Omg, this Chinese woman that works here is extremely rude, racist and very disrespectful to ppl, worst customer service ever, I am very very disapointed and I wish I never went there... She was very mean to me and my friend for I'm not sure what reason... Also while we were waiting for the food I saw her take money and credit cards from the ppl and than after charging them for their food she would go in the kitchen without even washing her hands and start preparing food such as spring rolls or dumplings without wearing gloves, so she was basically handling food with her unclean hands and with no gloves on... After I saw all that i decided not to eat meal that I ordered... We all know how dirty dollar bills are, and how many germs or who knows what kind of diseases they might carry, and for somebody who works in a restaurant it's a must to have a good hygiene and wash their hands after every contact with money or anything that's not related with food... So if you have any standards you should definitely avoid this place, horrible level of hygiene, possibility to get food poisoning, and extremely rude and impolite workers...

The fried rice is anemic - and how does one get chicken to taste like tofu? Other dishes can be good, lo mein in particular. Too bad they serve you fried rice with their lunch specials instead of more of your original dish. Also, they never provide utensils or napkins with your delivery order ... FAIL.

I'm pretty forgiving and this stuff was really bad. Everyone here threw away more than half of it. Meat is flavorless, everything is mushy. Quite bad. Portions are big, though, so if you're all about quantity over (any) quality, go for it.

Makes my lunch rotation once a month. Acceptable takeout General Tso's Chicken served in hearty portions with your choice of fried or steamed rice and some undercooked broccoli for $6.10 including tax. Complimentary hot tea. "They are who we thought they were!!!"

Every time I have been there, I(and friends) have always gotten what was ordered and it was always what I expected. The vegetables are always fresh as well as the rice(not always the case in other establishments). My favorite here is their Moo Goo Gai Pan. Added plus is that I can walk there and do a pick-up instead of getting delivery. All in All, I am giving it 4 stars for being consistently a good place to get a quick take-out order.

Mayflower manages to get my order (delivery) wrong about a third of the time, which wouldn't be so unbearable if the food was reaaaaally worth eating. It shouldn't be hard to find a Chinese restaurant in Bethesda that can reliably deliver tasty food.

This is passable Americanized Chinese food. I would avoid the "roast duck" as it's more boiled than roasted (they "roast" it themselves), and I think they use more cornstarch, fewer veggies, and lower-quality protein than Golden House 2 (my standby, I don't know why I bothered trying Mayflower). They got my order right and delivered to my apartment, so extra star.

Hidden among tons of restaurants and fast food spots, this tiny Chinese place is not only my favorite for the amazing flavors, but also for the price! It has to be the cheapest spot around, and the food is AMAZING! Come here when you need a tasty, quiet place to enjoy a nice meal.

Great Place to order Take Out, Eat in or Delivery! You can either enjoy your food inside or sit down outside. The food is consistant and so quick it's hot! I always get their won ton soup and pepper steak! Their Drivers are very friendly! The Mayflower has good prices and customer service. They are accommodating with orders and give plenty of food. I often get extra onions and arrive after lunch hours, but they do not charge me extra for it. They are similar to other Chinese take out restaurants and meet or excede my expectations every time. I can only compare it to the Golden House, which is also good, but the Mayflower has better soup for me, better customer service and a place to sit down to eat. I don't ever eat the fortune cookies there though, because they are thin, like the ones at Panda Express, so I suggest that they should change their supplier on those. Their ingredients taste fresh, and I have seen fresh green beans being delivered there. One Google review said the lady on the phone was rude, but perhaps the caller was. Also, they are always rushing at Chinese restaurants, so being curt should be expected. She is not rude to me, but appears to work very hard and provides me with my food. I recommend them if you are in Bethesda! Thanks for reading. :) Ben

As far as Chinese takeouts are concerned, Mayflower ranks as one of the tops, if not THE TOPS. Every order that I've gotten from here has been ample, filling, tasty, and a good bargain. Never too greasy, never too salty, never bland. The best thing is, if you have an office party or whatever that you need to order food...we ordered their "Party Platter" a few dozen times. CANNOT BE BEAT for value. You get so much food for such a little price. Of course, quality can change over time...especially Chinese takeouts have a habit of changing ownership and staff.

Mediocre, greasy Chinese food. Not terrible, but not great. Tastes the same as all the other Chinese joints around Bethesda that I've had so far. The online ordering is convenient.

There are two categories of Chinese food: take out and dine in. This is the type that you order and pick up to take home and eat. If that is what you want then this place is amazing. I've been going there for 3 years and it hasn't changed. I usually get the same thing with General Tsos chicken and boneless BBQ pork ribs. Its really tasty, cheap and will fill you up with a bunch of leftovers for a decent lunch the next day. I think a lot of people that go here are expecting amazing Chinese food. You gotta know the difference between the two types.

Solid Chinese food all around, a bit greasy, but great for take-out or delivery. All the classic dishes with a classic numbering system and accompanying backlit menu photos. The dine-in option is less than optimal, just a few empty tables along the windows, and a few outside seats in the summer. One side of the eating space is filled with pallets of drinks and refrigerators. But I stop by at least once a month to bring some Chinese home after work, it's better than my neighborhood option.

These reviews hit the rating right on the head, this place is a solid 2.5 - 3 stars. Want to stuff your face and only have 6 bucks? Not a problem. Location? Solid. Right off Norfolk road, in the middle of the 'other downtown' Bethesda. Food quality? I'd ding them down to 2 stars, but considering the price you are paying, the food is quality in relation to it. I've only ordered a handful of times and waited to write this. But a synopsis of my experiences; The food is fairly bland. I order something different each time, and there's essentially no spices going on. Just bland take out chinese. I can understand if they simply did Chinese food, but they also do Thai food. I'd expect them to understand how to infuse some sort of flavor. As with several of the other reviews, I ordered steam veggies. Expecting carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, etc ... no. They only give you steamed broccoli. It's a decent portion, but as with the other reviews, the brocolli had a chemical taste to it. Now I'm pretty sure it's just how they prepared it, but it made it rather unpleasant. They are extremely quick with prep, and while they probably won't ever make my weekly rotation, the one or two times a year I want my fix, I'll order from them.

I order takeout from here about once a week. They know me on the phone now and are super nice. But that's not really why I like them. I'm a fan because I get my food delivered QUICK. And I mean quick! Sometimes it feels like I've just hung up the phone and they are knocking at the door. It never takes more than 15-20 minutes and is always hot, tasty, and with a big serving. Yes, this isn't gourmet Chinese. You won't find artfully crafted dishes. But you will get the staples with fresh ingredients and large portions for a very fair price.

Really fresh and gently cooked healthy Chinese food. In every dish they pile on the fresh veggies which are cut into large chunks and only lightly cooked - so they retain a great flavor and crunch. The sauces are fairly mild and there is very little oil in their cooking (yay!). This is prepared food that you can eat on a regular basis (almost like home cooking). Service is nice and fast - you can call ahead or just order in the restaurant and they'll usually get it done in less than 10 minutes.

Sometimes you are just in the mood for cheap, fast Chinese Food -- and when you are, be careful about this place. I tried it on just such a whim, but it was flavorless. I mean I understand what you are getting into with Chinese takeout for $5-6 for lunch, but this was poor. I think, at least the vegetables were fresh and there were many of them. But flavor???

Two and a half stars. I broke my cardinal rule with Chinese takeout: I didn't hide the fact that I'm Asian in order to get the average experience. I don't think it affected the results, though. Sandwich bags included a cookie and some soy sauce. Portions are generous, I was full off half a non-lunch special. Soft bean curd with eggplant in garlic sauce, crispy chicken, and crispy beef are pretty safe choices, and the amoy chow mei fun is a little greasy but alright. Fried chicken wings may be the best option. Double cooked pork uses the char siu cut rather than pork belly, mixed in with soggy stirfry veg. Pork chop was pounded thin and cut off the bone, great fry on the breading but the interior was cooked until grey. Roast duck menu special was drenched in brown sauce, as was the chicken with broccoli and the shredded Szechuan beef. Fried rice is done with fresh rather than stale rice, with just a hint of egg and a sparse sprinkling of frozen peas/carrot dice. Fried seafood platter was the best deal: slightly over-fried seafood, sauteed asparagus, bleh crinkle-cut french fries. Overally not horribly greasy, but no flavor. Aftertaste was a common sensation of oiled tackiness in my mouth. This is a pass for me.

First time I came here I just grabbed some fried vegetables and rice and headed back to the office. Quick and cheap. I returned last week to have the sweet and sour chicken. HOLY chicken! I got a massive amount of food! Half the container was piping hot fried tempura chicken bites and the other half was a giant mound of fried rice. Then I got another container (at least 8 oz) of sweet and sour sauce to add myself. Plus a fortune cookie! I also grabbed a can of soda. I can't believe I go that much hot and tasty food for under $8! It was easily enough for both lunch of dinner. (My boyfriend raved about the leftovers he ate for dinner that night). Staff is friendly and they cook everything after you order so there is a bit of a wait time, but still incredibly fast considering I came during the lunch rush. There is no doubt I'll be returning, and maybe trying something a bit healthier ;)

Typical Chinese fast food I suppose. I've ordered from them about 3-4 times now. The first time wasn't too bad, but the second time, the broccoli in my chicken & broccoli tasted like chemicals had been sprayed on them--like Windex or something. I had my co-worker try it to make sure I wasn't tripping, and she had to spit it out it was so awful. I called and they said they would bring me something else, so they did. Against my better judgment, I ordered from them a third time and although the food didn't taste like chemicals this time, it was super bland. But for $6, can't complain too much. My co-worker loves them though, and swears they have the best Pad Thai.

One of the better Chinese food places in Bethesda. The low mein actually tastes the way it is supposed to rather than being soy-sauced spaghetti. Portions are fair for the price, and lunch looks to be a good deal. Carry-out is fast and efficient, but they have a few seats for people who want to eat there. Limited parking on busy nights, so delivery may be the best option.

I just moved here, and I was going for a go to NY style Chinese restaurant. Talk about a disappointment. The good: fastest Chinese food I have ever had. The bad: the worst Chinese food I have ever had (and I am from Maitland, Florida).

We picked up several dishes (eggplant, curry beef, pupu platter, chicken lo mein). It was hot and ready when they said it would be. The food was good. I would be happy to order from them again.

Oh man, I remembered that one time I had Chinese here. It was back in my NIH summer intern days after a brief happy hour at Rockbottom, decided I wanted something to eat though I really wasn't all that hungry. So I went for the General Tso's and while it didn't make me sick, I got that classic Chinese food narcosis you get anytime you eat at one of those low-quality buffets and this place was no exception. This is standard fare, americanized Chinese food. I don't even think about going here especially since there are far better places in north Bethesda and Rockville.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
