After seeing cops come here every morning, I decided to stop in. Decent amount of seating, plenty of street parking, huge menu. Plastic minimum is $6 or so. Lots of American snacks and grab-n-go's like varietal muffins, bars, chips (four flavors of PopChips is a joyous sight). Fairly stocked drink fridge, heavy on mini-options. The owner hovers to expedite, but is very friendly. Food is cooked to order and pickup is on the left by the cash register. Ordered a Nova platter on sesame ($5.95), and a three-egg mushroom and cheese omelet ($5.50). Solid portioning on both menu items. The latter came with two slices of buttered toast, coarsely halved. Home fries are seasoned with Lawry's and taste rustic when fresh. Mushrooms not too sparse, but the egg batter was on the flat side and garnished with a melted Kraft single. Fresh veg for my toasted bagel fixings, no problems with the red onions or tomatoes. Cream cheese is layered on thick to make up for the thin layer of lox, as well as for the bagel with nova spread. Butter lettuce instead of the advertised olives. Again, Uptown keeps the local lox bagel victory. Sausage breakfast burrito may be the way to go; the steak one uses cheesesteak-style chopped meat. The potato chunks mixed in call for hot sauce from my office drawer. Turkey bacon one was smaller but mildly improved in texture. Croissants run small. Three and a half stars. I feel like a lot of the love this place is gets is for value. Yeah, it's great that you aren't paying an arm and a leg like everywhere else, and I commend them for the pricing structure: loyalty in exchange for only charging about four bucks for the basic breakfast sandwich. No doubt I'll be back for lunch.

I've been coming to Café Express since I started my current job (in Nov. 2005). I haven't had one bad sandwich is all those years. Bethesda is notorious for being a little on the more expensive side....Café Express is the exception. They have an great breakfast selection (from simple sandwiches, omelets to full blown breakfast with all the fixings). Lunch provides options for even the most picky eater. Their daily specials are great deals! If you work and/or live in Bethesda and haven't stopped by Café Express yet....what are you waiting for?

Great food on a budget! I used to come here for breakfast and lunch when I worked in the area. The food is very fresh, healthy (nothing is fried), and highly customizable without paying an arm and leg for it (which is hard to find in the area). The breakfast burritos are amazing and you can substitute the flour tortilla for wheat and get egg whites for a healthier version. The veggie burgers are wraps are delicious. I can easily substitute different toppings and get some free toppings (just ask!). Take advantage of the free refills if your order the 32 ounce soda or iced tea (you must get the refill on the same day). Just as the name suggests, the customer service is prompt and EXPRESS. The Asian lady cashier is also friendly and gets up at 3 am to run this store and also the deli on Elm Street (which isn't as good). It's hard to find good eateries in Bethesda without shelling out $10/meal, so Cafe Express was my go-to. It's much cheaper than Jetties or BGR. Be aware, Cafe Express closes around 4pm and isn't open over the weekends.

I get this odd craving for a meatball sub about once a month. It probably stems from when I was a kid, and like every kid, I had a bizarre diet. I went through a period where I ate meatball subs about once a day (thanks Subway). Anyway, Cafe X-Press has been able to deliver the quencher for my hunger with their cheap and delicious meatball sub. This deli has a good selection of subs and sandwiches at a good price for Bethesda. It's a bit further out from the "action" in the city, but it is worth a walk if you are looking for cheap and delicious, but still tasty. The lady who owns the join has that warm friendly way about her that I enjoy. She greets you with a warm smile and generally strikes up a bit of chit chat. I don't know about you, but I like when I'm not just viewed as a dollar sign.

I ordered a turkey sub here and it kind of sucked. way too much mayo and not much turkey.

Went here for lunch with a coworker yesterday. I had strolled by it a couple of times and saw they had a huge variety and was pretty cheap. I ordered a cajun chicken with bbq sauce. It cost around $6 but the thing was HUGE. Much bigger than anything you get at the other delis in Bethesda. Sandwich was pretty good. Lots of meat. The bbq sauce was just okay. I was definitely full and wasn't disappointed. They have so many sandwiches that I will definitely come back to try some of the others.

Good ol' Cafe X-Press. I typically go here when i'm working from home or off during the week since I do not believe they are open during the weekend or after 6PM during the week. This place serves the Bethesda working crowd. Although it's called a "cafe" it seems more like a deli to me, I associate cafe's with coffee and I do not believe this place specializes in coffee. The sandwiches are good, a ton of good options on the board. They are also pretty fast at making them. The only thing, and I feel a bit bad saying this, but the staff is pretty odd. The woman that owns it seems pretty normal, and everyone there seems nice, but...just check it out....the rest of the workers are a bit eccentric.

CafeXPress has been my primary late morning "feeding-home" for a very many years. Almost every weekday I am there. Wednesday is often Chinese Buffet day and weekends are for buffet or eating elsewhere-day. Close-in parking is unfortunately, a requisite for most of my activities and Xpress has on-street, metered parking; often right out-front. With Bethesda's vigilant parking enforcement officers, meters are normally available to shoppers/diners (prior to 1130AM); while business owner & employees are forced to seek private or other pay-parking. Originally owned & operated by "Chandor" from India; he is a commercial property owner and small restaurant(s) operator. He retains ownership of the building but "Dianna", from Korea now owns and is the on-site operator. The business incorporates Salvadorian cooks and Decarlo, from the Carolina's, as CafeXPress Catering & Delivery Service expert (301-913-9330). "De" has impeccable credentials as a former cook & facilities designer & operator on The Hill as well as having spent a good part of his life with Marriott in a management capacity. This guy is a true gem and caters and provides delivery service on a daily basis within, I would guess, 25 miles of Bethesda (a mystery to me as to how he pulls all that off) but he does it with style, grace & quality! CafeXPress, like its industry, is in constant flux. Prices remain reasonable and lower than most Deli's in Bethesda. Food quality & proportions seem to have, as of a few months ago, declined. I think that they may be fine tuning their services in an effort to have to avoid radically increasing their prices; not quite sure, yet. CafeXPress has always made me feel like family and while I am now diversifying my noontime dining, I expect that Xpress shall always be my staple and at least a weekly, stop. Should things change so shall I? But this place IS a "keeper' and well worth a Yelper's consideration if you happen to be in the Bethesda area.

Bacon, egg & cheese sandwich on an English muffin for $3.50? I'm there! I was in serious need of a hearty breakfast while spending an entire day at Chaos Salon across the street, and this place hit the spot better than I could've imagined! Korean-owned Cafe X-Press is nothing fancy, but they've got a huge menu and it's a great value. I waited about 4-5 minutes for my order. Not really a destination spot, but definitely worth stopping in for a quick bite if you're nearby.

They're absurd. If you get a breakfast sandwich on a roll they charge $2 extra just for the roll and don't have the courtesy to tell you beforehand. Bring you're own roll the next time and don't try to change whatever is on the menu unless you want to pay extra.

I love this place for lunch. Cheapest sandwich eats in Bethesda. Would give it 4.5 stars if I could. The salads aren't the greatest, but the sandwiches more than make up for it. A side of pasta salad isn't bad either. Try the Tandoori Chicken Sub, and call ahead to get your order in!

i used to work for this establishment, and i will tell you that out of 10 years in the restaurant business, this is the ONLY place i wouldnt eat free daily meals from. its darn good food but how no one has gotten sick or the health inspector hasnt shut them down baffles me. nothing in the storage fridge is temp'ed, or dated, or even covered for that matter. same goes for the tiny cold appetizers/sides up front. the dry storage is covered in rodent...uhh... evidence. Dianna has little to no experience, the entire place runs on Decarlo and diannas husband who owns the st. elmo deli around the corner. that place has the same menu, same prices, same owners, and same immigrants. the only difference is the husband knows how to run a CLEAN and STERILE kitchen. yelp.com/biz/st-elmo-del… repeat, same owner as cafe xpress, same staff, similar menu, no mice or dianna or week old food. right around the corner.

We love this deli! We are suckers for the sandwiches named after local areas. The main manager is a little cooky (she always tells my husband and I we look like siblings. No one but her says that.). The prices are great, they made the sandwiches quickly and they are TASTY. What more could you ask for?

If you are on the run and want a quick bite to eat that will surely hit the spot - this is the place to go! I work close by so I will frequently swing by Cafe X-Press for their greek salads (I think they make their greek dressing from scratch). Lots of sandwiches, wraps (including vegetarian wraps), and pre-made salads to choose from. They are usually very busy during lunch time so expect to feel rushed when you are ordering or paying. There are several tables inside, and when the weather is nice they set up their outdoor seating.

This place is great. The bread for the sandwiches is dam good. They toast it just right. Service is fast. Try the Cajun Chicken Sandwich. I work right down the block and there are many places to eat but I find myself eating there 4 out of 5 days a week. You would think I would get sick of it. Not yet.

Decent and cheap sandwiches. I had the turkey wrap and BF got the pulled pork sandwich. Both very good. The Korean lady behind the counter is very friendly, almost too talkative. She started telling us about her potential son-in-law. I liked her because she reminds me of a talkative aunt. I would go back to grab quick sandwiches any day.

This is where i go when i need to grab a quick bite and get back to work quickly. Would i ever physically drive to this place if i didn't work in bethesda? No. For what it is though, it does it's job admirably. And what it is is a straight up sandwich shop with a few extras.

I came here pretty infrequently for lunch because there are so many better places for a quick bite in Bethesda. Service was quick, huge menu of sandwiches/subs.

This quaint corner cafe offers tasty sandwiches at an inexpensive price. Try the Mardi Gras Wrap! Staff are very quick and attentive. My only compaint is they use their dining space as their storage area as well. Cardboard boxes aplenty!

Great Place to go for Breakfast or Lunch! Yelp needs to change the listing to "Cafe X-press". Cafe X-press cooks everything fresh for you, but it doesn't take very long. The counter top has a selection of other home made pastries and salads. They also have a great selection of beverages. It's very inexpensive for Bethesda and they have specials every day. I work down the road and they've even taken the initiative to deliver my food for me before I came to pick it up. I just call my orders in and they're always ready when I get there. It has an interesting Diner feel to it as there are so many people that seem to stop by in the mornings.

A great spot for breakfast and/or lunch without breaking the bank. Everything tastes fresh and the portions are amazing for what you pay. As an added bonus, the staff is extremely friendly and will remember you when you come back :) Tip: try the Tandoori Chicken sub.

I don't know what happened but the food and quality of food is awful now. Thought I'd give it another chance after getting the most greasy breakfast of my life. SWIMMINGLY in grease. Looks like they had turnover in staff so I chanced it. BIG MISTAKE. $10 for two pieces of turkey bacon and a tiny omelette? REALLY?! I'm done. I'm done!

The food and prices here are just awesome. The Norfolk sandwhich here is one of the best sandwiches in Bethesda. Highly recommend if you need to grab a bite to go!

Awesome little deli in Bethesda! Great breakfast and great prices. The owner is super sweet and makes the best homemade muffins. My favorite is the orange cranberry and my daughter loves the blueberry. Whenever we have a muffin somewhere else, they never compare to these! My daughter and I frequent here at least 2-3 times a month and have been for the past couple years! No complaints at all!

The sandwiches here are so good! I had the Eggplant Parmesan and Tandoori. The owner is a super sweet lady and very sociable. This place is definitely my new "to go" sandwich shop!

Why when I opened my Greek chicken salad back at my work, there was no chicken, tomatoes or anything else a normal Greek salad might have? Just a heap of lettuce with 3 cucumber slices and banana peppers. I usually like this place as a steady lunch option but that's too big a mistake to overlook.

Mobile Review is hard to write with creamy cole slaw dripping from amazing sub (the Bethesda). Cheap and fabulous. Great deal in Bethesda.

A decently sized deli (lots of sitting space) on the corner of norfolk and del ray.. I've walked past it many times, but just never had a chance to wander inside. The other morning, I finally did and ordered an Egg, Ham & Cheese sandwich on a croissant (~$3.50) ... it was prepared in no time... and pretty tasty! The croissant was fluffy. I'll have to come back to this deli to try more.

I've gone here for lunch a few times and would say that it's normally a 3 star place for sandwiches. Today however as I was chewing my sandwich something was a little gummy. I pulled out a piece of lettuce and out comes some plastic saran wrap as well. How did that get past the sandwich maker? There are many more options in the area so that was probably my last visit.
