too greasy. And the fries are crinkle. My bad experience was with the service. I ordered a pick up over the phone. First, they hung up before letting me know how long it would take to make the food. Next, they didn't even begin making my sandwhich until I paid for the meal which was at least 15 minutes after I placed the order over, drove, and waited in line. After another 5min wait I finally got my food. Maybe i wouldnt have been so annoyed if they let me know how long it would take or they had my order ready so I wouldnt have to wait even longer.

When I still lived and worked on Bethesda, we called this the 'secret sub shop' when we'd take off to grab lunch here. It's so good, we wanted to keep it a secret! The food is incredibly fresh - you can see them carve the meat for your sandwich/salad/wrap the moment you order! I'm partial to the lunch burrito - made with the fresh fixings you request. I've also enjoyed many of the salads which are all just interesting enough - not at all booting garden salads - though you could make your own, too. There is some seating, and the place generally does not fill up. It's more if a grab and go spot!

This place is about a block away from my work, but it is so hidden that I have never been there. I saw the good Yelp reviews and decided to walk around aimlessly on Woodmont until I found it. It wasn't hard to find, but the sign is blocked from the road by a tree, which explains why I never saw it. I ordered the Chicken Sweet Pocket, which was just okay. A bit bland on the chicken, but very fresh tasting. The owners are very friendly people from what I picked up. I will probably be back to try something else, because the prices are affordable and it was quick. I got a nice show when I went in there too. There was some boisterous d-bag on his cell phone in the deli talking to one of his "bros." He was bragging about how some girl told him he looked like some character off a Lifetime TV show. He then told his "Bro Namath" that he preferred being compared to one of the vampires from Twilight. *facepalm*

Family owned, whole in the wall'ish, neighborhood staple. I LOVE THIS PLACE! It's a great little sandwich shop (although I thin they have breakfast too) with awesome prices and the yummy'est sandwiches ever. Every time I've been in I've been greeted by the owner, who is super sweet and always makes sure your food comes out fast and correct. My favorite is the Washingtonian - and since I've ordered it a few times she always remembers me. Maybe I'm a simple gal but I love great customer service and this place has it!

I'm moving into an apartment nearby, so I've been visiting this deli quite frequently while I get settled- it's awesome. The deli is small- they have about 4 or 5 tables inside and then a few tables outside. They have a small selection of wine and beer, but also sell other juices, soda, and drinks such as iced tea. They have a decent selection of coffee and tea as well. They also sell ready food to go such as chips, pretzels, muffins, and brownies. They have a surprisingly large menu, and a lunch special every day. The people working are always friendly and efficient, and I always get my order in a few minutes. For breakfast, my mom is obsessed with their cranberry muffins ($1.99), which are always still warm out of the muffin tin in the morning. I've always gotten a sesame seed bagel with cream cheese ($1.99), and a side of bacon ($1.59). The bagel is always perfectly toasted, and the bacon is crispy. They also have other breakfast items like omelets, pancakes, breakfast sandwiches, and home fries. For lunch, I've had both the cheese fantastic ($5.39) and a bacon cheeseburger ($5.99) with fries ($2.59). My mom has gotten the turkey lunch special twice (they seem to have it every Wednesday) and she said it was one of the best sandwiches she's ever had. They also have other lunch items like veggie burgers, gyro, meatball sub, chicken tenders, soups, and salads. Overall, a great place to grab breakfast or lunch. The staff is friendly, the food is tasty and moderately priced, and I'll definitely be back!

Hands down best lunch time deli in Bethesda. The women who own it keep that place running like a fine oiled machine. They are very personable which draws customers in over and over again. I've been eating at this place for years and I've had just about every sandwich and they are all wonderful and inexpensive. If you want a simple burger and fries? Quick breakfast sandwich? Filling salad? All will meet your needs. Highly recommended

I come to this deli every single week and I am never disappointed. Not only are their sandwiches great, their customer service is through the roof. They greet me by my name every visit and chat with me a little bit while I wait for my order. The owners are great people and the cooks are hard working and always smiling. to anyone that lives close I would definitely recommend stopping by. It is definitely one of the best in Bethesda.

Man, I can't believe I'm the first to write a review for this place. You would think someone would have written something about this deli, 'cause I always see people in there. This deli is owned by at least one Korean woman (maybe more, I'm not sure). But she is very nice and polite. The reason why I like this place is because it's close to my apartment. I usually stop by when I'm on my bicycle riding home from school. Anything on the favorite's menu is good. I love the sandwiches! I've had breakfast here too and you get a decent breakfast for the price. The other cool thing about this place is that they have some drinks that you don't normally see in deli's. For example they have muscle milk in there. There are a few deli's in the neighborhood but this one is my choice because of the friendly owner and great sandwiches! The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 was because I think they could be a bit cheaper. Try the Bethesda Chicken sandwich, it's great!

This is a really nice deli with great sandwiches! Actually, they have everything...salads, cookies, chips, breakfast, coffee, candies. Its a nice place for a quick lunch. I'm either here to pick up coffee or pick up lunch after my hair appointment. For some reason, I get really hungry after I get highlights. My favorite sandwich is the veggie wrap. Its a pita sandwich with cheese, veggies, and a spicy& sweet honey money dressing. It's the best ever and also, its true...the people there are really sweet and friendly!!

Went here for breakfast last week and was pretty impressed. I got the Grilled Chicken Omelet with Home Fries and Toast. It was a ton of food for 6.99. The ingredients were fresh and it was ready pretty quickly. You can tell that they've been here a while and know what they are doing. It was definitely a hole in the wall kind of joint, but they make good food. I want to come back here for lunch and see what they've got. I'd definitely reccomend this joint.

this place is 1/2 a block away from my job. I have eaten there a handful of times since I started working at my company 6 years ago. Why a handful? I don't think the food is that good. The women who work there are overly friendly and I love that. That is the reason for the 3 stars. Their breakfast sandwiches are decent but stay away from the bacon.... I avoid the bacon at all costs. I LOVE BACON! But not here. It has a weird smell to it and it makes it taste odd to me. I know many places cook bacon and then re-heat/cook it prior to serving and this place is no exception. The bad bacon ruined it for me. They do have a decent grilled chicken sandwich tho... I just have to remember to tell them to hold the bacon on it!

I have been constant customer this Woodmont Deli for last a few years because my business is near by. Owner is Korean. She is very kind and working hard. By talking with her and by eating egg salad I enjoy most, I go there almost everyday. I recommend anyone who wants to have a good ~~breakfast in the morning.

  • Mike S.

the owner is the sweetest Korean lady you could ever meet. her smile and genuine kindness are a great way to start the day. the food is consistently delicious and it's a great place to stop for a super-quick cup of coffee and breakfast in the mornings. definitely a get-in-and-get-out place which is good for the pace of a morning commute. there is a parking garage directly across the street, but whether or not i stop in usually depends on if there is street parking available right out front or not. there almost always is either an open space or a space opening up because people come and go so quickly. favorite menu item: Chicken Sweet Pocket

Decided to give this place a try for lunch sometime after I read Brook W's review saying they deliver to NIH. The week right before I took off for the holidays was pretty crazy with work parties and evening shenanigans, and not wanting to go grocery shopping for fear of food going bad, I decided this was just the week to check this place out. Since I work on the NIH campus, it's usually hard to get out for lunch unless it's to one of the cafeterias on campus or unless it turns into a long afternoon excursion. Needless to say, I was so glad to find another place that delivers here. I went pretty simple, turkey club with a side of fries. Both the sandwich and fries were pretty good, and I'd definitely order from them again. Both the woman I spoke to when placing the order and the woman that delivered it were super nice. Delivery took about 30 min... and that's pretty good considering the hassle it takes for visitors to get on campus. Pretty good value, and great sandwiches. (Note - for lunch orders, they recommend getting your order in by 11:15 to beat the rush)

When I worked in Bethesda, I loved coming here because it was across the street from my workplace. It's one of those Korean-owned delis that always greets every one of their customers with a smile as soon as you walk in the door. I usually got a veggie and hummus on wheat for lunch and sometimes I would get a breakfast special in the morning. If you are considering going to Safeway to pick up a sandwich, you should save your money and go to Woodmont Deli. Really good, affordable, not to mention fresh, food. The food is prepared quickly and there is a good variety of drinks and snacks. The only downside is like many delis that are located in a bustling office environment, their hours are limited and they are not open on weekends.

Woodmont deli is close to my apt. Awesome spot for a quick breakfast or lunch sandwich. the breakfast sandwiches are great. lots a good options for deli sandwiches. great selection of natural drinks and all kinds of fruit drinks, chips, candies, etc. coffee & tea of course. salads too. The Korean owners / workers are always so nice and friendly. i think i've seen them selling beer now too. I enjoy the classical music they play in there too. it's a small spot but cozy.

Went there on a Sat morning and people kept coming in to this cozy place. Food was great. Service was fast and great. My breakfast was big enough for 2. If I work/live in this area, I would definitely go more often!!

If you are looking for cheap, good comfort food with excellent family-like customer service and you live in the area this is a good place to go. I just had a cheese steak the other night and I thought it was perfection. Also, this place has been around since 1947 so it has that older, homey feel to it. I felt like I could be friends with the waitress.

Best egg bagel sandwiches I've ever eaten. Get it just like you like it. Go there often and you're a regular, they'll remember your name. Always polite. They can do 6 things at once which means they can take care of all of their faithful clients at the same time. The soups are fantastic and it's always fun to pick up an unusual international treat at the register - none of the typical skittles and snickers bars there. They have Honest Tea in the cooler and other healthy items rather than the usual high-fructose corn syrup fare. The lunch offerings might sound mundane, but they do it up right. Delivery is spotty - they don't seem to always have someone who can do it. But if you call ahead, you can stop off quickly, run in and grab your stuff.

This place delivers to NIH, which is awesome because it is impossible to leave campus for lunch and expect to find parking when you get back. They know the campus (Even that building 31 has three parts) and they deliver really quickly. The steak and cheese combo (comes with fries and a drink) is a pretty good value and is a good amount for a lunch (not too much, but not too little).

This place has the best sandwiches. I am not a fan of reubens, but the ones they make are awesome. The owner is very nice as well.
