I've dined/ carried out many times from this restaurant. I love their sushi. Their special rolls are all so delicious. My personal favorite is the "Spicy Crunch Salmon Roll". SOOO yummy! I've never had bad sushi at this place. However, if you're looking for Thai noodles, go to a Thai restaurant. Their drunken noodles were not very flavorful and not even a hint of spicy. Overall, I've always had a positive experience. The staff has been friendly every time, and we've never had to wait to be seated.

My kids love it. Lunch prices are a very good value (lunch portioned meals offered as low as $7-$8) . Dinner isn't as good a value in my opinion, so we tend to only go for the lunch specials. Service can be a bit slow - they don't seem to have enough waitress/waiter staff for the volume of customers during peak times. There is plenty of parking, which is a huge plus in the Bethesda area. Overall a good neighborhood restaurant for casual dining at a reasonable price.

I never tried sushi until one afternoon we stopped in to Passion Fin. The bartender who serviced us was very informative and recommended some non fishy rolls to start. I loved it! I had a nice glass of wine and enjoyed the atmosphere. I visit here often now. Great hidden gem!

We went here on a Saturday afternoon and the restaurant was fairly empty. We were promptly seated. We ordered a California roll, shrimp tempura roll, spicy tuna, spicy salmon, and the Tuna Lover roll. Overall, the sushi was good. I couldn't tell the difference between the spicy tuna and spicy salmon but the Tuna lover roll had lots of tuna as the name suggested.

seems expensive to me. Sushi was better than other stuff. My kids liked it. roti canai was really greasy.

Have recently moved to Bethesda and discovered Passion Fish. Great food and amazing service. Angel greeted me with warmth and genuine hospitality. My bartender Michelle was very attentive and wonderful at recommendations. Passion roll was to die for.

So, I live in the neighborhood so my wife and I are excited that there is a new sushi restaurant in our community. Up until now we've religiously been going to Kotobuki. The sushi at Passion Fin is good. They don't have much in the way of exotic fish or cuts, like the various types of toro that you get at Matuba, but they cover all the basics. I found that the best items on the menu are the the fancy, elaborate rolls that have a bunch of ingredients. Now for the bad part. I decided to take a chance and try the pad thai. I'm a fan of the dish and used to think that it was like pizza. Even the worst pizza is still pretty good. This is not the case here. The pad thai I got was a bland pile of noodles with a handful of tasteless shrimp scatered on top of the dish as though someone forgot them and added them at the last minute. It was so bad, that I started thinking maybe the chef had some kind of disdain for anyone ordering pad thai in a Japanese restaurant, b/c s/he clearly didn't want me to order it again. I've been back to this place four times now trying different items on their menu. If you are not picky about your nigiri then this place should be fine. Otherwise stick with places like Kotobuki or Matuba. The maki selection is where this place really shines. And their Thai food is an absolute abomination. They should consider sending their chef to intern at Amina Thai, or even Tara Thai to learn how to prepare standard issue Thai dishes.

Great presentation, great food (favs are sweet potato roll, veggie roll, and tofu teriyaki dinner). Grices, nice location, and nice bar area. Take out is packaged well, too. I'm vegan and am very pleased with their options.

I have had two lunches to-go from here so this review is only about the food. Thai Basil Chicken: Great price, very skimpy portion. As someone who has been to Thailand many times, this dish was extremely underwhelming. The quality of the chicken was the same as the cheapest Chinese takeouts, the spice was non existent and the sauce had almost no flavor and was watery instead of coating the rest of the ingredients. 3 Roll Sushi Special: Again, excellent price but this time it was good value as well. The flavor of the sushi was very boring though. The one roll with honey was not a pleasant flavor combination and the spicy tuna had no kick at all. It seems like everyone likes their fancy rolls covered in spicy mayo which is pretty hard to mess up. I would recommend Yirasai over in Westbard for sushi over this place any day. Disappointing as I liked their menu and was hoping for a fun new restaurant in the area but the quality of the food is just not good enough for my palate.

Best sushi I've had in a long time. I had the Awesome rolls and my date had the Passion rolls, both were awesome. Definitely going back soon.

My new favorite place to dine - especially with a group. Conveniently located, easy to park, well-priced and a great menu. Love the appetizers, sushi/sashimi and fish entrees. The fish is always super-fresh and delish. The presentation is awesome too!

At long last, an Asian fusion restaurant with sushi has opened in the west end of Bethesda. Located in the Shops at Sumner Place, the shopping center has been the hidden secret for those in Sumner and along the MacArthur Blvd. corridor. After months of waiting for the Grand Opening, it finally did in the midst of the July heat wave. It was worth the wait. Beautifully designed bar area (2 TVs) and a nice sized dining room was packed the first 4 days after opening. We finally made it in, gave our name and waited about 15 minutes in the heart of the dinner rush (7ish). They are still working on the name/seating and the bar was packed as well as the window seats as the A/C was trying its best. Passion Fin owner operators Jeffrey Fox and Jin Lin also own Sake Steakhouse in Laurel, MD and Fuji Sushi in Bel Air, MD but seem to be amazed by the immediate local popularity. Or no one wants to cook when it's 100 degrees and there is a New Restaurant Nearby! The food is an combination Thai and Japanese, with a nice sushi bar in the rear with 3 sushi chefs when we were there. The Thai was represented with delicious Roti Canai (Indian pancake) with a nice curry coconut chicken sauce, meant to be an appetizer, but ended up as our dessert. We had the classic Japanese house salad with ginger dressing while waiting for our sushi. We tried several rolls, expensive but well prepared - the Dynamite $12, Godzilla $12.50 and Empire Rolls ($14, but crunchy inside with great crabmeat & seared tuna, outside avocado with wasabi mayo, spicy may and masago on top). That was plenty for us with Sapporo beer and ice tea. We will be back for a dinner from the grill, hibachi and teriyaki as well as the chef's signature thai curry chicken, shrimp and sea bass dishes. Of course there is Pad Thai and ice cream - will try the Fire Works Ice cream next time. Nice lunch specials, too, with tables available outside. They are already doing lots of take-out. Beer and wine only right now, liquor license pending and their website isn't up yet either. Still a work in progress, but we welcome them to the neighborhood.

I'm a regular there. Not the area'a best sushi, but certainly excellent for the price. The lunch sushi special is awesome (11.95 for 18 pieces of 3 different rolls).I always get the sushi combo b and the spicy seafood app for dinner. Solid. The thai food is aight too...

This place started out OK but with age, now sucks. Overpriced for bland food. Plenty of better, cheaper options in Bethesda. The overbearing manager/owner dude no longer runs outside, practically hitting you in the face with the door to greet you...not that I ever liked him doing that anyway.

This is my second time going here for lunch. The service was great, and the food was decent. They have a good 'lunch' menu that is reasonably priced. I only get out here when my work is local to Bethesda, but this is my go to place.

I had dinner here over the weekend. I thought the ambiance of the restaurant was very comfortable. The place was a little small but it was nice. As an appetizer I had a special scallop dish which was very good. I chose this place because I was in a sushi mood so I had their red dragon dish. It was not as spicy as I was hoping but it was quite good. The service was great. I was waiting for some friends to arrive so I had a nice conversation with the waitress as I was waiting. Overall, an enjoyable time.

When you sit at the Sushi Bar and can watch truly talented chefs perform their art you know how good the food really is. It's not about how good it tastes, its about how good it looks and then how good it tastes. A great cutter creats a magical vision of how much a plate can impress and tantilize your taste buds. Presentation is as important as how good it tastes. Passion Fin is not just unique as a place where really great Sushi and Sashimi lives. This is a rave notice. Ten out of ten. Best damn fish in Bethesda. Godzilla Roll is a must. Did I mention I have eaten at over a hundred Sushi Restaurants across the country and I will rate this one among the very best. The racist comments in a previous post are completely uncalled for. This restaurant is among the best in all of DC, especially considering it has been open barely a week.

The most amazing staff and food in the area! The food is delish and fun. If you go a little later in the evening the sushi chefs get very creative with their presentation. We actually had neon lights and smoke effects one night. But that's not why we return constantly. The sushi is fresh and the food is great everytime. The happy hour menu is perfect and they are fast.. The manger Jeff will make sure your food, atmosphere and experience is meticulously just right for you. My personal fav... Mango shrimp salad. Yum...... :-)

I live in the neighborhood and I was very excited that there is a new sushi restaurant opening... I WANTED to love it really but this was SUCH a letdown... First of all this is NOT a family friendly restaurant. You feel out of place taking kids there. Second they are about as friendly as your average prison door. Third the sushi is blah (I wouldve said vanila but...) at best and Bethesda has so much in the way of great sushi places that I'd rather go a little bit further to get quality. Fourth the prices are ludicrous. I mean I know sushi in general is outrageous nowadays bur still!!!!! So all in all between blah expensive food and snobby waitresses and customer service (manager's worse) I will make a point to NEVER go again.... I gave them more than a chance, I tried FOUR times mind you, so this is me telling you this is never getting better. PASS,

Wow I love love love this place. It very close to my job and I have gone there several times. They have great lunch deals that are affordable, entree and Salad for under $11 is great. My favorite is the Mango Shrimp. Highly recommend this place.

OK, I'm not the ideal guy to review this place, as I don't eat seafood. Went in alone. Had Thai Basil Chicken, a coupla glasses of Merlot and mochi for dessert. The entree was utilitarian -- neither awful nor exceptional. It did the trick. I'm not one to complain about the price/portion ration, but if I were, I'd suggest that the dinner portion I paid for was on the skimpy side. The service was brisk and efficient. Every empty vessel was instantly removed and the check was brought within moments of my asking for it. (Failure to deal with the check promptly is a pet peeve for me in many restaurants. Passion Fin passed this test with flying colors.) The noise! That's an issue. All the surfaces are hard and seem to amplify the slightest peep. I was in early, about 6:00 PM. The far wall is one long banquette, which, during the time I was there, was filled with bouncy children ranging, I would say, from 3 to 8 years old. Now I know there are parents for whom every outburst from their spawn is a Mozart symphony. That they seemed to be holding their convention at Passion Fin the very night I chose to dine there is an unfortunate coincidence. Their presence seemed particularly bizarre as the place has the feel of a singles bar, given that a fully stocked booze dispensary occupies one full wall of the place. All that said. Not too bad Pretty good moderately-cheap eats.

We have eaten here a lot and always enjoy it. I always get sushi but others in my family always get something else so I have tried a lot of other things on the menu. Always very tasty and fresh. We even ended up here on Christmas. Very glad to have this place near by!

Absolute worst customer service I've ever experienced! We live in California and have sushi all the time and the waitress was YELLING at us about what is in a California roll. Then when I tell her that I will find something else and she can take that back to the kitchen she starts yelling at us again telling us we don't know what we're talking about. She stomps away with the roll in hand, comes back two seconds later and asks us what we've decided on (in the 2 seconds it took her to walk to the kitchen). We got up and left but not before talking to the manager. The manager was a joke. We told him what was going on and he said he heard her yelling at us and was sorry. Keep in mind WE APPROACHED HIM TO COMPLAIN! Any manger worth his weight would've come over to the table to apologize but nooo not this guy! Then when we were paying him for our appetizer (which he didn't even offer to take care of) he wanted to keep the change ! I will NEVER return to this place. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!!

Stumbled upon this place and now I go out of my way to go back. The sushi tastes fresher than any other restaurant I've found in the D.C. area and they get the rice to fish ratio perfect. The customer service is great....the staff is always very friendly and accommodating. Lots of gluten free options and gluten-free soy sauce is a huge plus.

While the decor is modern and pleasant, the food leaves much to be desired. If you're looking for good authentic Asian cuisine -- or just good food -- this is NOT the place to go. My group ordered the chicken teriyaki, chicken hibachi, and a few sushi rolls. The chicken in both dishes tasted like plastic. The sushi was mediocre (the fish was not high quality). Also be prepared for poor service. The wait staff borders on incompetent -- poor English and oblivious to their customers' needs. (When our waitress saw we had left most of the meal on the plate, she asked if everything was all right --- but then she clearly didn't know what "terrible" meant, as all we received was a bright smile.) This restaurant was not even good American-Asian. It was straight-up awful. I won't be returning.

I went there for lunch with my daughter on the spur of the moment yesterday and i can't tell you how happy i was sitting there. That space has been empty for so long, and for it to open looking so extremely elegantly beautiful and relaxed and tranquil was so appealing. The menu was filled with offerings, with many lunch specials and a huge dinner menu. Unusual delicious sushi offerings, too. The nicest waitresses and delicious food. Can't wait to frequent this place.

I've been waiting for this place to open for months each time I go into Praline, across the way, to get my favorite macarons. Finally made it in yesterday for lunch, and it was DELICIOUS!!! Great prices, delicious, inventive sushi rolls, a vast menu, and friendly staff. I am so excited to have a fabulous Asian restaurant so close by. I hope it acquires more reviews, since it's a bit off the beaten path in a shopping center, because it is definitely worth it. Go there, and enjoy!

I eat at passion fin at least once a week because i work near here. The food although great in presentation isn't quite great in taste. Mediocre at best. I have tried the seafood udon/volcano roll/mango shrimp and yellow curry shrimp. All were too overpriced and bland. Rather make the trip to yirasai thats five min away.

Food is very good, especially considering this is still their first week. Pan-Asian: Japanese/Sushi, Thai mostly. Sushi bar and bar for drinks. Interior is casual but a little sophisticated. Very crowded its first week in business. There really are no restaurants worth mentioning in this region of Bethesda, so this one should do well. Only minor quibble would be the need for some sound-deadening materials -- having a small bar and tv's and a crowd makes for some noise.

Love this place. Large menu and super easy location. Try the whitefish tempura, excellent. The green curry chicken is vey good even though another said it was not. All the seared tuna dishes are great. The staff are wonderful. Hot sakai !!

This restaurant is amazing! Quick service and great food add up to a great restaurant that I wish we had discovered sooner than we had. Sushi: beautiful and tasty. Entrées: delicious. I recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting good food.

Pleasant new restaurant, friendly staff, and we really need more choices in the neighborhood ----so really wanted to be excited and positive about the food. However, while we have only been once, the sushi was just average in taste and freshness, edamame not cirsp, and Pad Thai unexciting. Nice to have a new place in this location and hope it improves. Willing to try again, but nothing to rave about yet if you are serious about sushi and/or Thai food and appreciate it when it is just right.

The owners have really tapped into the needs of the neighborhood with this new restaurant. Fresh, delicious, interesting food. Family-friendly (but without the kids menus, crayons and plastic cups that make dining out with kids feel like you're in a kiddie place rather than a proper restaurant). Cool, modern interior. Service was excellent - Star was friendly, funny, efficient...she was obviously run off her feet but didn't forget a thing and was always engaged and attentive. We ordered several serves of sushi as well as soups, and a few mains (Udon chicken noodle stirfry, and Mango Shrimp). All were beautifully presented, the ingredients were fresh...oh, those strips of fresh mango were divine! Free parking. So happy Passion Fin has opened here - inspired. My overall impression is that this is fresh, modern, healthy and cool. I think it's fitting that Passion Fin has taken residence in the ex-premises of a stuffy, conservative clothing store - the new vibe is here. (Recommend reservations - we arrived at about 6pm but by 7pm there was an hour wait for a table)
