This was the first time I actually had Jimmy John's at their shop. There was 1 other customer there and it was a Sunday afternoon so it wasn't busy at all. There were more people working than necessary and the workers look incredibly bored. One was even on their phone the entire time we sat and ate our sandwiches. My sandwich wasn't the best; I wish they had a mini sandwich available like Jersey Mike's because their regular sandwich is far to big. I didn't even want to save the other three quarters of my sandwich because it wasn't that great. I probably would choose another sandwich shop to go to because there wasn't anything fantastic about this one.

I like Jimmy John's in general, but this place is a mess. The delivery kid went in the back employee's only entrance of our office building (first no no), as I was sitting outside waiting for him. 20 minutes pass. I go upstairs having given up, and not getting any calls from them. Lo and Behold the kid was standing at the front desk of my office, having the receptionist call my desk over and over again -- EMBARRASSING! Now my boss is pissed, so I'm pissed. The kid acted like an angry little snot. I asked why he didn't call my cellphone, and he said he didn't bring the number with him on the order sheet. Dude. Don't call my desk. I hate you. Anyway, I called his store the next day to complain, and I think the kid answered, because the guy on the phone was super rude and obnoxiously placating. So, I finally got my Italian hoagie, but it must have somehow gotten some fish juice on it. That was gross. Italian hoagies shouldn't taste like fish.

The worst customer service I have ever experienced in my entire life. Will never give them my business again.

Best sandwich place ever! My boyfriend had told me about this place and I always thought "they're just sandwich's they can't be THAT great." Well I was wrong. I ordered a Lulu's Club online for deliverly because I intern in Bethesda and needed a quick lunch. Not only was it cheaper than Subway or Jetties (another Bethesda deli) but it was super fast and so fresh! The bread taste like heaven and the bacon was cooked perfect, everybody in my office was jealous of me, I felt like the cool intern, haha. I felt like my mom had packed my lunch and rushed it to me because I forgot it at home. It was that good. Sad I tried it a week before my internship ends.

Delivery order took 50 minutes to arrive. Ordered EZ mayo, open the sandwhich mayo oozing out of both ends. Ordered extra turkey for $2, there was literally 1 slice of turkey on each side. Almost positive they completely disregarded the instructions/ customize options and just saw the name of the sub and went for it. Piss poor effort.

  • Lauren R.

Takes on average 30 minutes for delivery, today more than 30 minutes, and I'm only one block away. NOT freaky fast.

$6.24..............$6.24............$6.24. That's it peeps!!!!! I paid for a great sub sandwich and a fountain drink IN BETHESDA!!!!!!!!!! Let's be honest it's not Jettie's but def. better than Potbelly, Subway and most delis in town. My Vito Italian sub came with genoa, salami, provolone, capicola, onion, lettuce, tomato, and some yummy Italian dressing. I'll be back to SMELL the deliciousness!!!!!!

This location is right off the bike trail, and they do not allow cyclists to walk in with their bike to order a sandwich in the middle of the day when there are NO customers in the store. Yeah, right. I don't need to leave my investment outside while I eat at this sandwich joint. I'll pass for another spot with an owner and workers with better business/common sense.

I'll start off by saying that the online ordering system executes very well. However, when my friend went to pick up the order, the staff did not seem to know where or what the orders were. When my friend returned, we noticed they forgot our two large sweet iced teas and my pickle!! Although ours sandwiches were delicious, there was nothing to wash down my meal, no pickle...no tea :(. I hope they aren't always this disorganized, because I do love going there.

Great sandwich shop! The bread is the most fresh I've had in a DC sandwich shop. It's quick (got my sandwich before my credit card had even finished running), tasty (roast beef was delicate and delicious), and yes ...offers free smells.

  • Albert Y.

Fine food for a fine price. The sandwiches & subs offered are what you expect for a franchise, and I think they taste great. They're simple but that makes the orders come super fast and keeps the cost relatively low. You can request to add in extra toppings and such, some free and some paid. The facility is nice and big and the staff always seem super-friendly to me, greeting me as soon as I even open the door. I know everyone has different tastes but this is a great quick option if you are fine with simple subs. I ordered a #14 Bootlegger club sub today and literally got it within seconds. The portion size is just right, not too big and not too small.

Exceptionally good sandwiches for an exceptionally reasonable price. I discovered the JJ chain while traveling from the west coast along I-80. While I passed through Iowa I turned to Yelp for finding a good place nearby and JJ's popped up. So I figured I'd give it a try. It took me what seemed forever to read their vast menu and I eventually decided on the "hunter's club" which consisted of a full 1/4 pound of applewood smoked ham, provolone, lettuce, tomato, and mayo, prepared lightening fast. Holy Jeezus it was good...the bread was amazing...just the right amount to crispy crust with a soft fresh baked interior. Absolutely amazing and a DEAL at $5.25. The next day of my road trip I stopped for gas in Ohio, and to my astonishment, there was a JJ's inside the station. I abhor gas station fast food chains but I was absolutely starving and there were few, if any, other options around. I was curious if a gas station JJ's is as good as a normal storefront one. I ordered the "bootlegger club" consisting of roast beef, turkey, lettuce, tomato, mayo, and provolone. WOW. It was amazing. Once again, $5.25 well spent. The last day of my road trip I arrived hungry in Bethesda around lunch time. Out of curiousity I yelped local lunch spots and BAM! there was another JJ's. This time I ordered the "ultimate porker" consisting of applewood smoked bacon and ham, lettuce, tomatot, mayo, and provolone. Once again, WOW. I am amazed at the simple CONSISTENCY of the product I experienced in three different states and in three very different neighborhoods. I will be back to JJ's as often as I can to try every single sandwich on their menu. Give them a try!

Quick, efficient, cheap and awesome. Want to pay less than $8 and be in and out in less than 2-3 minutes... this is the place.

Best sandwich shop in Bethesda! Very fresh and delicious bread. Great prices and top quality typical of every Jimmy John's I've been to. Fast Service.

  • James w.

Went to Jimmy John's for the first time today. When i went in I was skeptical about the food quality, the place had a kinda "Subway" feel. I was pleased to find out it was not as low end as subway is. The hero was great. The cold cuts were fresh, testy, and generous. The bread they used was a bit different but very good. The best part was the price, $4.95 for an eight inch hero. I do not know how they can make money on that. I will absolutely go back. Better than Taylor or Jetties.

This JJ's is pretty close to my office, and I order delivery from them once a week. They are always fast, and they've never messed up my #6 Vegetarian. They sent a delivery guy without the chips that I ordered once - the guy was super apologetic and told me to call the store to get a refund. I was told over the phone that since I ordered online, I couldn't get a refund but that they would send someone over with my missing chips AND an extra bag of chips for the trouble. The replacement chips arrived in less than five minutes; a small gesture but I think they handled it perfectly. My suggestion is to tip the delivery guys well, especially if you order regularly - they deserve it!

  • Ebie B.

Ordered from here again today. This time it was very fast so I added another star. There were random ingredients on the paper which contained my sandwich so every once in awhile I got a bite of oregano, lettuce, etc. I wish they would be more careful about that but it's not a huge deal. The bread today was very fresh. I do agree that the prices are relatively high for the lack of meat on the sandwiches, especially since the delivery prices per item are much higher than the regular menu if you pick up or eat in. It's $5.75 for a simple sandwich with 2 pieces of turkey and nothing else. No cheese or veggies. That seems a bit high. I'll probably order from here again when I'm craving a sub and can't get to subway. It's not great but a pretty decent option for delivery.

  • Peter M.

Very very disappointed. Had heard great things and not only did it take an eternity for our 3 subs yes three subs to be delivered my roast beef had 2 slices of meat. Compared to jersey mikes that pile on the meat this is horrible. I think subway who is known for being skimpy with meat. Check out the pictures

    (1)
  • Jason W.

Awful, awful service , bland dry skimpy food, overpriced. Service is borderline disrespectful. No wonder the place was empty at 12 noon on a workday. Will never go to jimmy johns again

It's my first time ever going to a Jimmy John's. This location is nice and clean and the staff is friendly. As for the food, it was ok. I got a typical sub on bread that was actually fresh (which is a plus). Overall, this location is A-OK with me.

    (3)
  • Tahirah W.

I've eaten at plenty JJ's in the past, but unfortunately this location routinely misses the mark. The food isn't uniform as in terms of freshness depending on when you go, and the employees seem less than enthused to work there. The only thing this place has going for itself is convenience. Outside of that, I'd get my subs elsewhere.

This Jimmy John's location has been slipping for sometime now- slowed delivery times, lower quality sandwiches- but I've always come back because I love me some Italian Nightclub with hot peppers. After today, I'm not so sure I'll be as forgiving. Today was the worst JJ experience I've ever had. I've lived in 7 states and ordered from many different locations and I've never experienced anything close to this level of suck from any other store. Ordered online today at 11:56. Vito with hot peppers, cut in half and an Italian Nightclub with chips and a pickle. Order arrives. Vito is cut in half and does have hot peppers but has NO MEAT. No meat! How on earth the store managed to get the special requests right (cut in half, add peppers) but missed making the actual sandwich is beyond me. Pickle is just M.I.A. Called the store, the girl who answered seemed a bit incompetent- I had to explain to her 3 times what the problem was- but was cordial and did agree to send out a replacement sandwich and a pickle. Replacement finally shows up at 1:30, a full hour and a half since I initially ordered. Vito has meat this time, but lacks everything else. Just meat and lettuce. Not sure if the store intended for me to combine the two sandwiches to make one complete sandwich or not, but that's what I did. We did finally also get the pickle. Obviously pretty disappointed in the entire exchange. If I could have taken my tip back, I would have but I'd paid with a card and so that money is just spirited away. Listen. I get it. It's Saturday morning and you're probably wishing that you were sleeping instead of making sandwiches. I was a sandwich artist myself back in high school. But here you are, so the least you can do is actually make a sandwich. If you get confused I'm sure that the ingredients are listed somewhere in the store. And if for some reason you manage to mess up an order, for the love of god, send out the replacement right away. Ordering a sandwich just shouldn't be this difficult or time consuming. I'd like to avoid this kind of headache in the future, so I think I'll avoid attempting to order from this store again.

Jimmy Johns totally failed me last time. I really only order Jimmy Johns because it's super super fast. And because it's usually so "Freaky fast" (as they make their centerpiece of their entire service), I tend to time them... cause it's usually so entertaining. The last time me and my friend ordered online it took a whopping 50 minutes to deliver my food. Now, you say, that's not unreasonable- usually takes my pizza about 45-60 minutes to be delivered. Well, the time before Jimmy Johns delivered to me in 10 minutes, the time before that 12 minutes, and the time before that, I think, 16 minutes. So, really, the amount of time is 4-5 times the usual wait time. After about 40 minutes, I called the store and asked where the delivery driver was. Without even saying my order he told me that he was on the way. Now, I understand that things happen. Maybe he blew a tire, or couldn't find some other house, or got visited by some magic fairy that took up a good amount of time explaining his destiny to run Jimmy Johns one day. But if you make your entire business about Freaky Fast delivery, and it turns out that day it's Freaky Slow delivery - you better be ready to take some hits. At least give me a coupon for next time... something! And since I ordered online, I had already tipped the driver 4 dollars. Which I consider a good tip for a delivery driver (especially on a 20 dollar order). I tipped him well cause I thought he was gonna be so freakin' fast. #FreakyFastFail

I love Jimmy John's subs, but the delivery times of this location are pitiful. I just confirmed, via Goole Maps, that the distance to this particular location from my condo is 0.4 miles - on foot or by car. Even in the worst of Bethesda traffic (it's been a headache recently due to all of the construction EVERYWHERE), it isn't reasonable to have to wait 1+ hours for my delivery, which I'd estimate has happened 7 of the 17 time I've ordered from them beginning on 11/29/2013. The fastest I've ever received an order was around 20 minutes, but in general, delivery times are around 30 minutes, which is a far cry from their "so fast you'll freak" promise. N.B. - They sell soft drinks a la fountain soda, which is a really cool concept as long as nearly all of the crushed ice hasn't melted by the time the delivery arrives.

  • Benjamín S.

I've eaten here a few times, but only when someone else is paying for it. If you want a delicious gourmet sandwich, walk two blocks to Taylor Gourmet. If you want a cheap, relatively tasty (compared to here) sandwich, walk two blocks to Subway. If you want a bland, mayo-drenched sandwich, eat here. Or, if you really want to punish yourself, you could get something from Booeymonger.

    (2)
  • Caroline L.

At an office building nearby and ordered delivery a few times. Easy process, they have never messed up the order. Fresh sandwiches (WISH THE BUNS WERE TOASTED THOUGH ARGH).

    (4)
  • Jenn S.

I was very surprised when I called for a delivery order and they said they only deliver within 2 miles. At first I was like "sweet" because the Bethesda Naval Station is only 1.5 miles away. They still informed me that it was too far. No wonder their deliveries are super fast...you can run 2 miles within 15 mins...let alone drive! Very disappointed.

    (1)
  • James P.

Great sandwiches but don't order delivery from here. Their delivery time is pathetic for a place that focuses it's advertisements on how fast they are. Ordered a sandwich and it took a solid hour and a half.

    (2)
  • Michelle A.

Wish the Company founder wasn't such a dis-likable blowhard - I'd probably eat here more often. Shooting the elephants isn't helping your image buddy. Have to give it to this place though, for under $6 you can get in and out with your sandwich in under 2 minutes with no line. It's insanely fast, and the stuff in tasty. Well run location that I frequent....frequently

  • Felicia C.

Sandwiches are tasteless. I was surprised that my entire family (5 of us) had the same opinion. Well, my youngest daughter liked their bread but that was it. Even Subway is better than this place. The staff consists of young kids (approx 16-23). They were not bad at all and maintained their cool with my order of 5 sandwiches. I questioned my own taste buds when I ate my tuna sub, wondering if I perhaps was ill and therefore my taste buds were off. But no, I was in good health and was eating a tasteless tuna while my family ate their tasteless subs. If you are in the area, go to Hampden Deli which is only a few blocks away and is soooo much better.

I opted for a Beach Club on seven-grain wheat and a light touch of Dijon mustard. Bread was plush and cut to 3/4" thick, which made me less cranky about having a untoasted sandwich. Avocado spread was whipped light and spread evenly over the fresh cucumber slices. Generous depth of provolone and sliced turkey breast. No sprouts as was advertised, boo. Oatmeal cookie was large and heavily spiced, but not crave-worthy. Jalapeno chips aren't for the heat-shy, but also not very flavorful. Salt and vinegar won me over, as did the timely delivery-- I always see the drivers zipping around these neighborhoods. Three and a half stars.

  • Chase R.

I come here all the time. Seeing it's a chain you pretty much know what you are going to get after the first time. I just don't care for the staff at this particular one. My sub typically is not 'packed' properly and as you bite into the sub you don't get even bites of ingredients. I'll continue to come here, just disappointed in the service.

  • Sean I.

I was visiting from out of town. Don't know local delis and needed delivery for a quick meal. Used their online ordering and my sandwich and sides were delivered in 15 minutes. Only minor complaint was wished they used more oil and vinegar on the "Vito" sandwich. Otherwise very happy with portion sizes and prices. Will order again.

Where I come from - the Midwest - there's a JJ on virtually every corner. When I first came to DC, I was a bit distraught over the utter lack of Jimmy. Discovering one hidden away in Bethesda was an exciting moment, to say the least. Like other JJ's I've been to, this one delivered. The price is great (if you just get the sandwich, you'll end up paying about $5), the options are a-plenty, and that bread is as fresh as you could ever hope for. My faves: (1) the Vito (a variety of Italian meats with lettuce, onion, tomato, an Italian vinaigrette, and provolone) (2) totally tuna (tuna salad with sprouts and cucumber) (3) the turkey tom (this is their "basic" sandwich, with turkey, lettuce, tomato, sprouts, and mayo) You can also get hot peppers added to any sandwich for free. For a small charge, I'd recommend adding avocado spread as well (as odd as it sounds, it's delicious with the tuna). If you come at the right time (before the smart shoppers have invaded), you can get day old bread for 49 cents. 49 freaking cents. And it's a big loaf. AND you would never know it was day old unless it was advertised that way. It's delicious alone and perfect for homemade sandwiches - you'll never be able to get your Wonderbread at Giant for those prices! Clearly, I'm a huge fan. If you stop by, you will be, too.

  • Denise T.

Jimmy John's always delivers exactly what I ordered. They make sandwiches, and they make them well. I order from this location often, and I have noticed that delivery time is getting to be about thirty minutes on average. That is not what I would concider 'lighting fast"

    (3)
  • Krassi G.

Mediocre sandwiches, even less of a service. My friend and I ordered two Italian subs -based on all the reviews we thought the quality should be somewhat decent. Not so, the people who work there either have no desire, or skill to make an Italian sub which in theory should be the easiest thing in the world - a few slices of meats, cheese and some dressing...I have had better subs at Subway (which is definitely not my go to place to begin with). There are other better choices in the area

    (2)
  • Mariella B.

I work in Bethesda so I can always can count on this place and consistency. There is a Subway's across the street but it's not worth spending my hard earned money when I can get real food here. I usually get the Beach Club on seven grain or the #16 (not sure what it's called) but it's JJ's version of the turkey BLT. I love that this place is super fast just like they say. If I were at Subway it would take half my lunch break just to get through the meat ordering section. What's nice about JJ's is you get your moneys worth and you're satisfied afterwards also depending where you are located they will deliver to you and there is no minimum for delivery. So that means I get to order lunch on a rainy day and not have to ask around the office to get delivery!! Oh they also pack on these sandwiches that the extras actually end up falling out...that's a sandwich!!!!

    (4)
  • Siggy D.

Good price, good sandwiches. We usually do delivery to the office and they are 99% of the time always on time :)

I've lived in downtown Bethesda for almost two years and am very sad that I overlooked this place until now. I certainly won't be going to Subway or Taylor anymore.

Typical Jimmy Johns. Make sure you feed the meters on the street. Meter maids are watching for the quick run-ins!

  • Ashlee H.

A big, resounding BOOOOOOOO to this JJs location: 1.5 stars because I can no longer count on one hand the number of times this JJ's has messed up my order. I do like their sandwiches and especially their price, but seriously... it takes some terrible management to mess up a simple order OVER FIVE TIMES. Twice I've gone home only to realize they gave me a completely different sandwich than what I ordered, and a number of times they've not gotten the ingredients right. IT'S A BASIC SANDWICH. How hard can it be, guys??? I'd become accustomed to eating here at least once a week, but it is now literally a guessing game as to what sandwich/ingredients I'll end up with. I can easily forgive a mistake here and there, but this is completely unreasonable. I strongly recommend going to Taylor Gourmet or Potbelly's right down the road, unless you're fine with giving $7 for a mystery sandwich grab bag.

    (2)
  • Lauren L.

They will deliver just one sandwich. Just. One. Sandwich. For serious. And also, delicious. AND...great for a picky eater like me. They get my sandwich pickiness right every time.

    (5)

Jimmy John's is delicious, but this one is the best Jimmy John's. They are so fast and nice - especially Justin!

  • M. B.

This review is for the service...amazing! We were in the area and needed a platter of sandwiches for about 30 people to take to an office. It was 10:30 am...we read Jimmy John's web ad said they need 24 hours, but will make emergency platters sooner if they can. AND YES THEY DID!! So easy, we picked up sandwiches, a bucket of pickles and chips around 11:45am. They were so nice. They didn't even let us carry anything and walked our bags of food out to the car. I will definitely be going back. You remember when a business worked so seamlessly and made things easy for you. Thank you!!

  • Jason C.

I ordered delivery which was pretty fast. Food was good and the bread was fresh and fantastic. They also deliver you fountain soda with crushed ice which I thought was great. I will for sure be ordering more delivery from this location.

  • Ryan V.

Absurdly slow service. Good food, but when your whole shpeel is how fast you are, live up to it.

    (2)
  • Joe R.

The main reason I come here so much is the speed of service. I only have a 30 minute lunch break and like to eat my lunch out. Subways not great and takes long and the places that are better take even longer. Jimmy johns get me in and out

    (3)
  • Mary M.

Great prices. Love the shredded lettuce. Sandwiches are reliably good - nothing fabulous. Even bacon lovers should avoid anything with bacon - it's ice cold, chewy, way too salty, and completely overpowering.

    (3)
  • Christine E.

Fresh ingredients, best sandwich bread and efficient service. Almost every type of sandwich I've had here was delicious. I think the fresh bread here makes the sandwich what it is...so good! The submarine sandwich bread is so sleek and easy to manage while eating. I end up with very few or no crumbs when I'm finished chowing down. Ideal for a person on the go. Definitely a lunch-time favorite on my list!

  • Heather J.

I've heard good things about Jimmy John's for a long time, but only made it there for the first time tonight. I walked in, expecting it to be like a Subway, but really the only similarity is that they both make sandwiches. They were so friendly! I walked in to a chorus of "Hi!" from all the staff and someone walked up to the counter immediately to take my order. He happily waited while I mulled over the menu. I decided on a turkey sub and the Italian sub with hot peppers. Though their menu items have set combinations of toppings, they made the changes I requested without any issues. And when they say your sandwich will be ready in 30 seconds, they're not kidding. My first sandwich was ready before I finished ordering the second one! All the meats, cheeses, and toppings were fresh and the bread was great. I'm interested to try their club sandwiches, too. The prices are reasonable, the food is good, and the staff are great, so I'll be back!

  • Eric J.

I've only tried the guargantuam and they are very easy with the meat they put in. It's a definite pickup and go place for a sub if you want something in a hurry.
